    - No "Security" tab for files I'm getting "Permission Denied" in Windows XP Pro in an IIS ASP classic application, while trying to use the FileSystemObject to write a file. This is a developer workstation. I'm used to using Windows NT Server, then Windows 2000 Server, then Windows 2003 Server, as a combination standalone workstation/server for my office. I am used to being able to freely modify the files' ACL using the Security tab in the files' or folders' Security tab. But after getting a new workstation with Windows XP Pro, I see that the Security tab is stripped out. Is there a setting in the Local Security Settings or some other place where I can have access to the security settings for the files, to return this Security tab?! I am a web developer and I cannot afford to have to upload to the server for every stupid test run for my web apps, just to be able to write files on the web server. Keep getting "Permission Denied", and I can't do a thing about it. The User access settings in the FP2002 web admin pages don't seem to help even when I add IUSR_[LOCALHOST] as an author.     - Pages out of IIS6 automatically refreshing over and over... This may or may not be an IIS issue. I provide an image hosting service, using an Coyote e350 load balancer, and a cluster of 8 Windows 2003 Server (standard) web servers. The website (www.domain.com) is set up on the load balancer as a "sticky" cluster. Thumbnails are provided by a separate web site (thumbs.domain.com), on a separate "virtual" cluster on the load balancer that doesnt' provide sticky sessions. The problem we're running into is a handful of users (10 out of 400,000 active users) are experiencing automatic page refreshes when viewing "albums" which display their images using the thumbnail service. In most cases the entire HTML of the page will render, and a few thumbnails will display (there are up to 20 per page), then the page refreshes itself, sometimes repeatedly (we've been told 5-10 times by users), but usually ending with a "server cannot be found page" (this is not a "friendly http" message, but the standard IE- generated error page when a domain cannot be contacted (so disabling friendly HTTP errors has no effect). The thumbnail service (again, different site, different IP for the farm cluster), uses an ASP script to deliver thumbnails, using response.binarywrite from an ADO stream object which reads/loads the thumbnail JPG. Nothing fancy. Content types of the response are correctly set to "image/jpeg". The thumbnails themselves are requested as an ASP script, like: IMG SRC="thumbs.domain.com/index.asp?id=12345" for example. The 12345 is a database identity referencing the record that contains the local file path to the thumbnail. All errors are trapped on the thumbnail scripts, and text messages (with text/plain content type) are delivered when an error occurs. We have been able to reproduce this problem so far as seeing the page refresh one time automatically. This happens with IE 5 to 6. There is no javascript that changes the current URL, and disabling "active scripting" seems to have no effect. There is javascript that adds a clipboard copy, and a "select all/select none" functionality for checkboxes for each thumbnail. Enabling/disabling cookies has no effect. We haven't had reports of this happening anywhere but IE, although 95% of our users are on IE, so that might just be a numbers game. I'm thinking that this is related to the way we request thumbnails--that potential errors are "messing with" the current page rendering and tricking the browser into trying to redirect to some unknown page or refresh. But I wouldn't think any type of response for an IMG SRC request could affect the entire web page. Sometimes this problem won't happen to a user, but then after viewing 4 or 5 album pages, it starts in, and the site basically becomes unusable. I've asked users to verify that they don't have a virus, ad-blocking software, spyware, etc. A few users have been unable to use our site because of this problem. Has anyone run into this before?     - Adding Application Configuration for a Virtual Directory Hi, I was tryying to add a new "Extension to the Application Mappings for a Virtual Directory"; I was able to go to the "Add/Edit Application Extension Mapping" dialog. However, the "OK button" always grayed out. I couldn't seem to add it. I was able to add it before, this issue started to happened after installing the latest Windows XP update. Is there an issue with the security setting? If so, what do I need to do. Please note, that the user has the Computer Administrator previledge. Or could it be a bug with the latest Windows update?     - The server was unable to add the virtual root access denied - found a fix For a while I noticed I was getting errors in my eventlog from IIS about virtual directors in my ASP.NET projects in Visual Studio like: The server was unable to add the virtual root '/TotalCare.Enterprise.ZeroClient.RequestFacility' for the directory 'C:\Visual Studio Projects\TotalCare.Enterprise' due to the following error: Access is denied. In case anyone else gets this error it seemed to be that my C:\Visual Studio Projects folder did NOT have a required security setting... The Everyone group on my local system has to manually be added with full permissions to get rid of this error. Not sure why everyone wasn't there in the first place. IIS showed red stop signs but still allowed me to continue developing. I ran into problems when using NUnitASP to Unit Test my work, it requires access to some files I guess.     - Can't Edit Word Docs, always "Currently in use" Running IIS 4 on an NT4, sp6a machine, whenever we try to edit Word docs ( rename, delete, etc... ) we get a FrontPage error that says something to the effect of "Can't delete/edit (filename), currently in use." HTML, .ASP, and even PowerPoint files never give us a problem. But for some strange reason the Word docs will not let us manage/edit/delete them from a remote client using FrontPage 2003.     - CreateObject for MSHTML/DHTML Hi: As part of an ASP project to run under IIS under Win2K, I need to create a DLL version of our VB 6.0 program that happens to use the Triedit dhtmled.ocx control (because of problems in determining when printing has completed using MSHTML object). So I need to create the dhtmled object without actually placing a dhtmled.ocx control on a form, but I can't seem to come up with the right dimension/createobject/set statements. I'm looking for the DHTMLEdit equivalent of the following (which works for the MSHTML object)...     - OnIdle in isapi extension The isapi extension I maintain has a memory leak. I found an article about having to call OnIdle explicitly in Microsoft Knowledge Base Article - 105286, HOWTO: Clean Up Temporary MFC Object in _USRDLL DLLs. I am calling it explicitly without seeing any reduction in memory usage. Is there a best place in which to call this? Currently I call it at the beginning of the entry point.     - 403.1 and EXE errors Prior to installing the latest patches I could put a .EXE in my web directory and then launch that .EXE from a webpage. Now all I get is a 403.1 unauthorized challenge to my NT permissions. I put them in but they do not work and I am the admin on the box. Any ideas how to get around this?     - Caching of some sort??? Just recently we have encountered a weird problem with our webserver...running IIS 5 and W2000 SP4 When testing an ASP page, if you get an error of some sort in your browser, when you go into the code and fix the problem, save the changes, when you refresh the page, the error stays there, even though the code is correct. The problem is not fixed until you rename the page, and the open it in your browser to work fine??     - Site restarts? My web site is hosted on a 2k server (sp3), connecting through a dynamic DSL line. No-IP.com software updates the master DNS every 30 minutes. Every couple days, I have to go into the computer management snap-in, stop and restart the web site (not IIS), so people can see the site. Any reason why this would be? I haven't seen anything in the error logs about it, as IIS is running. The only change from default is to move the site files to a different partition for backup reasons. Any suggestions?     - CGI caching! Hello! We have a CGI-script that will recieve a file about 200MB many times every day. It looks like IIS will recieve the whole file before the CGI-script gets the data.     - Virtual Folder Problems I am having a problem with a virtual directory which resides on a server under a different domain. I have set up the virtual directory so that IIS does not control the password for anon access. The folder contains jpgs and when the site is viewed locally these can be seen, but when viewed externally from the network the jps cannot be seen.     - ADSI problem on Windows 2000 Server Since re-installing IIS5 in October we have been unable to interface with IIS5 using a Web Host Automation tool (Helm). Apparently the problem lies with the ADSI interface. Is it possible to re-install ADSI into Win2000 or obtain the components and install them separately? The KB-article below states that it is not currently available and recommends using Remote Desktop to a Win2003 server.     - Span IIS to multiple volumes? Hello, I have recieved a new server which will be used as both an IIS server and a Windows Media server. In an effort to maximize the total volume size, and due to budgeting issues out of my control, I could not set the server up with RAID5 as I wanted to, taking the 5 physical drives and making them into a SYS volume and storage volume. (RAID5 does this, but also takes something like 20% of the total drive capacity to do so... we need every GB to be available for file storage.) My question is how to attach the 5 drives to my IIS server. I have already attached the 5 drives to my Media server, however I need to be able to link the media files via my IIS. An example of my setup as of current: C: = Windows 2003 server system files D: = CD Rom E: = IIS Home directory, and publish point for WMS F: = Publish point for WMS G: = Publish point for WMS H: = Publish point for WMS I: = Publish point for WMS Any ideas?     - Adding multiple host headers through ADSI not working properly I was wondering if someone could help. I have a scenario where I am trying to set up multiple host headers on a web site using ADSI. Ex: I have a site called www.testsite.com to which I want to assign three host headers like (testsite.com, 123.testsite.com, and testsite). My script creates the site and sets several properties just fine. However, when I check the host headers, there is only one entry with all the three host headers I specified as a concatenated string and delimited with a comma. I would appreciate any help.     - IIS 6.0 Problem on Win Server 2K3 Greetings, I am having a very weird problem. Some how IIS 6.0 running on Win Server 2K3 standard thinks that the default anonymous user doesnt have access to the index.htm in the site directory. I checked the permissions on all dirs from the c:\ down to the file itself and they all say the user can read, i even tried with full permissions. Now this is the interesting part, when i changed the default user to the domain admin, it worked, which i can believe since the domain admin can do everything.     - Requests Queued stays high I am running a database intensive asp site on a new installation of Windows 2003 I am also running performance monitor on the site to watch the requests queued value. It seems like this value likes to stay around 200, making the pages slow for the user. I am looking to find out how i can service more requests because cpu utilzation is realtively low (around 15%). I have serveral websites on an IIS 6/Win2003 box. I've set the security to be anonymous and have given read rights to all of the web folders. Even still I get a login error 401.1 messages. This setup is not extravagant. This situation is recent, for all of the websites were working fine a few days ago. I cannot think of anything I've changed in the subsequent few days

Check that AnonymousUserName and AnonymousUserPass are correct. If this is
a domain member, check that it is synchronized with the local SAM. If this
is a domain controller (or once was a domain controller), check that the
identity is some valid domain user whose account hasn't expired/locked out
recently due to some domain policy.
