    - SSL with IIS 6 and Microsoft Cert Server I have installed IIS 6 and MS Cert Server on a Windows 2003 server. When I access the site via SSL from the server my certificate seems fine. My internal and external domain name is xyzcompany.com. I don't get any error messages when I am on my IIS server and try to access http://www.xyzcompany.com , but when I access it from any client they all get the prompt: --- Security Alert The security certificate has been issued by a company you have chosen not to trust. View the certificate to determine whether you want to trust the certifying authority. --- If I view the certificate and go through the wizard to install it in the "Trusted Root Certificate Authorities" I will still get prompted every time I visit my secured web page. If I go back to my IE clients and check my installed certificate, my certificate from my IIS site is not under the TRCA group or any other group. I know that I can install certificates on my clients without a problem form other sites because I see a bunch of new ones from other CAs. I have tried this from Win2000, XP, and 98 clients and none of them seem to be able to just install this certificate.     - IIS 6 Backup existing websites im currently installing a new server and my old server is running iis6 i have approx 100 domains configured on it.     - XMLHTTP 401 Error I am not sure if this is the right group to post this. But can not find a better one. I have a VB6 client program sent HTTP request to my web server. The server is configured to require SSL and using Integrated Authentication (no anonymous). The program works fine for over 6-month now. Couple days ago, we have a new user he just keep getting 401 error and I have no clue what is the problem. All other users are still fine. Any suggestions? The user is on a wireless home network.     - Http Posting Issue Hello, We are performing an Http synchronous post using the msxml4.dll (sp2) on WinXP client machines to post information to a Windows 2003 server using asp. We have been very successful using this method and have had no issues with this configuration until recently. There are two issue that we are experiencing on various machines 1. Workstation will post but then hang and not return. 2. Workstation will post but return 3 - 3 1/2 minutes later with a message "The download of the specified resource has failed." On the server side in the IIS logs we see a corresponding http 400 entry with zero bytes sent and an sc-win32-status code of 64 which indicates (The specified network name is no longer available). We also know that these posts have been processed on the backend but fail to make it back to the client. I have to believe that this is a network related issue and am having trouble determining where to look. My questions are: I have read that Http 400 errors refer to a client side problem or network related issue. Is this true ? Could this condition occur under high volume or network staturation at the client site ? How can we go about debugging what the root cause is ?     - enable default content page (doesn't seem to work ?!?)     - WMI Script Error - No Such Interface Supported We are using iisapp.vbs (c:\windows\system32) to execute AppPool recycles via script. This works great on 14 of the 15 servers, but one server consistently fails with a "No such interface supported" error. Looking through the code, this is happening when we call the WMI .Recycle method of the newly instantiated AppPool object.     - IIS Cache Problems I have a customer who is having problems with his ASP pages serving a updated page when he makes updates to it. No other customers on the webserver have problems. To give a short example of the issue here is what happens: The page gets updated and when he clicks to view the updates he still sees the oringinal content. If he clicks on the refresh button then the updated content appears. I have been through many different articles on the Microsoft site dealing with Caching issues on IIS 6.0 and have had no luck with any. The only thing I can find that is almost exactly what is happening requires a phone call to get a hot fix. Has anyone ever used this and do you know if it will work, and is there a charge?     - IIS uninstall I uninstalled IIS from a Windows 2000 Server, as there was no need for IIS to be on it. Uninstall caused explorer.exe to stop, so desktop icons & taskbar disappeared. There were no other programs running during the uninstall, and I was able to go into Task Manager, New Task and start explorer, bringing the desktop back and the server is running fine, however I havn't rebooted. I've searched google for any clue as to what would cause this but coming up empty handed. Does anyone have an idea what happened?     - Anonymous remote database calls Prior to SP2 for XP our application was able to launch remote query to an access database through IIS in a non domain environment. Now all we get is 'Access Denied'. We've allowed all access permissions and have 'Execute includes Scripts' for application permissions. As far as security we have always used 'Intergrated Windows Authentication' on all the computers. Most if not all of our users logon with no passwords and all have Admin rights.     - Assigned IP address "disappeared" from IIS advanced web site identification config Hi, A couple of days ago i got a call from a user working from home that they couldn't get onto our intranet site. The machine runs 2 web sites in IIS - default web site where all the intranet stuff i built and things like our timesheet system all live in there as Virtual Directories, and the MS CRM website. Each has 2 IP addresses (one for the internet-facing NIC and one for the LAN NIC, it's dual-homed) and DNS records to suit. Everything had been working since I migrated to the new machine about a month ago. This morning I was looking at IIS and checked the IP address assignments. The IP address that the default website has was no longer in the "Multiple SSL identities for this web site" section of the "advanced web site identification" window. No-one but me has access to that machine and I certainly didn't change that. Anyone else noticed this on their machine (win2003 server)? Any ideas why? Is it Windows being "smart" and possibly removed it sometime the internet circuit was down here perhaps? I've seen Windows server do screwy things on dual-homed servers if it detects dropped packets on one interface, sometimes it starts rerouting replies coming in on that interface back out the other one which get dropped at the client... My suspicion is maybe IIS is similarly "smart" but I'd just like to hear if anyone else has seen this sort of behaviour. (big-5) However, when a user request to view a files with Chinese name, error 404 appears. Directory Browsing is enabled.     - Delegated administration for websites in IIS6 I spend an hour searching on Internet how to delegate administration tasks in IIS6 and have not found any viable solution. I did hacks with metabacl.exe to modify AdminACL but it did not do the trick, users still can not administer respective websites via MMC. I end up putting users in local Administrators group on server for them to administer website. While it might work for my case I'm not sure I understand how Microsoft positions IIS6 for ISPs where they would have to delegate IIS administration to users.     - Smart Host is not sending any authentication information. This seems like this should be easy but it is not working for me at all. I have configured on my Windows/2000 Professional the SMTP services. The intent is that outbound messages should go to my ISP for processing. So I added under the "Delivery" tab - under "Advanced" my Smart Host's IP address with the brackets "[]" and have cleared the "Attempt Direct Delivery before sending to Smart Host. Under the "Outbound Security" I selected "Basic authentication" and put in my user name and password for the ISP server. So what happens is my little SMTP server does indeed take the messages, makes a connnection to the "Smart Host". But does not send the authentication information. A short look at the SMTP event log shows the handshake but no indication of the userid or passwoard being sent. What happened? Is there some configuration point I am missing here?     - IIS is SLOW Hi, I am running the microsoft IIS on Windows 2000 Server. The site is very slow. I found out major slowness on IIS when I was trying to download some zip files that I have on out web site. They were in size about 10mb or 15mb. Connection to IIS site is by T1 and download side is connected with DSL . I was only able to download about 20 to 25kb / sec. but when I try to download a file form HP's web site I was downloading about 300mb / sec. There is a huge differece. Please help me out.     - Win2003 SP1 & FP Server Extensions I am running Windows 2003 Server and just recently applied SP1. Now, I can no longer "Administer" the FP extension. I can add/remove without a problem, but when I click the site name to administer it, I get the authentication dialog and then authentication fails. It was set up using the Admin account, but I get "You are not authorized to view this page". Prior to the upgrade this worked fine. I have search the KB, MSDN and TechNet and have not yet found a solution to this issue. I have even checked the list of changes and there is no mention of Front Page Server extensions. I am lost, and I need to get the extensions back up and running. There is no problem with IIS serving the pages.     - Authentication I am running some applications in IIS 6, and it is required that I use the client's credentials, thus negating the use of Anonymous Authentication. In my development environment, I am running IIS 5 and I can run the applications using Windows Integrated Authentication, but when I push the applications into production II 6, the only way I can get the applications to run is to use Digest Authentication, which prompts the client for login everytime a piece of information is retrieved.     - emails stuck in queue We are running Windows 2000 Server and one of our applications on the system generates email messages to be sent out to users. These emails are getting stuck in the queue and are not being sent out. The strange thing about it is that when we reboot the server whatever is in the queue is successfully sent out and then the system appears to work as it is suppose to for the next 24 - 36 hours and sends out messages normally. Then it suddenly stops sending messages out and they collect in the queue until the next server reboot. We have not been able to find anything in the logs indicating something is failing or to give any indication as to what is changing from when we reboot to when it stops working.     - Ampersand in url problem (running 2000 Advanced Server) Odd problem with ampersand in file name... When a file is being retrived from the W2k Adv Server it cannot find it (404 error). When I put the same file on a W2k "Regular" server it finds it just fine. We have checked all the settings in the webserver and they are both SP 4 same version.     - Weird Issue Between Test and Production Hello, I am having a strange issue between my Test environment and my Production environment. The problem is my site runs beautifully on Test and almost beautifully on Production. They are both the exact same machines, with the same memory, and same exact code and yet Production has some serious issues with controls not raising the "changed" events back on the server. It does or appears to do the Postback but my code in my changed event is not firing. It seems to only do it on a couple controls "radio" and "checkbox". It's like my event "wiring" is coming undone somehow. Is there some setting I'm missing on Production that would not allow these post backs to happen? When I set up Test I don't remember ever doing anything besides activating ASP.NET and ASP. Besides that the site came up fine. I did the same thing on Production when it went up and yet it isn't working right. Is there maybe some "diff" tool I can use to peek between the two?     - IIS 6.0 website slow thru port 80, 443 is fast I don't have much experience with Windows Server and IIS so I may have missed something real obvious. However, several days of searching the internet for a solution have been fruitless. (This is my 1st post on WebserverTalk.) A week ago we upgraded our web server from Windows Server 2000/IIS 5.0 to Server 2003/IIS 6.0. ASP pages with many calls to our webapp are very slow except when using SSL on port 443. The speed difference is at least a factor of 20. The webserver is behind a Cisco PIX515E with DMZ. The database is on our main Windows 2003 File Server (not in the DMZ with the Web Server). We did not have this problem until upgrading the Web Server to Server 2003/IIS 6.0. For example: http://www.pegasusautoracing.com/group.asp?GroupID=CLEARALL is slow. http://tinyurl.com/bln2b is fast.     - Getting all the sub directories in a virtual directory using C# HI, I am looking for a way to set "HTTPExpires" property on web folders using C#. Actually for all the virtual directories and their subfolders which are "included" in IIS metabase file, I am able to get their DirectoryEntry using DirectoryEntry.Children calls recursively (System.DirectoryServices) on which I can set the new property value. But there are folders which are visible through IISManager but they can't be retrieved as children of virtual directory entry when enumerated using DirectoryEntry.Children call. I need to alter the properties on these folders as well and so I am looking for a way to get a handle to their corresponding IIS (DirectoryEntry) object. If someone can point me to how IISManager retrieves these folders when listing installed websites, given that they are not written in IIS metabase file, then that can help me with getting these.     - Block an IP address from being logged in the log files Well, I have a network admin that is running this whatsup professional software and for some reason it is hammering our web server with more than 10,000 hits per month. I'd like to block this machines IP address from either the log files or from being reported on awstats.     - Ampersand in url problem running Advanced Server 2000 Odd problem with ampersand in file name... When a file is being retrived from the W2k Adv Server it cannot find it. When I put the same file on a W2k "Regular" server it finds it just fine. We have checked all the settings in the webserver and they are both SP 4 same version.     - COM Object Errors using IIS6 Hello, I am currently trying to migrate an asp site from one location to another, and one of the main differences is that the first box uses Visnetic WebSite on Win2k and the new box is Win2003 running IIS6. One of the issues I am having is with a 3rd party COM object we use to send info. It is a DLL in the sys32 directory. I have registered it correctly, and even used a tool they supply with it to successfully test connectivity. But when I reference it through any application that uses it, I get the following error message: Microsoft VBScript runtime error '800a0046' Permission denied: 'CreateContext' /testmerchant/testlink.asp, line 202 The object is declared in the global.asa file. Here is line 202: AuthContext = XXXLinkObject.CreateContext(CONTEXT_AUTH) I have tried almost everything in the book to try to get this to work. I have given the app pool access to Local System, I have given launch and access permissions to everyone for the object. Even the maker of the COM object has given up. I am almost to the point of having to drop back and punt, but I wanted to see if anyone here might have encountered a similar problem, and if they could suggest something that might work that I haven't tried or thought of.     - Odd IIS issue... We've got a 2k3 server running our intranet site. About once a week, the site becomes unavailable. I check the server, and there are no errors reported, nothing in the event logs, etc. All services are running at this time. To get the site back up, I restart the IIS service. This of course restarts the 5 sub services, and in about 20 seconds, the site is back up....     - Anonymous Access When Share Resides on a DC I've got IIS running to host sites using UNC paths pointing to a share on my Domain Controller. The sites work fine with the exception of granting anonymous access. IIS is using the local IUSR account to run, but obviously that doesn't exist on the DC, so I'm pretty sure that's the reason I'm being prompted for a Username/Password. I've tried using a domain account as the anonymous user account in IIS, but no luck. Is this possible to do? fine under default website. Now I get "You are not authorized to view this
page" when trying to go to my website. I can browse the page under the IIS
Manager so I have something wrong in permission but can't find the problem.

Here is what I checked for already"
1. the default web page is set correctly
2. the permissions for internet guest account (Iuser_MachineName) is set
