    - Windows could not start IIS Admin on local computer Hi! I upgraded my motherboard and Windows XP Pro required that I repair the operating system which I did. I never had any problem with IIS Admin until I performed this repair. Here are the contents of my setuperr.log.     - can't send mail I created an online registration system but it couldn't send mail to those who registered. To give you a picture, once you register online, the system will send an email message to confirm if it is a valid email, well it doesn't right now. SMTP server is installed in the same server.     - Disk Quota I'm not sure if this has been posted before, but I was wondering if there is a way to setup Disk Quota's for Websites hosting under IIS. I know you can setup Disk Quota from the Hard Drives Properties, but what if the client under IIS is only using it for hosting, no user account that can be linked to that folder (FrontPage - Admin Account)?     - Why CDONTS.SEND take so long? I have been using CDONTS to send emails using an external SMTP Server. When the ASP is processing the SEND command, it seems to process a long time but the email get sent, why is that so? If I shorten the script.timeout, it is shorter and the email gets sent too.     - Interesting Probem with IIS I have not been able to view any of my sites on my local machine. When trying to I simply get blank browser pages. I am using IIS5.1 on Windows XP Professional. When selecting Administrative Tools -> Internet Information Services I notice a red stop sign that says Error beside the icon for Default Web Site. To the left of the icon it says "(Stopped)". If I try to start I get the message: Unexpected error 0x8ffe270 occurred. The entry in the Event Viewer -> System says: Type:Error Date: 24/08/2003 Time:7:08:43 Source:WS3VC Category:None Event:115 user:N/A Computer:Worx I tried to look to see if something else on my machine is using port 443 (the SSL port) but did not find anything. I then decided to create another user on my machine with full Administrator privileges. This user was able to start the Default Web Site and subsequently view the sites that exist on the machine. When I logout the new user and come back in as the Administrator I. too, can view the sites.     - Integrated Windows Authentication I am using Integrated Windows Authentication to protect a directory on a web server. All clients connect and authenticate using MSIE using W2k or better. It works fine inside my LAN, and on some other places outside my LAN, but on some computers when I connect to the password protected directory (still using MSIE), I simply get; "Error. Access Denied". These users can connect to the main web server just fine- they only get this error when they try to access that particular directory. The error is not coming from my customized error pages, and the user does not get a Windows password prompt. Just the error. There are no access priveliges denied on the web server or on the firewall to this web server or directory. Does anyone know if this is a client-side or server-side issue, or if there is a way to fix this for my users? Thanks in advance for suggestions/solutions.     - Moving wwwroot Hi, If I move wwwroot out of InterPub to another drive and just update the websites home directories would that cause any unforeseen problems? My primary disk is getting a little full so I want to move all the websites to a 2nd drive that is on the server or perhaps even a network share.     - PUT method returns 501 error IIS 5 / Windows 2000 - PUT method returns 501 (Not Implemented) error. We are using URLScan to set IIS properties. We enable PUT with URLScan but still get 501 error. Directory permissions appear to be correct (write enabled). Documentation says server should return 501 if it does not understand or implement any of the content-* (e.g., Content-Range) headers. This may be related but we are unable to find info on IIS headers. Related clue. PUT was working on this server. Installed a 3rd party dll to enable uploading files using asp. The dll worked fine. It appears, however, that the PUT method stopped working after installation of this dll. Not sure if this is related, but it's about the only recent change done on the server. Thanks for any help.     - IIS6 works on LAN not on Internet Hello, I just replaced a NT4 server with a 2003 server and the two websites I am hosting off of it no longer work from the internet. If I am on my lan they work fine. computers on the lan use a local dns server that maps the website names to the lan ip address. Offsite using the internet I get a page cannot be displayed error. The IP address for both the Internet and lan are the same as the NT4 box. Other services, such as the e-mail server, are working fine. I don't think it is a DNS problem.     - SMTP doesn't send emails Pls help! I can't seem to send emails using the local SMTP Virtual Server that resides at the IIS 5 server. I thought CDO is simple. Would any lockdown like IISLockdown or other registry configuration prevented me from doing so. I tried so many options. I tried ASP... cannot. IE returned Access Denied. Another code returned Permission Denied.     - localhost barely ever responds I'm trying to set up a site. But my localhost doesn't respond most of the time. The only time it really reasponds is if I restart my computer or if I end the inetinfo.exe process (even then it only works a couple time before it stops responding). I can't access it when trying to create web projects on vb.net, dreamweaver or when trying to access it from my browser. I just keep getting a "Page cannot be displayed" Page.     - Perl in IIS 6.0 - File permissions? Hi, I followed the instructions in imbored.biz but am still getting the 'returning a complete set of HTTP headers' error. We use tight file permissions on our web server (i.e. anonymous and process account is denied to the whole system except for the web directories and some system files). I ran Filemone while I was running the .pl file and I noticed that perl.exe is getting Access Denied on accessing wsock32.dll in the windows\system32 folder.     - Excel Report stops converting currency At some point after running this report the "Wholesale Price" column data type in the excel spread sheet changes from Currency to General... It seems to ba around the 300th or so row but varies... This problem only occurs if the client is running Office XP.. And only in our production environment, not test or dev they are supposed to identical to prod but I doubt that for obvious reasons... Can someone tell me why, or give some suggestions as to things to look at.....???     - Having problems with IIS I just tried to view a page that I had earlier on my own personal web site and was not able to view it. I then tried just plain old localhost and was again not be able to view anything. I then tried to stop and re-start IIS.     - iis hangs on startup + windows shared section memory allocation Hi, I have a server with 2 1.4 GHz processors and 2 GB of RAM running Windows 2000 with Service Pack 3 (server name is THRUSH). I have installed Oracle Forms and Reports and I am trying to run 6 services out of this Oracle install. 2 for TEST, 2 for PROD, and 2 for TRAIN. I cannot get all 6 to run at the same time and I am not too sure why because I have the same environment set up on another server that has 1/2 the resources (this server name is WOLF). When I attempt to start the 6th service I get an error that the service could not start becuase it did not respond in a timely manner. However, I can get all 6 to run on THRUSH if I shutdown IIS but then it hangs on startup. Also I needed to increase the setting under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\SubSystems\Windows. I had to change Windows SharedSection=1024,3072,512 to Windows SharedSection=1024,3072,1024. I cannot get the 3rd value any higher then 1024 on THRUSH otherwise IIS hangs on the re-boot. Errors I see are: The IIS Admin Service service hung on starting. The FTP Publishing Service service depends on the IIS Admin Service service which failed to start because of the following error: After starting, the service hung in a start-pending state. The Simple Mail Transport Protocol (SMTP) service depends on the IIS Admin Service service which failed to start because of the following error: After starting, the service hung in a start-pending state. The World Wide Web Publishing Service service depends on the IIS Admin Service service which failed to start because of the following error: After starting, the service hung in a start-pending state. On the smaller server, WOLF, I can set this 3rd value to 2560 with no problem whatsoever. Is there a setting I am missing somewhere? Any help would be appreciated. Nice Brett,

I helped you to identify the cause of the error 'too many files opened for
sharing' might be caused by having too much virtual dirs on a share (or on a
SAN).
I would suggest to go over to IIS 6 because IIS 5 inherently has problems
with too much shares.
