    - Very strange... OK... I have a Windows 2003 Web Edition server running IIS6 with a Perl/PHP site. When I initially installed the server I couldn't get the site to run until I installed ActivePerl build 809 which I did and worked well. In fact, really well. Performance was outstanding with CPU usage hovering around 3-5% for the major page hits. No complaints Today I tried to access one of the pages on the server and it seems that it stopped processing .cgi scripts overnight for some unknown reason. PHP loaded just fine, but anything with a .cgi extension failed. Since I hadn't made any changes to the server (only website updates copying files to and from www direcotry) since it was functioning just fine. I was quite baffled as to why this was happening. I thought maybe it just needs a reboot. Rebooted, same problem. Did some research and some checking around it all of a sudden the .cgi extension was not listed in application extensions. I do not understand how this could be. The site was running just fine, 24 hours ago with no changes whatsoever including web updates. In any case, I remapped .cgi extensions to c:\Perl\bin\perl.exe "%S" %S and now the site seems to be loading again. However, now one page load is taking up massive CPU usage. Some spikes have gone as high as 80% with Perl.exe taking up most of the CPU usage. What is wrong here? I never had this much resource usage before. Please help.. Another interesting note is that although I didn't do any web updates, the content on the site is dynamic and seems to have been reverted to about 2 days ago. Anything posted to the site by users has disappeared and it's functioning as if the server has gone back in time two days ago, except that it was working fantasticly two days ago.     - Special considerations for American/Asian website? We are building a website for both an American and Asian market (that will be SQL 2000 on the backend), and I am looking for any special webhosts and website (ASP) issues I need to be especially aware of when it comes to Asian characters (double-byte). For example, are there special charsets I need to define within my pages? or are there IIS settings I need to be concerned with in order to ensure I can store and read double-byte strings etc?     - Win2k3 with IIS6 failing with no event log errors I have a new Win2k3 server running IIS6, latest MDAC, Latest JET SP and no updates available at this time. What is happening is every day I have 3-6 failures where i have to restart the webservices to get the sites up.     - Missing dlls installing IIS I have a work's laptop running XP Pro that was configured by the IT Services guys and I need to install IIS but when I try (through the Control Panel) it asks for the Service Pack 1 CD. I don't have the disk (I guess ITS are too anal and untrusting) and when I try to browse the i386 folder on the C drive it can't locate infocomm.dll so I have to cancel. I imagine there are other dll files I'd need too but don't know what they would be. Is there any way or anywhere I can download the files without infringing licence?     - IIS 6.0 - Memory problem in "Worker process isolation mode" First post never showed up. Trying again I have an ASP (classic) application that works fine using IIS 5.0. Whe using IIS 6.0 I have no problems when in "IIS 5.0 Isolation Mode", but whe IIS 6.0 is using "Worker process isolation mode" I get an "Out of memory error in one of my COM components when it is called from an ASP page. Ther is no error being generated in an event log or from IIS, the only sign tha something has gone wrong is that the COM component reports that i encountered an internal "Out of memory" error during processing (which a that point involves getting some data from a database, analyzing it an generating a chart image) This particular COM component does tend to use a lot of memory - when I us it in a standard windows application the task manager memory usage goes u to around 26 MB at that point in the processing I'm guessing that the total memory available to my COM component whe running in "Worker process isolation mode" is less that that available i "IIS 5.0 Isolation Mode" Are there any adjustments that can be made to affect how much memory is mad available to my application when running in "Worker process isolation mode" Or, does anyone have any suggestions on how to get this application to ru in "Worker process isolation mode"?     - Reinstaling IIS and restoring websites I accidentally deleted my Windows 2003 default web site. My metadata is very old and does not contain both my current websites and the old. My understanding is I need to reinstall IIS. I am concerned when I do this I will lose my 15+ configured web sites. The problem is if I crate a backup now it will not have my root web; if I were to restore a metadata backup once my rootweb has been reinstalled will this overwrite the root? In short I need to get my root web back and not take out all of my existing web sites. No metadata exists with both my root web and my websites. I can create a backup now which contains all of my websites then restore one of my old metadata at which point I would have my root web.     - FileSystemObject corruption? Hi everyone I have a strange problem that keeps popping up. I have some scripts that use the FileSystemObject, and every now and then, out of the blue, they stop working, and when that page tries to run, it just hangs. The rest of IIS works fine, but any page using the FileSystemObject just hangs indefinitely, without an error. The solution I've found to this problem is to reboot the server (the W3SVC won't stop when i do "net stop"), then re-install the Windows Script Engine, then reboot again, and it starts working.     - IIS does not launch I have IIS (probably 5.0) on Windows XP. When I launch Internet Services Manager (from Control Panel -> Administrative Tools), it launches fine. Then, I run my ASP page which tries to connect to Oracle database and fails (don't know why). Then, I try to launch the Internet Services Manager again but it doesn't launch. What is wrong Everything (IIS, the ASP page) was working fine for a year until I uninstalled Oracle and cleaned up Registry entries that were related to Oracle and then reinstalled Oracle.     - "error" stop sign on virtual directory or second FTP site I'm trying to set up access to two network drives through my workstation. I can do one without any problems. However if I try to add a virtual directory to a network drive, I get a stop error message. The same thing happens if I try to add a second ftp to access the other network drive. I'm running Windows XP workstation. I can't setup and ftp on the computer that has the network drives I'm trying to connect to, because I don't have my router setup to forward ports to that computer and I would rather not do so.     - Multiple site hosting setup recommendation I have a Windows 2000 IIS5 server. I know that multiple sites can be hosted on a single IP via host headers. My question is regarding directory security. In my test environment I have the following setup: - I have a web root on a hardware RAID5 located at D:\Inetpub - In IIS I have the Default FTP set set to "All unassigned", and the FTP root is D:\Inetpub - I create websites as subfolders of the Inetpub directory, i.e. D:\Inetpub\website1.com, D:\Inetpub\website2.com, etc. - I create an account in Active Directory for each domain, i.e. website1.com, website2.com, etc. - I assign NTFS permissions for these accounts to have full control of their respective folders, so DOMAIN\website1.com has full control of D:\Inetpub\website1.com, etc. With this configuration if I FTP into the hostname of the site and enter the username of DOMAIN\website1.com, I am placed directly into D:\Inetpub\website1.com. However if I go back a directory I am allowed to do so (as the Everyone group has List permissions on the root folder, otherwise I can't log in) and see all the subfolders--and go into them if I wish--even though I cannot modify any of the content in those folders. My question is how can I restrict access for the DOMAIN\website1.com account to the D:\Inetpub\website1.com folder? I can simply create a seperate FTP and make the root be that site's folder, but since FTP does not support host headers I would have to do this for each site, negating the usefulness of host headers. Personally I know that it's not a huge security problem, but I know customers will eventually notice this and wonder why they can do it. Using 3rd party FTP servers such as Bulletproof FTP allows me to host a site and log users/groups into a particular folder and keep them there, but I want to know how to do it in IIS (we have a management application that will allow the user to manage their username/password, but it has to be using the AD username/password for FTP access, so I can't use a 3rd party solution).     - 100% cpu and threads in ZwWaitForSingleObjec I'm running IIS 5.0 on Win2k and see most of the threads in the state below (blocked trying to allocate a heap?). There is plenty of memory on the machine and this happens right after IIS is started. We have lots of vb and c++ com components and do a lot of ado/db access. Most of the components we write have the crt statically linked in. But we recently made a change to msvcr71.dll for some of the components so I'm wondering if there could be a crt conflict.     - Code no longer works I have a machine that I was using as a web server that I recently changed the operating system from Windows 2000 Professional to Windows Advanced Server 2000, (not ideal but I had no choice). Well now I have website code that hangs up and give me an error message, when it was working perfectly before. This is the code: set fsObj = server.createobject ("Scripting.FileSystemObject") set myFile = fsObj.CreateTextFile(fileName, True) I had been sending results returned to the browser to an excel file and now it now longer works. I now get the following error message : Error Type: Microsoft VBScript runtime (0x800A004C) Path not found /ticketinfo.asp, line 140 The line referenced in the error message refers to the line where the file is created.     - IIS Lockdown Problem I just installed IIS on Windows 2000 Advanced Server. After installing IIS LockDown, I got the error message when I opened the Internet Explorer (6.0) and typed http://localhost. The error message was "error '80070003' /localstart.asp, line 19 ". If I open Internet Services Manager, I got the following error "Error connected to servername. The system cannot find the path specified.     - IIS Index Service - Do you need a Catalogue define for it to work I have two different websites which use the Index Service. One has a catalogue defined and sets the catalogue name in the object used for the search. The other does not define a Catalogue name. Both appear to work fine. I have read that in the Catalogue properties there is a default catalogue directory (Web) created. If no other catalogue is created does IIS automatically store all the index information in that "Web" catalogue directory My question is Do you need to define/configure a catalogue to have the search to work?     - problem with website When using an application (the website ASP pages copy a word file to the server and then opens it on the server to parse through it), that runs on IIS5 from a client PC, you receive the following error Server object error 'ASP 0178 : 80070005' Server.CreateObject Access Error /*.asp, line 102 The call to Server.CreateObject failed while checking permissions. Access is denied to this object. I tried the fix mentioned in Microsoft article 198432 but this has not made any difference. (Do you need to reboot the server for this to take effect?)     - URLSCAN on IIS6 config I am having some problems getting URLScan 2.5 running properly on IIS6. I can't get the default doc to display unless it is written out in the url. If I remove urlscan from the server it is okay. When I try to open log and go to eof (end of file) I see logged only access of about 2 hours ago...:-( Ex: I analyze txt log file of site A on 11:40 AM.     - Creating Web Sites Programmatically in IIS 5 with ASP I found a solution to this problem below but I need some help to get it to support multiple host names. Does anybody know how to add additional host headers to a virtual website through a script? The article demonstrates how to create an ASP application to setup a new website. The script is based on mkw3site.vbs. I got it working but I need help to modify the script to support additional host headers. I am trying to setup and app that adds for example www.mycompany.com and mycompany.com at the same time.     - Default WEb Site won't start I have searched on this and couldn't find anything. I have IIS 4 running on NT4 Server (SP6a). When I try to start the default web site in IIS it doesn't work. I don't get any error messages either. I checked the event viewer logs and nothing turns up in any log. I also checked the IIS logs and nothing is there.     - Conncurent Connections in 2003 server I recently migrated my server over from 2000 to 2003. I am running ColdFusion 6.1 on the IIS server. I know I would rather be using ASP.NET but we will get ehere in time. I have tried 2003 web eddtion and and Standard addtion. Here is what happens I maintain an easy 30 to 70 current anynomus users according to performace monitor on the 2000 box. I swap over to the 2003 bos and the site traffic drops big time I'm lucky if I see between 6 and 10 continues users. Now I checked what I thought would be the obvious with license mode and have set the serer up in device/user mode and per server mode.     - Using IIS6 with UNC Just installed a few IIS6 (2k3 Web Edition) Servers and looking to get them up and running with our NAS. While all documentation says it should be easy as pie, it never is when you try to work with it. So far I think I've tried every possible combination of authentication mechanism's and ways to specify the UNC without any luck This works perfectly under IIS5. Using existing sites that work with IIS5 return HTTP 401.3 errors. Permissions appear correct. Sites fail regardless of Anonymous or using the domain admin account to connect via HTTP. I have tried allowing the local IUSR_Machinename account and even setup using the IUSR_domainaccount for anonymous and it absolutely bombs out. Event logs show no errors only successful authentication requests for Anonymous or the Admin account, yet the filer seems to cause the 401.3 errors I'm at my wits end. Help?!     - Can't get my website to display I've followed all the directions for setting up a virtual site at least several times and I'm not getting any results. "Page cannot be displayed." The virtual directory I've created points to where the file lives, and the file it's pointing to, is verified in the directory. When I click on the Virtual Directory that I created from the details pane, I see all the files that live in that directory it's pointing to. When I right click on the file I'm trying to show and choose browse I get a url of http://localhost/dls/<filename> (dls being the virtual directory) with a page cannot be found error I have unchecked the option in my browser internet options "show unfriendly http: errors" already and that doesn't help Any other ideas? Dear Community, While researching authentication options for my Windows 2000 IIS web server I encountered a few articles dated from 2002 that described incompatibilities between Apache and Microsoft implementations of of the Digest Authentication protocol. http://www.eweek.com/print_article/0,3668,a%3D24177,00.asp At the time, it was discovered that the Microsoft IIS version of Digest Authentication worked only with Microsoft's Internet Explorer browser. All other, non-MS browsers such as Mozilla, Netscape, etc., could not authenticate with a Windows web server using digest authentication.     - Remove IIS 6.0 to create clean slate? I've been exploring Windows SharePoint Services with Separate Active Directory Directory Service Organization Unit Deployment. In the process I've renamed my SharePoint server a couple of times, created various applicaton pools and maybe messed things up a bit. For example the first computer name is still used in the metabase. I don't have any sites I plan to keep. Now that I'm getting the hang of things it would be nice to start over, but not go all the way to reinstalling the server OS.     - TerminateExtension called unexpectedly I've got an ISAPI extension that uses the TerminateExtension call to clean up any threads I've created before exit. My thread clean-up routine in TerminateExtension can only complete once all threads created by my extension have stopped. Because of this, it's important that TerminateExtension is only called when the web server is shutting down and is therefore not accepting new requests. I have ISAPI extension caching set to 'on', so I expect that TerminateExtension is only called when the web server is stopping. But from a stack dump, it looks like a large number of threads sitting in my TerminateExtension function even though my web server is not shutting down at all. What I'm wondering is: with ISAPI extension caching on, are there conditinos other than server shut-down under which TerminateExtension will be executed? Is there a way to ensure that it only gets called on shut-down? I'm not overly experienced with web server administration, so any insight into this would be appreciated. A user has created an intranet website with Frontpage and has it stored in a directory called intranet under the user share.     - Unable to post multipart/form-data I really need help with a strange problem. i have a page having ONLY this cleaned and washed HTML code, no client scripting at all and "some" folks are unable to post any file till "some" are able. All using IE6 (SP1 or not) Leaving the <input type="file"> unassigned is ok for everyone but when you select a file, even a SMALL SMALL SMALL 10 bytes almost empty txt file, the form fails to be submitted. I've installed a packet sniffer software on the server and looked carefully at the packets reaching the server on this specific port (not 80). It appears that, for some reasons i realy dont know of, the client response to the "HTTP/1.1 100 Continue" never reach the server. Client seems to time-out waiting for an ACK, server seem to time-out waiting for the data. There is a NAT/Router (SMC) involved and an ADSL modem using PPPoE. IIS is running on a Win2000 SP4, no script blocking (NAV). I have the same issue, but I also do not have the IIS plug0in in the control panel. My problems started after I installed the .Net Framework. I have since removed that but alas I still can not see the pages. I get the 500 erro and I also get page not found errors. I have gotten both, after installing and reinstalling, so I have been able to experience bot. Any Help is appreciated.
