IIS Icon

Hi According to the installation instructions for IIS in Windows XP pro I
should have an icon in the task bar. I don't. How do I get one?


1.. Make sure your Web server is running - The installation program has
added a new icon on your task bar (this is the IIS symbol). Click on the
icon and press the Start button in the window that appears.
2.. Open your browser and type in "http://localhost/MyWeb/test1.asp", to
view your first ASP page

IIS does not have any icons in the tray. Please read the instructions again
and make sure it's IIS you're installing (as far as I know there are no
installation instructions for IIS). Could you post a link to the page that
says that?

That is not true, IIS on XP Pro doesn't have an icon in Taskbar.

And it does in fact say that you should have an Icon in XP (scroll to the

I am a student at college and we have to design and configure a web site
using ASP and IIS so I have to install it at home. Due to the way that the
college computers and network are set up there are no computers with IIS
installed that are available to us students. So it is a case of the blind
tutor leading the blind student. If the college cannot get IIS installed and
working on the college computers we will still pass our course if we supply
printouts of our code.

What a way to run an education system!

And I have just had one of these stupid messenger windows pop up. And I
thought I had got rid of them. Oh well! back to the drawing board.

You don't, unless you upgraded a Win98 system with PWS.

Do this by opening the IIS MMC under Administrative Tools. Find your
website (normally "default") and look to see if it's started.

Try just http://localhost/ for the default page.

Start | Settings | Control Panel | Administrative Tools | Personal Web =
Manager | Properties | Show Tray Icon

Don't think there is something similar in Windows 2000 Server. Never =
noticed it.

You installed PWS on Windows 2000? It comes with IIS, which does not have an
icon.

And yes, the original article states that there should be an IIS icon under
Windows XP Pro, obviously a victim of too much copying and pasting without
enough thinking about it...
