    - IIS custom errors stop working after adding web.config We have an IIS 6.0 server running mostly classic ASP applications and use custom errors configured in IIS manager. However, recently we added a few ASP.NET applications to the server and use a web.config file at the root of the site for all of the .NET inherit their connections strings. After adding these .NET applications, the custom error pages for classic ASP apps no longer work. I know that you can configure a web.config with tags for custom errors but does that, by default, override the custom errors configured in IIS.     - IIS 6 HTTP 400 Bad Request Error Dear peoples, At our organisation we are using a program called My@VO. This is running on a w2k3 server (SP1) with IIS 6. We have a website maintained by My@VO within IIS. If I type the name of the website at internet explorer all things are correct. But if I type localhost or http://127.0.0.1 then I get HTTP 400 Bad Request Error. (this is all on the server) If I go on a workstation and type in the IP of the server I also get HTTP 400 Bad Request Error. At the hosts-file on the server is 127.0.0.1 localhost 127.0.0.1 <site-name> If anyone knows how to fix this problem that would be great.     - Problem uploading big files with IIS 6.0 Hi we have a Dell W2K3 R2 Web Edition with 2 Gb of RAM. we have problems when trying to upload big files to server, the bigest file we could upload was around 50 Mb and we need to upload bigger ones. We have tried with several components, like aspsmartupload. Our Metabase settings are AspMaxRequestEntityAllowed 1073741824 AspQueueTimeout 4294967295 (unlimited) AspBufferingOn set 1 Script timeout is set to 900 seconds but it crash before that. It seems to be similar to "FIX: The Response.BinaryWrite method fails when you use it to send files that are larger than 20 MB" (http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;826756) but our ASP.dll version is newer. We also check "You may receive a 403 error when you use an ASP request to upload a large file in Internet Information Services" (http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/327659/en-us) even we didn't get a 403 error message Server logs display ASP_0101_:_80004005|Unexpected_error Any idea about what can we try next?     - Opening up .DOT templates in IE from an intranet Hi, not sure what forum this goes under but i'll give this a try. If create an intranet web page with a standard link to file://somewordtemplate.dot the template itself comes up previewed in the Browser. what I want is for a new document to open based on this Word template. this is what happens i find somewordtemplate.dot on the fileshare through Explorer and double-click on it.     - I published a local web. Does it have an IP address? I published a page I can see in I.E. if I go to c:\inetpub\wwwroot\XXXX.html. Is there any way I can see this page on the WWW? (Note this is published directly on my w2k pro workstation. I have comcast 3 way with no router.     - Where did right-click/Properties go on IIS 7 virtual directory? Here's a question from a non-techie using the UI for Web site setup. I need to set Script Source Access, Read, Log Visits, and Index this Resource and these were on right-click/Properties > Home Directory tab of the virtual directory in IIS 6. There is no Properties there in IIS 7. I expected to find them somewhere in the middle panel but have not come up with the location.     - FTP (urgent): can upload from explorer but not using FTP utility???? Hi, I have an FTP server which works fine. I can upload files using the windows explorer. but when I try to upload files using the FTP command line utility the file is not uploaded. the size is 0bytes on the server and the utility never finish the upload. (I have to press ctrl+c to cancel the session) what's appends???     - Multiple interfaces for redundancy I want to set up IIS 5 on a T1 and DSL line for redundancy. I have done the following configuration which seems to work. The IIS 5 (Windows 2000) server has 2 network interfaces. One interface is plugged into a switch which goes into the router which is on the T1 side, the other interface is plugged into a switch which goes into the DSL side. Each interface is assigned 2 IP addresses. The T1 connected interface has 10.0.0.101 and 10.0.0.102 as it uses NAT. These IPs are NAT'd by the router to our public IP addresses. The DSL side interface is directly assigned 2 public IP addresses (ie. 1.2.3.4 and 1.2.3.5). In IIS configuration, we have 2 websites, the first is bound to 10.0.0.101 and 1.2.3.4 and assigned the host header name of websiteone.ourdomain.com. The second website is bound to 10.0.0.102 and 1.2.3.5 assigned the host header name of websitetwo.ourdomain.com. Both of these websites also run SSL so that is set up as well, this is the reason why I do not have them on the same IP. DNS is configured round-robin, to sometimes give one IP and sometimes give the other IP for each of the websites. All of this seems to work, but I am wondering if there is a better way to set it up. We have recently purchased a new web server which runs Windows 2003 with IIS 6, and I would like to set it up so that it is also load balancing/redundant.     - HELP - Limit connections per IP in IIS6 We are running a large website on Server 2k3 and IIS6 and we are having a huge problem. We have some users that are browsing our site from behind what appears to be a proxy server and when they visit the index page of the site (which has over 100 inside links) the proxy server attemps to open a connection to each and every link at the same time (from the same IP address) Is there a way in IIS that anyone knows of to limit how many simultaneous connections can be allowed per IP address We already set the connection timeout to 15 seconds and max 150 connections in the website properties.     - digest authentication on virtual (networked) directories I'm using digest authentication for access to our intranet and it's working perfectly when the directories are local to the webserver. If I add a virtual directory that points to a directory on another machine (\\server\share\directory etc.), digest authentication no longer works... ...unless I add NETWORK to the directory's ACL list... but when I do that any user with a valid AD account can log on to the directory and the share level ACLs no longer have any effect... If I don't have NETWORK in the ACL list, I get a prompt for authentication 3 times, then a "you are not authorized... etc." error message. Looking through the Security Event log on the web server give me three entries saying the my logon request was successfull, but it seems to be falling over between webserver and network share.     - "Use HTTP 1.1 through proxy connections" I've some customers that cannot connect to my corporate IIS if the have the IE7 option "Use HTTP 1.1 through proxy connections" enabled (as it's as default). If they leave it checked, they see only a blank page. If they uncheck it, they see the web site. I cannot understand if I have some trouble with IIS or other. It seems it started after I applied SP2.     - iis config problem - custom errorpages hi there, I'm using iis 5 to run an asp (not .net) application. I have custom error pages defined for the http errors 500 through 502 with an URL value of /status_500.asp. i then created a testpage which does nothing more then a division by zero, hoping the error-page (there is just a response.write on it) will show up. whatever i do, i always get the standard runtime error page instead of my status_500.asp. replacing the status_500.asp with a static html page doesn't help either. does anyone know this problem? any help is greatly appreceated! /matthias Tag: IIS7 for Borland Developer Studio 2006 Tag: 395785

    - Can't redirect 400 Bad Request in IIS6 Hi - I'm having a problem with IIS 6 on Windows 2003 Server. Here's the basics There's an application that has an URL http://domain/oneparticulardirectory/# embedded in it. The user uses the application, it requests the URL and gets a 400 Bad Request response from IIS. Make sense as requesting # isn't allowed. Problem is I can't change the URL in the application so I need to rewrite the GET request on the fly to something sensible like http://domain/oneparticulardirectory/ or http://domain/oneparticulardirectory/somefile.html This is what I've done so far - Tried using Custom Errors in the IIS Admin mmc snapon but found that IIS deals with 400's at a kernel level so that can't be used (what's the point of having custom error pages to deal with 400 Bad Requests in the IIS control panel if the errors never get that far up the stack to be dealt with by them?) - Tried using ISAPI filters (IISRewrite and Ionic's Isapi Rewrite Filter) to rewrite the URLS. Both do the exact job I want them to do with IIS 5 and both rewrite a variety of other types of requests perfectly with IIS 6, but neither will rewrite 400 Bad Requests on IIS 6. I read somewhere that IIS 6 doesn't allow manipulation of "Raw Read Data" via ISAPI filters anymore - Tried running IIS 6 in IIS 5 protected mode to see if it will behave like IIS 5 and allow the ISAPI filters to rewrite the 400's but it does the same thing as it does in normal IIS 6 mode I'm stumped. Note that I know the real solution is to change the application to stop making the bad request, this can be done but it's going to a take a long time - I need something to rewrite the bad requests in the meantime.     - Can't remove IIS 6 IIS 6 is installed and running on our SBS2003 server, but I need to remove it and reinstall it to solve a different problem. The kicker is, IIS is not listed in the "Add/Remove Windows Components" under "Add/Remove Programs". Anybody else ever see this?     - Hosting a web site while using a different DNS mangt co Hi guys, I have a friend that has a web site being developed by a web hosting company and they are telling him that because they are hosting his web site they also have to manage his DNS records. His domain is registered with NetSol so he is using their DNS servers. He has the www.... enrty pointing to the IP that the web hosting company gave him for his web server. It resolves to the home page, and other links on the site, but sometimes the links will go back to NetSol as that is the default failover.     - IIS 5.1 on Xp MCE renders ASP.NET 2.0 pages as Http 500 error! Hi all guru, for sure I'm too old for a bunch of no-sleep-nights. M$' drivin' me nut. Switching my ASP.NET 1.1 apps to 2.0 has made me tryin' for several days with no success. -My IIS5.1 (Xp Media Center, SP2) refuses to serve even the simplest aspx page (1 button + 1 textBox), rendering only "Server Application Error The server has encountered an error while loading an application during the processing of your request" -Service log reports:Il server non =E8 in grado di caricare l'applicazione '/LM/W3SVC'. Errore: 'Impossibile trovare i metadati specificati. (The server is not able to load '/LM/W3SVC'. Simple, or complex, only-Html pages are served correctly, even if created by VS2005. Even the simplest aspx page renders as Http500. -I've read tons of NG, followed advices and tricks -Same config on Xp Pro SP2 runs flawlessly, with same apps. -I've spent some hours trying to run IIS 7 (with IIS 6.0 compatibility) on Vista Ultimate (Centrino duo T7200, 1GB, Mobility Radeon 1600 + 512 dedicated DDR), but it's a nightmare!     - IIS 7.0 with Windows Vista and .NET 2003 Hi! I'm sure you all must have gone through this error, Error while trying to run project: Unable to start debugging on the web server. Can someone help me with this? I've tried everything. I have Windows Vista Business. My first thought was to add my current login user to Debugger Users group, I did that, but to no avail...i tried to add my IP http://192.168.15.101 to my trusted sites, with no luck. I played with VS .NET configuration settings to enable ASP .NET debugging. Even tried it with enabling remote debugging (since i figured maybe it wasnt able to figure out the differnce between local host and 192.168.15.101) I tried resetting my intranet and my internet default settings. I'm using .NET 1.1, so I checked my bindings for both my website as well as the virtual directory inside it. I tried giving the isapi.dll read/ scripts/execute permissions! i tried rebooting! :-P, oh and I tried changing my IP to localhost (127.0.0.1) in IIS, and then my error message changed to this ------ Error while trying to run project: Unable to start debugging on the web server. You do not have permissions to debug the server. ------- I also tried to change my folder permissions, I added every user I could think of on that folder and gave it full access. I'm out of ideas, and this is driving my crazy! Any help would be appreciated...for some reason I havent enjoyed working with IIS 7, is that just me, or does everyone think that?     - Kerberos, NLB, Windows 2000 AD, Windows 2003 Server I am trying to setup Kerberos to work on an NLB Cluster which consists of two Windows 2003 servers. Our Active Directory is functioning on a Windows 2000 level. I have read that this is possible but all of the instructions that I have been able to find start with set an item in 2003 AD. I can run web applications using ASP.NET against the individual Host Servers but not the NLB Cluster (Virtual Server). I have read numerous articles and tried a redirect workarounds as well as followed instructions given on numerous pages -- nothing seems to provide a complete solution.     - CANNOT CONNECT TO IIS 6.0 Trying to simply connect to an IIS 6.0 web site that I believe I set up correctly for WebDAV sharing with a publishing tool. I created a virtual specifically for web editing and granted permissions accordingly on the web server. I try to connect from Expressions Web, get prompted for security, it accepts my username and password and I get the directory listing on the live site. When I try to open a page for editing I get a long delay and then I get an HTTP 1.1/403 Forbidden error. Sometimes I get an Internal Server Error...what gives?     - Windows authentication and login dialog box Hi, I am trying to configure an intranet site with windows authentication on windows 2003 server. The server and clients are part of win2003 domain. If i type http://servername in the addressbar, then the user gets loged on automatically, no problem. But if i type http://servername.domain.com in the addressbar, then the user gets a login dialog box even though users are on the local network.     - IIS in an AD as a member server and extending FrontPage I need to find out if this is possible. I have an Windows 2003 AD environment with two member servers (W2003 WSE) that server out public and private websites. I need to extend sites on one of the member servers for FrontPage. This function works and the site shows as extended and manageable through IIS manager. I create a user account on either the local server as a local account, OR as a domain user in AD and make them members of the OWS group (a local group on the member server - created when the site is extended) and neither will authenticate through FrontPage.     - Missing tracelog after exceptions Hi, I am running a ASP.NET 2.0 web service under IIS 6 and Windows Server 2003 64Bit. Usually when an exception is raised during a request processing there is an error message in the tracelog (trace.axd). In my case, all requests that raise an exception are not listed in the tracelog. First of all I thought of a deadlock or a never ending timeout but after some tests I found out that even divisions by zero terminate the page processing on serverside. After the exception the asp.net worker process stops working (0% in task manager), no tracelog entry is made and the browser is still waiting for a response. Do you have any ideas how to handle this?     - IIS DIAGNOSTICS TOOL - Could not open specified dump file I am attempting to use the IIS Diagnostics Tool to analyse a dump file however, I continually get the Script Summary stating that the IISAnalysis.asp failed - error code 0X800004005. It doesn't state the Error Source but the Error description is "Could not open specified dump file" and it provides a line and column which changes depending on the script being analysed...     - Intermittent Kerberos authentication failure We're running into intermittent authentication failure with Kerberos with our web application that results in 401 Unauthorized errors. Here is an overview of the environment: . The webapp is running on server A. It is configured for impersonation. The worker process is running under a service account (which is a domain account) and is enabled for delegation. SPN is setup appropriately & AuthenticationProvider is configured to use kerberos (Negotiate). . The web app turns around and calls a webservice running on Server B. This is also configured similar to the first server (trusted for delegation, correct SPN setup & AuthenticationProvider set to Negotiate) >From a client machine, accessing the webapp which in turn accesses the webservice works well for the most part... the end-user kerberos credentials are being passed to the web service as expected. But occassionally (frequency ranges between rare to once a week to number of clients exhibiting this symptom all at once) the client encounters 401 unauthorized errors. So we wrote a simple app that mimics the web app behavior that calls the web service & display the identity of the user, authentication type, impersonation level etc. We do see the authentication type mysteriously switch to NTLM for a brief while before switching back to Kerberos again. That explains the failure of the webapp call to webservice but we're not sure why the Kerberos authentication fails sometimes. This is somewhat harder to explain why this fails at seemingly random times. We've looked at Network Monitor captures, Kerberos logs, played with KerbTray/Klist to purge the tickets and mostly we see the expected behavior. We're running out of ideas and are no longer sure what we should be looking for... in logs, captures etc. Anyone else experiencing similar issues? Ideas anyone?     - Smart Client that can handle postdata Hi, there We have currently a Java Applet based solution that we would like to rewrite to a .NET solution. The scenario is the following: 1. Starter Client application opens up a web browser window and makes a HTTP request with a big raw postdata to a remote server. 