Hi,

we are hosting a webservice that is used by numerous users and is
running just fine. The Webservice is only used by our own application.

When one specific user is executing the call, it is failing and in the
logfiles there is a http status code 400 logged.

The webserver is located in germany and almost all users are located in
germany too.

This user is located in spain and uses telefonica as provider with a
static IP. He Says that telefonica uses a proxy. (Don't if this matters).

What can I do?
What could be the reason for the 400 status code?

Thanks,

Anton

Hi Anton,

Thanks for posting!

For the current issue, since other clients all work fine, I think this is a
client issue. So, I wonder if you use the IE to access the web services
directly, whether the problem still occurs. If the problem is also
encountered, I suggest you use the WFetch tool to capture some related
information. This will help us to narrow down the current issue. The
following KB article explains how to use the WFetch tool and where you can
obtain it:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=KB;en-us;q284285

When you use it, you can input the address of the web services to the text
box. And then, you will get more log information. Please post the log info
here or just send it to me directly if this is inconvenience. My alias is
v-yren@online.microsoft.com (remove .online). Thanks for your understanding!

I'm looking forward your reply.

Hi Yuan,

via the IE the Webservice is accessible.

In some cases the webservice is also accessible from our application.
The webservice has string parameters, that are representing XML Documents.

I have build a test case where the webservice is called with empty
parameters and this calls were made successfully.

So I think the bad request errors are depending on the content of the
parameters. Is that possible?

The content isn't very large. Only a view kb. Other users have no
problems executing the call with similar content.

Thanks,

Anton

Based on my experience, this is possible. I suggest you post some related
information from IIS log file (httperr.log). This will help us to narrow
down the current issue. Thanks for your understanding!

I'm looking forward your reply.

Hi Anton,

Thanks for your patience!

I have seen some related information from the HTTP log. Based on my
experience, the problem might be cause by the bad request content. Since
the issue is encountered randomly, it is not easy to capture the request
content. However, I think the main factor of the issue is proxy.

At the current stage, because other clients all work fine, in my opinion,
there is no problem for the IIS server actually. So, I think the good way
to troubleshooting is live collaboration with both client in Spain and
server. This means using the NetMon tool to capture the package which sends
from the client. When the problem occurs, you can get more details about
the content of request.

I'm sorry that I think this issue is out of the scope of the newsgroup
support. It is better to contact our PSS department to resolve the current
issue. For your reference, I attached steps to contact Microsoft PSS here:
