    - IIS 5.0 virtual Web sites do not start Good Evening, I have one server with four Web sites. There is default Web site and three virtual web sites. When IIS is restarted the default Web site and FTP site starts without any problem. However, the virtual Web sites do not start. Is there a way to set an auto start property for the virtual Web sites? I do not need the iis recycle tool we use it and when IIS is restarted the virtual web sites remain stopped.     - APS web page does not come up in the browser! I learning to develop server applications using the Visual.Net v. 7 environment. I have loaded the IIS version 5.1 on my computer running under XP professional. I have developed a small APS application with a few text boxes and labels. I have built the application correctly, I beleive. When I try to access the APS application on the localhost, the page is found, I get no errors, but the elements that I designed in Visual Studio.Net do not appear in the browser web page!     - 500 errors with no info We are seeing a bit of a strange issue currently; when reviewing the logs on a site, there are a lot of occurances of 'random' 500 errors without any information. Looks like this: 11/7/2003 18:03:51 10.0.0.1 - w3svc2 server1 10.0.0.5 80 - - - 500 0 0 0 421 These are dispersed throughout the log and follow regular and successful requests. The customer may experience a slight delay when one of these occurs, but never actually recieves an error on screen.     - The specified module could not be found. Hello, I have an ASP.NET application running here http://www.furniturefan.com We have clients who used to have their own web sites, but now they use one of or tempate sites instead. Some of these clients have redirected their URL to us lke the one below. http://www.websterfurniture.com This client was with us when we were using ColdFusion at this URL. http://www.furniturefan.com/StoreSites/index.cfm?StoreID=23543 I believe they are still redirecting to this URL I have a 404 handler in IIS which process request for .cfm pages and redirects to the approprate page in ASP.NET Failing to identify the intended target the handler redirects to the home page. I have 3 servers in the farm 2 of them have been rebuilt never having had ColdFusion installed the other had it installed then uninstalled this is the server having the problem. http://pine.furniturefan.com/StoreSites/index.cfm?StoreID=23543 It seems as if the 404 handler never gets called by IIS for any page with a .cfm extention. Ther are no mappings in IIS for .cfm and there are no references in the registry to ColdFusion at all.     - SMTPSVC Warning Hi, In the system log of our RAS and VPN servers (which also is a RAS server) we get SMTPSVC warnings ID 100. The description reads, "The server was unable to logon the Windows NT account 'webmaster' due to the following error: Logon failure: unknown user name or bad password. The data is the error code.". I read that the warning would appear when IIS tries to use the account specified, but the account doesn't exist in the Computer Management Console. Could this issue cause any problems?     - iis & script configuration It's possible to configure a virtual directory in IIS to allow an .asp script to run on pages with an .htm extension. It can be done in the 'virtual directories properties' dialog box, when configuring scripts & executables. Does this in any way compromise the security of the server, or any other virtual directory on the server? My problem is this: A web on the virtual directory was re-designed, and I need an external re-direct (for several pages) to provide search engines with a re-direct while retaining the previous pages rankings, without using a 'meta-redirect' or javascript. Changing the configuration of the virtual directory in IIS is the easiest way I can think of doing this, so I can use the following asp script to redirect the pages, which all had an .htm extension: <% Response.Status = "301 Moved Permanently" Response.addheader "Location", "http://www.newweblocation/newdirectory/newfile.shtm" Response.End %> This will accomplish the search engine friendly re-direct on the old pages with the .htm extension.     - + in url no longer converts to <space> I have just come across a problem with url's with "+" characters in them (which means they should be looking for a space in the filename on disc). It seems they are no longer converted to spaces by IIS and IIS returns a 404 error (no such file). I am sure this used to work correctly a couple of months ago. They are not being treated as "+" characters either. The + characters are infact generated by MS Content Management Server 2000.     - isapi filter cookie Hi, I am developing a pay-per-view web based application. I am writing an ISAPI filter that handles the security issues. When a user requests a page with embedded media file located in a particular directory the ISAPI checks whether the request came from a proper place by checking cookies. If verified the file is passed through. Otherwise the user is redirected to a signin page. This works well for html and image files but not for the media files. I noticed that when a request for a media file is processed the cookies are not accessible. I reckon that this is due to the fact that the request comes from the application (ie windows media player) rather than browser and therefore the cookies are not passed.     - Global IIS migration tool ? Hello, everyone I've recently "inherited" the admin of an IIS server that serves about 300 low traffic sites. I've been practicing contingency plans (there was none set up) in case something gets ugly on the HW side. My main concern is, how do I move (with relative ease) all the domains to a different server with different hw config? Aparently, the surest way to get a working backup restore is to restore the whole system, since the metabase is linked to the rest of the system. I tried the IIS migration wizard, but it's mostly a pain. Even if I restore just he settings and move the files manually from the backup medium, it takes forever and still mucks up some settings (and it doesn't even touches user permissions for FP extensions). I've been thinking of dumping the metabase to a text file (using the provided adsi scripts), doing whatever change is required on this file and re-importing it into the new server. The advante of this is, that if I want to perform a change on a large number of sites, I don't have to do it one by one. For example, if I need to change every site that is in the d:\web\whatever to e:\web\whatever, but not those on d:\website\whatever, a quick search and replace on a text editor might save my day. I tried using the metabase tool that microsoft provides, but unfortunately, it doesn't dump on clear text. My question is, is there a tool that might facilitate this? Either free or commercial? I realize that the best practice would be to set a cluster on high availability but since that would require a period of developement, I need to come up with a shorter term solution.     - form values lost when Windows Authentication turned off I have a page that needs to access the file system on another server to read the files in various directories. It works absolutely fine on our old web server running NT4.0/IIS4 as long as windows authentication is turned off and the Anonymous login account is changed to a special domain account that has read access to these directories. Copying the .asp file to our new NT5.0/IIS5 server exhibits really odd behaviour: a) when Windows Authentication is turned on, the page can't read the contents of the directories (it tries to use the logged in user's account, which won't work). The code correctly detects and reports this error condition (the FileSystemObject's GetFolder method returns an error code). b) when Windows Authentication is turned off, the page can access the directories, but it receives an empty request.form collection (request.form.count) is empty. If I change the form to method="GET" instead of method="POST" everything works fine. But I need to POST this information. The logs show only a single POST request for the page (so it isn't being redirected or re-requested to sort out log in information). Why does this work on IIS4 and not IIS5?     - URL specification for Custom Error I have set up a Custom 500;100 error on my department's server. It wasn't working properly - and a helpful MSDN newsgroup member advised me to specify the custom page as a URL instead of as a file. The tech support guys and I keep getting an error when we try to enter the URL.     - IWAM and IUSR accounts do not match hostname I created a Win2K image using Symantec Ghost 7.5 and ran ghostwalker as well as Microsoft Win2k sysprep but my default IIS accounts still reflect the host name of the image and not the new hostname. I have tried manually changing them but then I run into permission issues. Can anyone tell me how I can these accounts to be regenerated to reflect the actual hostname of the server.     - IIS Windows Integrated Authentication Question I have a Windows 2003 server as a Member Server, not a Domain Controller. I have integrated authentication checked in IIS. This seems to work from the clients. However, if the webpage has a datasource in its asp page, then I get an error that says the user does not have permission to get to the object that the page is trying to get to (the web page itself is allowed). Doing the same thing from a domain cotroller (from the client again) yields the data. The IUSR account is not being used on any of them; it is all purerly supposed to run on integrated authentication. Does the fact that my 2003 server is not a domain controller have anything to do with it? It seems to be. The white papers from Microsoft say that 2003 member servers can be used for web servers.     - IISState log analyse, iis6 Hi All, I have a problem with a server that contains one site. I won't bore you with al the symptomps, but have an IISState log attached. Can anyone help me with analysing this one? Note: - I have used the -SC switch (softcrash). - If i don't use the softcrash switch, the site can run for hours before it stops responding. It's a problem to get a trace at that point but i will try bij letting iis isolating the worker process. So this log is from when the site seemingly was in a healthy state, but IISState thought otherwise. It works just fine for all users, but some Windows XP-users have experienced this: they are prompted for username and password when they leave the intranet and are "surfing" on the Internet. We're using a proxy. We also have Windows 2000-users and they never get this problem. Example: The user starts the Intranet it works fine, now the user enters for example www.google.com: now the user is prompted for username and password. Any ideas? As normal i can use the url http://localhost/ or http://127.0.0.1/ to get browser access to execute the ASP pages that reside there. I am running an ASP script on my managed server that needs to locally run another ASP page on that same server and return some data. The MSXML2.ServerXMLHTTP object requires any input to be preceded with http:// so i cannot use simple "./scripts/script.asp". The hosting company i use is telling me that it is impossible for my script running on SERVER to access another script running on SERVER using http://something. Is it possible to configure more than 1 web site on Windows 2000 Server running IIS so that all web sites can be accessed using http://localhost or something similar? I have index server configured correctly, the sites are checked to index themselves, they seem to be indexing no problem, catalogs are all there.     - Transfering IIS To A Different System Need to transfer webhosting to a different server. The problem is that the C: on the new server isn't big enough to hold the Inetpub folder. So I put it on the D: instead. Then installed the IIS service and it created a new Inetpub folder on the C:. I did a backup from the IIS MMC console on the old server, then tried to do a restore on the new one. The restore errored out, saying that the configuration store could not be restored. Possible causes being that the store was corrupt, or the MTA packages were removed. Attempting to access anything in the IIS MMC console then resulted in "Invalid Signiture" errors. I unintalled IIS and reinstalled. Tried the restore again, exact same result. I'm assuming that this error is becasue the Inetpub directory is not in the same location as on the server that the backup image was created on. I don't see any way in the IIS management console to direct the server to look to a different path to the Inetpub folder. I was thinking that perhaps I could keep the wwwroot and ftproot subfolders on the D: where there is space for them, and move the rest of the Inetpub folder to the default location on the C:.     - Server Application Error after IIS is installed Hi, I have a Windows 2000 Pro machine on SP3. I installed IIS WWW server and FTP server, after installation I typed http://localhost into browser and got: Server Application Error The server has encountered an error while loading an application during the processing of your request. Please refer to the event log for more detail information. Please contact the server administrator for assistance. I am positive this is not a permission issue, I copy some jpg and html files into wwwroot folder and they showed up in browser without problems, problems seem to be limited to asp files only. In IIS admin tools, "Home Directory" tab, "Execute Permissions" is set to "Script Only", I tried to use different settings, no go either. Any Ideas?     - IIS not serving ASP.Net pages Hello, I've been experiencing issues with being able to run ASP.Net pages in one server. It has no issues serving regular ASP files, but when dealing with any .Net web content it freezes and shows an empty page. This happens with ASPX, ASMX, and any other type of .Net page. I know the pages work because they were compiled and run on a build machine first. But when moving them to the webserver they all cease to function. I've uninstalled and re-installed the .Net Framework (using add/remove programs, then downloading the redistributable framework and installing it). I've tried re-installing the aspnet using aspnet_iis.exe -ua then aspnet_iis.exe -i. To no avail.     - Redirecting to an application We currently have a company website in IIS 5.0 called "Company Portal" which is redirecting to an application called "Portal". Under Home Directory, I have the redirect going to /Portal. Also, the option "A client will be sent to...A directory below this one." is selected. This all works fine. The problem is when we migrate the site to IIS 6.0, none of the directories, files and applications under the website on the console appear. The only way for me to see them is to select 'A directory located on this computer' and enter the physical path to the root of the site.     - Reading POST data from an ISAPI filter Hi all. Here's a fairly simple question: Does anybody know of a way to get the POST Data from a request in an ISAPI Filter without using SF_NOTIFY_READ_RAW_DATA? I'm trying to port an existing filter to IIS 6.0 and it doesn't support SF_NOTIFY_READ_RAW_DATA unless you go into IIS 5.0 compatibility mode, which I'd rather not do. So, since all I need is the POST data, is there another way to get it? The reason I want this in a filter instead of an extension is that it could run for any URL on the site, and sometimes, it redirects users, in which case, we need to hang on to the POST data somehow so it's not lost with the 302.
