    - W3SVC Error 2140 Hello, I have a problem with a W3SVC service. I have an error 2140, I followed the article KB271867 and nothing, my file "metabase.bin" is good (I have restored 2 backup).     - Type Mistmatch & Exception Occured Error We have an web application called I-CAL(Interactive Personal Loan Calculator). This application is configured on server with Win 2000, IIS 5.0 and with 1 GB Ram. The application is facing a very rare problem which is difficult to reproduce and trace. The problem statement is as follows: The application faces an ASP Error called "Type Mismatch" and the line it points the error to is the statement where we create an Object of the Business Component. For Eg: Set Obj = Server.CreateObject("PrgABC.clsXyz"). This is a very rare error which does'nt occur consistently. We are not able to trace it also. Can somemone tell me as to why we are facing such kind of error. Note: It does'nt occur consistently. The next error we are facing is "Exception Occured". This error basically occurs when the number of users increases. At present the number of users using the application are 350. But when the number increases to 500 the error starts occuring. We have to restart the IIS to get some memory space. After restarting, the application again start working smoothly. We tried to simulate the same problem on Development Server by consuming the memory space and then running the application. We were faced with the same errors. May be it might be Memory problem or the problem might be becuase of the large number of users accessing the site. If any one could put some light on it that would be of great help. Could any one help as the application is live and a lot chaos is created when the users face such errors during peak hours.     - call to localhost not responding on XP I have looked at quite a few of the other messages and have not found a solution. I have two machines running XP Pro SP2, behind a router. On one of them localhost does not respond using http://localhost/iisstart.asp in either IE or Mozilla. This is a new machine. It worked at one time, and suddenly quit. Usually the browser just quits trying, but sometimes I get "cannot find page or dns server". Windows task manager performance tab says 50% while the browser is looking. In IIS I tried browsing http://localhost/IISHelp/default.htm by right clicking and it does not work. I did find this in the most recent log file: #Software: Microsoft Internet Information Services 5.1 #Version: 1.0 #Date: 2006-02-21 08:45:38 #Fields: time c-ip cs-method cs-uri-stem sc-status 08:54:56 127.0.0.1 GET /iisstart.asp 500 The other, older machine runs fine. I can ping each machine from the other one. I can ping 127.0.0.1 just fine. I can see no differences in the settings between the two machines. Any ideas as to what I can do next?     - Host Headers and DNS Hi, I have a Win SBS 2003 domain called xyz.local with Active Directory installed with the Sharepoint Services and the default (internal) web site on this machine. Now I want to host another web site called abc.com on this same server. In DNS I have created the forward lookup zone for abc.com and use the server.xyz.local as my name server and the SOA entry (all for the zone abc.com). I have setup the host headers for www.abc.com in IIS and the www (CNAME) for this server. The problem is that the web site (www.abc.com) does not resolve in a browser, but a nslookup query shows that www.abc.com is resolved to the server....what am I doing wrong and can any one point me to a guide as to DNS entries involved for creating multiple web sites with one IP address using host headers.     - VB.NET ISAPI Filer / IHTTPModule I am trying to create an ISAPI filter using VB.NET. (In IIS, right click a website, click properties, click the "ISAPI Filters Tab). Maybe I am barking up the wrong tree but this is what I want to do. I want to filter ALL requests to a website (including images, pdf, word docs, EVERYTHING) and then perform authintication on it. From what I have found, IHTTPModule is the way I want to go. I do not want to create an ISAPI Extension because I do not want to map extensions to the aspnet_isapi.dll because I do not know what extensions might exist. I have found a few example of the IHTTPModule but none tell me everything that I need to know like What project to use (Web Application, Web Service, etc...) If someone could point me to a good example or even some source code that would be great. I downloaded an ISAPI filter from Microsoft call ed URLScan that was supposed to include the source code but I could not find the source code after installing. Any help would be greatly appreciated.     - Request for PDF with & in filename fails (when using wildcard mapp I am using IIS 6.0 and have customized application wildcard mapping to ASP.NET 2.0 aspnet_isapi.dll. I need this for Form Auth. to work with all kind of files. My problem is, that when using this wildcard mapping, IIS does not serve PDF files with & in the filename any longer (e.g. (http://mydomain/miles&more.pdf)) any longer - I am receiving "Bad request".     - Idle IIS 6.0 Server Eventually Stops Responding, Logs 503 errors Hello, I'm currently tracking down an ongoing problem we are having with an IIS 6.0 web application deploymnet. The environment is a small web cluster with two load-balanced web servers (win2k3 std, IIS6, ASP.NET 1.1, C# application code) and a single database server (win2k3 std., SQL 2000 std). On each web server, we have two distinct web applications running, for a total of 4 app instances across the two web servers. The problem we're seeing is that after standing idle for approximately 24-48 hours, where the only traffic seen is regular heartbeat tests from our load balancer, IIS becomes unresponsive and begins logging 503 errors to the IIS log. I've examined the following available logs for relevant entries: IIS log, perfmon (various monitors), Eventlog System, Eventlog, Security, Eventlog Application, HTTP Error and custom application logs of our own design. The IIS log shows the app responding normally (HTTP 200, 302, etc.) and then all traffic stops for several hours. Typically the next entry shows an app restart as expected as part of the application pool recycling threads. Shortly thereafter with no serviced HTTP requests, the IIS logs show the app recycling again whereupon it begins returning 503 errors until we manually recyclel the w3csvc service. The HTTP Error log shows similar entries but with a large number of connection abandonded entries immediately prior to the 503 errors starting. However, the perfmon logs show plenty of available memory, cpu and drive space and no obvious problems in the .NET CLR and ASP.NET counters. I've also checked for excessive session objects not getting recycled and that does not appear to be a factor either. Another symptom we've seen that we believe may be related is that frequently IIS requires *two* restarts to completely come back to life. We are using "net stop w3svc" to stop IIS and "net start w3svc" to restart. Occassionally, the first time we issue a "net stop w3svc" the IIS service will respond immediately indicating that it has stopped. We then restart the servcie which also responds immediately. However, upon restart of IIS, the problem frequently seems to persist. The second stop command typically takes several minutes to complete before the reporting that it has stopped successfully. Restarting the service at this point will then allow our web appliation to function normally until the problem starts again. Any ideas on how to troubleshoot further? I'm stumped.     - Performance problems via HTTPS Hope some of you gurus might be able to help me shed some light on this. we have a server that hosts an application via IIS 5.0, which users connect via HTTPS, we have some users that are having performance problems connecting to the site, they can initially get to the login page, but after there is a long delay before the data gets displayed, but then the are some users that are not experiencing any problems at all. I don't see a problem while connected from where I am at, or from any of the users that are within this network. When those same users connect via HTTP, they have no problems at all. I am thinking this is not a problem on my end, but a network configuration change on the other end, but they claim that nothing changed. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.     - Need Howto: Getting my DNS Server to be a "real world" Name Server to host websites. Hello, this is my first posting in Google Groups, I am not sure that this group is the best fit for my question but it was the closest I could find. I am trying to host my own domain (www.ecsmaine.com) and bring in 2 more right off then more later. I tried following a tutorial online but it wasn't too clear. ( http://www.iisanswers.com/articles/dns_for_iis.htm ). I have Windows 2003 Server SP1 standard edition. I have a static IP from my isp, and my router with port forwarding setup for ports 25, 53, 80, 110, 143. (SMTP, DNS, WEB, POP3, IMAP). I have IIS 6 setup with some websites, I removed the default site and went to the hosts setup. I entered any available ip address, port 80, and ecsmaine.com as the host name. I have hMailserver with ASSP and CLAMWin setup for my mail. I have my domain hosted with www.ns.com right now and I have chaged the MX record to point to my server, it is working good along with another domain I have. I am stuck, when I go to update the auth records on my domain (www.ecsmaine.com) from ns2.ns.com to ns.ecsmaine.com I fail because the site trys to resolve the ip address itself and cannot find my static ip address. I am not sure if I setup my dns server correctly. I created a new zone and called it ecsmaine.com, then added host(a) records for mail, www, webmail, ns. All host(a) records are pointing to my static ip address (real world static ip from my ISP). I created a MX record that points to mail.ecsmaine.com. the SOA, and Name Server was created for me when I added the domain to DNS. I updated my SOA record to point to ns.ecsmaine.com and changed hostmaster. to administrator.ecsmaine.com. In my SOA properties, on the Name Servers tab I have a record that says web-server.ecsmaine.com, I added 2 ip's here 1 being my real world, then the other my internal lan address. I am not sure what I am supposed to have here, web-server is my computer name for the lan. If any body knows of a good tutorial I usually can figure stuff out, but getting a name server reconized on the www has me stumped.     - IIS Dumping I have had my site crash about 4 times over the past couple of days. Recycling the app pool gets it back up. My host kindly put it in its own app pool to ensure it is my site and not another that is causing the problem. It still occurs. They put a monitor on the site so when it crashed they could quickly take a dump - which they have sent me. Can anyone crack IIS dumps? Currently I have no idea of what and where in my app this is caused. I am going to resort to sticking in some tracing for the start of each ASPX page.     - How do I make my vertual directory the root I have taken over the maintenace of an existing site written in PHP. It comprises nearly 150 PHP files and throughout these files all references to other files are absolute. It runs fine on the host, but when I put it on my PC to work on it I found that the absolute paths didn't work. I created a virtual directory in XP's Internet Information Services and gave it a name (eg MyProject). Now all files are actually relative to MyProject - so, the PHP files are referencing (for example) "/images/picture.jpg" but the actual path to the file is now "/MyProject/images/picture.jpg" and there doesn't seem to be anything I can do to get rid of this intervening directory. I even tried creating a new server, but the IIS on my system (which I think came with VS, unless it comes with XP these days) doesn't seem to allow that - Default Web Site seems to be all you get. Of course, changing all the references to relative by taking out the first / would do the trick, but that's a lot of editing and could create other problems and break an otherwise working site. We have a machine with a build in webserver which is accessible over the network by ip-adres or name.     - IIS responding with HTTP 500 Error to Web Service requests I recently had a problem consuming a web service using a java applet (or any other client side consumer). The web service worked correctly however the response could not seem to get from the server to client. The reason for this was my web services were sitting within a Application in ISS /ASP UI (configured as an IIS application) - /WS/MyWebService.asmx (where WS is configured as an IIS application) When i moved WS out from under the /ASP UI app everything worked fine -- it seems like IIS doesnt handle nested applications well, atleast if the nested application are web services. does anyone have any insight into what exactly is handling? why its happening? and whats the best way to fix it?     - IIS 6 will not serve asp pages I have an IIS 6 server with Exchange 2003. I can access OWA. I've narrowed this problem down to not being able to serve any asp pages. I created a very basic asp file and it will not open it in IE or IIS Mgr. I can serve HTML files though. I have checked Web Service Extensions and I am allowing ASP pages.     - IIS 5.1 World Wide Web Publishing never starts Hi, I recently installed Visual Studio 2005 and made a Web service (C++) project. I installed IIS 5.1 on my XP. When trying to execute the web service program from the the browser i got an error message in the event log: "Failed to initialize the AppDomain:/LM/W3SVC/1/Root" and in the browser it showed an error regarding access problem to MetaBase. I found some info elsewhere in this forum stating you could try: "aspnet_regiis -ga ASPNET" in order to set the proper rights for running the web service. It didn't work. Then I found another "tip" stating that you could run: aspnet_regiis -u aspnet_regiis -i for uninstalling and re-installing. After I did this the IIS "World Wide Web Publishing" service never starts. In the service mmc it keeps saying starting. I have now tried to re-install the IIS but the problem remains.     - IIS Remote Logging To Cluster Resource In an environment which consists of web servers running IIS6.0 and Server2003 with the web content stored remotely on a clustered SAN device, I need to set up remote IIS logging to a folder where the web developers can access the logs within their share. I did so and this works fine using \\SERVERNAME\SHARENAME\FOLDER but the problem is that if the cluster group is moved from one server to another or if it fails over, the logging will no longer work. I attempted to use the cluster resource name, which is pingable from the web server, but I get the error "UNABLE TO CREATE LOG FILE \CLUSTERNAME\SHARENAME\FOLDER MAKE SURE THAT THE LOGGING DIRECTORY IS CORRECT AND THIS COMPUTER HAS WRITE ACCESS TO THAT DIRECTORY" If I switch it back to the server name of the active server in the cluster, it works fine again. I have set up the following: 1.Default Website with no host headers Integrated Windows authentication enabled 2. NLB set up on the server. The NLB name is NLBCluster 3.     - CustomAuth Problem I have access to 2 web servers on 2 completely different and unrelated domains. The first is our own domain (the development domain) and the second is a customer domain (the live environment). Both servers are running W2K3 server SP1 with IIS 6.0 and the IIS 6.0 Resource Kit Tools. I create a simple virtual server in IIS containing a single HTML page (test.htm) on both servers and then apply the CustomAuth ISAPI to each virtual server using the instructions outlined in the ini file / guides on the web. I apply the process stringently on both servers so all settings and permissions are set identically, including denying access to test.htm for the IIS anonymous account. On our own development server the built-in login form of CustomAuth is shown when I try and access the test page as expected. On the customer live server I never get presented with the login form - the browser seems to cycle endlessly. I can't understand what could possibly be causing the 2 apparently identical setups to behave differently. I did not setup the customer live W2K3 server, so there is potential for something to have been configured differently that would stop CustomAuth from working, but I am at a loss to what it could be. The only difference I have noted so far is that on the live customer server (which does not work), when I first choose Permissions on the new virtual server web site, the IIS anonymous account (IUSR_ComputerName) is not shown as set with any permissions on the web site.     - Page not displayed When I try to access OWA from any browser I receive Page Not Displayed. We have the following setup: Exchange 2003 Server 2003 SP1 .Net Framework 1.1 with 2.0 installed but using 1.1 for OWA OWA has not worked since we migrated from 2000 to 2003. I have tried uninstalling IIS and Exchange but it does not fix this problem. When I browse to owalogon.asp through IIS Mgr and choose owalogon.asp to browse I still receive the page not displayed error so I know that it is not an error that appears just from the outside.. It' s as if I don't have the correct permissions but I have checked them numerous times. To check permissions I even added the IUSR to the Domain Admins Group but stil receive this error.     - Enumerate all physical files and directories via C# Hey everyone, This is one of those questions that is probably so basic that nobody ever bother to write down an answer. How the heck am I suppose to enumerate the files and non-virtual directories in an IIS Web Site. Using C#, I am able to easily use DirectoryServices to get a list of sites and to enumerate all the VDIRs in a site, but I can't seem to figure out how I am suppose to get a list of all the physical files and directories in that site. Should I be using DirectoryServices, or System.Management or perhaps System.IO? I can't find the missing link. What confuses me even more is that when I use the IIS Resource Tool Metabase Browser, it doesn't show me the physical files either. Just the VDIRs :(. I have seen code samples that use DirectoryServices to get a DirectoryEntry, they then enumerate through the DE's children and test the "SchemaName" - for me though, my ROOT directory always has one (or two children) that are just VDIRS and those directories have no children. I seem to have gotten most things working including WebDAV, but when I use DreamWeaver 8 (multiple use it to author against our site) we get one odd symptom. The symptom is that DreamWeaver cannot get or put a ASP file. You can create folders, delete folders, create HTML files but you cannot do anything with an ASP file. The Webservice is only used by our own application. When one specific user is executing the call, it is failing and in the logfiles there is a http status code 400 logged. The webserver is located in germany and almost all users are located in germany too. This user is located in spain and uses telefonica as provider with a static IP.     - Can not run multiple Web Services on Win2003 IIS 6.0 Hello, I've just been testing two applications that use WSE 2sp3 for exchanging SOAP messages. These applications can be run as either a Windows Service or a Web Service. The problem is encounter when I try run them both as web services under IIS 6.0 on the same Windows 2003 machine, I have them both working quite happily on a Windows XP machine with IIS 5.1. Both services are installed in the Default web site folder (C:\Inetpub\wwwroot\MyCompany) and have httpHandlers defined in their respective web.config files: For Service1: <httpHandlers> <add verb="*" path="*.ashx" type="MyCompany.Service1.Common.Service1Receiver, MyCompany.Service1.Common" /> </httpHandlers> For Service2: <httpHandlers> <add verb="*" path="*.ashx" type="MyCompany.Service2.Common.Service2Receiver, MyCompany.Service2.Common" /> </httpHandlers> Enabling the WSE 2.0sp3 tracing results in an Input and Output trace files being created for Service1, but only an output trace file is created for Service2. So messages are not getting to the httpHandler for Service2, when both services are installed! If I then uninstall Service1 and just run Service2, Service2 works fine. I tried enabling all IIS 6.0 Web service extenstions to no avail. I've run out of ideas of what to try next. I'm hoping someone with a more experience using IIS might be able to help. I have IIS 6 installed, ASP.NET, all others are allowed and running, like webdav, server side, etc...I have been slaving for almost two weeks now trying to show my web page over the internet. I do have a Linksys 4 port router which I tried to set the appropriate ports and address in forwarding. Still not sure I accomplished this task appropriately. I can't find a certain port to use so for "eg .... webserver .... ex 165 to 165 .... tcp enable \ udp enable....192.168.1.