        • Using UPN logon for usernames which exceed 20 characters Hi, We're looking for a way to allow the UPN login to be used in order to login to MS FTP without having to specify the domain. We've followed the following article: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en- us;313820 Which works fine with usernames =< 20 characters, but with usernames > 20 characters the UPN login doesn't work... For example, take the following user: Username: 1234567890123456789012345678901234567890 Post-2k Username: 12345678901234567890 Using the username: 1234567890123456789012345678901234567890 Doesn't work, the username: 12345678901234567890 Works fine, and the username: 1234567890123456789012345678901234567890@domain Works fine... I seems to only require the "@domain" if the username exceeds 20 characters... Is anyone aware of a way to make larger logins work on MS FTP without specifying the domain? Thanks Dave Tag: SSL - Page cannot be displayed Tag: 302329

        • Global.asa not firing - IIS 5.1 Win XP Pro I am a newbie with IIS. I am having trouble with a Global.asa file in a FrontPage web using IIS 5.1 with Win XP Pro. The website has a form that sends results to an .mdb database. ASP scripts will run if I remove the global.asa file, but it won't fire with the Global.asa file. I have been reading about the virtual directory having to be an "application". When I access the properties of the web folder in the MMC the application name is blank. That's the way FrontPage created it. Does anyone know if there is a fix for this? TIA Tag: SSL - Page cannot be displayed Tag: 302319

        • SSL Renewal ?? Recently I renewed my Server certificate using the Web Server Certificate wizard and creating a new cert.cer file to provice Verisign to renew my SSL key. I did the normal renewal process on Verisign's web site got the new cert.cer file from them and tried to apply it. Now here is my problem. When I remove the current certificate from the server ( which expires today ) and try and add the new one in, it wouldn't let me. It keeps putting back in the one I removed. How do I make IIS ask for the location of the new certificate I got from Verisign? Thanks for any replies ... Rick Tag: SSL - Page cannot be displayed Tag: 302314

This is most likely the result of VB COM objects not being compiled with both Unattended Execution and Retain in Memory set. This is documented in MS KB article: Q241896. To address this problem please perform the following steps: 1. Recompile all VB COM objects with both Unattended Execution and Retain in Memory set in the Project Settings. 2. Download and install the latest VB runtime (MSVBVM60.dll). Please see http://www.microsoft.com/downloads for more information. This will not prevent the hang but may prevent other issues. 3. <OPTIONAL> It is strongly recommended that when the DLL(s) are recompiled that the symbols be compiled as well. This will make them available should other issues occur in the future. Closing open log file C:\temp\iisstate\output\IISState-2576.log -- Tag: SSL - Page cannot be displayed Tag: 302303

        • IIS 5 (anonymous user) access to Novell Netware (5.1) fileserver? Hi, Have one problem: In IIS 5 and one virtual directory there that I have created there I have choosen to use a local user on the Win 2000 Server. This Win 2000 server is logged on Novell Netware (Novell Client 4.83 is in use). This user that we use in Windows 2000 Server account is also in Novell Netware (5.1) with same password as in Windows 2000 server. All permissions on the folder in Novell Netware file server is OK (the Novell Administrator has done that part) but the IIS user can not "see" the files on the Novell file server. There is no problem to access the Novell file server folder via File manager (Explorer) from Win 2000 server. The problem is IIS -> Novell file server. I'm not quite sure how the local user that IIS use in the Win 200 Server can be granted access to the Novell file server since the log on to Novell Netware is a separate thing. Win 2000 Server: local user ->IIS-> Novell file server This does not work... There is abosolutely no problem when Novell is not involved, for example in an NT domain or AD and access to a folder on a file server ther -that is tested. Does it matter what user we are logged in locally on the Win 2000 server? (we are no logged in as the user we use in IIS and this user is member ofl ocal Administrators group on the Win 2000 server). /Bo Tag: SSL - Page cannot be displayed Tag: 302295

        • Access to winnt\system32 outside of my document-root Hi! I'm a totally IIS Newbie: I have a Python-CGI Script installed, which needs to execute a "diff" command. This is done by the Python-Call popen(...). Unforunatly Python uses internally always the string "C:\\WINNT\\system32\\cmd.exe /c diff -u <file_1> <file_2>". If I execute the python-Script from command-line, everything works fine. Diff is installed. My Problem now is, that i always get the error: "access denied (5)" as the return of my python script. Can it be, that the IIS is not allowed to execute programs outside of the webroot in its default configuration? If yes, how can I configure the IIS in order to have access to winnt\system32? IF no, why can't i execute cmd.exe? IIS-Version: 5.0 Thanks, Leo Tag: SSL - Page cannot be displayed Tag: 302293

