    - Auto Disconnect lost Using XP with SP2 and IE 6 as well as OE6. I have checked the "Disable connection if no longer needed" box in both programs. When I close either IE and/or OE, the connection does not disconnect, nor do I get the box asking If I wish to disconnect. My virus program is set to update every 7 days, so that is not running. Don't believe I have any other updates that might be trying to run. The Microsoft knowledge base does not address this issue with XP nor IE6 or OE6. The only suggestions I found on a related link said to make changes in the registry. by making changes in DWORDS under EnableAutodisconnect. Found where this should be, but it isn't there. Only binary files are there. Dialup modem service is the only available option that I have. What can I do to get back this option? Used to have Norton AV which would mess it up occasionally but have uninstalled it as much as the program would allow in the usual ways.     - Seeking Recommendations for webserver/site support service We are in need of someone to diagnose a nagging problem we've been experiencing with our website over the pass few months that has been getting worse. The site runs on a dedicated Windows 2000 server (IIS 5.0), and is exclusively ASP. The problem is the HTTP service has been having intermittent outages (other services remain OK); a vast majority of the time these outages occur in the night time hours. An outage last anywhere from a few minutes to hours. Anyway, if any of you could recommend someone with the expertise to monitor, diagnose, and fix (or propose a fix for) this problem, it would be greatly appreciated.     - IIS 6.0 SSL Certificate Difficulties Hello - I am a having problem installing a certificate in W2K3 IIS 6.0. The certificate authority is running on W2K SP4. I have tried removing and adding the certificate multiple times, both using the IIS wizard and the Certificates snap-in. I have also tried creating the request on a W2K server using the W2K3 DNS name, installing it, exporting it with the private key and then installing that on the W2K3 server. All of these action produce the same result, a "Cannot find server or DNS Error" page. I have verified that Administrators and SYSTEM have full control, propagated downwards on the \All Users\Application Data\Microsoft\Crypto \RSA\Machine Keys directory.     - Bizarre IIS 6.0 mixing page content from other sites together ! We just upgraded from Windows 2000 Server to 2003 Server last weekend. Now I have a bizarre problem with a site containing strictly static HTML page content. At the bottoms of some pages, I get what looks like the tail end of pages of other websites hosted on the same server. When I scroll to the bottoms of the pages I will see text from a completely different website that is being hosted on the same server. That other website's content is a static HTML page as well. It's sort of like a strange "buffer overflow" situation -- but IISRESET doesn't help and the *same* other website content appears on the *same* pages in this site, so it doesn't seem to be a random whatever's-in-the-buffer-gets-displayed type of thing... If I simply go in and edit the "broken" .html page and enter a blank line or anything to effect a change to the file, and resave the page, the problem goes away! -- Paul Tag: IIS Dump Tag: 348664

