Hi,

My problem is that I am setting an Windows 2003 Std server with IIS. I could
browse the default "Under Construction" page. But once I join this server to
an domain. I get and error message "HTTP error 401.1 - Unauthorized: Logon
Failed
Internet Information Services.

What is the problem?

I had try going into the Directory Security, Authentication and access
control, Authentication Methods, The Enable anonymous access is tick then
set the Integrated Windows authentication to tick. an box ask for username
and password is display if I enter an valid user it let the page display.
But I don;t want this to happen.

How can I resolve this?

Thank,

S.

You're joining this to a domain or making it the domain controller? A 401.1
when you attempt anonymous access means that the IUSR account (anonymous
user) can not authenticate (bad username or password).

I would suggest removing IIS from this machine then adding it to the =
domain (or promoting it with dcpromo) and then re-install IIS.=20

Yes I am joining this Windows 2003 Std. Server to an domain and then promote
it to be an DC, But once join the IIS still have no problem, is after
promote to an DC the IIS give 401.1 error. I had try in DC state uninstall
and reinstall IIS, but still got error 401.1, I think is the anonymous
access (IUSR account) can not authenticate because I try using an
administrator user and password I got 403 error. But with other normal user
(i.e. users not in administrator group) I got the same 401.1.

Any idea?

Thank,

S.

Check this out:

If IUSR was deleted, that would cause a 401.1 error.
