I am running Exchange Server 2000 on my only Windows 2000 DC, and utilizing
Outlook Web Access, as well as POP, IMAP and MAPI.
It also hosts an FTP site.
Over the weekend, it rendered itself useless, twice, because the IIS Admin
Service shut down unexpectedly :

Event Type: Error
Event Source: Service Control Manager
Event Category: None
Event ID: 7031
Date: 9/20/2004
Time: 4:25:35 AM
User: N/A
Computer: KTEXCHANGE
Description:
The IIS Admin Service terminated unexpectedly. It has done this 1 time(s).
The following corrective action will be taken in 0 milliseconds: No action.

When this happens, it shuts down all the Exchange Services, SMTP and FTP
because they are listed as dependencies.
I have been researching this all morning, but have not found a satisfactory
answer - most reasons state that it fixed by Service pack 2 or 3 - I am on
SP 4.
Another talks about a known "bug" but refers to the contents of the "crash
dump". (It doesn't crash, it just shuts down - I can restart all the
services "after the fact" manually, without rebooting)
I have (honestly) not made any changes for months.
I have instituted a "workaround" to restart the services, or reboot, if the
service fails again, but I would be more comfortable finding a "solid"
reason.
Any help greatly appreciated
