We're running IIS 5.0 on Windows 2000 Server. This is a
pretty new machine - over 2GB of memory, and a 3.06 GHz
Xeon processor.
We're running into a very strange problem with IIS and IP
addresses. Currently we have 24 extra IP addresses
assigned to our NIC and everything works fine. If we
assign a 25th address to the NIC, when we then go to open
IIS we get the following error:
"Error connecting to [our machine name].
Not enough resources are available to complete this
operation. Do you wish to continue to attempt to connect
to it in the future?" When I click "Yes" IIS opens, but
it doesn't display any of our web sites - there's a line
at the top saying "Internet Information Services" with
nothing, not even our default web site, below it.
If we delete the 25th IP address from the NIC card, we can
open IIS with no problems or errors.
I've hunted and hunted for any information about limits on
how many IP's can be assigned to a NIC and on this error
message and can't find anything. We host web sites and
really need to be able to access IIS when we have more
than 24 IP addresses assigned to the NIC.
After I add the 25th IP address to the NIC the websites
associated with the IP addresses all still work, and I can
even ping that 25th address and get a response - I just
can't get into IIS to set up the associated web site.
Thanks in advance for any information anyone can give me
on how to resolve this issue!