2. In this web browser window a Java Applet based application shall start and he will retrieve the posted data and he will work with it. Now I want something similar but IIS is throwing back my request if I am posting data too. I would like that when I do my web request for my smart client with postdata than IIS would not stop the request and my application would be able to load the data form the standard input. I was thinking also to an ASP preload page that would start the smart client. ASP solution is not sufficient because we need a "rich" client. However there might be possible to build with custom controls a "rich" ASP page. Here is more concretely what I was able to achieve: 1. Make the request from a standalone program with System.Windows.Forms.WebBrowser.Navigate(anUrl, "", aPostData, ""); where my anUrl is the published smart client. Something like this: "http://localhost/SmartClient/ SmartClient.application". In this case IIS stops the request due to the posted data and displays a: "The page cannot be displayed The page you are looking for cannot be displayed because the page address is incorrect." If a aPostData is null than the Smart Client is started, but then the data is not posted. Here the question is how should I configure or achieve that IIS transfers the postdata. 2. Make the request from a standalone program with System.Windows.Forms.WebBrowser.Navigate(anUrl, "", aPostData, ""); where my anUrl is a an asp page a supposed preloader. I can receive the data, but I can not redirect the call to the smart client in such way that the postdata is transferred too. I can redirect the to the smart client but I can not transfer the data too. How should I proceed to find a way or there is a sample application somewhere?     - IISADMPWD - Thinking cap required Well I'm sure they've been seen before and if the situation were not different I might even recall having asked a similar question before - ahhh but things change. Exchange 2k3sp2 Front-Back Config running on w2k3sp1 servers. Previously I used 1 e2k3 server (which just so happened to be a DC) and the iisadmpwd site worked fine after reading and executing http://support.microsoft.com/kb/833734. I've added a front end server which I enabled for iisadmpwd like I did the back (all the same steps) the Front-End is a member server of the domain. The front's site works except for the expired password page (aexp3.asp). When using this page to reset an expired password the page grinds for a minute and eventually reports: Error: Invalid username or password I've copied all the pages from the BE server to the FE server, re-registered the iispwchg.dll and set the passwordchangeflags to 0. Also note that the aexp2b.asp page (for resetting not yet expired passwords) works fine but appears to be a bit more critical on password complexity than the previous version or the domain security policy.     - FTP idle connections get reset before timeout I have a Windows 2003 Standard Server. When I connect via FTP, if I remain idle for a minute and a half to 2 minutes, my connection gets disconnected (though my server thinks I am still connected). My timeout is set to 300 seconds and increasing it even further has no effect. This happens on both active and passive modes, with multiple clients, and from multiple places. If I completely disable Windows Firewall, the problem goes away. I have been told that this is a known issue with ALG and there is no way to fix it short of not using the built-in Firewall.     - Microsoft IIS Installation *@(&#&*(@#( HI All, I recently asked a someone to get a basic computer to be used as a basic test IIS server from Dell. He asked me what operating system should be put on it, and I told him that it was not important, that he should get whatever was cheapest. We got Vista Home Basic edition. I would like to state before continuing that were are both experienced developers with both GUI and device driver experience, as well as having developed ISAPI DLL's, so if we are having so much trouble with IIS, it is not due to our own stupidity. That said, first thing we tried was to run a browser, type in 'localhost', see what happened. I am away from the machine now, but if I recall correctly, a 404.4 message was generated. I checked installed services, looking for Internet Information Service or WWW Service or something like that. Didn't see much. We went to something in control panel regarding IIS, a tree control with hierarchy of things related to IIS, typically with word "management" or "manager" or "console" in it, but nothing that seemed to be IIS itself. We decided to install Home Premium, since it appeared to come with IIS, and at this moment, my colleague is screwing around with the settings, trying to get it to work. [I'm about to vomit while thinking about the experience...] Anyhow, there is someone here who probably knows what is going on/what happened. I would very much appreciate it if you told us. And please, do not baby us. A few months ago I tried everything I could to get BDS2006 to access IIS7
with no success (debugger wouldn't work).

Any new hints for Vista Ultimate final x64? It seems to have both IIS6 and
IIS7 installed and all versions of .Net Framework (ie. 1, 2 and 3), but I
know BDS will use 1.1.
