        • new to iis - createobject won't work in cgi I'm new to using IIS. I've been using 3rd party webservers up until now, but I'd like to switch over. The problem is that I have a vb6 program running through cgi. I'm late binding to another program's library running on the computer using createobject. Through the 3rd party webserver it works fine, but through IIS it fails. Is there a security setting blocking this? I can't seem to find one. • SQL XML and IIS 6 Hello there! I hope someone can be of assistance. I used the SQL XML 3 tool to define virtual directories in IIS 5.1 (our test environment). The XML files use XSLT to translate data from a database successfully. When I create the virtual directories in IIS 6 (live environment), the pages do not display but return error 500 - internal server error. Any specific reason perhaps why IIS 6 does not display the XML pages? Tag: NEWBIE: Global.asa error on new Win2003/IIS6 server Tag: 379864

        • Microsoft Script Debuggers opens without an error inside Hi all, I've this strange problem. I've deployed a big and complicated ASP web application on different web server, all of them installed with Win 2000 Advanced Server SP3. I'm completly sure that my web application has no asp errors, but randomly and sometimes on one of these server Microsoft Script Debugger opens without an error inside. In that moment there are no error because the IIS is not blocked as when a asp error is shown inside Microsoft Script Debugger. Why does it happen ? best regards Tag: NEWBIE: Global.asa error on new Win2003/IIS6 server Tag: 379862

        • IIS 5.0 multipart fails with jpeg We have a w2k server running IIS 5. Using multipart uploads has been never a problem. Now, if we post a multipart from with a file input field upload fails. This happens randomly with big and small jpg files. Uploading a different file format like .exe works fine. Tracking TCP traffic we realized a HTTP Error 400 "Bad Request" when upload jpegs. This is very strange because sometimes jpgs are uploaded without any error but now more often we getting those error. I looks like the IIS assuming the upload is finished but it isn't! Therefore IIS send "Bad Request" back to the browser what is causing the error. Any ideas want went wrong? Tag: NEWBIE: Global.asa error on new Win2003/IIS6 server Tag: 379861

        • w3wp High CPU Usage - iisstate log included All, Everytime our site is accessed the CPU usage for the w3wp.exe process climbs to 95%+ and stays high for a long while, making the site extremely slow to load and almost unusable. The server uses W2K3 (SP1) and IIS6. The site was built using Microsoft Content Management Server 2002 (SP1a) and ASP.Net The IIS settings are the default ones. I've run DebugDiag and iisstate, but couldn't make much sense of the log file. Could someone please help and point to the problem? The iisstate log file is included below. • Unique IP for one website - IIS 5 Following this thread: http://groups.google.com/group/microsoft.public.inetserver.iis/browse_thread/thread/f1ac75810d4d341b/6b3f904176aba933?lnk=st&q=question+on+host+header&rnum=1#6b3f904176aba933 I would ask how can I assign another IP to a website to catch *.mydomain.com. Now all websites point to 10.0.0.2 and, according Ken advice, I configured newtork-card to add another IP: 10.0.0.3. How should I set up web site with that IP (properly natted from internet to lan zone) ? I think: Properties --> Website --> Advanced --> Ip address TCP port Host 10.0.0.3 80 <empty> But it doesn't work! If I ping from command prompt: ping test.mydomain.com DNS resolve correctly IP address. I don't know where else modify settings... And what about call website only from IP address? 217.xxx.xxx.xxx is natted --> 10.0.0.3 and when I browse internet this way: http://217.xxx.xxx.xxx I can see website, I would avoid this. Any help much much appreciated. • Object invoked disconnected from client Error Running into a problem with Windows Server 2003 and IIS6. We have an ASP app which does late binding to a DLL written in VB6. This VB6 dll has a form with a 3rd party OCX on it. Under Windwos 2000 and IIS 5 we have no problems. But when we run it under Windows Server 2003 with IIS6 we constantly get "Object invoked has disconnected from the client" error. I can't figure out what the problem is. I've created an executable which has a reference to this DLL and everything runs fine so I know it's not a problem with the DLL or OCX. Does anyone have any ideas of what to look for? • DebugDiag can not generate dump file Hi, Our asp.net web site is experiencing multiple "service unavailable" error every day. I have installed the DebugDiag try to capture the dump file. However, I was not able to generate the dump every time the crash happened. I'm using Windows 2003 Server SP1. I connect to the server using remote desktop. I started the iis diagnostic tool using windows scheduler with administrator identity. The "use service mode to overcome terminal server limitation" flag was checked. What am I missing here? In my opinion it should only recycle the affected application pool and not the entire W3SVC service. Has anyone else experienced this? Any workaround? Should I report this as a bug to PSS? Thanks. • How do I know what version of IIS is on my server? I realize this sounds like a silly question, but I can't find anywhere that tells me what version of IIS I have on my Server2000 box. Yes, I know we should rebuild our webserver with Server2003/IIS6....but I have to wait. Poking around in the IIS properties, I have one dialog box that says IIS 3 on the header bar...but I though server 2000 shipped with IIS 5? Is there a magic spot I can find this out? • Windows server 2003 Web Edition - II6 We have had this problem with our IIS web servers for quite some time we can't seem to nail down. IE is caching temp files in C:\WINDOWS\Temp\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5 and then a subfolder of the cache. It's caching bitmaps of a snap shot when a customer surfs to that page and a call is made. We can't locate the setting to turn this cashing off for Windows and the problem is we're running out of space often because it can cache 500 MB's in a day. If the problem were in IE we'd have no problem, we could just turn the cache off. Thoughts? Tag: NEWBIE: Global.asa error on new Win2003/IIS6 server Tag: 379806

