IIS Command Line
Hi,
Using dos command line, how can I change in IIS the Web
server IP address from "All Unassigned" to a different IP
address?

Problem displaying JPEG files through localhost
Hi there.
Recently, I have had a quite peculiar problem: When browsing web-pages
through localhost on my workstation, JPEG-files do not display - a red cross
in IE and nothing in Mozilla; trying to browse the images from the folder
(example: http://localhost/test/images/showme.jpg) equally fails. They do,
however, display when browsing the web-pages directly through the file
system. (example: C:\Inetpub\wwwroot\test\images\showme.jpg)
The problem not only concerns IIS, but also Apache and Tomcat - no JPEG
images, while GIF's and PNG's are displayed regardless of browser, so the
problem must be deeper than IIS.
Of course, I have checked the general MIME-settings on the workstation, but
all seems to be in good order.
Does anybody have any idea what the reason for this problem can be, and how
to solve it?
Best regards,
Ken Tag: IIS Command Line Tag: 338206
COM+ Problems in One Site but not Another
In a web ASP application with IIS 5.0 that uses a COM+ application comprised
of 50+
components contained within about 30 DLLs (handles data access and business
logic) one of the components is throwing errors (ASP Timeout errors, Invalid
Use of Null error) even though it's been running fine for three years (and
was working fine this morning) and I haven't touched it in a year. It is
contained within a DLL that provides a DB-read component (which is working
fine and works with SQL Server) and a write-to-DB component which is the one
that suddenly does not work (it also uses transactions).
I've triend shutting down the entire COM+ application without effect. I have
not restarted the production server or IIS yet, since it is in high use
throughout the day. All of the other components, transactional and otherwise
are all working fine. And in fact, another identical ASP application (a demo
site) that uses
the SAME components works fine
Does anyone know what may be going on and how to resolve this one component
going crazy in one web application but works fine in another (identical
one)?
Thanks for any help. Tag: IIS Command Line Tag: 338203
How to troubleshoot slow performance resolving jpg?
I would appreciate any advice on how to start troubleshooting a performance
issue I am having with IIS 5.1. I am a novice at IIS. Here is the deal:
Config:
Windows XP SP1
McAffee virus scanning
IIS 5.1
Visual Studio .Net
Problem (simple description):
Open IE
Type http://localhost/adventurechallenges/library/images/b3.jpg
Hit enter
It takes 5 minutes (literally) for this jpg to be returned by IIS. The jpg
does exist and it exists in the location indicated above in the URL. I
checked it in IIS MMC (Internet Information Services, under Administrative
Tools, which was under Control Panel). There are many other jpgs and gifs
in the same folder. IE will resolve some of the files very quickly and
others will take 3-5 minutes.
Problem (more complicated description, but I think it is the same thing):
Start Visual Studio .Net
An Open Project window is presented.
I click on any of the available projects.
An "Open Web" windows is presented, showing me that it is attempting to open
the project. It stays there for about 30 minutes before opening the
project.
I know it is waiting on IIS because of the following IIS log entries ....

then there has been trouble. IIS has been reinstalled. Visual Studio has

I don't know what to do from here. Is it possible that the metabase is
messed up and needs to be recreated?
I appreciate any assistance.

My ISP (they are configuring my firewall) informs me that I should look at

How do I do this on each of the boxes (Windows 2000 Server and Windows 2000

I'm finding tons of examples out there on how to create a table or enumerate

I imagine it is something like:

Set Cat.ActiveConnection = Conn

For Each objColumn in myTable.Columns

Make Index.Html Default
I'm new to IIs having moved from the Apache and WebSite Professional
world and this is a new approach to managing web sites. I've created a
new Web site and when users try to get to it, they get a "you are not
authorized to view this page" error from IE and "directory listing
denied" error from Mozilla. If I put in the /index.html after the web
site address, it works fine.
So, how/where do I specify that index.html or index.htm should be the
default page? I've looked at the properties sheet for the Web site but
I don't see it listed there.

Win 2003 std file upload with php
Hello all. I am tearing my hair out over a problem I am having with
uploading files from http forms via php to my Win2003 server.
Basically, after a certain time, file uploads fail. I have set the max
file upload size in php.ini, and am sure it isnt a problem with the
php configuration. All my uploads are stalling at approximately 8Mb.
I tried logging into the server and running the file upload page from
there and was able to upload much larger files with no problem at all,
but when I try it from my office machine, I can start the upload, and
- via remote desktop - simultaneously see the size of the temp file on
the server increasing, then when it hits approx 8mb - but sometimes
slightly more or less - the file size stops increasing, and the
transfer fails, with no feedback from my php script. As I said, this
definitely isnt a problem with the php setup, as from the server
itself, calling the php script, I am able to upload much larger files.
I have a feeling this is a 'time based' rather than 'filesize based'
issue I am running into.
Googling around suggests that in previous versions of IIS, a possible
tweak may have involved increasing the Script timeout setting on the
server. Is this likely to help? And if so, how can I do this with
IIS6?
Thanks in advance for any help Tag: IIS Command Line Tag: 338127

Regional settings and ASP
Hello everyone.
I recently installed IIS5 on a Win2000 server. I selected the european
parameters for currency, dates and numbers in the regional settings.
Unfortunely the ASP interpreter seems to ignore this configuration and keeps
up showing the numbers in the american format. The commas and dots
separators are inverted: for a number like '1.500,99', '1,500.99' is still
visualized. Anyone knows if the problem could be due to an incompatibility
between the american version of Win2000 and european settings ?
I thank you for helps.

