    - Moving Intranet to a new server I have to move the internal website from an old Win2k server to a new one. I have installed IiS on the new server but i'm getting the following error, when i try to open IIS. MMC Snap-In failed to initiate Name: -not available_ CLSID: {A841B6C2 - 7577 - 11D0 - BB1F - 00A0C922E79C} I found a fix for this problem in the knowledge base but it was only for win2k3 servers. I tried it any way and had no luck. Also any specifics on how to most easily make this move would be greatly appreciated. I have no experience with IIS and websites.     - Empty applicationHost.config in Vista Home Premium Hello, I don't know what's caused it, but I tried to run some tests on my dev machine (a Vista Home Premium machine), and couldn't make IIS serve anything (not even an error message). When I went to inetmgr I got a n 'Element not found' exception when I tried to check the application pools or the web sites branches...I then opened the applicationHost.config file to see that it was empty (well, 53Kb of 0 bytes to be exact). Trying to deinstall IIS and reinstall, gives me an error, so I don't know how to recover from this...anywhere I can get a default applicationHost.config file?     - Multiple websites sharing ssl port 443 I have a Default Site with port 443 for SSL. If I have a secondary web site, that uses both 80 and 443 (the same ports) but with a different header name, when starting this site I get an error telling that port 443 is already in use, and that I should assign a diffent number.     - moving to a new pc problems Hi, Not sure if this is the correct group but here goes, I'm in the process of moving over to a new pc and when I try and set my IIS and view a C# asmx file on it I am getting an error, 'Failed to access IIS metabase'. I know the file is ok as it is working on my old pc without any problems. Also when I try and view it through IE on my old PC then I am also getting an error, 'A name was started with an invalid character .' Any one got any ideas, on what I'm forgetting to do? Domain account is used to connect to SQL server using integrated security. user@domain.com is a member of the local IIS_WPG Group Problem: Every 29 hours (default application pool recycle time 1740 mins) I get the following DCOM error Event Type: Error Event Source: DCOM Event Category: None Event ID: 10016 Date: 24/09/2007 Time: 01:37:52 User: DOMAIN-NAME\APPLICATION POOL IDENTITY Computer: SERVER-NAME Description: The application-specific permission settings do not grant Local Activation permission for the COM Server application with CLSID {61738644-F196-11D0-9953-00C04FD919C1} to the user DOMAIN-NAME\APPLICATION POOL IDENTITY SID (DOMAIN-NAME\APPLICATION POOL IDENTITY SID).     - framework version confusion Hi Hope someone can offer some input on this... Running IIS6 with both ASP.NET 1.1 and 2.0 applications. Naturally everything is seperated out by application pool. When I run this script: http://blog.crowe.co.nz/archive/2006/08/15/676.aspx It warns me that one of my app pools (the one used by reporting services) is using multiple versions of the framework. However - all that app pool contains is the RS web site, and it's two virtual directories. I have checked them in IIS Manager and they all say v1.1.4332. Any idea why that should be? Is the VBScript simply wrong? Or do I have some metabase issue or something? Everything is pretty much working as it should be, however we are getting intermittent errors on our SharePoint portals (about ASP 2, which they do not use). We used to get these errors all the time, and it was caused by a ASP 2 application trying to load in an ASP 1 application pool. Yesterday I started up our report server for the first time in ages and boom, all of a sudden I start getting reports of these errors returning. Wonder if anyone can offer some insight of what might be going on? Also - as a follow up question - in the "Properties" when I click on "Web Sites" in IIS, the default ASP.NET version is 1.1.4322. However I see the ASP.NET_2.0.50727.0 ISAPI filter loaded here. Is that normal? Does this filter get executed in front of the ones on my actual web sites?     - High Isolated Permission level in IIS 5.0 Hi, I made my application in IIS as High(Isolated). In component services the application is running under the default account IWAM_ComputerName as we know. I need to change the account to a custom account. I did through the property box "identity" tab in component services and configured my custom account for my application. But again i am not able to access the database through the application while i can access the application. The account i am using have required access to the database also. Did i missed out something? What i can find the user id is passed as null to the database while connecting it and i am not specifying any account info in connection string as i am using Integrated Security=SSPI in connection string.     - Event ID: 1309 Since few days ago we're having a bizarre error. In an ASPX page (ASP.NET 2.0 - C#) we have a JavaScript error: "'WebForm_PostBackOptions' is undefined". Researching, we found this happens only if the applicacion is reached by the public URL (WAN). If we try to reach the app through the internal URL (LAN), the error doesn't take place. Trying to reach the root of the problem, we saw that the web server throws a warning (Event ID: 1309 - Padding is invalid and cannot be removed. {This could be related with WebResource.axd file}) when the page is loaded, and a postback is forced, the JavaScript error take place. THIS DOESN'T ENDS THERE. Still trying to reach the source, we found that the Event Viewer of the ISA Server 2004 (SP4), every time that the Web Server throws the warning, the ISA Server throws another warning (Event ID: 23002 - Isa Server was unable to process a response body from [url] because the response was compressed by teh x-compress method, which is not supported by ISA Server.). Thie JavaScript error isn't a simple little mistake, it seems to generate a lost of session variables. The unique clue we have is that it could be related with web.config tag machineKey. We change this tag in all the possible ways and it still fails. Last item: the applicacion takes a cookie generated by an ASP.NET 1.1 application (with whom shares the same machineKey data).     - Security problems in non domain environment This is a little off topic but I am finding security in a non domain environment totally mystifying Can anyone help me. I work in a workgroup environment as opposed to domain controlled. The minute I do anything with reporting services or analysis services that is between machines I get problems. Can anyone give me an overview of how credentials are passed in a non domain environment. I am using a reportviewer control to access reporting services and I can access the remote server by passing network credentials but my report fails if it is using Analysis Services. I can't deploy to SSAS or SSRS from my machine unless I log into my machine with a username and account that is the same as the machine being deployed to. How do I tell BIDS what credentials to use.     - FTP Log I am using MSUtil.LogQueryClass to read the FTP log file (....\WINDOWS\system32\LogFiles\MSFTPSVC1\). It's working fine until last week. I started getting this error message.     - I have the need for Multiple Clusters using only 2 servers. Possib I was asked by managment to find a solution to a problem. We run a web application and are moving towards SSL and I was asked to create a "Multiple Cluster Web Server environment. the reason being to battle a SSL and non-host header issue. I currently run a NLB cluster with Multiple External IP's that point to the NLB IP address. This works fine. Right now I have two window 2k3 server-Web edition serves, dual nic's, 3 external IP addresses, 3 sites needing to use SSL/non-host headers.     - File access using http on IIS6 (error 404) We have recently upgraded a web server to 2003 server and IIS6 (from 2000 server and IIS5). We were having problems with people managing to download files on the server using http. Before the change we were able to access all file types with no problems. Afterwards certain types did not work (.kb3 and .sql), whereas others did (.csv, .txt, .doc, .ppt etc). Having trawled through usenet we couldn't find a solution, but managed to work out that IIS6 was blocking all file types which were not known to the server itself, whereas previously IIS5 simply let these files through with no problem at all, on the assumption that the client machine would know what to do with them. This is another case of IIS5 being relaxed about security by default, and IIS6 being the exact opposite by default. All we had to do was add the file extensions which did not work as MIME file types to the relevant virtual directory / website in IIS6. It was interesting to note that changing the settings in the default web site had not effect; we had to change them on the actual site itself. For those of us who are relatively new to IIS, the MIME settings are in IIS>HTTP Headers>Mime Map (File Types). I hope this helps someone else out there. Tag: Download tracking Tag: 398426

    - corrupted request header problem We have a .net application that reads the If-Modified-Since header via context.Request.Headers.Item("If-Modified-Since"). The resulting string sometimes has appended to it "; l", after a normally valid date string. We are temporarily working around it by parsing the string, but I would really like to know if anyone else has seen this behavior, or may know why it is happening. Right now I manually look at the recoreded IP's and enter them into IIS as IP's to block for all websites. I would like to do this progmatically with the IIS API.     - ERROR MESSAGE Hi; I am running Windows XP Professional w/ SP 2. I just tried to install and run IIS, which is required for a course I am taking. The program installed, I then double clicked on the icon in Administrative Tools and the IIS interface came up . I expanded the entry and navigated to Web Sites. The Default Website came up in the right side window. I highlighted the entry, then clicked on the RUN icon (the right facing triangle on the menu bar).     - Help! IIS Website I am hoping someone can help me. I have a client using Gallery software. He is using Gallery software on his local computer, pictures that can be viewed from his Website hosted at another site, are actually on his local computer. When people visit his website, they can click on a photos button and are redirected to his local computer where the pictures are. Gallery software allows him to login and upload pictures to the Gallery software. He recently changed to another ISP, now has a different IP address. I had the website host redirect to the correct IP address. People checking his website can see the pictures, but on his local computer, when he goes to his website and clicks on the photo button, he gets connects to his DSL modem, not his gallery software.. I do not see anything in the gallery software, so I am thinking, may it is something in IIS that might be causing the problem.     - IIS 7 and .NET Framework 3.5 Hello all! I have started testing IIS 7 under Windows Server 2008 (beta) and have installed .NET Framework v3.5 on the same machine. However, I'm unable to see .NET Framework v3.5 as a configuration option for the application pools in the IIS Manager. All I can use is .NET Framework v2.0.50727. In fact, the only trace of v3.5 in my system is that I can uninstall it from within the Control Panel. The install is prompting for IISBack.vbs from the setup media. The only instance I can find is iisback.vb_ in the AMD64 directory on the install disk 1.     - hosting 2 websites using 2 ip addresses on the same physical serve Hi all, I have been searching online but can't get a grip on this. It is my first time implementing this project and I'm stuck. Basically, I would like to know (1) how to config IIS 5 on Windows 2000 Server to support hosting 2 websites using 2 different IP addresses. (2) I look at the IIS consule -> Web Site Identification to see the current website configuration. I found that the IP Address is "(All Unassigned)" on TCP Port 80. Do I have to modify the IP address of the first website? (3) how the server/IIS can differentiate if a request is from which ip address/website? Below is my situation: The Windows 2000 server has 2 NIC cards: LAN and Internet. My understanding is I don't need to modify setting on LAN card, but I'm not sure if I should assign another static local IP address (to support a new website) to the Internet NIC card. Our main "www" website's content management system is secured with SSL for the login. I have a new application that runs on "apps" and part of the project spec is that it is secured with SSL for our end users entering information. I have SSL certs for www and apps, but from what I understand you cannot have two SSLs on one IP. What are my options? files for download. Many of the download requests for the same file are
coming from different webpages. I'm looking for a way to track the number of
downloads by url. Can IIS do this itself or do I need to add some script to
get this ability?

Can you use the referer and use the log file? Each request for a file is
logged in the log file, and if all necessary information is logged, then
you can use the log file.
