Pages are loading slowly
My Sharepoint pages are taking forever to load, approx. 6-10 seconds per
page. This happens whether just one person is accessing the portal or 20. I
have posted this to the SharePoint newsgroup as well--but I think there may
be a setting within the app pool or something that could possibly speed it
up. Does anyone know how to speed up page loading in a website?
Thanks,

Digest authentication and freezing in IE
I have set up an IIS6.0 website to use Advanced Digest authentication. It
works fine for normal page views. It does not work for an application that
is left open for a long time:
- it prompts the user to re-authenticate every x minutes
- if the user ignores it, IE6 freezes at the prompt and won't respond. It
needs to be terminated in Task Manager
I can see in the Digest RFC there is a provision for renewing the
authentication periodically. It says that the server _may_ allow it to be
renewed without prompting, or it may request a new authentication. Two
questions then:
1) Is IIS supposed to prompt the user to re-authenticate every x minutes?
2) Does IE6 freeze if the prompt is not responded to?

IIS - Restore Metabase file in IIS 5.0 - w2k server
Hi,
I run a server with windows 2000 server and IIS 5.0, and today, after
installing some updates, when i go to IIS i got this msg
"A non-fatal configuration error occurred. Not all available information mau
be displayed."
Only lists some sites, and misses some hundreds of them, i didnt tryed to
add a new one, but i think it wont allow.
The server is running fine.
I have a backup of metabase file from a few days from today, from last
change on IIS.
I think the metabase file is currupted.
The question is:
Since the server is some hundreds km away from me, can i restore the last
backup with the server working online from terminal remote session with no
problems?
I know it will take an hour at least to restore the metabase file since its
2000 server with iis 5.
Or its better to ask someone to go to the server, disconnect it from
network, and then do the restore?

HELP! Loosing value in Session variables in prod!
Hi,
I have a problem with with my webapplication based on ASP technology
(vbscript serverside/javascript clientside).
The application has been working fine until today. In all my virtual
directories sessions are beeing emptied on http-post. I can't get the value
form Session("Formname") after a submit is done. I created a new virtual
directory, created a session variable made a form tag to be able to submit
(POST) and read the session variable on the target file after submitting.
What can be wrong?? Thanks for your help!

IIS manager and Unable to enumerate web sites
Good Day,
I have a problem with IIS on Win2k. When I open Computer Management, and I
go to IIS, I get the error
"Unable to enumerate web sites because the following error occurred.Access
denied". I click ok and only the SMTP and FTP tab shows.
The only change I made was on Friday - I followed the procedure to upgrade
to ASP.Net 2 - during the installation the IIS service did not want to stop
and timed out, so I rebooted (using start, shutdown) the machine and ran the
installation again.
Websites on the server are working fine though.
Any advise? Tag: Programmatically install IIS 5.0 in windows 2000 Tag: 386984

Changing framework version on Virtual Root hangs IIS
Hi folks,
I have a production server that has both the 1.1 and 2.0 framework
installed. When setting up a new application I sometimes have to change
the framework version that the root uses. After this, none of the
applications respond (server error displayed).
The onyl solution I have found is to start and stop IIS.
Any ideas what is happening here.

Help! Accidently installed IIS in German!
While installing IIS using the Add New Windows Feature control, I accidently
put in a German version of Windows XP when it asked me for my installation
disk.
So, now, all IIS related prompts and etc. are in German (which I can't
read.)
I tried unintalling and reinstalling IIS using my installation disk, but the
German text is still there.
Is there any way to clear it all out and have a truly fresh install using
English?

iis option greyed out while installing iis
Hi,
I'm trying to install IIS on my pc, running xp media center edition
sp2, but after i installed it the checkbox item is greyed, is there
something missing? i'm trying to install it so i can work on some .net
web applications, but visual studio .net 2003 would not allow me to
create any, kept getting this error:
The Web server reported the following error when attempting to create
or open the Web project located at the following URL:
'http://localhost/webapplication1'. 'HTTP/1.1 500 Internal Server
Error'.
so i just uninstalled, vs 2003, .net 1.1 and now iis. while removing
iis i noticed it was greyed out, i reinstalled it and and checkbox
under add windows component is again grey. any ideas? Also while they
were all installed together i noticed that under iis properties there
was no asp.net tab, i have one on my laptop, winxp sp2, but thought it
was odd installing the same thing on pc didn't have one.

