    - 404 fails for aspx but works for asp and htm Hi I appear to have a configuration problem whereby a redirect I have set in IIS fails for files with the aspx extension but works for all asp and htm. I have even tried settting the Custom Errors for a 404 to redirect to a local url for all web sites, yet it does not get caught.     - Will IIS work in this SAN arrangement? I would like to utilize our existing SAN to host IIS' web content. In other words, put inetpub on the SAN storage and hook the IIS box up to the SAN via Fibre Channel HBA. This is not an issue. The question is, eventually we will have more than one IIS server...this extra IIS server will host the exact same sites and content, it will be for the purposes of running NLB for load-balancing/redundancy. To save from having to sync separate inetpub folders via a sync tool like DoubleTake or the like for both IIS servers, I'd like to just point IIS on the two IIS boxes to the same back-end inetpub folder on the SAN.     - FTP server "attacks" help. Hi, I run a FTP server on IIS 5.1 (in XP) and lately my logs show that a wide range of IPs have been accessing the ftp account through an anonymous log on. I know htat I can close down anonymous access to the FTP server but I wonder if there is another way to counter act this? I also wonder whether anyone can shed light on why and what the people are trying to do to or with my computer. They have created a bunch of nonsense directories, some of which, strangely, I have been unable to delete and appear to have no name. I am going to post a segment of the log below just as an example.     - A strange error in FTP on IIS6 and connection through ftp client Hy Guys I've a really strange error while trying to connect to a remote server of my own via CuteFTP. I get "Can't read from control socket. Socket error = #10054" error message. Just after logged in, while cute try to browse the folder list. It's not a login trouble, as you see, nor firewall. I underline that I'm able to log in to the server, and a log analyze report successfull connection to the server. Using the ms-dos ftp I could login and browse the folder without matter. The strange thing is that this server has 4 IP address and if I use the original (first address) in the list I could access, and browse the folders. If I change the IP to the second or third or fourth address (correctly setupping the firewall too) I get that message. I don't think this is a problem of passive mode. using the adsutil to query the service with the /MSFTPSVC/PassivePortRange the results is no passive port setup. So they doesn't exist also for the main address. I then tried to switch the address order, to see if that solve the problems. But same as before. I'm not able to realize the problem.     - How to run multiple websites with different ASP version I have SBS2003 premium R2 It is running a sharepoint site that is installed "out of the box" that we have begun to work with. I am attempting to install a DotNetNuke website on the server also. The share point server is using ASP 1.x and the DNN site is using ASP2.0. Shouldn't I be able to run both of these at the same time? If Yes what am I missing because it seems to run 1 or the other based on the asp settings being set to 1 or 2. We would like to be able to navigate at any point even the same time from diffeernt browsers in house to : http://companyweb/default.aspx or http://DNNweb/default.aspx. Any Help?     - Hosting a website from my home I am currently using a web hosting company, which is hosting my SQL Server/ASP.Net website. I think it would be an interesting, challenging project for me to move the hosting to an extra machine I have at home, and host it here. Can anyone help me with this? I'd like to know about some online references or books, or whatever information anyone has. Poking around online, people say that it's better to stay with a hosting company due mostly to security concerns. The argument goes something like this: hosting is cheap enough and there are massive security threats everywhere that a hosting company is better suited to deal with. I can't really argue with those points, except to say that I want to do this because I'm interested in learning about networking, web technologies and the like. The best way for me to do that is by doing, so I'm willing to take the risks. Besides, the website(s) I'm interested in hosting is my own personal site, nothing confidential anyway, so if I muck it up, it's not really a problem. Whew, that said, I would appreciate any help I can get. I have Windows XP Pro. Is that appropriate, or will I need to get one of the Server OS's? Thanks for the help.     - Running IIS 5.1 on Windows XP Professional Hi. I have just installed all the parts of the IIS 5.1 on Windows XP Professional. When I installed I went onto the internet and typed http://localhost which when I normally do that it comes up with the home page to IIS which also provides some of the help files. However instead it asks me for a username and password. I have never had to do this before. Once I put the password in it then comes up saying that Internet Explorer cannot disply the page. I have tried uninstalling IIS and then reinstalling it but this has made no difference. I have Internet Explorer 7. I am presuming that IIS does work with IE 7 but I am not sure.     - webdav and iis I have a web server running Windows Server 2003 Standard x64, with IIS 6.0 loaded, and I can't seem to get WebDAV to work. These are the steps I've followed to try to get WebDAV to work: 1. Opened the IIS Manager, and made sure that the WebDAV extension in the Web Service Extensions was Allowed. 2. Created a new user account as a member of the Users group. 3. Created a new folder in my D:\ drive, called 123, and in the security, added the previously created user with Full Control. 4. Opened the IIS Manager, and created a virtual directory with Read/Write/Browse access pointing to the previously created directory. But if I try to access this directory using IE6 in Windows 2000 by clicking File -> Open, checking the Open as Web Folder, IE6 reports "Internet Explorer could not open <url> as a Web Folder. Would you like to see its default view instead?" Interestingly, if I try to use BitKinex to view the WebDAV directory, the log reports that IIS sends back 501 Not Implemented in response to the PROPFIND HTTP verb.     - Cannot view localhost .aspx files in IE I have been developing a web project in VS.NET 2003. Recently I have unable to display any .aspx pages from localhost. I receive an "Application Server Error". When I check the Event Viewer, under System, there is the warning: "The server failed to load application '/LM/W3SVC'. I have a directory on the D drive (not wwwroot) that I want to share on the web. The whole directory needs anonymous access with its own dedicated IP that I already have.     - Help! (Repeat Post) Possible to bypass security for Windows Media files? Hi All, I am posting this for the second time, and would really appreciate your help. I have some wmv files that are published on a publishing point (mms:// www.mydomain.com/123.wmv) using WMS. I also have an IIS server with HTML that points to some of these Windows Media Files. The HTML file "embeds" the video in the web page. Now, only logged in users are supposed to see these Windows Media files. This means that the user's session is checked and he is then allowed to view the embedded-video page if he is logged in. However, if one user logs in, he can still do a "view source" and see the actual URL of the Windows Media file - i.e. the publishing point. He can then go on to distibute the URL (mms://www.mydomain.com/123.wmv) and anyone can open Windows media player directly to view this file. How do I prevent this from happening? I wanted to know if there is a way to "hide" the actual URL of the video such that the HTML shows mms://www.mydomain.com/sessionidad234wet46y66. Would this be possible? If this is possible, how can I do it? If the above is not possible, is there another way to achieve the same result? i.e. What if I were to use http and NOT mms. Would it possible to have the URL as HTTP://www.mydomain.com/sessionidad234wet46y66. (to obfuscate the actual URL of the file and prevent direct access)? Would using windows media meta-files help? The issue, however, is that I dont want the files to be opened in windows media player. I want it embedded in the web page. Please help! Thanks in advance!     - Basic and Windows Integrated Info Ver 6.0 Using IIS in relationship to OWA users can send their network user ID and password via Basic Authentication. I am also using Entrust SSL Certificates for added security. Sharepoint has been introduced and we are allowing user to access their Calendars via an OWA link. Users also sign into the SharePoint space with their network user ID and password. Sharepoint is using Kerberos. The issue is that IIS is set for Basic and SharePoint requires Integrated Windows Authentication otherwise the user must sign in to the OWA client within SharePoint although they are signed into SharePoint with the same credentials. My question is: Can Basic and Integrated Windows authentication be selected in IIS and, if so, will it still work for OWA users not logged into SharePoint?     - Internet Explorer Randomly Stalling on forms We just moved web servers, from a Windows 2000 to Windows 2003 with IIS 6. Right now, when you submit a POST form on the website, it will behave randomly. Sometimes, it goes through, no problems. Other times, the forms seem to time out. This _only_ happens in IE. In Firefox, everything has been fine so far, which is quite perplexing. Forms that transmit greater amounts of data seem to have the error much more frequently. It's so bad that it's practically crippled our content management system. Checking the webserver's logs, it looks like a 400 error is generated. There are two main forms that this seems to be happening on. One writes to a Microsoft Access database, the other writes to an SQL database. It doesn't seem to be a permissions error, and the ODBC connections we have set up seem to be fine. I'm thinking it's an IIS issue. We had a previous issue with our content management system's pages returning the wrong SERVER_NAME variable, but I finally fixed that with an edit to the Metabase. I'm really running out of ideas on how to fix this. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I don't understand why this would happen randomly and only in Internet Explorer. I can't access any IIS websites on my Windows 2003/SP2 server from outside our LAN, except if it runs on port 80. What could cause this problem, which appears to be a server problem (rather than a firewall problem)? I want to run a HTTPS server at a nonstandard port, say https://myserver.mylan.com:9999/.     - Please help with load balancing inbound traffic to our website We have 2 different internet connections coming into our office. They both go into a load balancing device (radware linkproof branch). This has been configured and working for quite some time now and we enjoy load balancing for outbound traffic just fine. We also host a website internally here and I need to configure inbound redundancy for it. I have tested connectivity by going to http://1.1.1.1 and 2.2.2.2 where each is the public IP address given by both ISPs. The website pulls up both ways so the connectivitity is there. The problem is that our web host has the domain name of our site just go to http://1.1.1.1 so if I type in www.ourwebsite.com it goes to 1.1.1.1 what can be done to have this domain name use either failover or load balancing between the 2 IP addresses?     - Client loosing connection to IIS Hi there, I have a .Net 2.0, vb.net web-app, where the user enters an SQL-string, and the SQL is sent to an Oracle database. The result is then shown in a gridview. But, when the query runs a long time (or returns a large dataset) I loose connection to the IIS. I get a "server not found or DNS error". It seems that it happens when data is being sent to the browser. What happens is, the progressbar on the page slowly fills up, when its almost filled, the page goes blank (it's being re-freshed with the retrieved data) and after a while I get the error-message. I have been using task-manager to check cpu and mem-usage, and can see that the sql is sent to Oracle, the database works and selects the data, the IIS works, and then the client/browser works. If I do (pseudo) SQLstring="select * from giant_table" reader=oraclesql.execute SQLstring me.grid1.datasource=rd I get the error. But if I dont bind to a grid but just count the records SQLstring="select * from giant_table" reader=oraclesql.execute SQLstring while reader.read x=x+1 wend me.text1.text=x then it works. So it seems that the Oracle-end is ok, and that I don't loose the connection to the database. What happens, and what can I do? P.S This is on my local-test IIS "inside" visual studio .net. On the production server, I use authentication and allow an AD-group access to the web-app. When I navigate to the app, I am let in immediately. When someone who is NOT a member of the AD group navigates to it, the built-in log-on dialog prompting him for username/password is shown. Obviously the application in the subfolder (subdomain) is not jet configured as a separate application.
