 - domain / basic authentication I have a little issue that I'd like to find a fix for. A have a web server that is a member of a development domain (yes, I know that having web servers being members of domains isn't generally a good idea). I have a web site on this server that is set to use basic authentication. I've created a local user account on this server for this basic authentication. Developers access this server remotely using terminal services. They log in using a domain account that is a member of the local administrator group in order for them to make changes to this machine. They have discovered that if they type domain\accountname and the appropriate password they can access the website that uses basic authentication without using the local account I created. I can't think of any way of preventing this short of removing them as local administrators which I don't really want to do. Does any have any other suggestions?  - Using virtual directories for common directories (scripts, images, styles, etc.) Hi, (sorry for the crosspost, I wasn't sure which was the best place to put this). I was just thinking about something and wondered if any of you has some ideas about this. I'm using the NetAdvantage component suite from Infragistics for my web applications. When installing they create several virtual directories for the scripts and images directories that their components use. That way e.g., when you drop a control on a form, and the imagedirectory property is by default set to /ig_images/ it automatically finds the images, no matter where the webform is located in the hierarchy of the website. I find this a clever idea. I've never done this and never seen a website that does this, but it sounds like a good idea. I mean, I have a web application with several subdirectories, user controls, script/style/images directories etc. etc. It seems like a good idea to turn my images, scripts, styles directories into virtual directories, so that I can access them from anywhere within my web application with simply the virtual directory name, not having to worry anymore about those relative paths (../../). I know about the "~" to access the virtual root, but I've had some problems with that, especially when the web application is not in a virtual directory but in its own website.  - IIS users and ADS de promotion Hello, If IIS is installed on an ADS, then, after depromoting the ADS, the IIS users (IUSR_machine name, IWAM_machine name) are recreated and there is a event log indicating the same.  - NO POST form function I am creating a web site in which an .html form posts information to an .asp page (or .asp to .asp) - the information will not post on target page. No error message - no 405 error - nothing. I have had the script looked at a dozen times with no error in script found. People conclude it is a IIS problem stating my "IIS configuration is set to GET and not to POST". I am running IIS 5.0 on a 2000 OS, I find no documentation on the subject and have little familiarity with IIS. Can anyone help? This is what I have checked thus far - In my IIS folder I click on my default web ste icon (left pane) single click the web site folder, then right click - then go to properties; Above Application settings everything is checked. Execute Permissions - Scripts and Executables Click "Configuration" button - Under App Mappings Tab - Extension - .asp / executable F:\WINNT\System32\inetsrv\asp.dll / limit to: GET,HEAD,POST,TRACE Wouldn't this mean that anything with the .asp extension is configured to GET,HEAD,POST,TRACE?  - DCOM Error Dear all, I have created a form that used a DCOM to search data and display to the user; Before I use IIS 4.0 and it work well. However, after I upgrade the IIS to IIS5.0, the page cannot work due to the code " server.createobject("Info8.Document") ". I have checked my DCOM by using "dcomcnfg" and the info8 is in the DCOM list; however, why the IIS can't create the DCOM object for me and it will show error because the run time expire?  - How To Disable NTLM Authentication and still being able to connect? Hi, I'm trying to access to IIS page from inside another script, and would like to have it simple anonymous connection. Right now it requires NTLM handshake or else access is denied. In virtual directory Authentication Methods I have 'Anonymous access' and 'Integrated Windows Authentication' checked. However if I try and access teh page from another computer I get the permissions error.  - the specified module could not be found Setup a new site iis 4. When it is setup as a new site then whenever a response.redirect is run in the code we get the specified module could not be found. The url it is redirecting to is correct Now when it is setup under the default site as a virtual website everything works fine on that machine. On another server with the same settings we do not have this problem when we setup the site as a new site. Which leads me to believe this is a machine specific problem but i do not have control of this machine...  - Popup Request Hanging Main Window Request I posted this on the aspnet forum to no avail, perhaps someone in this forum can point me in the right direction. Thx~ PJ My web application will open a POPUP that, upon a user action, will initiate a request that will result in a file being sent as an attachment to the client. The download works fine, except that the user is no longer able to browse and get responses in the MAIN window. The request just seems to hang and does not get the response until the download is finished. It only seems to effect the session in which the download is taking place. Other clients, even on the same computer, are not experiencing request/response issues. I doubt it's an issue with the server side code I am using for the download, but here it is nonetheless. Any advice on this issue would be greatly appreciated.  - How to ensure all older versions of Front Page Server Extensions are completely removed from the server? Hello, I am running a windows 2003 server which was upgraded from 2000. When I look at my default web site, I see a tab which says Server Extensions (none of which are set up). I am assuming that this is an older version of Front Page extensions. How can I make sure that all old versions of Frontpage Server Extensions are completely removed from the system? When I look in the C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Web Server Extensions folder, I see folders for: \40 \50 \60 Which I assume are all older versions. Thanks!  - MSMDSRV.EXE using 99% of CPU post Win2k SP4 I just installed Windows 2000 SP4 on a SQL server machine. Upon rebooting the machine, MSMDSRV.EXE was consuming 99% of the CPU, and the machine was extremely slow responding to anything. Stopping the IIS Admin service would bring the CPU usage back down. Everything I have read regarding MSMDSRV.EXE seems to be related to SQL server, and the IIS. Uninstalling IIS will rectify the problem, but I need IIS also. Any ideas what is going on?  - IIS 6.0 Server Extensions I am trying to set up IIS 6.0 on a windows 2003 server, but am running into problems getting to the default website. It works fine on the W2K server with IIS 5.0. I have all the web server extensions enabled, but I get a comment under the properties of the default web site under the tab Server Extensions 2002: "This server has not been configured to use the Server Extensions. To configure it, choose Configure Server Extensions 2002 from the Task menu for this server." I cannot find the Task menu for the life of me.  - OWA is not responding Hello: I have been having problems with my OWA on W2K sp2 server for the last few days. Yesterday it was giving me so many problems I decided to reboot the server and then OWA started to work. Last night somewhere between 8:30pm and 10:30pm the problem started again. If I try an open the page Explorer is displaying the following error: HTTP Error 500-12 Application Restarting Internet Information Services I checked TechNet and found Q248013 "HTTP Error 500-12 Application Restarting" but this does not seem to apply. The event viewer has generated some Event ID 5's with different discriptions. They are at the bottom of this post. Does anyone know what might be going on with this?  - ASP fails to run hi everyone..ive been succesfuly running an intranet site for past one month..suddenly all my asp pages gives http error 500 or 403. I Disabled friendly http errors in my browser and then when i run my IIS home page i.e. servername/virtualdiractory i get the following message displayed: Directory Listing Denied - this virtual directory does not allow contents to be listed. I have set the site to require SSL and 128-bit encryption and i have chosen the Require Client Certificate option in order for the application to require client certificates. If I use IE to call the handler, the site asks for the client certificate. If another application does a web request to the application, the site does not ask for the client certificate. I did a trace using the network monoitor tool and after the client and server hello, the presentation of the server certificate, there is no client certificate requested from the server and the call proceeds as normal to application data transfer.  - Deploying Win2k SP4 Hi, When I apply SP4, I encounter the error "Unable to write ScriptMaps metabase entry" "Failed to execute regsvr32.exe. Error Code 5." What I finally did is 1. Uninstall IIS 2. Install SP4 3. Reinstall IIS No problem so far. I then compare 3 files in the server with another server which has successfully patched with SP4 with IIS running. The 3 files are inetmgr.exe, inetmgr.dll and inetinfo.exe. The files ob both servers are the same in terms of File version and other information.  - Multiple sites and domains on 1 IP question... I have Windows2000 Server with IIS5.0, all service packs installed. My question is, how do I setup multiple sites on my box (1 IP) For example: www.abc.com -> http:/123.123.123.123/abc/index.htm www.xyz.com -> http:/123.123.123.123/xyz/index.htm Do I need to setup my own DNS server with some kind of forwarding? I did a trace using the network monoitor tool and after the client and server hello, the presentation of the  server certificate, there is no client certificate requested from the server and the call proceeds as normal to application data transfer.  - IIS Admin Service will not start, Invalid Name All, I cannot start the IIS admin service (or the ftp or WWW service) on my NT 4.0 box. It says invalid name. It all started when I got the svhost.exe hacker intrusion. Can anyone help me? I reinstalled RPC configuration, and it still does not work.  - iis applications Hi Everyone, Anyone knows of a way to script the creation of an iis application at a certain starting point. Meaning not just creating the virtual root, but also making that directory the sarting point of a new application space, using the mkwebdir.vbs script only creates the virtual root. I'm looking to the eqivalent of going to the properties of a virtual root and hitting "create". Setting the isolation level and friendly names is not a problem through their metabase entries, it's just creating the application, which I believe creates some unique entries per server.  - 500 Server Error (Bad URL) in IIS 5 I am a beginner to IIS, I just installed it. Therefore the problem started after the installation, using the default settings, it is not a upgraded box. When browsing in internet explorer I always get the 500 error (described below). Also, I need to test server in Dreamweaver with the url of my site: http://localhost/MySite/ oh and I get the http 500 error (again). The exact message displayed is: Dreamweaver cannot use the prefix you entered to display live data. Please double-check your site configuration. (HTTP Error 500) The weird thing is that it works in netscape and I can browse my html and asp scripts in netscape. Okee...This is how I browse in IE with the friendly HTTP error turned off: when I typed in the address field: 1) http://<computer name>/ I get 502 BAD GATEWAY. The following error occured: A DNS lookup error occurred. Host was not found. 2) http://127.0.01/ I get 500 Server Error.  - How to figure out which application is listening on TCP port 21 - FTP Service says: Address already in use I've Windows 2000 Advanced Server (SP3). In 'Internet Information Services' the Web Service is running but the FTP Service is stopped. If I try to restart the FTP Service I get the error "Address already in use". To my big surprise netstat -an shows me that there's already another application listening on TCP port 21 Active Connections Proto Local Address Foreign Address State TCP 0.0.0.0:21 0.0.0.0:0 LISTENING TCP 0.0.0.0:80 0.0.0.0:0 LISTENING ... I guess that's the reason why I can't start the FTP Service. Does someone know how to figure out which application is listening on my computer on TCP port 21.  - virt dir OK wwwroot is not I get a 400 file not found while using my site. Everything works until I get to a point of downloading a file off a link (more specifically a report off and asp page). This is on the wwwroot pointing to a different location.  - Newbie needs help with software trying to FTP My new boss wants me to use Online Merchant (a no longer existing shopping cart/website development program) to get a first draft of a web site. The program wishes to "publish" the website. I have directed it to a directory on my computer. I recently installed IIS but know very little about it. The problem is: Online Merchant asks for my ip address (which I used from my computer), user id and password - presumably to use during FTP. Anyone know what user id and password the program might be referring to and where to find it? And do I have to publish the software in a particular directory to use IIS? Thanks!  - Virtual Directory to share on other PC - Help Hi I have IIS v 5.1 installed on a WinXP Pro PC which is not part of a domain. I have tried to create a virtual FTP directory to point at a share on another WinXP machine which is also not in a domain. Both are on the same subnet and I can access each other PC via Windows shares but IIS gives me a red error icon next to the Virtual Directory in IIS. The event log says bad username or password and access via a FTP client cannot connect to this new Virtual Directory. I have created a user account with the same password on the destination PC the same as what IIS uses for guest web access but still no luck. I have windows 2000 server, IIS 5 and I am trying to use
Internet connector license so that users can authenticate
to the AD before getting access to the server.

I tried looking up everywhere with no success. I have put
the server in per seat mode. I have created a group and
given the users access in licensing, options, advanced and
license group with no luck.

I would appreciate any help,