        • HTTP 404 - File or Directory not found error message I have a Windows 2003 Server w/ IIS 6 running. I have a new website, but I cannot get the index.html page to display. Instead, I get the HTTP 404 error message. I enabled ASP and ASP.Net but that does not work. Is there anything else that I can try? Any help is much appreciated. • Using Windows Login for web folder Hello, I'm having difficulty with setting a single folder to use Windows Authentication (maybe that's not correct terminology, but windows user name and password login) . It seems I get all or nothing and no authentication window using IIS5 (I believe it is). This is an administration folder that I'm trying to secure and I don't really want to do a bunch of ASP.net work to do this. Is there a tutorial somewhere or can someone give me some pointers on what I need to use Windows Authentication for this folder? Thanks! • iis 6 Anonymous Authentication returns SQL Login failed for user 'NT AUTHORITY\ANONYMOUS LOGON'. I have a iis web server and a remote SQl server. I set the web server to use anonymous access of a domain account. The web server can access the SQL server fine, except sometimes in certain actions like clicking on some aspx link or button, it will result in SQL Login failed for user 'NT AUTHORITY\ANONYMOUS LOGON'. Usually this happens when the page has loaded and sit for sometime, then click on the link or button. Have any one seen it before? Any help will be appreciated. • IIS 6 app pool memory usage questions 1. is it normal for an app pool to use a lot more virtual memory than RAM, say 15 times as much? 2. what can I expect the overhead per application pool to be? reason I as is I am wondering how many app pools I can have on a server. 3. where can I find benchmarks on how much memory an app should use? I am looking to break up application into their own app pools to isolate them from each other, but in doing so I noticed that each app pool that uses the 1.1 framework is consuming over 400 megs in virtual memory apps using the 2.0 framework use up over 500 megs of virtual memory, which is higher than the default for app pool recycling based on memory usage. I am trying to find out if that is normal, but haven't had much luck yet. thanks Tag: NEWBIE: Global.asa error on new Win2003/IIS6 server Tag: 379785

        • Unusual Content-Disposition issue Hi, I'm not sure if this is an IIS issue or a problem with IE, but here goes. I'm developing an online File Manager program in .Net, one part of the site allows you to view all the files, and download them to the local PC, to do this I'm using the Content-Disposition=attachment header to force IE to give the save dialogue rather than open the file directly in IE. To do this I have a hidden IFRAM, that get it's location update to GetFile.aspx?id=--------- this sets the correct headers, and sends the file down in the stream. This works fine on WinXP, but when I try this on Windows 2003 (SP1) with IE6.0.3970.1830(SP1) it still loads the file inside IE, the strange thing is, if I go directly to the GetFile.aspx page in IE, I get the Save dialogue as expected, so it seems as it's an issue doing this with IFrames. *confused* The headers sent by IIS are: HTTP/1.1 200 OK Server: Microsoft-IIS/5.1 Date: Tue, 14 Mar 2006 16:06:44 GMT X-Powered-By: ASP.NET X-AspNet-Version: 1.1.4322 Content-Disposition: attachment; filename=DSCN1431.JPG; Cache-Control: private Content-Type: image/jpeg Content-Length: 380282 The same thing happens when using IIS6 Any Ideas? • IIS won't look where I'm pointing. Is it dumb? Or is it just me? I'm an IIS newbie so please bear with me... We are migrating a currently working, .NET web app to a new server (both 2003 Svr). One of the application pages uses an IFrame to host legacy asp pages. The IFrame points to a folder in inetpub. On the old server, inetpub resided on the c: drive and the legacy folder was not a virtual directory. On the new system, we have set up an inetpub on d: and the folder resides there. Everything works fine except that the IFrame absolutely will not see files in that folder. I have tried it as a virtual directory. I have even tried moving the folder to inetpub on the c: drive; but to no avail. I've checked everything from odbc connections to sql aliases. Can anyone suggest things for me to check/look into? -- Thanks, CGW Tag: NEWBIE: Global.asa error on new Win2003/IIS6 server Tag: 379781