Problems opening Excel after upgrading from IIS 4 to IIS 5
Hi,
After I've upgraded my server from IIS4 on NT4 to IIS 5 on W2000, my excel pages can no longer be viewed on Japanese WinXP IE6 with Jap Office 2000. There was no code changes of course and it works perfectly fine on English WinXP IE6 with Office 2000.
The excel file downloaded to the client is generated from ASP and also used to work on Jap WinXP IE6 before the IIS upgrade. Below is some sample code of how the excel file generated and thrown back to the client.
<% Response.ContentType = "application/x-msexcel" %>

urgent! active directory mapping problem
Hi,
We are trying to use active directory certificate mapping (when SSL client
authentication) with a non-enterprise certificate authority. I have done all
the steps suggested and required by several different guides, but i still
got the error 403.16 (client certificate untrusted or invalid). None of the
eventlogs writes any information at all...
I did not find any good troubleshoot guide on the net. The platform is 2003
AD in 2003 mode and iis 6 on 2003.
PS: I have tried to added the third party ca certificate into both ntauth,
enterprise trust AND local trusted root ca store..... with no change.
I have go two questions:
1) Are there any strange requirements not dokumented? (I do use standard
user certificates issued from users in domain A and try to map them as
extranet users in domain B)
2) How can i turn on SSL log features? (I turned on all log features on IIS
but the event logs does not write anything when returning 403.16 to the
user.)
3) MOST IMPORTANT: How do i solve this? Tag: IIS Command Line Tag: 338100
Can't get to IIS
Hello there;
When I do http://localhost/test/test.htm, I get the page on the webserver machine. But when I try http://192.168.2.50, I get page cannot be displayed error. The IP number of the webserver is exactly what I typed. When I ping this IP number, I do get a reply. Is there a setting in IIS?

reinstall problem
I am running IIS5.1 on XP.
I got the "service did not respond to the start command in a timely fashion"
error when I manual start the default web service.
Then I uninstall the IIS component from the Add/Remove in control panel.
After I re-install the IIS component, it reports the installation complete.
However, the service still seems not exist when I type the inetmgr on the
command line.
What is the problem for the re-installation?

Server-side debugging stopped working
For a couple of months now server-side ASP debugging has not been
working on my Windows 2003 IIS6 server. There aren't any error
messages, my breakpoints (STOP statements) are just ignored. This
used to work. I suspect the problem was caused by some critical
update. Any ideas? Tag: IIS Command Line Tag: 338084
Windows 2003 POP3 Server
Hi,
I am not sure if this is the right newsgroups to put this question. So
if it isn't, please let me know which
I am trying to create several accounts with the POP3 server that comes
with Windows 2003. Is there a way to automate the creation of these
accounts? Maybe using WMI?
Another question, how many email accounts can I create with this built
in server. I would like to create 45000. Is this possible?

Could this KB article explain my IIS hanging?
Our ASP based web site ran on IIS 5 / Windows 2000 for a couple years, never
with any problem.
When we upgraded to IIS 6 and Windows Server 2003 we brought the entire web
site over - did not change any of the code.
Within a few weeks we experienced our first IIS hang. These hangs have
continued ever since, lasting months now. Sometimes we go a few weeks with
no hangs before it hangs again, and other times we may get a couple of hangs
within the same week. There is no pattern to the amount of day in between
hangs or the time of the day, etc.
What the condition is triggered, certain web pages do not respond when
accessed. These pages have in common that we use MS Access ODBC to
read/write from an Access database. Pages that do not access the MS Access
db continue to respond for a bit, but then eventually those pages stop
responding to. So in summary when the problem first is triggered the pages
that access the db do not respond at all, while other pages do, then
eventually no pages respond. My access driver version is 4.00.6205.00. I
don't know what version of MDAC is installed.
From what I've seen with perfmon while this is going on, at first ASP
Requests Queued is 0 and ASP Requests Executing starts going up up up and
eventually stops going up once it hits 90. I suppose during this time the
pages which access the db are hanging processes, and eventually when it hits
90 it runs out of processes. Once it hits 90, subsequent requests for any
page cause ASP Requests Queued to start going up up up.
While this is happening, if I go into the IIS Manager DefaultAppPool
properties and change the "Recycle worker processes (in minutes)" from the
default to 1 minute and apply this change, then within a minute or two
Requests Executing and Requests Queued go to 0 and everything starts
responding and working just fine at that point.
Recently I found this KB article:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;838306&Product=iis60
FIX: Web applications that use the Jet database engine may stop responding
under heavy load
After reading that article it dawned on my that the pages that do not
respond at first are the ones that use Access. The article however does not
say that eventually all ASP pages stop responding - it just says that it
stops responding to requests that access the database. So I wasn't sure if
this article applied.
Anyway, I would **greatly** appreciate any thoughts on whether this fix may
address our issue, and whether there is anything else I can look into to
determine whether this may be the issue or not, or what other
troubleshooting steps we can take. Thank you very much in advance.

