I'm currently looking at our deployment of IIS 6 on Windows 2003 Server R2.
FrontPage 2002 server extensions aren't installed by default. Are they still
needed for an intranet? We're going to be using SharePoint Designer 2007 to
edit our intranet. This can work with a file share but also with HTTP.

Thanks, Rob.

Hi Rob,

If you do not have any old web applications which depends on Frontpage
server extensions, I think FPSE2002 is not required.

However SharePoint Designer 2007 still supports to edit FPSE based web
site. So if you do not want to setup Windows SharePoint Service(WSS) or
SharePoint Portal Server(SPS) on the server, you can consider to keep using
FPSE2002.

Please let me know if you have any further question.

Have a great day.

Sincerely,

I suspect it's needed it you want to use the "Edit this page" icon in
Internet Explorer to edit a page. This, I assume, asks SPD to open the
http:\\ourintranet\somepage.htm page which needs FP extensions. I can't see
it working any other way as SPD can't magically work out the share path to a
web site from the http address alone.

Cheers, Rob.
