 - IIS redirection I have a CGI exe on IIS server, users can use this CGI by using this address: http://...../CGIData.exe Now my question is how can I make the CGIdata.exe is not visible to the users, I mean users can use the following address: hrrp://..../CGIData.html Note html not exe. If I used redirection in IIS, the users will be able to use the html page instead of .exe, but after that the browser will show them the .exe address. How can I do this without redirection.  - restoring default website, owa The box that has Exchange 2003 installed on it has had all websites deleted--the default, as well as anything Exchange created for OWA. The two Exchange app pools are intact (ExchangeApplicationPool and ExchangeMobileBrowseApplicationPool). What's the easiest way to recreate the deleted default and OWA websites?  - php+mysql woes when installing script.... Hi Folks, I am running php, MySQL with IIS5. The problem is that I am trying to install a php script called phpNewsletter (http://gregory.kokanosky.free.fr/v4/phpmynewsletter/index.en.html). I have iis, php and mysql installed. The trouble starts when I extract the php scripts and point my browser at http://localhost/pmnl/install.php. I get an error in the browser (IE6) : Fatal error: Call to undefined function MYSQL_ERROR() in c:\Inetpub\wwwroot\pmnl\include\lang\english.php on line 199 Now if I go to lines 196-201 the following code is present: "ERROR_DBCONNECT_CORE" => "Unable to connect to the Database. ". "<ul><li>Check that password used to connect to the database is correct.</li>". "<li>Check that your database server is up and running.</li></ul>". (MYSQL_ERROR() ? "The following error message can help you : ".MYSQL_ERROR() : "") ." <a href=\"http://gregory.kokanosky.free.fr/v4/phpmynewsletter/docs/\">Documentation</a> section on /phpMyNewsletter /website.", with the line that starts with (MYSQL_ERROR() being the one that is causing the problem.  - multiple websites, multiple servers, and nat All inbound port 80 traffic through a NAT router is sent to a private IP on a machine with IIS6. I can then use host-header discrimination to send requests to (let's say) any one of four sites on that server. But is it possible to host two of those four sites on another IIS6 server? That is, if the first server is 192.168.0.10 (forwarded all port 80 traffic from the router) and the second is 192.168.0.11, I'd like IIS on .10 to direct host-header-a and host-header-b traffic to sites hosted on .10 and host-header-c and host-header-d traffic to sites hosted on .11.  - Help with Internet Explorer Hello I have been downloading from web sites for the past month, starting three days ago everytime I tried to download anything (to include Windows updates) I get this error message "Internet Explorer was unable to download.  - displaying physical and virtual paths I've managed to get a list of the physical and virtual directories from w/in IIS 6. What I need is a way to also print out the paths of these physical and virtual directories.  - ASP.NET Applications don't run correctly every few hours. Hi all. My company runs a windows 2003 web edition to host several websites. We have some classic asp files and php fiies on the server and uses MySql as a database. All static websites and php sites have been working fine, but some of asp.net web applications haven't. I often see error message poping up saying IIS Worker Proess encountered a problem and needed to close. Also in the event log there are a lot of errors on COM+ and Application Error. The event description says: The system has called a custom component and that component has failed and generated an exception. This indicates a problem with the custom component. Notifiy the developer of this component that a failure has occurred and provide them with the informtion below.  - ISS: What is my User name and Password Hi, I just installed IIS and placed my website into the C:\Inetpub\wwwroot folder. Now I can't access it? I did not create a User name or Password so I don't know why I am being promted for one. When I try to access http://localhost/mywebsite , i get HTTP 401.1 - Unauthorized: Logon Failed. I cant even go to http://localhost/ with out getting the user and pass prompt? Anyone know how I can get ride of this. What a pain. How am I not authorized to view this?  - "interface not registered" IIS 6 manager XP Sp2 I'm getting an "interface not registered" error in the snapin for IIS 6 (admin pack) on XP sp2.. I saw one article about reinstalling or installing the 5.1 snapin etc.. then reinstalling the 6.0 pack.. but this didnt fix the error.. Any other ideas out there??  - HTTP header immediate expiration and Page_Load in asp.net I've set my aspx page to expire immediately using the management console, HTTP headers tab. Considering this scenario: a user visits the aspx page in question, then moves to another page, then hits the Back button to return to the page in question.  - Wildcard extension mappings are NOT better than raw data filters... Okay, so I have a raw data filter that I'm trying to port over to IIS 6. I'm going with the recommended wildcard extension rather than a filter this time. Problem: When ssinc processes includes, my wildcard extension doesn't get called for the included files. Now I know what you're thinking... "How picky can you be? Your extension will get called BEFORE ssinc, so you can do whatever you want, right?" Well, not exactly. What I WANT is to be able to act on each included file in turn before ssinc tries to spit it out to the browser. In a good ol' raw data filter, I could just subscribe to url map notifications and I could act on each path before ssinc got its grubby little hands on it. As it is, I'm stuck having to parse the file(s) myself (recursively, I might add) looking for server side includes before I ever even pass the request off to ssinc using HSE_REQ_EXEC_URL. Now I realize that this is a feature, not bug. That's just how it works. I understand that I'm probably the only person in the world who cares about this. But in the remote case that I'm not, is there anyone out there who knows a nifty way for me to be able to act on the paths as ssinc gets to them (in an extension, not a filter mind you) rather than doing all the parsing myself.  - IIS 6 Manager Security Rights (only via administrators group?) Hi all, Here is my situation.. I have a user who is just a member of a group called Developers, he has local admin rights to his workstation, but no server admin access.. I want him to be able to use the IIS 6 snapin in XP to administer IIS on a server. So when he goes to add that computer to his snapin.. naturally it gives him the "denied access to this machine" error. Is there some way short of adding him to the administrators group on that server, that he can have rights to administer certain web sites on IIS on that server?  - How to use local time in logs? I have installed a new W2003 SP1 with IIS. Everything is at it default in IIS. We then created a couple of Virtual directory under the "Default Wet Site". Logging is enabled on "Default Wet Site" with its default settings. I have check the checkbox which says "Use local time for file naming and rollover" under logging properties. However all the time stamps for all the event in the log are +7 hours off. My local time is PST and I'd like to have a time stamp based on the local time. Any idea?  - Is there a way to prompt user for username and password like window authentication? thanks! When a user send a request to my website, is there a way I can send back a response so user will have a prompt window where they can type in their username and password? just like the one IIS provide when you don't have permission to access a site.  - Multiple Website on a single server I have IIS setup. Server 2003 SP1. I have 3 seperate websites I would like to make accessable via the web. I have assigned 3 static IP addresses to my NIC and have pointed the home directories to the individual sites and assigned them thier own static IP with port 80.  - Problem with profile of Network Service User Hi, I installed a Win2k3 server, and after beeing installed (not in time of installation) I changed regional settings to spanish (date, tc..), both current user (administrator) and default user. Now, I'm running an application in IIS in this server, that is running with the default App. Pool. This app. pool is using Network Service as Identity user. SO, when I show in my asp pages a date, the date is showed in english. If I change the default app user to a new user whose profile was created AFTER I changed the default regional settings, the asp pages shows the dates in spanish.  - How sharepoint web site is invoked? Hi I have a Windows Server 2003 with sharepoint service installed and running perfectly. I enter the sharepoint web site simply by typing http://myserver and then the page http://myserver/default.aspx is opened in IE. I assume it is just like ordinary web site where default.aspx is located in the base directory of the default web site. However, when I open IIS Manager, I found that the base directory only contains 3 files (iisstart.htm, pagerror.gif and web.config).  - Need to share data asynchronously between ASP.NET and Legacy Syste Hello: I am using ASP.NET as our front end. I also have to interface to some legacy systems that use a callback mechanism. The legacy systems use callbacks (via CORBA) to communicate back to clients. The ASP.NET web pages will initiate communication with the legacy backend, but results from the backend will often take quite some time and will be asynchronous in nature in their return. We have successfully created a prototype that integrates .NET and ASP.NET with the CORBA backend using the IONA Artix product. Its works very nicely and is fully based on Web Services and is transport agnostic. I want to take this prototype and create an application, or separate thread in IIS that can access the legacy systems, handle the callbacks, and store the results of the callbacks so that subsequent requests can access the data, or client based applets or J# Browser Controls on the client can listen for the data. I am looking for a method to share data between the standard ASP.NET HTTP pipeline and this â??legacy handling threadâ??, or application. Things that come to mind is the ASP.NET cache, application state, or some other state mechanism. The issue is this is really not state, but data that is returned from the asynchronous callbacks. I have looked into to IHTTPAsyncHandler but it looks like that mechanism really exists to offload the CLR threadpool so more requests can be handled (makes perfect sense). What I need is a thread running that is not associated with any specific request. This thread should run in the IIS process space, but needs to share data with requests. This is somewhat like what the Shared Property Manager did in MTS. The ultimate goal would be to implement the Observer pattern. That is, a request can execute a synchronous method and register for some work to be done asynchronously by the back end system. Then the browser clients would be notified when the work has completed. Things that come to mind here are applets and web services. Any suggestions here would be greatly appreciated.  - DFS Question Dear All -- I have an IIS webserver sitting in a DMZ. It is not a domain member. I have a ton of files sitting locally on that box (like 50 gigs). I want to redirect requests for these files to a member server on my domain in my internal network which has another copy of those files (don't ask why we do it this way now). I can do this by creating a virtual directory on the IIS box and pointing it to "a share located on another computer." I then create a local account on the IIS box and another local account with the same name on the member server internally, and synch the passwords. I point the share to \\server.fqdn.com\sharename, tell IIS to use that account to access the files, and the requests pass through OK. However, for redundancy and load-balancing purposes I would like to tell IIS to actually use a DFS share on the domain. IIS complains about the DFS name (in the format of \\domain.com\dfsroot\sharename) not being a valid UNC name and won't recognize it. Has anybody been able to get DFS to work with an IIS virtual directory like this? I have assigned proper ntfs permission for users who can read, write, delete and list folders/files on the virtual directory. When I tried accessing the virual directory via web folder, I seem to be able to do all the above except deleting files/folder. I then look at the web permission and found that there is not delete function on individual web/virtual folder. Can someone tell me if this is designed that way or I am missing something.  - IIS PHP using different php.ini files I'm running IIS 6 unders windows 2003. I am trying to run php on 2 websites but they each need different configuration settings hence I need php to use different php.ini files for each website. I have found posts that suggest that if you put a php.ini file in the directory of the website it will use it. So i have done so. each site has its own php.ini in the root directory of the website. There exists no other php.ini files except for the 2 directories. But when I start iis neither site uses the php.ini file in the directory. In fact it doesn't use any php.ini file.  - global.asa and global.asax I have windows 2003 server running with IIS5 and I have enabled to use asp and asp.net. What I am trying to do is this. I have a page from server1, lets say it's http://www.server1.com/searches/results.asp or http://www.server1.com/searches/results.aspx, depending whether I use asp or asp.net. on server1, the member has already logged in and did a search for a image file. this page shows search results and differents images people can download. and for each result you can download an image. You can either download one or how mnay images you want that are on the search results page. I am using http://www.informatik.com/tiffdll.html to merge images if they chose more than one image to download. the images however are one server2 in the http://www.server2.com/images/download directory. and in the download directory there subfolders for the different types of image files. I would like to set something up where the server2 would only let members download from the server 1 link in the downloads directory. I have read some on http_HTTP_REFERER but that's not always 100%, Can someone please lead me the right way, should I be using global.asa or global.asax????  - Services.exe using high memory I have a Windows 2000 Server box (IIS 5) with 2GB RAM. It hosts 5 FTP sites (all of them with very light traffic), 1 Asp.net site (with about 10K hits per day), and 3 custom .Net windows services written in C#. Every few days, the FTP sites quit functioning. The box was rebooted yesterday, and it has been up for about 24hrs straight right now, and in task manager it shows that the two biggest memory users are services.exe with 116MB used, and aspnet_wp.exe with 93 MB used. It seems to me that services.exe may be leaking memory. Does that figure sound high to anyone else? Maybe the custom .net windows services have some problems. I also have a Windows Server 2003 box (IIS 6) with 40 sites or so, and services.exe on that box is only using 16 MB! Any ideas?  - User domain is wrong Hi All, I have a problem with windows integrated authentication. This is how I want it to work: The user log in att his computer at the office, then opens Internet Explorer and goes to our SAP Portal and get logged in witht the same domain/username as when he logged in on the domain on his computer. Now, this works fine for everyone except for one user. He logs on his computer as everyone else. But when he opens his browser and gets to the Portal he gets prompted for username and password. When I check the log file on the IIS he gets logged as serverdomain/guest instead of domain_he_logged_in_on/username. Does anyone here know how to solve this? Another user had the same problem before, but he solved it by changing the setting to username/password and then logged in with domain/username and password, the changed back to windows integrated authentication and since then everything has worked for him. Of course I could do that for the current user too, but I'd like to understand what the problem is and how to solve that. My server currently has two drive configurations Raid-1 and Raid-5. I have placed the OS in the Raid-1 configuration and will place IIS on the Raid-5 configuration. I will install IIS using a Unattended type installation, this way i can place the Inetpub in a location of my choosing. I want to keep the OS isolated from all applications.  - Unreasonably slow performance posting files to IIS I have a Web Service with a method that handles file uploads. The file is sent as a DIME attachment to the SOAP request. The post is successful, the file is received and the correct response is sent back to the client. The problem is that this is UNBELIEVEABLY slow! My last tests were with a 4MB file. The tests took between 30 and 40 seconds total. The web service code finished its work in 750-790 milliseconds. When monitoring the network interface the full 4MB of data were received in 1-2 seconds. The same is true when monitoring bytes received on the web service application. This would led me to the conclusion that a 4 MB post should take no more than 4 seconds to handle. Between the 1-2 seconds for the data to be received and the 790 millisecond code execution there is NO data received by the webservice and there is NO CPU use exept for what is normal when idle. My question is: why? And what can be done to deal with this? I have heard that this is an issue with newer versions of IIS caused by a built in delay when receiving large amounts of data in a single request, and that this is a non-configurable feature to limit the effects of attackers posting large amounts of data to "block" the server.  - IIS permissions denied - folder read only and won't change Hi, I have an Intranet site that is being displayed okay for users who need to access it for information. However, those who need to update it cannot do so. It gives permision denied, when they either try to create a folder of or page directly into a folder, or when they try to publish in FrontPage 2003, they get: "Server error: The Server Extensions were unable to access the file "...._vti_pvt\service.lck". Please check file permissions" As far as I see the users belong to the group that has been granted modify permssions to the folders. Yet, when I look at permissions in Explorer on the Server itself, on the general tab, the Attributes, Read Only is ticked. It is greyed out, but I can untick it and it seems to apply the changes. Yet, when I look at it again it has been set back to Read Only. So, I'm assuming something is doing this and that is what is denying the users access to the folders? In case it's relevant the whole of this site was copied across from an old NT 4 box that was running IIS 4 (I think) What am I missing here? I have just set up a Windows 2003 FTP server.
I need to allow our users to list the contents of and upload to a folder but
not download or open any of the files.
There does not seem to be an easy way to do this.
Has anyone found a way to do this?

I was hoping to allow users to view contents also.
However if this is not possible then blind would be okay.

Mm.. you have to do more tweaking with the ntfs permissions (advanced tab)
Generally, list folder content need READ permissions, try play around with
List folder / Read data ...
enable it at folder but not file ..... test it out.. just some idea. if
not, go with blind drop.
