Hi John,
My name is Michael Noto. Thank you for using the Microsoft IIS Newsgroups.
This question is more on the IE or client side. If this answer does not
help, I suggest posting the question to an IE newsgroup.
But if you open IE options (Tools menu, internet options) on the General
tab is where the home page url is stored. There is a button that allows you
to select the current page if you wish or you can type in URL. It is
possible to go to a web site that sets itself as the home page with a
script; if that is what is happening, then post a question to the IE group.

Hello, firstly apologies if in wrong newsgroup for this
question.
I'm using internet explorer 5 and my home page keeps
changing to a search engine page. I've edited the
registary and removed the references to the site which
appear in SearchBar and Search Page and HomeOldSP to no
avail. On restart the page is changed back. Its not as
such a problem but would rather know how or why this is
happening.