404 error and HTTPS
I created a custom error page which redirects user to a home page if they
typed in the wrong address(404 error). It works ok with HTTP protocol, but
fails to work with HTTPS.
For example if you type http://www.somesite.com/fake.htm you get redirected

Can someone explain to me why custom error page works for HTTP and doesn't

Accidently installed IIS in German!
Does anyone know how to reinstall IIS so that I have English language
strings?
I accidently used a German language Windows installation disk when I
installed IIS using the add/remove Windows features in the control
panel. It prompted me for a windows installation disk, and I
unfortunately put a German one in the drive!
I've tried uninstalling the feature then installing it again with an
English version of windows, but the german remains (for example, if I
try to get properties for the inetpub directory, one of the tabs is in
german, as is the prompts and dialog boxes associated with it!)
What now? Please, don't tell me that I actually have to reinstall
windows or something like that!

Invalid Default Script Language
I have run into the same problem that has been discussed in other posts after
installing the Scripting Engine 5.6 (And I do not see any way to remove it
). I am running IIS 5 with classic ASP using VBScript.
I did not change any other thing on my system and now ALL my local host
sites give the same error. Thay all worked fine until this update, no
errors, access to database, etc. I checked permissions and they all seem
correct. My system is XP Pro SP2.
I have little experience with setting permission as the system runs pretty
much plain vanilla. My localhost i ssued for local development and tetsig
before moving my pages to an ISP.
I am at my wits end in trying to figure out what happened and how to recover.
Thanks for any information.

Classic ASP & IIS 6
I'm hoping you could help me out determining whether IIS 6's new features
apply to Classic ASP or just .Net based apps.
IIS 6's features I want for my Classic ASP app are:
detecting memory leaks,
access violations,
recycling processes,
managing resources (e.g. worker process isolation mode and kernel-level
request queuing)
My Plan:
I plan to migrate a classic ASP app to IIS 6 in hopes of using IIS 6's
features above. My plan is to simply copy & paste my ASP pages into IIS 6 and
be done with it. However, I'm wondering if I need to migrate my code to
ASP.NET in order to get the new IIS 6 features, or whether these features are
enabled at the application pool regardless of code base.
What are your thoughts?

HttpQueryServiceConfiguration completed with 1168 which based on my

individual IP's to the sites because the SSL do not work with host
headers. PLus I got a NLB for the 2 front end servers. If I start
assigning the httpcfg set iplisten -i xxx.xxx.x.x for those IP's i am

Cisco PIX woes with MS Cert Service on Windows 2000

browse index page after SQLXML3.0 install ?
When looking into setting up SQLXML 3.0 I found this:
1.. Download SqlXml 3.0 (this test was done with Sp2 Beta 1).
2.. Run the installation program. You will need to also install the SOAP
toolkit if you want to use the SqlXml SOAP features.
3.. Open the IIS Virtual Directory Management tool under Start ->
Programs -> SqlXml 3.0 -> Configure IIS.
4.. Create a new virtual directory. Enter the information on the General
tab and the Security tab. When you go to the Data Source tab you should be
able to browse the databases on the server. If you can't then you need to
check your security settings.
5.. Turn on Allow sql= queries so that you can test your setup. Make sure
you turn this off when you are done testing.
I am finding however that i cant browse to my index page in the new virual
directory. This index page is basic aspx for login, no sql connection
required until login started.

adding a new .asp file to a web application hosted on iis

variables residing in my Global.asa file which also resides in the same
folder. In the same folder I can response.write to verify the contents of
the application variables with .asp pages that are part of the current
version of the applcation...but with the new .asp page the application
variables are not recognized. I'm editing all of the files with the same
Visual Interdev IDE. I've tried stopping and starting the web application
but this made no difference. I've also tried modifying the golbal.asa file

to display any entries related to this error. The transfer rates are
good, around 4 MB/s. Yesterday we installed SP1 and it did not fix the
issue. I have tried decreasing the minimumbytespersecond entry to 50,
and I have tried increasing the various timeouts in the IIS management
tool to at least 10 minutes, but none of this has affected the behavior
of this issue. I have logged in to the server locally and I can