#$ ....enable" Also for the properties under tcp\ip.... IP address: 192.168.1.@@ subnet mask: 255.255.$$$$ default gateway: 192.168.1.1 preferred dns: 192.168.1.@@ (same as IP) alternate dns: ______________(blank) for my web page, ...right click, properties IP address , (same as above) TCP port : 165 My permissions are : everyone"read" users: read\write admin etc...are all. I can view the page from my server or my networked computers, but not over the internet. I have tried and tried and can't seem to allow this publicly. I do believe that by me setting the IP address, that it is now static IP, correct? The ports are a bit confusing but assumed any unused port between the number of ports accessible could be assigned. I have only been at server 2003 for 3 weeks on and off now, mostly trying to configure this web site. The only thing that I can figure is my port settings and ip are wrong or some security issue with IIS or something is simply blocking me. My router does use NAT which according to thier help was easy to configure, except they left out how to configure the ports.     - W2K3+Sp1: All requests return 404 My testing server has W2K3 installed and a copy of my websites. When I installed SP1 on it all the websites stopped serving pages. I have confirmed through IIS manager that the sites are pointing to the correct directories on the hard drive. When I try to access anything via IIS, an entry is created in the IIS Logfile for the request with a 404 status code and then said 404 error is returned to the client. I tried creating a new site on the same box and the same thing happens. I'm completely confused. When I click into the IIS Administrator snap-in from the Administrative Tools folder, I can check the option for extended logging and can turn on and off the sub options - But when I apply those changes and close the dialog, the extended logging option shows unchecked when I reopen. I recently wiped out the machine and reinstalled the O/S fresh to clean up the clutter - This wasn't a problem prior to that.     - 403.1 Frobidden: Execute access is denied I am consolidating our old intranet and internet boxes to one new box. I have a Windows 2003 Sp1 server with IIS6 that hosts our intranet using a virtual directory and host header working fine. Now I want to set up the internet site on the same box. I have added a new IP address to the NIC, assigned that IP to the virtual directory for the new site along with the host header. The domain is registered with DNS servers I have set persmission the same as the old server but get Error 403.1 when I try to connect to the site. I know that I am getting past the firewall and the IP and host header are working cause I made a minor edit to the 403.1 error page and I can see the edit. For the internet virutal directory I have on the Home Directory tab Read checked and execute permissions set to Scripts only ( I am using SSI ) and on the Configurateion tab .shtml is mapped to C:\WINDOWS\system32\inetsrv\ssinc.dll with Get and Post. For the folder itself the IIS_WPG and Interet Guest User have Read & Execute, List and Read permissions. What else can I check? TIA, Larry Tag: DCOM and IIS errors..... Tag: 378578

    - IIS6 Multiprocessor ASP MS Access ADO - Slow, hangs, timeouts There are a lot of newsgroup articles that refer to a bunch of different scenarios related to problems with running MS Access ADO ASP pages in IIS6 on a multiprocessor machine... and I seem to have every single problem. There were bugs with multiprocessors; bugs with Jet and IIS6; and some articles claim that everything is "fixed". I am still pulling my hair out. I thought moving to Windows 2003 would be the way to go. I mean, all I had was a simple ASP webpage. This decision has been nothing but headaches. When I have multiprocessors in my server, my ADO ASP pages almost never load. When I remove the second processor, the pages will load in under a second a few times, and then start to not load again. So, I have fixed this by setting my App. Pool's "recycle worker processes" setting to be a very low time (2 minutes). But this is still unacceptable. As evidence from the newsgroups, these problems have existed in many forms for a long time. It is difficult to figure out a true status of these issues. Does anyone know when these bugs will be fixed? Or, do I still have to call for a non-public released hotfix from Microsoft to fix these issues? -rs Tag: DCOM and IIS errors..... Tag: 378576

I got a DCOM error (Event ID: 10020) and a
error from the service manager on the IIS Admin service (Event ID: 7024)

Actually Im running Windows XP Embedded SP2, but I think its more a XP
issue....
Reinstalling IIS isnt a solutions for me (XP embedded...)

My research tells me it can be related to som crypto file needed by IIS
Admin that is corrupt ??

So I have some few question:

1: Does anybody know how to solve this ?

2: alternative, how do I ensure, that the IIS Admin service isn't launced
at boot ?? (Something is trying to start it, event if it set to manual or
disable) I think its the DCOM Server Process Launcer...