        • Default max-age setting in IIS Does IIS have a default setting for the Cache-Control header's max-age parameters? Our IIS 6 server is sending: Cache-Control: max-age=172800 on all JavaScript files requested (48 hours caching). We would like to change this setting to 6 hours but the application being hosted has 100's of javascript files all over the place and using the MMC to do this (Content Headers) is not feasible. In the metabase.xml I found 1 reference to "max-age" but it was pertaining to http compression which we do use. However the value is another "max-age=86400". I am hoping for a registry entry which I can edit with regedit. Jack PS: Is there any way to define cache settings per mime type like in Apache? • More than just IIS Log Information ?? Hi, I dont know if this is the right forum for this question but I hope someone is able to answer this for me. I know a lot of information can be retrieved using IIS Log files. But there seems to be something that my boss wants me to do. Find a way to implant a cookie on user and get more information than just the information that is retrieved by those log files. He says one can get more information like browser resolution and stuff(which he didnt explain what exactly it is). I was wondering if there any way of doing this and some information like that? Thanks in advance Subrato Tag: NEWBIE: Global.asa error on new Win2003/IIS6 server Tag: 379774

I see many applications listed under this app pool on my Windows 2003 sp1 web server. • Constantly Flushing DNS Cache After doing all the latest Windows Updates as of 3/9/2006, I am constantly having to to a IPCONFIG /REGISTERDNS on my webserver multiple times a day. I have checked everything I can think of to correct the issue. What would cause this to happen. Nothing has changed for ISPs DNS record, checked that. The machine will not even respond to http://IP ADDRESS when tried via a web browser. Once I do the command above it work fine from anywhere between 15 - 60 minutes. Any help would be apprecitated. • Static & Dynamic Content Hi all Just a quick query, are there any preferred standards when you have a web-site that contains a mixture of HTML and say, ASP & ASP.Net apps? We currently have our applications embedded in our static content virual directories, I think this is a bad idea and would favour seperating our dynamic content from our static content (into seperate sites) as using our existing method is proving to be a maintenance nightmare. Any thoughts/suggestions on this? Thanks Kev Tag: NEWBIE: Global.asa error on new Win2003/IIS6 server Tag: 379768

        • CGI Application fails if HTTP-Get includes Data in Cookie Header Hi Newsgroup I recently moved my website from IIS5.0 to 6.0. So far i've got it up and running fine. Exept for one thing: I have a CGI-Application that sends Cookies with encrypted fields (Special characters) to the client. If this cookie is not present (deleted), Everything works fine. The cookie is saved locally then. If you navigate through the site or start a new session (when the cookie already is present) the webserver answers with a http "400 - Bad Request". It seems to be the behaviour as described in this article: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/824446/en-us I analysed this with a network sniffer tool. If it works there is "nearly" nothing in the http-header-cookie field (as there is no cookie). If it fails there are special characters in this field. Unfortunately the patch from the article is already installed, as it came with SP1 for Win2003. The workaround has no effect. As the workaround deals with regional options, it may be important to know, that the OS is an English Windows server with a german User interface. Any ideas? Thanks for your support! • ASP 0201 - Invalid Default Script Language XP Pro SP2 / IIS 5.1 Oof. IIS is killing me on this one! All requests for ASP pages result in this error, but other pages (e.g. html, aspx, etc) work fine. I've searched extensively for a solution, and tried the following without success: 1) Specified language in ASP page (<%@ Language="VBScript" %>) 2) Changed/Reset default script language in IIS (currently it's "VBScript") 3) Added IUSR to Administrators group 4) Granted explicit permissions to IUSR on asp.dll, vbscript.dll and scrrun.dll 5) Reinstalled IIS Interestingly, when I try to install the script engine (5.6) it fails with the error message, "Error registering the OCX C:\Windows\system32\scrrun.dll". Likewise, a manual registration via regsvr32 fails. I am probably forgetting some important detail, so let me know if you've got any questions. Any help will be much appreciated. - TIA Jared Tag: NEWBIE: Global.asa error on new Win2003/IIS6 server Tag: 379736

        • Web page redirect option I have 2 servers. The PDC is running Windows 2003 Server Standard and the other is running Windows 2000 Server Standard. The Windows 2000 server has IIS and Exchange 2003 runnig on it. We would like to spread the load and have the web page running on a 3rd server. Will I have to remove IIS on the existing server and then reinstall it on the 3rd server? Will it automatically find the IIS running when someone tries to get to our webpage? Thanks for the information. Tom Tag: NEWBIE: Global.asa error on new Win2003/IIS6 server Tag: 379735

        • IIS 6 - "HTTP Error 500.13 - Server error: Web server is too busy." On any websites we have setup that share an IP address (one site is a catch-all and the others have host headers) we're sporadically getting the following error if we try to hit an .asp page... "HTTP Error 500.13 - Server error: Web server is too busy." For other sites that use the same code base but use a different IP address, we do not get this error. If anyone could help it would be greatly appreciated! ~Robin Tag: NEWBIE: Global.asa error on new Win2003/IIS6 server Tag: 379728
