I have recently upgraded a NT4 Server to Windows 2003 IIS 6.

I had a web site which was secured with SSL. Now however, when I try
accessing the site I get a 'Page cannot be displayed' error. I tested the
site by unticking the 'Requires Secure Channel' and I am able to access the
site without SSL.

I have obviously missed something, but dont know what. Any help would be
greatly appreciated.

I'll ask a stupid question: Did you get another Server Certificate and
install it?

Have you specified the ip address in the properties of
the site, or left it as all unassigned? You must specify
it to work properly. If you have to do this, make sure
you stop and restart the website. Don't use iisreset.

Not that either!!

The IP is set. Everything seems to be configured as it was before, I can
even telnet on to the port, so the server is obviously listening on port
443. I just doesn't seem to be displaying any content.

As requested:-

The page cannot be displayed
The page you are looking for is currently unavailable. The Web site
might be experiencing technical difficulties, or you may need to adjust your
browser settings.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Please try the following:

a.. Click the Refresh button, or try again later.

b.. If you typed the page address in the Address bar, make sure that
it is spelled correctly.

c.. To check your connection settings, click the Tools menu, and
then click Internet Options. On the Connections tab, click Settings. The
settings should match those provided by your local area network (LAN)
administrator or Internet service provider (ISP).
d.. See if your Internet connection settings are being detected. You
can set Microsoft Windows to examine your network and automatically discover
network connection settings (if your network administrator has enabled this
setting).
1.. Click the Tools menu, and then click Internet Options.
2.. On the Connections tab, click LAN Settings.
3.. Select Automatically detect settings, and then click OK.
e.. Some sites require 128-bit connection security. Click the Help
menu and then click About Internet Explorer to determine what strength
security you have installed.
f.. If you are trying to reach a secure site, make sure your
Security settings can support it. Click the Tools menu, and then click
Internet Options. On the Advanced tab, scroll to the Security section and
check settings for SSL 2.0, SSL 3.0, TLS 1.0, PCT 1.0.
g.. Click the Back button to try another link.

Does the client recognize the CA that issued the server certificate as a
Trusted CA? Where did the server certificate come from...an internal CA or a
3rd party CA? Also, is the client's Web browser configured to use SSL?
Please let me know. Duke

Duke,

The certificate came from verisign and the whole path is showing ask OK!!

The client cant even access the site so there is no way of knowing if it can
read the certificate.

Did you register the certificate with the name of the web server that you're
trying to access? You might also want to make sure that you bind the IP
address to the Site you're serving up to make sure the server name gets
bound properly.

Is it possible that there is a firewall between the client and server or some
other form of filter that is not allowing the SSl connection. The port that
must be enabled is TCP/UDP 443. Please let me know. Thanks, Duke

Doug,

This link no longer works and I have the same exact issue on my web server.
It provided a fix for Davie. Do you know where the article went?

I appreciate your help.

Hey Lloyd,
That link worked for me. Its not a fix but allows you to download a tool
which will tell you if there is a problem with the certificate or some
misconfiguration on the server. Try this link again :
"
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=cabea1d0-5a10-41bc-
83d4-06c814265282&DisplayLang=en"
If it still doesn't work, browse to http://download.microsoft.com and in
the keywords section type "ssldiag"

Good luck,
