I am sure this has been asked a number of time so please bear with me.....I
am running Windows 2003 Std Srv with IIS6.

I have just installed my first Java applet on the webserver at
http://irc.thenoc.us/pjirc/pjirc.asp

I get the page up, but not the Java window. I believe it has something to
do with the configuration of my MIME types on the server, but I have not
been able to come up with what I am doing wrong.

Any help is appreciated.

Please first read the following blog entry:
http://blogs.msdn.com/david.wang/archive/2005/12/31/HOWTO_Basics_of_IIS6_Troubleshooting.aspx

I would start by checking %windir%\System32\LogFiles\W3SVC#\*.log

If it does not indicate an error accessing /pjirc/pjirc.asp, then your
problem is likely not with IIS or its configuration.

If it indicates an error, then please report that for further
assistance.

Without reporting concrete information (such as from a log file), we
are all just guessing at the problem and resolution. Help us help you.

No, it still has problems. I added some MIME types to the IIS virtual

server that someone told me I needed and it still does not work.

Well, I really did it this time. My WWW service went BOOOM!!!

It looks like I now have to reinstall the service completely. I removed the
MIME type information that I had put in and now all of my sites come up
service anavalable.

I would not be so hasty. I doubt MIME type caused this.

If you changed the global MIME type, it requires restarting IIS to take
effect. Per-website change is immediate.

I recommend reading and following the basic troubleshooting guide in
the URL I posted earlier. 503s can be fixed without reinstall, but
reinstall may not fix 503s.
