 - MS Support Article n286358 -SMTPMD.EXE AND Missing dot in text body Hi, I am trying the resolve an outstanding problem with our mail application. The following support article http://support.microsoft.com/?id=286358 specifically describes the issue and explains how to fix it. The problem is that I can't seem to use any of the 2 suggested resolutions. 1- I cannot find SMTPMD.EXE anywhere. 2- I used the IIS metabase editor to try to find the specified key (DisablePickupDotStuff) but it doesn't seem to exist in the designated location. This problem is not only affecting windows 2000 servers ( sp4 ) but also our windows 2003 Machines. Is there something I am missing ? Thank you.  - Services failing to start. I have a web server that has been running perfectly fine for over 2 years now. This is on a Win2000 server sp3. However, this morning IIS, FTP, SMTP, Task Scheduler have all stopped and refuse to start. The message logged in the System Event Log is: The World Wide Web Publishing Service service terminated with the following error: Not enough storage is available to complete this operation.  - IIS help Hi, I'm totally new to IIS and just installed it and the asp and sdk framework in order to learn how to create dynamic websites. But once I join this server to an domain. I get and error message "HTTP error 401.1 - Unauthorized: Logon Failed Internet Information Services. What is the problem? I had try going into the Directory Security, Authentication and access control, Authentication Methods, The Enable anonymous access is tick then set the Integrated Windows authentication to tick. an box ask for username and password is display if I enter an valid user it let the page display.  - asp does not work on IIS Hi, This has me stumped. I'm running IIS 5 on Windows 2000, SP 4. I haven't used IIS lately, when I tried it today wherever I encountered an ASP file I received a HTTP 500 error (in IE, in Firefox it told me that the Requested Resource was in use). I've stopped all running processes I could see as having any possible effect in the task manager. I thought I might have a corrupted scripting runtime so I reinstalled the Microsoft Scripting runtime. No help. I've stopped and restarted, disconnected and connected the server several times. I've stopped and restarted the computer. The server serves html fine. It serves aspx fine (I have .Net 2.0 installed). I suppose I could try to use variou other tools to check the http response - curl etc. - but I figure the most info I'll get is http 500. I wonder if it could be a corrupted metabase? How likely is that if html and aspx works? Not very I would assume. I tend to use text editors to do development but I have both Visual Studio 8 and 6 installed, does either of those have any good tools for troubleshooting IIS?  - COM+ Failures I'm running a web server (windows server 2k3 IIS, not active directory) and once or twice a week I will get COM+ failures. Once these failures begin, I see error events logged rapidly until the server fails and has to be restarted. I would like to know what I should look at in order to address this issue. The web server is a little oversubscribed for its hardware spec, and I am in the process of moving websites off of this server to 2 new servers, although this process is somewhat slow as I have to balance this migration with seamlessness to the customer. I try to keep the server as quiet as possible, with application pool restarts wherever needed to bring down the commit charge, and iis restarts "out of hours" (whatever that means in a www environment!)  - Problems with SSL certificate I just purchased and installed a SSL certificate from Thawte (Windows Server 2003, IIS 6.0) with no problems. The certificate has been installed properly and permissions have been assigned to the folder that needs to use the certificate. The problem is, when I test the pages on the development server using an absolute path with HTTPS://......, the pages load fine. From outside the development box, the pages will not load.  - Question on need to change port 80 if I create another site in IIS Can you clarify whether the two scenarios below are supported ? 1) Imagine I have "Default Website", Port 80. I assign this to IP = 1.1.1.1 Then I create a "New Site". I assign such site to IP = 1.1.1.2. Can I keep using this as Port 80 to both sites, since they are assigned to different IPs ? Is this supported and functional ? I am able to see this working and I am wondering if it is alright. 2) Imagine I have "Default Website", Port 80, Using "All Unassigned IP" Then I create a "New Site", also using Port 80, "All Unassigned IP".  - Protecting the SubSite from Accessing Directly Hi there We have 2 web servers containing 2 public web sites (ei called MainSite and SubSite). The MainSite is hosted with Non=Windows environment and while the SubSite is hosted with IIS 6 = Windows 2003 potentially. Now in the MainSite there will be a hyperlink to SubSite so the web user can browse the subsite. So my question how do I restrict on the SubSite that it can only see the SubSite if the web user only came from MainSite? Cause we don't want web user to browse directly to SubSite ... the reason is there is an authentication on the MainSite. Is there anyway that we can achieve this? I'm appreciated your comment.  - Change a http request header I have a .NET web app which is built to take into account the Accept-language HTTP header and display the user interface for that language. For various reasons, I want all users to access only the English interface so I need to make the application think it always receives "Accept-language: en;1" I cannot modify the application so I want to eliminate or change that HTTP header from ALL requests going to that app (to all the .aspx pages in that app). Now i want to use a subdomain for another server on my LAN, on which i want to run some websites which i dont want to run on iis (security reasons; iis' is too high:P) my main iis server is running on 200.200.200.251 and my 2nd server is running on 200.200.200.205. i want iis to mirror 200.200.200.251 when for example test.hfa-soft.com is requested. the problem is, my router does only do portmapping, it doesnt look for hostnames. i hope you understand my need an can help me.  - Why this error "400-Bad request" when trying to hit the IP address Interesting. I need to publish a Sharepoint site set to "anonymous" access. Then I go to the respective server. In IIS Management console, I assign a specific IP address to such site (that means I have total of two IP addresses assigned to the respective NIC). Then I set the site to anonymous access. I set a "host header"=extmysite, port=80, IP=1.1.1.1 Then from a client in the corporate network, if I do: http://extmysite.mydomain.com it works perfectly and I get to the site. However, if I do: http://1.1.1.1 If fails "400-bad request". Message is shown below. Any idea why it is failing if I try to hit the IP address ??  - advanced digest I have two servers, both are serv 2003 ent. one is a dc and the other is a member I would like to use advanced digest to authenticate users accross the web. But when i try to login using it, the login prompt comes right back. I have tired it on a PC that is a member of the domain and one that is not. I am have tried storing the password using reverse and non reverse. I would think i should check to make sure its using advanced digest, but i am unsure how, and i would also take any other thoughts.  - Virtual Web and FtP Want to give personal webspace under root website to web customers (non-domain). So, created virtual webs under the root and now need to setup FTP. I thought I would resrict users to the folder that is assigned to them but doesn't allow for login. If I set the ftp for anyone then they can see and still paste pages in the other users directories.  - Change order of fields in IIS W3C Extended Log Hi, Just upgraded from 2000/IIS 5 to 2003/IIS 6. I am frustrated that with the W3C Extended logs, the order of the fields has changed. I grew accustomed to being able to quickly scan through client IP addresses in the old log files, but that is not nearly as easy now that the client IP appears near the end of the line. I searched and searched, and could not find any way of customizing the order of fields in the log file. Please tell me there is a way to do this!  - IIS 6.0 WebDAV Why is the IIS 6.0 WebDav slow compared to Apache's - on server side? Also if the client used in KDE on Linux, it is faster than XPs webdav client - this is opening it even in IIS 6.0.  - Error : 500.13 - server too busy on IIS 4 Hye, (sorry for my english) I have a IIS 4 on a NT4 server (Bi-Proc PIII 700 - 512MB). We use lots of asp, an after a lot of connections the internet user receive a 500.13 error message. The current config of the IIS is 50 script motor with a filequeue of 2000 pages. The asp use 3 personnal activeX : - reqBDB.dll : build with VB6 SP5 - cryptage.dll : build with vb6 SP5 - rExecASP2.dll : build with vc++ (pack number ???) I've make the 2 first dll and I've use the correct compiler option ("keep in memory" and "stand alone run").  - Problems getting a CGI app working Hi all, I am migrating an custom built application from a Win2k server to a Win2k3 server. The application was built by developers 5 years ago and they are not in business anymore. The original application is here: http://www.djpages.com/index.htm and is a collection of .exe's that are called by webpages. The exe's return data to the page using html templates. I have moved a copy of the SQL database over, and setup everything as it was before. I have experience of getting this working as the original server went tits up and I had to reinstall it from scratch. I got that working, so thought I could get this working. The new server: http://81.201.139.223/index.htm is suffering from the following error when you either try to signup or login: CGI Error The specified CGI application misbehaved by not returning a complete set of HTTP headers. I have created a Web Service Extension for all of the exe's. The only difference that I can see is the CGI folder is D:/inetpub/cgi/ whereas before it was C:/DMC/cgi/ Could this be the issue?  - Error in my web page with IIS 6 Hi, I've got a error with my web page on IIS 6 and windows 2003 server sp2 with a sql 2000 DB. With the same web application, on IIS 5 and windows 2000, everything works fine. But on the new version, this is my message : Timeout expired. The timeout elapsed prior to obtaining a conneciton from the pool.  - kerberos errors The saga continues After checking in triplicate everything again..... and then finding out you can enable kerberos event logging.... I seem to have a couple of possible issues. 1. this kerberos error appears on my IIS box KDC_ERR_S_PRINCIPAL_UNKNOWN this would seem to imply the spn is incorrect for the SQL server, which using ADSI for my account domain\svc_sql contains MSSQLSvc\ComputerName.domain.co.uk:1433 and for the computer account contains MSSQLSvc\ComputerName.domain.co.uk:1433 Are these wrong? duplicated?  - COM+ Configuration Setting Hello, We're running IIS6 (fully patched). In Component Services, I was just wondering what it means if you UNCHECK 'Enforce access checks for this application'. The reason I'm asking is because a third party software company built a COM+ application for us which crashes the default application pool if we leave that option checked. It also logs the following in the System Log: Event Type: Warning Event Source: W3SVC Event Category: None Event ID: 1009 Date: 10/27/2005 Time: 9:10:33 PM User: N/A Computer: TECSYS Description: A process serving application pool 'DefaultAppPool' terminated unexpectedly. The process id was '2408'. The process exit code was '0xc0000005'. For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp. When the Application Pool 'crashes' we also get a 'Service Unavailable' error message when we try to access the site thru a web browser. If we uncheck the option above, the COM+ application loads perfectly. I'm more concerned, from a security stand point, what disabling that option means. Any thoughts, etc are greatly appreciated. For 3rd party ActiveX objects, I get Microsoft VBScript runtime (0x800A01AD) ActiveX component can't create object: 'Object.ProgID' (that's a hypothetical progid, thanks). When I disable anonymous access on the Web site in IIS, it works! When enabled, it doesn't. I've given IUSR_<machinename> all kinds of permissions (on the file, folder, etc.) and even added it to the Admin group (and Power Users group). Still no go.  - Problem with 2 way ssl I am trying to set up 2 way ssl with iis 6. I install the server cert, turn on ssl and click "require a client certificate." Well, when I hit a web site on the server from a browser, the server pushes it's cert to the client, but does not ask the client to send one.  - IIS 5.0 Stops Responding to ASP requests Boy am I lost. I have been reading through here for days looking for something that might help. While I have found lots of good things that I have checked I cant seem to come to the source of the problem. Then I thought maybe I am asking the wrong questions. It took me awhile to understand what to log using Debug Diags. The biggest log generator seems to be the dllhost.exe. It is always showing out of process pooled. I updated MDAC to 2.8, registered some unregistered dll's, and updated some other dll's used by the E-business software. Same nothing seems to change. In fact I think the ASP pages have stopped 5 times since. So I am obviously on the wrong path. When this happens all other web responses still continue. FTP and HTML requests included. I just need a server, separate from my domain and on my DMZ of the firewall, to be accessed by the public and only one or two web designers using Frontpage 2003. I don't think we will use Exchange except for *maybe* creating distribution groups to forward for links on the website, but we will probably just use html forms and group the addresses there or something instead.  - server slows down considerably with time We have an ASP application which connects to an SQL 2k database which is hosted on an IIS server (dual XEON with 4GB RAM). We have about 150 to 200 users connecting to that server and works on teh database through the ASP application. Our problem is that after a few hours the web pages gets so slow and the data fetching from the database gets so slow for the users that we are having to restart the server to fix the problem. I would like to know why it is happening and what we can do to fix this problem. We have about 60 datasets being accessed through that ASP application and each dataset belongs to different clients and so the employees work on any one of them at different times.  - Digest or Integrated Authentication help Situation: Domain controller testDC on a 2003 ent box Member server ms01 on a 2003 ent box with IIS 6.0, file server Domain test I have a site setup that needs to use some sort of authentication(prefer Digest) the site severs as an intranet and internet site for a command center. Right now users on the domain test have now problem as i have set the site up under IE intranet settings via GPO. The problem i have is users that are connection via VPN Tunnel or web where the computer is not part of the domain. They can get to the site and see the html but when they try to view a doc from a hyperlink they get page can not be found. Right now this is setup with Integrated Authentication, becosue i am unable to login using Digest authentication. Can someone help? let me know if you need more details.  - PDF files linked on web site show blank page Hello, We have an issue with PDF files (Created with Acrobat 7.0) linked in our web site showing up as a blank file when selected. The page can be refreshed and the PDF shows correctly. This problem can be reproduced on the client computer by deleting the temp internet files then selecting the linked PDF page. I have tried to convert the page in a reader 3.0 format, and make the link open in a new window, both idea's not fixing the issue. Please help! Thank you in advance for input on this issue.  - IIS6 Not Logging I am running Windows 2003 Server Standard Edition with all service packs and hotfixes applied. I have IIS6 running on the box and have setup several websites to run on the server (multihomed). In Internet Service Manager, drilling into the properties of any given website on the server: "Home Directory" tab, Log Visits is checked. "Web Site" tab, Log visits checked, directory set to a location on my "F:" drive as each site is configured to log to an independent log directory. To rule out NTFS permission issues, I have given the directory where the logs are to be written EVERYONE Ful Control. No logs are being written. I have restarted the Service, rebooted the server, and done everything I can think of but no logs. The server is receiving traffic, so its not a "no visitors are hitting your site" issue. There are pleanty of visitors, just no logs. I don't know what to do to enable logging short of reinstalling the server and seeing if I get it to work that way. Any ideas appreciated.  - Problems with headers in the IIS I have a heavy client, developed in C #, connected by means of Remoting to its logic of business that is mounted on a IIS. Initially, in the IIS I made a virtual directory, in the Web site by defect, to mount this logic of business and worked perfectly. Next, in the IIS I created a new Web site, to which I did not assign any type of head Web, by which the requests through a port different from the 80 would enter (used by the Web site by defect) and also worked perfectly. The problem arose when I created in the IIS a new Web site and I assigned a host header name to it (I also wrote that header in the DNS so that it solved the name well). Through the IE, putting the route in the navigator, I was able to accedd to the WSDL definition.(For example: http://cabecera/clsClase.rem?WSDL) In addition, the client is able to create an instance of the class in remote, but the problem comes when trying to call to some property or method of this class. Then it gives the problem: "System.Runtime.Remoting.RemotingException: Requested Service not found ". I'm running w2k server with IIS5, I have a more than website running.
My DNS server of a domain lissen to *.mydomain.com.
How do I get IIS so far to do the same for that domain name ??

Hi Erik,
you cannot enter a wildcard like *.yourdomain.com,
you have to enter each domain as a separate host header value. Start your
iis management, open the tree at the left side up to your web site, right
click, properties (oops, right word?), web site, advanced. There you can
make an entry for every host your website should listen to. e.g.:
www.yourdomain.com
www.second.yourdomain.com
www.third.yourdomain.com
somethingcompletelydifferent.mydomain.com
and so on ... all port 80, and please donÂ´t forget to enter the ip address!