SMTP/POP3 servers
I am sorta' lost. First, I am using IIS6.0 (Win2K3 SP1 machine) and the web
sites use host headers. I have set up a virtual (not the default) SMTP
server and POP3 server on my Win2K3 SP1 machine. I can use an ISP email
client and send an email to my server. It arrives in the Queue folder just
fine, but never gets delivered. Since I created a virtual SMTP server, I was
expecting the Badmail, Drop, Pickup, and Queue folders to be on
DifferentDriveLetter:\foldername folder (there were no Mailbox, Route,
SortTemp folders) ... well, they were there - less the other ones. But, when
I created POP3 server, these same folders (along with some other folders:
Mailbox, Route, SortTemp) were created on the C:\Inetpub\mailroot folder and
the Mailbox folder on the C-drive contained the usernamer.mbx file. Thus,
when an incoming email arrived, it went to the
DifferentDriveLetter:\foldername\Queue folder and just sat there and was
never delivered. It would never appear in the Drop folder on this drive and
in the MS Outlook Express 6 inbox. Why does the POP3 server place the
Badmail, Drop, Pickup, Queue, etc folders on C:\Inetpubmailroot drive and not
on the DifferentDriveLetter:\foldername (where the virtual SMTP server
created it's folders/files)? Can anyone help me????? What am I doing
wrong?????

IIS caching .css files
I'm making changes to a .css file on a live web site however I can not
see the changes sent out by the web server. I'm looking directly at the
.css file in the browser and it's not changing. I am looking at the
correct folder, URL, etc...
I have also tried adding the no-cache header without any luck...
Any ideas? Tag: Programmatically install IIS 5.0 in windows 2000 Tag: 386858
Multiple SSL Certs
I currently have two different SSL certificates running on the same
Windows 2000 Server. However, when I assign a site to the newly created
cert, it does not use it, it defaults back to the original cert (the
one that was created first).
How can I get a site to use a different SSL cert? Tag: Programmatically install IIS 5.0 in windows 2000 Tag: 386853
WEBSITE ACCESS ONLY INTERNALLY
Our website was working fine up until yesterday. There hasn't been any
changes in the system. Now, I can not access the website externally.
Is there some type of test I can do to see what is causing the issue?
Our email server is working fine.
The website has its own server running IIS 6.

Assembly permission error after uploading ASP .Net applicaion
I have been banging my head against the wall for a day now wondering
WHY this application works perfectly on my development machine but
falls on its face when I upload it to our web server (WS2k3, IIS 6,
running Sharepoint Server).
As soon as I uploaded the page, I recieved the error below regarding
one of the libraries included in the project with line 206 being
highlighted in red:
I am wondering if the server having Sharepoint Server installed (not
just Sharepoint Services) is causing it to have increased security? Do
I HAVE to make this a strongname assembly? If so, can I create the key
and whatnot on my development workstation and use that same key on the
web server?
I am the first to admit that I need quite a bit of guidance with this
problem. My patience with IIS6 and Sharepoint is running quite thin.
Thank you!!!
John

Cannot Get IIS6 Custom ASP Error to work
I have an IIS5 website (written ages ago...late 90s). It uses a custom
404 error page (404.asp) to perform some processing and tailor the
error page accordingly. I have migrated the site to a Windows 2003
Server running IIS6. I have enabled the ASP Web Service Extension, the
site works just fine with the custom error message being the lone
exception.
I have configured the custom error as follows:
IIS Manager
Select Website, right-click choose properties
Select Custom Errors tab
Select 404 error
Select Edit
Select URL as message type
Set URL = /<Website directory>/Errors/404.asp
The Internet Guest Account should have access to all of the website.
When I try to invoke a 404 error all I get returned is this:
"The system cannot find the path specified."
The IIS Logs show this information (obsfucted IP's)
log from one that works (old site running on IIS5)
2006-08-22 20:37:24 10.*.*.* - W3SVC7 <WEB_SERVER_NAME> 10.*.*.* 80 GET

Is there something I am missing? Is it possible to have an ASP page
executed as a custom error page in IIS6...I would think so and that I
have it configured incorrectly but I cannot seem to find
any document that tells me to do anything different.
Thanks
