        • IIS could not be started in a standalone Win 2000 machine Hi, I am having problems in starting IIS on my Windows 2000 machine. After installation, I tried starting the IIS. If gives an error in the Event Log saying The World Wide Web Publishing Service service terminated with the following error: The authentication service is unknown. Request you to help me in correcting this. This is a standalone machine, Windows 2000. I am not in any network. I use dial-up to connect to the Internet. ThankYou. • Any problems upgrading from FPSE 2000 to FPSE 2002? I posted a message a few days ago about the 'Configure Server Extensions missing from the All Tasks menu' problem - which is still unresolved. One suggestion was to upgrade to FPSE 2002. Not wanting to decide to do this lightly, does anyone have any input into possible problems that this upgrade may cause on a W2K server box that happens to be hosting multiple websites, that also integrates with VSS 6.0, Interdev and Visual Studio .Net EA. • again... iis6 only logs local hits, why? I'm reposting this I dont know too much about iis, so I guess I have set something wrong. I'm using W3C log format, and I'm sure I'm checking the correct log file. It just shows the local hits on the site. I only see my own IP address in the log file, no other enteries from other people (yeah yeah other people visit my site:P) I'm also using WhosOn program to get statistics from my log file. WhosOn shows the same thing. how come IIS isnt logging anything besides local hits? I'm confused Tag: Dial in not working as expected Tag: 307101

        • Cant get my pws to work I have IIS 5 on my computer (OS is XP prof). Was updating Manage My Network Passwords under User Accounts in order to store the logon information for one of my websites. I have the server and username but for some reason I cant get it to store the password. Tried removing it and added it again but it did the same thing, it just wont store the password and I cant access the site. Have a sneaking suspicion it has to do w/how I set up IIS or some security feature I need to change but for the life of me I cant figure out how. Tag: Dial in not working as expected Tag: 307098

        • VBScript: What is default function parm type - ByVal or ByRef? I know this should be a no-brainer, but I am seeing odd results in my ASP VBScript function calls with the passed parameters. In VBScript, is the default for a function parm ByRef or ByVal? I am running Windows 2000 Server, IIS 5. For example: What would be the result of the response.write statement below? '--------------------- function GetStringText(s) s = "goodbye" GetStringText = s end function dim sString, sOtherString sString = "hello" sOtherString = GetStringText(sString) response.write(sString & sOtherString) Tag: Dial in not working as expected Tag: 307097

        • SHTML "Object Disabled" Having problems with getting PERL working on IIS5. If I create a .PL file, everything works fine. So, it seems that PERL is okay. However, if I try to call a script within my web page, it doesn't work. I learned that you can do this with a HTM or HTML file. It has to be SHTM or SHTML. (Correct?). Well, modified my URLSCAN.INI - UseAllowExtensions = 0; put ';' in front of .shtm and .shtml. I believe that is set correct. I added to my list of default documents (and moved to the top of the list) index.shtml and index.shtm. I restarted IIS. However, I get "object disabled" when I view the page. Any ideas? Thanks, Andrew Tag: Dial in not working as expected Tag: 307094

        • My IIS just quit working. Can somebody help me??? Hello all, I am in need of assistance. I am running Windows XP Pro with IIS 5.0. I configured the IIS to run an FTP and WEB server. They both were working great. Well, at some point, my FTP server and and WEB decided not to work anymore. I was messing around with CD burning software and did an install and needed to reboot my computer. I do so. I then tried to go to my FTP server and could not get to it. I am running a program called IPNote. It monitors my routers IP address and then emails me if it changes. The program had 4 days left in the trial. After rebooting, it said the trial was over, even though it shouldn't have been. I think somehow it is blocking entrance into my computer. I was also messing around with a email programe called Mail Express Pro. It started with an error "Could not bind socket. Address and port are already in use." I don't think that is the problem since I am not concerned with SMTP at this time and that is what the program looks at. I uninstalled both the Mail Express Pro and IPNote. This did not help. I then uninstalled and reinstalled IIS. That did not help. I tried doing a system restore and that did not help. I can access the internet just fine. Something is blocking me coming into my computer and hitting the ports. If anybody can help or lead me into the right direction, it will be much appreciated. Thank You Very Much!!!! • IIS 5.1 FileSystemObject Hi, I have IIS 5.1 on Windows XP Professional with service pack 1. I am trying to open file on c:\ using file system object in asp. The object gets created but the scripts hangs when I try to open the file using opentextfile. Any idea what the problem could be? Thanks, Rajesh Tag: Dial in not working as expected Tag: 307053

