    - ASP on IIS6... cannot find file... good day. I have a problem in running asp files on my iis6... i created a html file, an aspx file and they both works fine... but when I run an asp file... it gives me a 404 error.. all files are in the same folder...     - well I re-installed IIS on my laptop witout success. I read a lot of articles especially on aspfaq.com discussing error 36 in event log which states ""The server failed to load application '/LM/W3SVC/1/Root'" or "The specified metadata was not found". This lead me to discover that my COM+ service is not running (red down arrow).     - IIS/ASP/SQL Security Error I am getting an error trying to run a SQL Server SELECT statement from an ASP Application. I am learning ASP/IIS/SQL Server by writing a small ASP app in Dreamweaver. I've created and tested the ODBC connection just fine. And when I create the connection in Dreamweaver and run the query it works just fine.     - iis6 multiple websites ASP.net searches drives I'm new here, so if I'm in the wrong place tell me. I'm running 2003, IIS6, multiple websites. Whenever I access a website that utilizes .net webpages, the server accesses my diskette drives before it finally serves up the page. It seems to be searching for the resources to serve up the page. Can someone please help?     - HTTP Error 500 G'day to all. I've posted this at microsoft.public.frontpage.extensions.windowsnt (in case this is an FP thing, but i doubt it). I am getting error message http 500 - internal error... (Friendly messages off yields: Server Application Error The server has encountered an error while loading an application during the processing of your request. Please refer to the event log for more detail information. Please contact the server administrator for assistance.) I've checked every MS KB article (including deleting the IIS packages in component manager, checked IUSR & IWAM). Here are snippets from the server event logs: 1) App - COM+ (Error 4097) - The run-time environment has detected an inconsistency in its internal state. Please contact Microsoft Product Support Services to report this error. *** Error in __FILE__(926): Application image dump failed. MS has been no help here (so far) as I submitted this to them on Wednesday. 2) Sys - W3SVC (Error 36) - The server failed to load application '/LM/W3SVC/1/Root/mymail'. The error was 'Server execution failed. For additional information specific to this message please visit the Microsoft Online Support site located at: http://www.microsoft.com/contentredirect.asp. (This goes to the vapornet) 3) Sys - DCOM (Error 10010) - The server {3D14228D-FBE1-11D0-995D-00C04FD919C1} did not register with DCOM within the required timeout. ERRATA: Funny thing it works fine in another IIS 5 server. The major difference is the server that fails (as well as my 2KWS machine) is the server has FP 2002 Extensions. However, the application directory (which is identical to a server without FP) has the appropriate permissions and has not been extended. I should also note, that HTM & HTML code words just fine, so I'm not convinced that it is an IIS or NTFS permissions thingy (but what the heck, I could be wrong here). The server system logs for IIS show a request for the url/login.asp as expected. Any suggestions (other than all the related MS KB articles - all of which I have saved) would be greatly appreciated.     - Strange thing I have a laptop where I have Win XP pro, IS 5 asp .Net 1 and 1.1, VS 2002 and 2003. this morning I tried to browse one of the we sites I developed on my server, I got a message indicating that I have no .Net setup on my machine. I opened the IIS mmc, and for the first time I see the the node myMachineNem(LocalComputer), clicking on it, everything disapPeared (web sites, smtp , ftpservice, ...........) I opened the service sheet, saw WWW service has not started, i ried to start it, I get the following error essage : Could not start the WWW Publishing service on local computer.     - Error running Asp.net files in IIS 5.1 I have Windows XP Pro Service Pack 2 installed with IE 6.0 and IIS 5.1. I'm unable to get IIS to run aspx files correctly. The server gives a unrecognized character error on the first <% in the file. When running the IIS admin control and right clicking on the default web site to bring up the properties the application crashes when I select the ASP.NET tab with a error message pointing to the Microsoft Management Console.     - Cannot Install IIS on Windows XP I tried to install IIS from Windows XP Pro using Add/Remove Windows Components. The process went on for a while and then hung at "Completing configuration of SMTP Service" for over an hour. I killed the task, went back into Add/Remove Winodws Components, unchecked IIS, and run it again to remove the remnants of files I have there, and try installing again.     - iis 6 .aspx page w/ form will not submit PLS HLP I am not a .NET pro but I am moving several sites to a new server (from WIN2K to WIN2K3). The sites seem to be working fine but any page that has a form and submit button and has the extention .aspx, will not work. If I fill out the form incorrectly the form validation works fine but once all data is in, and the submit button is pushed.... nothing happens, no page reset/refresh, no form change, just nothing. This happens on multiple sites. I have done some research and I am thinking it is a security setting in IIS 6 but cannot seem to find exactly what to do. Any help woudl be greatly apprecaited!     - Self Posting results in 404 Hello, I have an IIS 5.0 server runing on a Win2000 box and have noticed a very strange behavior: namely, that when some page (say Login.aspx), posts back to itself, this results in a 404 error. What's particularly intriquing, is that this also happens if it's Login.php. Both the .NET framework and php are installed (the latter for legacy reasons).     - scripts/.dll's won't run on SBS2003 I have scripts/MyProgram.dll's that have run fine on Windows 2000 IIS. When I try to run the scripts/MyPrograms.dll's that access COM+ objects I hear a beep on the server and IIS seems to lockup until restarted. The .dll's that do not access COM+ objects run fine on 2003IIS, but the ones that access COM+ objects do not.     - Error handling SSI File : Win32 Error Code = 87 Way back in December of 2003 there was the following post which had no responses. After tons of fighting with it, we discovered that for us this error was caused by one of the things we did in trying to get SSI's to work with Windows 2003. What we had done was added a wildcard ISAPI processing dll for application mappingunder the home directory, configuration property. That is the wrong way to attempt to get SSI's working and once we figured the right way to get SSI's working under Windows 2003 (which is Choosing Web Services Extensions and choosing Server Side Includes to Allow instead of its default of Prohibited) we found that we got the above error until we removed the wildcard.     - LDAP routing with IIS SMTP Service Hi, I would like to install a Windows 2003 in my DMZ as an SMTP gateway. The company is not using Exchange as messaging system. On my DMZ smtp gateway, I would like to be able to check, when I receive an email, if this user exist in my messaging system. I read IIS config and especially the LDAP routing section, but it is confusing for me. They are talkin about a 'schema type' but I only have 3 Microsoft products in the list (AD, site server, ...)     - DNS and IIS - web sites not working Here is the problem. I have multiple web sites on IIS6 windows 2003 server. Site a, b, c, d. Site a, b, c work d does not. DNS is set up the same for all 4 sites. Web site configuration is set up the same for all 4 sites. There are no IIS or DNS errors in the event log. All sites are using host headers. If I delete web site c from IIS6, web site d show up for the URL of web site c!. Very strange and I don't know how to fix. If I restore web site C it work correclty but wbe site d does not work.     - IIS 6.0, Http.sys and BadRequest on mobile devices Hi! I'm using Windows 2003 and IIS 6.0 to host a mobile device application. I've migrated over from IIS 5.0. IIS 6.0 seems to block all incoming requests from mobile devices. My suspicion is that http.sys blocks these requests because they're without user agent or has an illegal \r\n ending in the request. But my problem is that I cannot control the requests generated by the mobile devices using my app. Does anyone know how to shut off or configure the request blocking done by http.sys? Or do I have to go all the way back to windows 2000? Any ideas or suggestions are welcome!!! PS: I suspect that http.sys blocks the mobile device requests because they don't have user agent in header.     - Avoiding query timeouts in ASP.NET ? Hi We are using ASP.NET on IIS5 to process requests in a database. How can one make choices in the .aspx based on if a user has or hasn't changed a field?     - IIS Log Locking Problems I'm trying to compress, then move my log files to a central location on a nightly basis. While compression succeeds, moving (copy then delete) the log files sometimes fail with an access denied/file open by another process. I'm using IIS5 and I have "Use local time for file naming and rollover" checked and rollover is set to deaily. Every night at midnight, a new log file is created as expected. However, on some sites, on some servers, IIS simply hasn't/won't release it's lock on the previous days log file until hours after midnight even though the new log file is created and is actively being written to right after midnight. First, shouldn't IIS completely release all log files immediately after a rollover? Second, is there any way to force it do so but lowering a buffer size somewhere? Every time I turn off and on the power of the i7188EA my server recognize it and make an entry in the log-file. I notice the same problem when I browse to the page from IE. But when I use Ctrl+F5 the server make an entry in the log-file. It seemes to that something is not released until the device is off or when IE is reloaded from scratch. What to do?     - Recommendations invited. What tools do you use for Capacity and Load testing of a Website? From the lack of response to my earlier enquiries it has become obvious that nobody uses Microsoft's WCAT utility, (or is prepared to admit they use it). We seem to have problems getting it to work except on one Website, and there we don't know what it is that makes the difference. What we wanted to use it for was as a tool to throw scripted URLs at a chosen Website. Either as a load test, or to replicate what had happened earlier according to a log file. So I wondered what tools other people were using to do this kind of a thing, and how good they found them for the task?     - Is Index Server available under Windows 2003 Server? Have used Index Server in the past under Windows NT4. Trying to establish whether Index Server is an option under Windows 2003. MS Website seems to be silent on this, which I am beginning to suspect means that it is not available. If so is it available for Windows 2000 server ? If so then can it index/search documents on other servers if they are Windows server 2003. I'm returning to Index Server after a gap of 4 years - and things seem to have moved on (or disappeared). I am guessing that MS are trying to move users onto Sharepoint...but of course this is not free like Index server was.     - Exchange question again - Different wording I haven't got any replies to my previous question. Ill try wording it in a different way. When you install exchange 2003 it will create 3 IIS Virtual folders (Exchange, Public and admin) used for Web access to get your mail. I want to use this but NOT on the same box. Can I run the basic exchange tasks (sending recieving mail) on 1 box and move the web part of it to a different Webserving box? I have and exchange server and a webserver running in the same DMZ. Thats 2 IIS servers running. I only want 1. The only way I can see around this is to install exchange on the Webserver. But I don't want to do this because ity will install active directory and all sorts of stuff I don't want/ The webserver is busy enough without having to now also recieve/send mail etc. Any ideas would be appriciated. I have a problem with virtual directories. After I have created a virtual
directory named "docs", the directory hides its position and I can't change
any properties. The VD "docs" can be use normally on my ISS, but I can't see
the VD anymore.

Does anybody knows what the problem is ?

What do you mean "hidden"? Hidden where? Can you see it using IIS Manager?