        • accessing data Hi all, Please bear with me as this may seem like an obvious question. Essentially we are looking to produce a small web site, that will allow users to post data to a database and recieve data from a database. Whilst I have been able to do this as an intranet. I am concerned and this is where my knowledge fails me, as to how this would work if it was published on the web server that sits outside of our firewall (our public server). Essentially, what I am looking for is information (idiots guide on how this works) essentially as far as I can see we need the clients to log on to the site from the internet and interract with a database that sits behind our firewall. Hope this doesnt sound to confusing, but i guess im a little confused myself. Appreciate any help with this matter. Regards Ian Tag: SSL - Page cannot be displayed Tag: 302280

        • Problems with FTP server. Hi, For reasons I have been unable to determine, sometimes people are unable to log onto my virtual FTP server with a GUI FTP client. But at the same time they can via command line clients? This is reproducible on the server and since this strange behavior happens to many people I think it is a WIN2k server thing? Any ideas ? Thanks, S Tag: SSL - Page cannot be displayed Tag: 302277

        • IIS log interpretation Hello! I have had problems for a long time with IIS hanging now and then. Have tried with rebooting the server every morning, installed IIS recycle tool, and a lot of other stuff but nothing seems to do the trick. Finally, I installed IISState and captured a dump file the last time it hung up... and now I put my last hope to you guys in this group that you can help me interpret the log file. I would appreciate any help!!!! • Max file size when publishing with FrontPage I seem to be unable to publish using FrontPage large files in my web site to a folder on my computer (I do this for backup purposes). This has only started today and it's a 2gb avi file that's causing the problem. When FrontPage get's to this file whilst publishing to a folder on my computer I get the following message: "An error occurred accessing your FrontPage web files. Authors - if authoring against a web server, please contact the webmaster for this server's site. WebMasters - please see the server's system log for more details." Everything before this file goes through OK, and if I exclude this file whilst publishing the remainmder of the site publishes just fine. I have looked at the log file and there is nothing untoward there. Has anyone seen this message before? Is there some sort of a buffer, or timout, or max file size setting in IIS or FrontPage that I can change to make this go away? My computer is on a company network and is going through a particular proxy server for LAN internet connection. Cheers Radek Tag: SSL - Page cannot be displayed Tag: 302249

        • inetinfo.exe locks a file Hello, I have the following problem: We made an interface between our 2 programs. The interface copies a file form one server to another. Basically we just use the commands GET, PUT and DELETE. The problem is now that the file cannot be deleted. It's also not possible to move, copy or rename it. Not even outside FTP with explorer !!!??? I keep getting access denied although i am the administrator ?? When i ask for a list of open files i see that this file is in use by inetinfo.exe. Does anyone know about this problem ?? if so, do you know a remedie ?? The problem occurs on a NT4 machine with SP6 and Option Pack 4 Many thanks in advance, Tag: SSL - Page cannot be displayed Tag: 302248

        • Admin Rights required for .Net dvlpment...surely not? I'm setting up an iis5 server in a university setting to allow .net project creation from VS .Net. I have the 1.1 framework installed as well as fp extensions 2002. Created a folder as an application in Internet Services mgr & virtual directory which points to file system folder. In the frontpage extensions, I've made sure the user acct has author permissions. Anyway, the issue is it works great when the user acct is in the admin group of the iis 5 server, but if not a local admin VS .Net errors out on the creatioin of the web application. Also, played around with the local security policy "debug applications" as well as the "machine.config" : <processModel userid account. Any pointers would be appreciated. • Huge page load-time diferential NS -vs- IE http://www.hear.fm/dennis/index.html Click the above link from Netscape and the page loads in < 3 seconds. Do the same from IE and the page loads in > 73 seconds. I had been thinking that the compression tactics I was using were at issue, but the above server has not ever been configured to serve compressed files. The status bar on your browser will tell you how long it takes to load the page from the client side. The categories.html page is about 300k. It's framed in with a white background. I'm thinking it could be something dealing with how the html is parsed diferently between the browsers. Is there any way to tell? TIA, D. Tag: SSL - Page cannot be displayed Tag: 302176

        • Limit on number of directories? Hey all, Might be a question suitable for a different NG - but here goes anyway... I'm making a webapplication that generates a folder for every user that's added, but I'm wondering if there's a limit on Windows 2000 Server (running NTFS) on the numbers of files or directories that can exist in the same directory. Does anyone know? Thanks in advance. -- Tony Lorentzen Professional webdeveloper Tag: SSL - Page cannot be displayed Tag: 302153

        • Can't specify location of log files? Hi, I'd like to specify the exact location where my logfiles live. For example, for site www.MyDomain.com, I might want the logs stored in 'c:\logs\MyDomain.com'... However, IIS insists on creating a subfolder in the specified logpath with the name 'w3svcx' where 'x' is the count of sites running on the server. So the logs would in effect end up stored here: c:\logs\MyDomain.com\w3svc1 I'm not sure why IIS likes to create that funny subfolder. Is there at least a way to change the name of the subfolder? When I referred to the subfolder as "funny" I meant strange-funny, not haha-funny. David Tag: SSL - Page cannot be displayed Tag: 302130