        • Installation of Yet Another Critical Patch MS03-040 Microsoft says this is critical and it should be downloaded even if you don't use Explorer as your IP. I tried downloding it and got the reply "MS Explorer is not loaded" or something like that. What does that mean? Tag: Dial in not working as expected Tag: 307052

        • IP address shows in address bar after clicking links instead of domain Hello, I am running Windows 2000 Server with Microsoft-IIS/5.0. After registering my domain name and setting up URL forwarding from my domain name registrar to my static IP address assigned by my ISP, my IP address appears in the address bar after a link from my home page is clicked. When one first goes to my website the user sees just that: http://www.mywebsite.com/, however, once one of my links from within is clicked, the IP address precedes the link page, http://123.456.789.012/link.asp What I would like displayed instead so that users do not think that they have been redirected to another site is the domain name before all links: http://www.mywebsite.com/link.asp I did a search on Google.com and found that others have encountered the same thing. A few suggested going to Microsoft's site at the following link, http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-GB;q218180, but after doing so, the problem persists. Please let me know what I can do to correct this? Thanks, Kevin Tag: Dial in not working as expected Tag: 307023

        • Localhost Not working when Offline I have installed IIS onto a laptop in order to test several database driven websites prior to uploading. When I have an active internet conenction, everything works fine. As soon as I am no longer connected, both http://localhost and http://laptop give me Page Cannot be Displayed errors. I also get a pop-up that states: "No connection to the internet is currently available. To view Internet content that has been saved on your computer click Work Offline." If I elect to work offline, it just gives me the message: "The web page you requested is NOT available offline. To view this page click Connect" The web pages are set up in vdirs and work perfectly if I have an Internet connection. All the pages ARE on the local computer stored in directories set up using the MMC. Any help is appreciated. Tag: Dial in not working as expected Tag: 307020

        • How to access my dynamic-IP-server in a reasonable way? Hello, I have a broadband connection to my PC. I'm running Windows XP Pro and have installed IIS. I want to be able to access the webserver in a convenient way. If I had had a static IP I could make a link or forward to this IP fronwww.myhomepage.com/local or whatever. Unfortunately, my ISP doesn't give me a static IP, that is, my IP will change about every day (while I shut-down my computer at night). If I had had an own domain to dedicate to my web-server, I could have used one of the "dynamic DNS-services" avaliable. However, I don't want to devote a domain to my web-server, I just want to be able to reach it in a reasonable way - maybe from a link on my webpage at www.myhomepage.com, or as a forward from www.myhomepage.com/local/. Now the question is - how do I do this? With the "dynamic DNS-services" I would have some program determining my IP. Something like that sounds nice (except that I don't want to devote an entire domain to it). Is there any service where I can install such a program and then always have a link to my current IP at for example www.the-service-providers-name.com/myid/? That would solve my problem. Or are there any other idea how to solve this? Great thanks in advance! Tag: Dial in not working as expected Tag: 306981

In the application, depending on the previlages of the loggedin user, the related PDF files will be listed in the page. But if the user types the URL of the PDF file 'http://xyz/reports/xyz.PDF' that report will be shown to the user even though he is not supposed to view the same. Is there a way to restrict this unauthorised access using some settings in IIS? • several servers for Web Hosting I am writting an online web hosting service, for this I have 6 web servers (IIS 5.0) and I want to create sites on them whenever a registered user asks for a new domain. I use System.DirectoryServices.dll for creating a new site on a specified server, but I want to have access to this site from all 6 web servers not only the original server. I tried to use IISSync script but it is not a good idea because whenever a customer changes a property of e.g one of his virtual dorectories, the script should be ran to syncronize the 6 web servers. I want to know if there is a solution for this or not. Thanks a lot. Tag: Dial in not working as expected Tag: 306957
