I'm running Win2K SP4 and I need to get the "Default Web Site" back in order
to install MS Reporting Services. Thank you for any help with this.

I'm not familiar with installing MS Reporting - do you have a web site
running on port 80? How is your IIS configured?

MS Reporting Services installs for me, but will not activate. I was guessing
the problem may be due to IIS not having a Default Web Site (RS doc says it
is required). I found a script that enumerates through the web sites and
displays the IIS Site ID. Running the script reveals that this server does
indeed have "Default Web Site" (I'm basing this on seeing a Site ID = 1) -
it was just renamed. I renamed it back to Default Web Site. I just finished
RS install again... Unfortunately, it still does not activate.

Site ID 1 is the "default" site so you should be OK in that regard. What
does "does not activate" mean? Is there a specific error message? Do you
have other sites on the server?

When the install finishes, I get a dialog saying I must activate it
manually. I run rsconfig (to make sure my config has correct info) and then
run rsactivate to activate Reporting Services. I get this error:
------------------
Failure starting the web service:
System.Exception: Unexpected database error (-2147159548)
0x80004002 --->
System.Exception: 0x80004002
--- End of inner exception stack trace ---
at
Microsoft.ReportingServices.RSActivate.RSActivate.RpcActivateService(Int32
clientType)
at Microsoft.ReportingServices.RSActivate.RSActivate.InstanceMain()
at Microsoft.ReportingServices.BaseCmdLine.CommandLineMain(String[] args,
BaseCmdLine instance)
------------------
I see ReportServer service running, I see the databases that where created,
I see Reports and ReportServer under Default Web Site in inetmgr, I see
ReportServer process on the SQL Server, etc.

Yes, I do have other sites on the server.... I just don't think it's an IIS
problem now (since Default Web Site was just renamed - and it has since been
renamed back to Default Web Site). Thanks for trying to help, it is greatly
appreciated.

Yes, that doesn't appear to be IIS related at this point.
