    - Wildcard application Mappings disable default documents On IIS6 I have configured a wildcard application mapping, but now when I just browse to a URL or an IP without specifying a document, it does not add the "default document" anymore. Is it a bug in IIS 6.0 ? Does anyone know a workaround? Or does anyone have code to replace the "default document settings" in an isapifilter? I don't have any clue how to do that.     - Reverse proxying IIS Folks, hypothetical scenario- User connects to website 1 over the Internet using https User then needs to connect to Internet Website 2 over https Website 2 has been locked down to only allow access from the Website 1 Internet valid IP address. Traffic direct from user to Website 2 will be dropped Does anyone know if it is possible to reverse proxy this request so that the user still remains connected to Website 1 but the content they see comes from Website 2? Source OS is Win2K IIS5.0. What makes things more complicated is that the client will be using https to connect to the initial website and then need to use https to get to the third-party web site too. My initial thought is that there's absolutely no way to do this [without writing my own ISAPI filter] but I need to rule this out as a viable solution to bring to the table.     - Frontpage User conflicts We are having an issue with the following error: The user account 'username' cannot be added to the current virtual server because it is in use by a Web on a different virtual server. User accounts created by Microsoft SharePoint or FrontPage Server Extensions can only be used by one virtual server at a time. Try to create a new account with a different name. It seems that the user wasn't deleted properly before the website was removed. We've been able to fix this before, when we knew the website ID that it was attached to. However, now we are unable to delete it. There is a workaround: http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=300838 I would prefer getting the entry out of there completely. Is there any way to find out where this username is entered? It is no longer in the user manager, and we could not see that it was attached to any existing websites.     - Installed security patches, can't reach internet Hi Guys - This morning I installed the cumulative security patch for IE 6 I can no longer reach the Internet. Fortunately I still have mail because my mail client is Eudora. Would appreciate help. Am at work now, will pick up mail when I get home.     - Properties dialog failing to show I have an XP Pro box that I recently installed IIS on. I can see asp pages via http://localhost, but when I open the control interface (either through MMC or inetmgr) I can see the default web site, but when I right click and select properties the machine acts like its going to open the interface but doesn't. I have uninstalled and reinstalled IIS and still get the same results. Any ideas? To go along with this I can see the properties interface for ftp and SMTP when I do the same to them.     - "Page cannot be displayed" for proxied resource Hi, I have 2 Win 2003 Server machines with IIS 6.0. I am using the IISProxy for IIS to SAP WebAS on both IIS 6.0 setups. The same files with the same proxy configuration are being used on both the machines. While on one setup it is working fine, on the other I am being displayed the "Page cannot be displayed" error. Note that the machine which is showing the error has SAP WebAS installed along with IIS 6.0. I have confirmed that it isn't a browser issue either. Strangely the proxy logs show the correct data being returned by the SAP WebAS (similar in both the IIS 6.0 setups). There are no errors anywhere (checked even the IIS logs and event viewer), but somehow the page is not being displayed. From what I could conclude that its an IIS 6.0 or machine issue.     - Hanging server, DebugDiag log included Hi all. I have a problem with our website. It is currently running on IIS 6. The site is mainly constructed around a bunch of DLL's. Now, everything seems to work smoothly. As soon as more than (roughly) 20 users are on one of the servers, the Current Anonymous Users begins to rise. I know this is a strong pointer to possible hangups of the DLL. So, to see which one it is, and why it happens, I ran IISState against the main DLLHOST.exe, and pulled the DMP file through DebugDiag with a crash analyser. I get the following output.     - how to populate the tomcat http request with account name We have a Tomcat application in which each request is routed via IIS (isapi-redirect) IIS populates a parameter with the active directory account name. This is then available in Tomcat to authenticate via a call to Active Directory. Without the account name I cannot see how we can authenticate. I am hoping someone can suggest an alternative way to providing the account name without using IIS? I have seen 3rd party products that support single sign on such as Vintela but these would appear to depend on the account name being provided in the request.     - problem: Stream XLS to user via ASP page I have a page which streams an Excel spreadsheet to the user. It has worked fine for 12mths or more, but recently I found out that it wasn't working. I suspect the problem lies with IIS, but I'm not sure... When the user submits a form, the page should stream the file to the user - the user is presented with a standard Open/Save/Cancel dialog, which the would ordinarily save to their HDD. I have updoaded the code from the live server to my development machine (IIS5.1) - and this same code works fine. However, on the live server (IIS6), the user is presented with the dialog box, but rather than listing myfile.xls, it lists mypage.asp as the file to be downloaded. I think this must be an IIS6 issue but I don't know what. Some time before the problem was noticed, work had been done on the live server, but AFAIK nothing was done that was *intended* to affect this application. Any ideas?     - Help on ASP.NET and IIS ?? Dear all, I do not know if I am in the right place to post that message so lets try. I have build a simple application using ASP.NET. If I run my application from my own system (W2000 Sp4, IIs 6.0) configured as a web server, it works fine and I can access all pages without any trouble from any other work station. Then I I copied my all project structure and install it under Server 2003, configured IIS to point to the proper virtual directory, use default authentication, then I get an error saying that the page is not found. Physically it is there, event if I type the full adress that include initial page I got the same thing. AN other point I could notice is that if I configure my web project to be able to get thet Browsing access, typeing the adress shows all the files in my web project, then if I click the page which is suppose to be display first I get the same error.     - IIS6 Service Unavailable HI all! I read a number of posting about 503 Service Unavailable browser messages that comes along with 1002 and 1009 system event errors. I am running IIS6 on 2003 Server. The DefaultAppPool runs under NETWORK SERVICE. I was wondering if anyone have found a solution to problem yet. I have tried the following and see no resolution yet: 1. Filemon - no access denieds found 2. RegMon- no access denieds found 3. Local Policy- compared to new machine and it looks the same 4.     - HTTPModule behavior different between IIS5 and IIS6 The task is to create a httpmodule that will be mapped to the extension ".jpg", perform a task, and alow the request to continue. I have a httpmodule that is working exactly as I want it in winXP. When deployed to Win2k3, I get a very different result. The module watches the BeginRequest event, and calls a method: public void Init(HttpApplication context) { context.BeginRequest += new EventHandler(context_BeginRequest); } This part works fine in both IIS6 and IIS5, when mapped to the .jpg extension. Next I have two problems. First, in IIS6, the BeginRequest even is fired 101 times for every request. In IIS5 it happens only once (I write to the applog so I can see this happening). The second problem happens after all work is finsihed with the BeginRequest event. In IIS5, the request for the .jpg is handled, and the browser is handed the image as desired. In IIS6, the request does not continue, and the image is not loaded by the browser. I was abole to get around the problem with IIS6 by respoonse.write of the image, but I would much rather have IIS handle the rest of the request.     - Integrated Authentication Always logs in Administrator Here is my problem, On a windows 2003 server, I am running IIS 6, Share Point services and Business Portal. I created a seperate website for our Intranet and it is not configured for share point services. I disabled anonymous access to this intranet and enabled integrated authentication. Now here's the kicker, no matter who you logon as it will log you in as the domain administrator! Even if you press cancel at the logon prompt it will still let you in as the administrator. This server is a domain controller in a seperate domain from the user I am trying to logon, and I have tried with local domain users as well. The only way I can stop this behavior is to deny the administrator access to the intranet folder of the website. That is not the best solution, as then the administrator can't edit anything within the website folders.     - Cannot get IIS to answer OWA requests by url Hi everyone, I am having a tough time getting OWA to work. I have followed all the docs on isaserver.org to implement a FE Exch server w/IIS 6.0 behind an ISa server. At the current time, I am stuck trying to browse to owa.domain.com/exchange. I left the dafault Exch setup with the /exchange virtual directories under the default web site. I can get to OWA by machine name and Ip address but I want to get there internally by owa.domain.com/exchange. I tried using a host header on the default web site. When I type the url I get prompted for my certificate but then I get a 404 on the web site. This happens whether SSL is on or not. If I want to use SSL on OWA, how do I set up IIS to answer to owa.domain.com? I have an A record and a cname record setup for that url as well so I think its just IIS not answering for that host header. Please help, I am lost here. If I go in Internet Information Services Manager on the ASP site, Home Directory tab, and set "Execute permissions" to Scripts Only, or even Scripts and Executables, I get a 404 error.     - Changing passwords WITHOUT OWA Hi I have only found one other post on this topic and that was for IIS 4.0 I am running IIS 6.0 on a windows 2003 small business server box. We host a website to which our customers need a login to enter. These logins are set up as domain logins on the sbs box. We would like these customers to have the ability to change their passwords from the outside world, but we dont want to have to make them log in to Outlook web access in order to do it.     - Can Not Save MetaBase.xml I have Enable Direct Metabase Edit checked, so rule that out. When I do edit the xml file in notepad and try to save it it will not let me save the changes.     - IIS 6.0 ASP.NET and Security... Sorry, this seems to be talked about to death, but I can't see the problem... I just moved my web site onto our production server and now I'm getting 401.3 errors (log shows 401 3 5). It must have something to do with ASP.NET (old web was FP only) and directory permissions. If I set file permissions, it seems to come up OK (no images, but...) I've changed the Anonymous user to an administrator ID and it works fine. I've checked the folder permissions and they all appear to be OK (list, read, execute).     - Authentication errors using Mail service on 2003 std I added the e-mail server role to my server. and put in my domain and set up a few test users but I have a problem when I go to use the accounts. I'm using outlook express as my mail client and it says the server is rejecting the password. I've tripple checked to make shure I got the usernames and password right, still that's the error i get. So it's obvsly finding the server, but it's not loging in correctly. I don't have active directory installed, I did have IIS installed and running a webpage before I installed the e-mail. and I'm using the "Local Windows Accounts" as my Authentication method.     - IIS and File Replication Hi, I am currently creating/testing a small web farm consisting of two Win2k3 Standard Servers that will hopefully end up hosting services to a number of small to medium-sized websites for clients. (probably a hundred or so - there are no sites that are overly strenuous on bandwidth or resources.) Both servers are AD DCs running mirrored IIS configurations (metabases synced using IIsCnfg.vbs), NLB to provide load balancing and a DFS/replicated "Domains" folder of all the content/logs of the websites. I have a few questions for anyone that has maybe set up a configuration like this? (Advice and hints would be very much welcomed too!) 1) Is it really good idea to replicate IIS log files? Would the replication service be able to handle the potential problems of two different log files on each server as visitors hit each one? (The servers are connected over a local 1Gbit connection - there are two NICs in each server, one for NLB one for general local network traffic) Stats generated from these log files are essential for analysis so this definitely needs to be implemented somehow. 2) Network load balancing includes the affinity setting - we have a number of classic ASP web apps using Session variables that could have issues with a web farm environment. Is the affinity setting (in Single mode) in NLB reliable enough to keep a web user sticky to their initial server for a reasonable amount of time? 3) Performance-wise! What are other people's thoughts/ideas for this implementation?     - IIS 6.0 Event 1074 Hi, Iâ??m using win server 2003 and IIS 6.0, C# 1.1 When I check in my Event View under system, I see this Information Log: A worker process with process id of 'xxx' serving application pool â??xxxâ?? has requested a recycle because the worker process reached its allowed processing time limit. Source: W3SVC Event: 1074 I have my Recycle Worker Processes (in minutes) to recycle every 120 min and process in 35000. It seems like, almost every 2 hours I get this Information log, and it also seem like my session states starts over too. Why do I get this Information log almost every 2 hours and not every 2 hours? And when I see this, is this bad? What does this log file really mean? And should I change my settings to have IIS recycle more often or even change my code in my aspx page. I had to turn off Enable Rapid-fail Protection, I was getting page could not displayed.     - images not viewable I work for a middle size bank. We recently got some new software that allows us to scan the documents and store them electronically. We use a win2003 server to house this software, and at first we only bought 5 license. We are trying to use a feature of it and that is to be able to browse the scanned documents using Internet Explorer. It works fine as long as you have an account on that server. The images will not show (show up as a red X) if you don't have an account. I have added the anonymous user to the security of the folder and it still doesn't work.