    - Surprising error in PFN_HSE_IO_COMPLETION Function In my ISAPI dll, my PFN_HSE_IO_COMPLETION callback function is occasionally called with dwError (the 4th) parameter set to 64 (ERROR_NETNAME_DELETED) or 121 (ERROR_SEM_TIMEOUT). According to the VC7 help, ERROR_NETNAME_DELETED can happen if the HSE_REQ_CLOSE_CONNECTION function of ServerSupportFunction is called. I'm never doing that though, and ERROR_SEM_TIMEOUT is still a mystery. Just in case it's relevant, GetLastError() returns 1008 (ERROR_NO_TOKEN) Here's my program flow: Receive call to HttpExtensionProc Call ServerSupportFunction(..., HSE_REQ_IO_COMPLETION, ...) Return HSE_STATUS_PENDING Make many calls to WriteClient(..., HSE_IO_ASYNC) being careful to wait each time for my callback to be called before issuing the next WriteClient. After the last WriteClientCall has had its callback, I call ServerSupportFunction(..., HSE_REQ_DONE_WITH_SESSION, ...) Never touch that ECB again. Of course, there are many ECBs open at any one time, about 100 currently but will get into the thousands as this project gets more mature. Is it OK to call ServerSupportFunction(..., HSE_REQ_IO_COMPLETION, ...) for each request, and if not, could that be causing the ERROR_NETNAME_DELETED and / or ERROR_SEM_TIMEOUT errors I'm seeing?     - IIS 6.0 + Alias I have just recently moved a web site location from my C drive to my D drive. My defualt website still points to C drive. So I made a virtual directory pointing to the new location. I had several problems earlier this morning with web authoring as well as ghost subwebs appearing in Front Page 2002 extensions administration. I used Check Server Health option and after a few run throughs the ghosts were removed. I had removed the virtual directory because I was trying to get something to work and now when I try to add the virtual directory again IIS says I must use a unique Alias, even though the one I want to use does not show up anywhere in administration or the snap-in. I have tried editing out any mention of the site in my metabase.xml and restarted IIS but that did not work. Any suggestions?     - SMTP Endless Loop I've got a bit of code that generates an email and sends it out when a user completes a form. This morning it started spewing out an infinite loop of emails. I altered the form to make sure it's only sending out one message, and it is: ' .Send Response.Write "To: " & .To : Response.Flush It's only sending it out once from the ASP page, so apparently the problem is with my SMTP service (which is IIS6). It's up to 5000 messages off one submit so far, and it shows no intention of stopping. I've even rebooted the box, and as soon as I enable SMTP it starts filling up the Queue folder. Right now I've got SMTP disabled. Is there any way to REALLY flush out the SMTP, so it clears out all items? I assumed clearing the queue would do it, but as I said it keeps coming back. What is happening is when I go to http://127.0.0.1/iisadmin it lets me log in as normal, but when clicking on folders, trying to view properties, etc. it will not pop up any of the dialogues (for adjusting properties).     - Intranet security question Sorry, newbie at this here goes. I have an iis server setup on a W2k server my router reouts port 80 to that server for outside access. - works fine. I have one small web site set up that I want outsiders to access but I have to have another site that can only be accesses by users on the inside netwok, private adresses from 192.168.1.2 to 192.168.1.254. I created another folder under the inetpub folder called intranet but I can't seem to find a way to limit access to it to only those users in the private Ip address range. How can I do this?     - IIS 4 Hi, We have been running a Windows NT 4 (SP5) Server with IIS to run our Intranet for sometime. However, we are trying to delete no longer required files from our site. We receive a Sharing Violation error when trying to delete the files. We can edit and save the files no problems, just can't remove them.     - CGI XPSP2 IIS5.1 - can't write a local file from CGI .exe I am trying to use a CGI .exe program that needs to write a graphics file to a local directory, such as images. Trying to open the file for writing fails. I wrote a simple test program that verifies the behavior. I suspect that it is a permissions issue, since I can open a file for reading from the same directory in my test program. I have set the permissions on the images directory to read and write.     - HTTPS implementation in IIS (self signed certificates usage) Hi there, We have a scanerio where the clients will be communicating to the server in this way. We have Java keytool generated self signed certificates lying in the internet with the devices. When the HTTPS requests come to the server we need to resolve the private keys sent by the clients (they have already been certified by our older installation in Tomcat). So the scanerio is that all the devices which were communicating with the Tomcat server has to be now thro IIS. From IIS we will use J2K connectors to establish ISAPI filter to communicate with the Tomcat Servlet container. The reason for this deployment is to have IIS as our web server and certificate authenticator. Is this possible. If so can anyone help us in giving the right approach for it.     - ASP caching - why site changes don't appear to users? On Windows 2003 Server -- I make changes to website .asp pages on disk, but changes do not show up to the users' browsers until I stop and start IIS. I see in the Master WWW properties I can turn off ASP caching completely and this seems to fix the cache problem, but then I take a performance hit.... Is there a way to tell IIS to intelligently cache .asp pages so when they are changed on disk, the cache buffer is updated properly? The .asp pages in question are very simple, they only have an #include directive at top and bottom for .htm headers and footers. No other "code" is to be compiled in these pages... Thanks.     - IIS 5.0 and Front Page Server Extensions 2000 I have a domain foo.com and several hundred subwebs like foo.com/user1, foo.com/user2 etc... and they all have different permissions for publishing to. I recently saw that the NETWORK account was in many directories and not just set to list folder contents. Some /userx folders had NETWORK set to FULL CONTROL and users were not getting prompted for user/pass/domain when they published remotely to their /userx subweb. I ran xcacl and removed all of NETWORK out of the whole WWWROOT and everything below it and now, no one can use their NTFS user and pass to publish. I have even recreated subwebs foo.com/test1 and created new users in AD and it still does not work. Nothing shows up in event viewer or anyplace. One thing I do notice is that when I create a new site, the event log says...Microsoft FrontPage Server Extensions: Error #e002c Message: Cannot read or set the permissions for file, d:\inetpub\wwwroot\foo\test1\_vti_bin: initializing the SD failed.     - Accessing intranet site externally for editing I have an intranet site sitting on a Windows 2000 Server box, running IIS 4.0 with FrontPage Server extensions. I am able to access and edit it internally just fine. However when I access it externally by going to http://intranet.domainsname.com and bring up Frontpage to edit it, it gives me the error message: "The specified file or website does not exist" Any thoughts on this?     - Localhost asks for password? This is very odd. Tried installing FPSE 2002 (without uninstalling FPSE 2000 first), but reverted back to FPSE 200 because of the below issue: Opening localhost in FP or a browser asks me for a username and password. It's a single machine, only 1 admin (me) and the name of the computer and what I log into XP Pro with don't work. Unfortunately, even after removing FPSE 2002, the problem still persists. I have uninstalled both FP and IIS, and then re-installed them, only to find the same thing. Is this an XP issue, or an IIS one ? Why am I being asked for a password to my own site ? HELP !     - Cannot see files in FrontPage I'm using Windows 2000 sp4, FPSE02. Just recently when I go to create a link by clicking on the link button, I cannot see the folders or files on the web site, unless the files are open. And, when I try to save a file, I cannot see the folders. I can see the folders in the folder view. I've seen this issue posted in other user groups, but no resolution. Any ideas? When I try to add the share using Network Wizard, it asks for the Login info, and it keeps asking for it, again and again, no error. We tried with the WebDAV link you sent, which is basically what we're doing, and we got exactly the same, once we type the URL into the network wizard, the login screen pops up, but no matter what user/pass I enter, it doesn't go through, the login screen keeps coming up thanks!     - ISAP filter in IIS 5 and IIS6, error message When I manage an IIS 5 or IIS 6 site, I get an error message, "unexpected error 0x800cc801 occurred" when i click on the ISAP filter tab.     - Anyone can solve my problem related to IIS6 Hello Everyone, I facing bad problem with IIS6. We are basically in software consulting type firm. Previously we was using windows 2000 advance server that time and it's for test enviourment and other machines also place into test enviourment not connected to internet. My windows 2k server is IIS and dns i created multiple web sites on that and created forward and reversse lookup according to web sites domain name. I put my this server ip address to client machine as dns and gateway so when i ping to domain web sites its pinging and i can access web sites and testing it. But now I upgrade that server to Windows 2003 ent server and i make it as dns and web server as like previous. And i did this windows 2k3 installation like first formating and then installed. Now I facing one problem that I created forward lookup and reverse lookup zone according to web sites domain name ok its ok and I ping from client system its pinging all domain related to sites. When i going to create web sites then I facing problem that i cann't create more that one web sites if going to create second web site, after wizard complete of second web site then its showing in stop mode of that sites and when I click on that site and say start its giving me error that port are using by one site so please change port number. Can anyone tell me why its happening? I used in windows 2000 that time its not giving me like prot conflict with other site. Its really stupid thing with playign with microsoft product. Please give me solution how to solve this problem how to host multiple web site on IIS6 using port 80 and with same ip. Please use the IIS Administration Tool to reconfigure your server to run the application in a separate process. The SharePoint Administration Site is now Blank. VS .NET 2003: Everything compiles fine, but when I try to run a Web App, I get an error that says itâ??s unable to start server side debugging, and to start using Debug.Start Without Debugging.     - webdav + virtual directories It seems that it cant be done. I am trying to setup webdav on a win2k server. The problem is that the directory is on a network drive, so when the user authenticates to iis everything is fine, but then iis authenticates to the network drive with the supplied credentials in the iis properties, and all effective ntfs permission that the original user that logged in with are lost becuase it will use the iis suplied credentials to authenticate. Is there a way around this? I want iis to use the credentials supplied by the user at the time of login to authenticate to the network drive. Hi,

I have problems with our IIS servers, CPU time is being eat'n away.

When doing a IISDump, there is 250 connections looking like this.

Item# 1, UL_NATIVE_REQUEST = DC3CE8
Request State: 0 (NREQ_STATE_START)
** Request is complete.

Anyone know what type of connection that is?
and could it cause the processor usage?

I'd be more interested in seeing which threads were taking most of the CPU
time. Then let's see the top threads stack...
Use Perfmon to get the thread data for the inetinfo and dllhost processes...
