    - deploying ASP.NET in IIS 5 Okay, I went into dos, and in the v1.1.4322, entered aspnet_regiis and then realized I forgot the parameter of - c, so I did aspnet-regiis -c and it said: btw, the -c parameter is this Install the client side scripts for this version to the aspnet_client subdirectory of each IIS site directory. C:\WINNT\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v1.1.4322>aspnet_regiis -c Start copying the ASP.NET client side script files for this version (1.1.4322.0). Finished copying the ASP.NET client side script files for this version (1.1.4322.0). I restarted all services and then server has since been rebooted and my aspx pages are still not working. Would anyone be able to assist me in deploying asp.net with windows 2000 server?     - POST Problem I have seen references to this in the archive but no solution. I have a site that needs to know the NT User but also needs to use Annonymous access. To do this I have created a entry site which uses Integrated Security. On this single page site I grab the user name and redirect to the annonymous site. Unfortunately I now cannot use the post method on any of the other ASP pages. I have seen references that say this is caused by having virtual directories with different security modes. Is there a way around this? I really do not want to have to use the GET method everywhere. Has anyone seen/fixed/got around this issue?     - a few questions on IIS As I understand it, Windows 2000 and IIS supports up to 10 different web sites. I assume that these ten are in the same category, and reside on a par with the famous "Default Web Site". Is that correct? How many web sites can Win XP & IIS 5.1 have? How do you create them? Is this the same as creating a "virtual directory" in Win XP? (I am beginning to get the sense I am going to need Win 2003 Server.) Does "Default Web Site | Properties | Web Site Identification | Advanced | Multiple Identities for this Web Site" mean that many names point to a single site (big deal) or is it, as some of the how-to papers seem to imply, a way to maintain multiple sites under one IP, all of which are available to an Internet browser? (I can't get it to have any sort of positive effect yet, so please pardon the question.) Is this the same as 'host headers'? If not, what are they for? (I'm defining 'Multiple Web Sites' as site #1 www.aaa.com about, say, cars; site #2 www.bbb.com, about food; and, site #3 www.ccc.com about dating. All three would be registered domains, and reside on a single machine.) Lastly, just so testing doesn't drive me nuts: Should I be able to see the web site, from any PC on the LAN, including the Web Server, by typing the web URL, or should I expect to see it via the web URL only from OFF my local LAN?     - Property Sheets not opening in ISM Hello all, got a problem here that just surfaced and I cannot figure out what's going on... When I access the Internet Service Manager (ISM) via a browser, I can log into it and see the basic administration interface. I can see all my websites and I can start, stop and pause them. However I cannot access their property pages at all. Nor can I access the master property pages. Once I select a site, it highlights, I click the "properties" link on the left, it says "Loading" down at the bottom and the activity indicator in the browser status bar looks like its loading a page. Then the "Loading" text dissapears and that's that, no property sheet, nothing. This worked fine on the previous build of my W2K Server but after our last build it does not. The only major changes (software wise) was the updated to Win2K SP4. I have also replicated this behavior on my local development/testing server. Any ideas? I need to be able to access these property sheets remotely as our production server is several miles away and requires a appointment scheduled in advance to even gain access to it for management/maint.     - Redirect from PHP pages to ASP, but old PHP pages and site are no longer there Good Morning, I am in need of some help regarding re-directs. We have just replaced our old Webiste that was manily PHP with a new ASP.NET website. My question is, how do I redirect all of the old http:www.domain.com/filename.php?location=xx (where xx is a number) to a new location? Sine these are the same domain name and same server, I cannot do a redirect from an existing server to the new one. I have treid putting the entire old URL in as a host header, but that did not work.     - Parent Paths Security Risk? I've run the Microsoft Baseline Security Analyzer http://www.microsoft.com/technet/security/tools/Tools/MBSAhome.asp Everything seems to be in order except for one nagging little thing... Parent Paths. Does anyone have any solid information regarding this severe security risk? http://support.microsoft.com:80/support/kb/articles/Q184/7/17.ASP&NoWebContent=1 All I know is that MS says to disable it however, I need it for our web sites to work. We have many websites using 'Parent Paths' for our include files. Such as...  However, if we removed 'Parent Paths' we would have to use virtual includes  Which would entail hard coding to much into our files to make it usefully portable for our clients. As well as forcing the clients along URLs that they may or may not want to see. I've also a problem in IIS where if I set the product as a website, I also have to create the virtual directory just so the includes work. What do others do? Any guidance is appreciated.     - MS Internet Services Manager Question... Howdy all, we're running IIS 5.0 on Windows 2000 Server and recently we had to to a rebuild of our server. Before the rebuild I was able to access the IIS management console via a web browser and perform all the normal functions available for the multiple sites we have hosted on our server. After the rebuild I can get into the services manager, start and stop the individual websites, etc. The problem is that when I select a site and then click on properties, the interface comes up saying "Loading" down at the bottom and then the "Loading" text dissapears and nothing else happens!     - frozen IIS6 (win2003srvr) - no error messages Hi All, we have a little web-site written in asp showing a MS Access database, and we just moved it from II5 (win2000 server) to II6 (win2003server). Windows 2003 server is a clean new installation on a totally new machine, and I was testing the site on it before it went in production. Everything went just fine (apart from that some pictures had "%" in their names, and 2003 couldn't show them, but then I changed the names and now it works fine) Friday night I moved the site from 2000 to 2003 server, and I've been checking the site during the weekend - there were no problems. But today (monday) it happend that all of the sudden the web-site couldn't be shown - now it happened 2 times, thats why I am writing this post, since it seems that that is a problem that will be coming up once in a while. When one tries to access the site, everything looks like it should, but the site just doesn't come up, and after a while IE shows this error (coused by time-out). The connection to the server works fine, and when I open IIS manager, all sites seems to be working. I can even start and stop the web-sites within IIS manager, and there are no problems, everything looks fine. But starting and stopping the web site didn't help - problem vanished first when I stopped the whole IIS service, and started it again. The first sign of a problem showed up during the service shutdown - it took over a minute to shut the service down, and Event viewer come up with at message that goes something like " ...there was a timeout trying to stop the service....". But strange thing is that when this problem happens, there is no errors on the server: not even Event viewer shows any problems. What could it be?     - Compiling and caching of aspx pages Hi group, The first visit to a newly created aspx page is always slow since it has to be compiled once. Sequential visits are much faster. We've tested our .NET webapp on two different machines : (a) Windows 2000 / IIS5 and (b) Windows 2003 / IIS6. During this testing, we noticed that Windows 2003 seems to remove the compiled pages when it's not accessed recently (I think about 30 minutes). Windows 2000 otoh seems to keep the compiled pages (accessing a file today that was compiled yesterday still shows up immediatly). Is there a way to make W2003 behave like W2000?     - fp2002 extensions on 2003 I have setup a new Server 2003 system w/IIS6. I was unable to migrate my websites from my old NT4.0 / IIS system (which had fp2002 extensions on it). So I copied the files to my new system, configured the websites, pointed to the newly copied subfolders and then 'Configure(ed) Server Extensions 2002' (from the Tasks menu). After I type in the admin password, an html screen says 'Configuring fp extensions (or something like that) - there is no termination message -thats it. Upon checking the server extensions tab in the web it claims that an old version of extensions is installed and to upgrade from the tasks menu - I do that and get the same thing- no termination message and it still thinks it needs upgrading. Hello, i recently installed IIS 5 (under winXP pro), while hosting my site i keep getting this annoying message saying too many users are connected. i followed the link and it took me to page telling me to change my max connection to unlimited. I went to this place, but from some reason i dont have this option! all i have there is "Connection time out" and "keep connection alive" nothing else, what do i do ?? i tried removing IIS and reinstalling it! nothing helped.. am i missing a network protocol or something i need to see this option ??     - NLB and ISAPI/ASP sessions We have some systems using ASP/ISAPI in one IIS 4 server. We are moving to Windows 2000 (or 2003) to use NLB but we wanted to know what happens with client ASP/ISAPI sessions with this feature. I mean: User X starts a session in Server "A" but then NLB points him to Server "B". The latter doesnt know the user has already started a session.     - WWW publishing service will not start after W2K SP4 installation After installing SP4 on a W2k machine the WWW publishing service and SMTP service will not start automatically on a reboot. I can start these services manually. Both of these service are running under the local system account. The first Event message is "The IIS Admin Service failed to start due to the following error: The executable program that this service is configured to run in does not implement the service." The IIS Admin Service actually does start despite the message. WWW service does not start with the following message: "The World Wide Web Publishing Service depends on the IIS Admin Service service which failed to start because of the following error: The executable program that this service is configured to run in does not implement the service.     - installation problem with IIs and ftp Does anyone have suggestions for this situation: I just installed XP pro and as an added component I installed IIs and with that I was particularly interested in the FTP server you get with it. It looks like the datastructure came across , I have a directory Inetpub and many subdirectories and scripts within them, but I didn't get the mmc and the service is not listed in the services.     - IIS security & installation. Hi there, I've just installed IIS 5.1 on my computer so I can code my own ASP. I've installed the latest security patch just to be safe. However, whenever I browse to my local IP address (http://<whatever>>), I get a windows authentication dialog which I did not set up (maybe its default). I tried my XP username & password, but this didn't work. If I browse to "http://localhost", it lets me in fine. What am I doing wrong?     - Can't access web site anonymously I've been having trouble with accessing my web site. I've set it to allow anonymous connections and to use IUSR_BUTTERCUP (the name of this computer is "buttercup") as the user. I've set the password for this user and have checked the box to allow IIS to control the password. However, whenever I try to access the site (either remotely, or with 127.0.0.1, I am prompted with a login box asking for user name, password, and domain. IUSR_BUTTERCUP is in there by default, along with the password, and a blank domain. I am not using a domain on our LAN. I've tried leaving it blank, entering the workgroup name, entering the computer name, and entering my ISP's domain name. No matter what I enter, I get an HTTP 401.1 error. I've also tried logging on as other users on our network. Nothing works. However, I CAN get into the FTP Site (the login box doesn't ask for a domain; I think that's the problem). HTTP://localhost works too. I've designated my My Documents folder as the home directory. I've been able to get into it before, but something changed. I wish I could tell you WHEN it started doing this, or what changes I might have made to network settings to cause this, but unfortunately I can't remember. The logging stopping may or may not be an issue with IIS. However when logging does stop IIS will not continue logging again until the log create for that time period is removed.     - Configuring SMTP Virtual Server in WinXP Can anyone tell me how I would setup my SMTP Virtual Server to route all mail passed to it, through to my ISP's mail server. I've tried changing settings in the Advanced screen of the Delivery tab in the properties for the Virtual Server, but it only places the mail in the inetpub\mailroot\Queue folder and never delivers it.     - How to kill missing webs Hi all, I set up several web projects following the VB.NET MOC guidelines, and when I'd finished with them, deleted them in what I thought was the correct way. Obviously not, because now VB.Net complains that they're not there. I uninstalled VB.Net, the .Net Framework AND IIS, then reinstalled the lot. But that didn't help. Can anyone tell me please how I can completely kill off any reference to the webs that I incorrectly deleted.     - Front Page extension HANG. Do not work Hi, I have a WIN2K server with Service Pack 4 installed. All the security updates also installed. I installed Front Page Extensions 2002 on the server, then extended the FP extensions support to a web server (through IIS). Then when I try to go to the administration site for that virtual web server, FP extensions hang. It never takes me to the Adminisntration page for the web server. So I cannot setup anything. The error I get from Internet Explorer is: "DNS error or Server not found". But I can access the website from any machine using Internet Explorer. The website works. The FP extensions stuff is what does not work. Does anynone know of any combination issues with, Win2k Server, Service Pack 4, Internet Explore 6, and FP extensions 2002?     - using iis5 what is the function of aspnet_client I am starting on asp.net - I run my applications with no problem on the home server however when I attempt to run them on the remote server (hosting service) I end up with a problem - basically the server sends back a mesasage to change the web.config customer error mode to off. This I do and I get the same response. The server states that asp.net is configured. I also notice that a virtual directory called aspnet_client is setup on the home server and the remote server - this appears to be automatic what is the function of this folder. I made a simple aspx page with just a label and button no code at all and this gives the same response on the remote server.     - Error when installing personal web server I am trying to install personal web server from a Win 98 CD. However, part way through the installation, I received a critical error message stating the following: Sysocmgr Invalid page fault in module Kernel32.dll @ 0167:bff7a300.     - IIS 6 Hosting 150+ sites Hi, We are just upgrading from IIS5 to IIS6 and are having problems with running about 150 sites on the same ip using host headers. We are installing from a fresh win2k3, and are setting up the sites by hand. Every time you restart the server aprox 10 sites do not start and have the error message: "the process cannot access the file becuase it is being used by another process" Next to the stopped site in IIS. If you then restart IIS they will all start fine. I have read a newsgroup post from a microsoft engineer who suggested changing the MaxEndPoints value in ccs/services/http/paramerter. I have changed this values from 50 to 500 with no change. Ive also tried putting the sites into IIS5 compatability mode, and spillting the sites into two application pools. Neither worked. Any ideas?     - IIS and WinXP Pro installation problems I installed IIS to my WinXP Pro computer, and restarted it. When it was restarting, I did not see the usual shutdown screen, but the popup version one (as if I had switched to classic mode instead of the xp default). Anyway, I thought nothing of it and waited for it to restart. It went through POST fine, and got to the Windows splash screen, but when the welcome screen was supposed to show up, the screen went black and would not respond for about 10-20 seconds upon which it would restart the computer. This continued in an endless loop no matter what I tried (starting in safe mode, safe mode with networking, etc.) So, I decided to format and install from an image I had taken prior to installing IIS. With the system up and working properly again, I tried installing IIS with the minimum options I needed (Common Files, IIS snap-in, and WWW server). This resulted in the same problem. Any suggestions? BTW...I have Norton Systemworks 2003 Pro, and since I heard Norton Antivirus sometimes causes problems when installing software, I disabled it before performing these steps. I'm having problems with the Administration web site in IIS 5.0. The
admin site is set up to accept integrated authentication only. When it
is accessed, the username/password/domain prompt appears. It accepts
empty values and the admin site is then usable. The prompt however
appears repeatedly (every time I click a link within the site). Can
anyone shed any light on how this can be prevented please.

This can mean that the session state is not accepted by
your server (i doubt so), or your client. Check your IE
cookies configuration.
Someting else, your server accepts empty fields for USR
and PWD ?????
