    - Greetings I am hoping someone here can help me. I have the personal dot.net site I am teaching myself with. I have it hosted and I am having all kinds to problems. My host tells me it the code but I don't believe them because it runs perfectly in VWD2008. I then decided to install IIS7 on my Windows Vista box and SQL server on my WindowsXP box. I copied my web site over to a virtual directly and attempted to open the site in IE. When I did I got this error, HTTP Error 404.17 - Not Found The requested content appears to be script and will not be served by the static file handler. And under Things you can try I have; If you want to serve this content as a static file, add an explicit MIME map. I have no idea what they are talking about and I did a Google search for 404.17 and everything I get back referrers to PHP pages running under IIS. Any help would save what little hair I have left.     - PHP exec() in IIS 6/Windows Server 2003 I have PHP 5 installed on my server running IIS 6 (Windows Server 2003). PHP is running happily on one of the sites hosted on the server however one feature needs to be able to use the exec command to generate PDF reports. I've tried granting execute permissions to the IIS account for the executable but haven't had any luck with it. Even full control to everyone doesn't seem to work (not that I'd leave something like that open in a prod environment).     - Microsoft.Web.Administration.dll Hi, In a configuration application, I programmatically install (allow) IIS 7.0 with required packages. I do it with the help of ServerManager class, defined in Microsoft.Web.Administration.dll The problem is, that if IIS 7.0 is not allowed on a customer machine, the Microsoft.Web.Administration.dll is not installed in System32\inetsrv directory, and application will fail.     - IIS Redirection question Apologies if this is a totally easy question to answer but I am a total newbie to IIS. We just recently acquired a company that hosts its application on IIS 6.0. We are in the process of migrating their application to our data center. The company does not want to have to tell all their users to change their bookmarks and links. My idea was to host a new website that would redirect the users that were using the old URL to the new URL that will be hosted by us. What do I need to do to achieve this? - Setup a website that has redirection to our URL. - Assign it an external IP - Have the company change their external DNS to point to this new external IP.     - W3wp.exe HI, I had installed win2k3 with sp2. IIS is configured and running in this server. An error message which i couldn't quit from my server. The error message is as follows. In title its says as notification window w3wp.exe - Application error. The instruction at '0x22171304' referenced memory at '0x22171304'.The memory could not be written. In event viewer i caputred few events which are. Event id :10016 User: NT AUTHORITY\NETWORK SERVICE. Event id : 1009 User: N/A A process serving application pool 'DefaultAppPool' terminated unexpectedly. The process isd was '5336'. THe process exit code was '0xc0000005 Hot fix which i tried is WindowsServer2003-KB892988-x86-enu.exe, But while executing this it says that newer version is already available than the installation.     - IIS 5 - virtual bytes continuosly maxes out I have a Windows 2000 server running IIS 5. I have multiple ASP (classic) based sites running under Medium (Pooled) Application Protection. All sites are essentially clones and are constructed of essentially the same ASP pages. Every week to two weeks the sites stop responding or generate various error messages. The problem appears to be memory related, a leak perhaps. If I track the virtual bytes for the DLLHOST process that these sites run in, it eventually grows to the 2GB per process limit, at which point the problems occur. This has been going on for a while and I just unload the application periodically to resolve the issue temporarily. I'd like to finally try to get to the bottom of this now though. When virtual bytes increases, it usually jumps up instantly as opposed to a slow grow. This System Monitor screen shot shows the latest increase. http://www.50amp.com/iis/memory_tracking.jpg That's showing samples taken at 20 second intervals. For a more long term display of this information see this graph: http://www.50amp.com/iis/graph.jpg This shows memory tracking data from 7/23/08 to 7/30/08. On 7/23 virtual bytes jumped 256MB. Over the course of the next 7 days it stayed rather steady until 7/30 when it jumped 128MB. The last few days I've been using Debug Diagnostic Tool to see if I could nail this down. I'm not well versed at interpreting memory dumps but I have been able to gleen some info. Here's the latest Debug Diag report that was tracking memory usage when that latest jump in virtual bytes occurred (in ZIP format). http://www.50amp.com/iis/Memory_Report__Date_07_30_2008__Time_09_14_18AM__375.zip This is what I know... the default process heap seems to be where all of the memory allocation is going. The details for Heap 1 - 0x00070000 show several entries under the Segment Information subheading. Each of those segments corresponds to the increases I'm seeing in system monitor for virtual bytes. When a segment fills up a new segment is requested, the latest being a 128MB segment. What that means exactly I'm not sure. That particular report represents DebugDiag monitoring memory for a 2 hour period.     - High req/sec We have a home grown application written in .net 1.0 sp2 which on occassion the web servers will get a high number of req/sec (in ASP applications object in perfmon) which will cause an increase in CPU, sometimes to 100% For a reason we have not be able to indentify a users session will generate about 500 req/sec or so. If several users have this issue at the same time the CPU reaches 100%. Clients are running IE 6.0 (on metaframe 4.0 runnning on windows 2003 sp1 server) IIS is windows 2003, no Service Pack Any feedback to help us indentify the problem would be appreciated.     - Include does not update Good day .. Our company has our website hosted on a win2003 server .... The entire site is html only.. Included on all the pages is this bit of code :  This refers to a footer for all pages (to do some quick marketing banners, sponsored links, etc) This footer page is sometimes updated, the content should then be displayed on all other pages. However recently the footer page was changed, but teh "new footer" is only on the index page (home page) We code our pages with an html editor and upload using Bulletproof FTP.     - Strange stacktrace result Hi everyone, I have an ASP.NET 1.1 application, that started to produce errors on the production server while runs smoothly on an exactly similar debug/development environment. I have the exact location where the application crashes in release mode but runs fine in debug mode. I printed out the stack trace just before the crash location, and i found a strange thing that i don't understand. There is a line that is "missing" from the trace in release mode but it is in the trace in debug mode. (It's "set_LastModifiedBy(String)" which is an object property-set.) The execution path (regarding the source code) is exactly the same certainly. What is even stranger is if we change the property type from string to SqlString (for example), it will immediately appear in the trace like in debug mode. What could be the reason for this? Here are the two stack traces. (I've put a * in front of the line in question). Any help is greatly appreciated.     - How to replicate IIS (5.1) configuration from one box to another? What I'm trying to do is replicate an entire application environment from one box (on which the environment is developed) onto a number of laptops so the sales guys can show off the software in an environment which contains pre-set application meta-data, sample data, etc. The entire environment consists of 1. Database 2. Data Files 3. Web Applications (The software is treated separately since we have a separate, production MSI for the deployment of our production software.) I'm using Wise Installer to package items 1, 2 and 3 into an MSI. Since items 2 and 3 are a variably changing set of artifacts, it helps immensely that Wise provides a wildcard facility so that I can specify to package all files in a given folder structure into the MSI. As long as the artifacts are restricted to a small number of well-known starting folder locations this works. So I can pick up all of my data file artifacts, and even all of my web application *files* (i.e. ASPX, bin, etc.) using wildcards to specify to pick up all files starting from a few folder locations on the source box. What I can't do though, is use a wildcard to specify all virtual folders on the source box, to be packaged for deployment. Our application is open-ended, allowing for interface extensions to be written as external web applications. This means that the guys who put the demo environment together are continuously coming up with new web application extensions. References to these web applications are picked up in the database and the physical filesystem folders and files for these web applications are picked up by the filesystem wildcard specification. The only piece I'm missing is the IIS virtual folders themselves with their various application settings. Since the target IIS environment will be a clone of the source, is there any way that I can script this, or use a DOS command to export the IIS metadata on the source machine, package it for deployment to the target and then reimport it to IIS on the target in order to recreate the IIS environment from the source on the target? Unless I can find some way to do this, I'll need to contantly keep revising the Wise installation script as IIS virtual directories are continuously created, modified and removed. I'd like to find some way to port the IIS configuration from the source box onto the target boxes without having to do this constant revision. Thanks very much for any advice which you can provide!     - force an ssl redirect using iis 6.0 for one specific directory within site I have another unusual situation - a website with one folder that we'd like to force an ssl connection on. This folder does not contain a default page (at website owners request - they just want a simple directory listing). We don't want to force an ssl connection for the whole site, just that folder. Can I put a custom 401 error page in that specific directory (not a default page - just a vbscript ASP page that contains the redirect code), then set up IIS 6.0 to redirect to this custom error page in case someone types in http://www.website.com/sensitivedirectory instead of the https: ?     - Why is aspnet_wp.exe still alive after web site is stopped in IIS I have IIS 5.1 on Windows XP. I noticed that the process aspnet_wp.exe was still alive after I stopped the web site in IIS. Even more strange, every time after I killed aspnet_wp.exe from Task Manager, a new aspnet_wp.exe process was created immediately. Does anybody know why this was happening? These web pages ran fine with no problems in Windows Server 2000. Now we run into an intermittent problem (almost every day) where the .Net pages hang with event ID 1088.     - unwanted authentication prompt - unusual situation I have an unusual situation - a folder within a public website on a server running IIS 6.0 has permissions set to allow anyone to browse to the folder and view its contents without a default page. No problem - browse to the folder and view contents without index.html. However, ONE folder within this 'public' folder is protected by an authentication program installed on the server called Authentix, which uses basic authentication to verify usernames and passwords located in a database (ODBC connection). I can browse to any of the 'public' folders without a problem initially, then if the 'authentix protected' folder is accessed via username and password and then closed, when I try to browse to one of the 'public folders' AFTER the protected area, I get an UNWANTED username and password prompt, not by the authentix protection program, but a generic IIS authentication prompt.     - Export IIS config from 32 bit to 64 bit Hi, We are migrating all our web servers from 32 bit to 64 bit Windows 2003 R2 Std and I am using iiscnfg to import and export the IIS configuration. The problem is once I import the config into the new x64 version of Windows the websites prompts for a username and password when I try to access it. All permissions are correct as I importted it from a working config. Keep in mind that we have ported the web code over to run as 64 bit so we do not need to allow for 32 bit mode. Also I am testing with a static website that was importted and still experience this issue.     - Website replication Hi, My company hosts a number of websites in-house using IIS7. We want to create a 'hot standby' machine in case the main one breaks and therefore want to replicate the content from the main machine to the backup. Hi, I have a busy classic ASP web application running on IIS7, on Windows Server 2003 SP2 x64 We're intermittently getting the following error in the event log: Faulting application svchost.exe, version 5.2.3790.3959, faulting module iisutil.dll, version 6.0.3790.3959, fault address 0x00000000000060b0. IIS appears to restart as all user sessions are reset (so all our users have to log in again). I can't get to the bottom of what's causing the problem. We can't use iisstate as it doesn't work on x64. If I use windbg, then the site slows down so that it's unusable when I attach to the process. Some of the searching I've done usggested a possible problem with PAE. But we only have 4GB of memory in the server. Others stuff I've read suggests SP2 would sort out the problems. I've reinstalled SP2 and the problem hasn't gone away. It may or may no be related, but our System Event Log keeps getting corrupted and we can't work out why. In all cases an IISRESET fixes everything up. The crashes can happen several times a day or once per week, it is entirely random - the only thing common to these servers is that they all run ISAPI_Rewrite which I do believe is the root cause of all the crashes; however DebugDiag analysis reports on inetinfo.exe crash dumps do not mention ISAPI_Rewrite and so they don't want to know. Is there anything I can do to get concrete evidence as to the cause of these crashes? I am desperatly seeking solutions now, these are live, busy production servers. I'd like to be able send links to my clients so they can view movies directly without having to down them through our FTP. So i pointed the default web site to the location of my web sites, so far so good. I tried to view a page and IIS7 threw an error saying that there was some asp.net error.     - Accessing a remote SMB share using ASP under IIS Hi, I have recently inherited a very large, very old ASP application. The app is on a cluster of web servers, that also talk to a database server running SQL Server 2005. Among other things, the app has a page that accesses a remote file share (Samba, actually) down a 1mb private circuit. The page also appears to load in a perl script that blocks execution while it waits for the machine with the share to read in the file that's been written, and write a 'response' file - which the script then reads in. During periods of intense load, the entire application seems to perform poorly, with page requests timing out or taking a long time to return data. This behaviour is exhibited by all ASP pages, not just ones that perform the file exchange or access the database. Our monitoring shows that the web servers do occasionally peak at 100% CPU usage, but it is not constant. My question is whether the performance of all ASP pages in a given application could be affected by having an ASP page that is working with SMB shares, or taking a long time to execute? If so, what is the bottleneck? Pooled worker threads? Outgoing SMB ports? I was also wondering what people might recommend for monitoring the health of this system to attempt to identify the cause of the problem. I realise I have been pretty vague, so many thanks in advance for any help people may offer, as well as suggetions about how I can provide more information about the issue.     - w3svc error event 1011 application pool error. Hi, I have a windows 2k3 server withi IIS6.0. I have an asp.net application running on .Net 2.0 . Lately i have had sessions getting lost randomly. A user would store it in one page and then it would be gone if he goes to the next page at times. After dicsounting other reasons, i thought of taking a look at the IIS and the possiblity that the worker process was getting reset. I have tons of the following error in Systems Events Log. Source: W3SVC EventID: 1011 A process serving application pool 'xxx' suffered a fatal communication error with the World Wide Web Publishing Service. The process id was '4236'. The data field contains the error number. Data 0000: 6d 00 07 80 After researching a bit on the web i installed Debug Diagnostic. I have got dumps (in .dmp format) as well as log files. I looked at the log files as well as opend the dumps in Debug Diagnostics. But i'm not sure how to understand what it means. Could anyone point me to a resource as to how to analyze log files / dump files to locate what is causing the problem ? Or is anyone willing to take a look at it ? I have several printers installed on my server that hosts IIS. They are
actually printers that are shared over the network from another machine, but
regardless, I have them installed. For some reason none of the printers
show up in www.domain.com/printers Is there something I need to do to make
them appear or am I going about this the wrong way? Any help appreciated.