IIS 6 - FTP Deletes
Hi all,
This seems like a silly question but I can't seem to figure out how to allow deletes in IIS. When I look at the virtual directory permissions the user that is mapped to the directory (I'm using user isolation) has full control assigned. However when the user connects they cannot delete (error 550 Access denied). When I look at the properties for the virtual directory there are check boxes for Read, Write, and Log Visits. Why no delete?

Internal Server Error (500) - The data is invalid (IIS/6)
Hopefully someone recognizes this and might give me a
really good hint.
My web site on a IIS/6.0 server is down and responds with
HTTP/1.1 500 Internal Server Error
The data is invalid
of course this is of much help, even as the event log
where NOTHING shows up, including application, system and
security log!
The Web Site log shows:
ServiceStatus: 500 (HTTP/1.1 500 Internal Server Error)
Win32 Status: 13 (The data is invalid)
So its quite correct that this error is shown, it is
however not so obvious where it comes from!
Unfortunally the MSDN Library doesn't allow us to trace
back where the error is generated to at least give get an
idea...
The service has run perfectly!
Two websites running in different 'pools' are still
running perfect (for some very odd reason).
Whats enabled:
ASP.NET
ASP
Frontpage
Exchange Server (running 2003)
Could someone give me a solution or a good hint?
I really need your help!

IUSR\IWAM Web Accounts and Security
Hello, I have a question concerning the accounts for web access to a
2000 web server: IUSR_<systemname> and IWAM_<servername>.
I have my Security Policy set to lockout accounts on multiple invalid
login attempts. The accounts give no issue during normal web
operation but some hackers are attempting to break into my web server
using them (and locking the accounts out in the process).
Can I rename them without causing any issues?
Thanks for the advice,

Simple question about IIS Applications and dllhost
I have many medium (pooled) applications in IIS 5.1.
Each one creates a new dllhost process (when first served) and remains
loaded even after the session timeout occurs (default 20 min).
Shouldn't an application unload automatically after this timeout?
I have to manually unload each one to free up resources.
I don't want to run them in low (IIS process) mode.
This also occurs if running in high (isolated) mode.
Maybe reaching the session timeout does not unload an application - what
does then? Maybe a registry setting?
I don't want to manually unload each one!!!

Mystery of the vanishing (local) web-site.
I have a folder called SessionStart. This is it's path:
C:\Inetpub\wwwroot\ASP.NET\Unleashed\16\SessionStart
It contains 2 files.
Global.asax
SessionCount.aspx
These 2 folders are already virtual directories:
C:\Inetpub\wwwroot
C:\Inetpub\wwwroot\ASP.NET
With IIS I do:
New Virtual Directory,
Alias: SessionStart
Path: C:\Inetpub\wwwroot\ASP.NET\Unleashed\16\SessionStart
It won't allow me to create the new virtual directory because it
says the name (alias) is not unique. Clearly I've already tried
to create it once and must have succeeded. The problem is I
can't see where it is. It's not listed under "Web Sites",
"Default Web Site", "Default Web
Site\ASP.NET\Unleashed\16\SessionStart". I know that it should
be under "Default Web Site".
Refreshing and restarting IIS change nothing. Restarting the
machine did nothing.
When I enter the following in my browser:
http://localhost/SessionStart/SessionCount.aspx
I get an error:
HTTP 404. The resource you are looking for (or one of its
dependencies) could have been removed, had its name changed, or
is temporarily unavailable. Please review the following URL and
make sure that it is spelled correctly.
I was able to copy the contents of folder "SessionStart" to
"SessionStart2". Create a new virtual directory for that and it
works. What's wrong with "SessionStart"? and how can I debug the
problem?
Could the problem be that I had the IIS plugin folder path set
to "Default Web Site\ASP.NET\Unleashed\16\SessionStart" when I
created "SessionStart" but it was set to "Default Web Site" when
I created "SessionStart2"? If so I'll remember not to do that
again. But, given that this alias is in use, but unavailable to
me, how can I reclaim it?

Issue with IIS
I created a website in IIS 6.0, by default I have given Annoymous access and basic authentication for the website.... Now i have few virtual folder which I have given anonymous access to and few I have not....
Presently I have two virt1 and virt2 virtual folders under the website abc.com..My concern is that I have logged into the website with an authentication user name of the Domain which IIS 6.0 is belongs. Now when i click on the link to virt2 virtual folder ( when the permission set is Basic authentication ) ...It pops up for username and password ...
Well if I enable the annonymous access for the virt2 folder then am able to see the webpage which is under virt2...The issues is that if I enable the anonnymous access to the virt2 folder...then anyone access http://abc.com/virt2 can access the home page with out an authentication
How can i ensure to disallow users directly logs into http://abc.com/virt2 ...but at the same if I log into the website with proper authentication and then click on the link virt2, it should take me through with out asking for username and password Tag: IIS Command Line Tag: 337967
