    - How to limit the number of CGI threads I am having a problem with IIS 6 spawning too many CGI threads at one time. We have backend limitations on the number of CGI transactions that can be supported at any one time and would like to find a way to throttle them back to a set number of simultaneous transactions. Is there a way to handle this within IIS 6? Previous versions off IIS we had to tweak the registry to support more threads. IIS has no longer has the limitations and that has moved the problem upstream from the web server and I would like to find a way to put a cap on the number of transactions at any given time.     - perl on iis, works but not when 'called' from form installed activePerl and can run '.pl' files directly from a virtual website by invoking them directly with my browser but when i try to invoke the same .pl file from web page with form post, i.e, <form method="post" action="perlFileName.pl" ....... i get a 'can't find' error message the website works ok if i use .asp files with the form, it seems iis just doesn't know where to find the .pl i can't find anywhere where i'm supposed to set that 'path' or whatever anybody been thru this??     - Help: IIS6 stops application pools We got this error for weeks now: After upgrading to IIS6, some of our websites with much asp-code got problems. These sites worked for a long time without any problems on iis4. The server stops responding in periodical distances of a day or two. There is NO message in the event log. We decided to create different application pools for each website and separate them. We found out that there are two sites which causes a failure of the service and enabled the automatic recycling every 30 minutes. But how can we find the error in our code?     - IIS 6 and Novell shares I have a fresh 2003 server install with IIS 6 of course. When I map a virtual directory to a Novell server it all looks fine in IIS. When I browse to a simple HTM file contained in the share I get "The network name cannot be found." This exact same set up works correctly on my 2000 server with IIS 5. Thoughts?     - MS Newsgroup and the MS Updates... Now this is funny... Not really but wouldn't ya just like to get a grip on one or two of these yahoos and kick their freakin little butt? Up and until yesterday when I was posting in this Newsgroup I was using my personal email address and it was the ONLY email account that I was receiving these virus based Updates from Microsoft, yesterday I got this brainy idea to use my Hotmail account instead and today I log in to my Hotmail account and there they are 15 MS updates that are really not updates at all. So guess what folks someone is taking all of our email addresses from this Newsgroup and sending us these really nice MS updates...     - IIS site works slow. Hi, Pls guide me in solving the below issue.. Our site sometimes is working too slow and sometimes it works fine,Its is java with sqlserver as backend. Its in OLTP for banking ..web enabled. Server Config is as under Db Server. + Appl Server (Javaw) ---------- Db Size is : 6 gb Server : Compaq Proliant ML350 G2 CPU : Intel PIII 1.133 GHz * 2 Ram : 2 GB (512*4) 3 * 36.4 GB 10K U3 HP 1.174 TB (6 x 146.8 GB 1Â² with standard internal hot plug drive cage + (2 x 146.8 GB 1Â² ) with optional ML3xx Internal Two Bay Hot Plug SCSI Drive Cage) Log and Data files are on same hdd : Raid Level 5.. Web server : Same config with JRun and IIS.(also some schedules running on which hits db after every 10 mins in jave for email etc) We are unable to trace the issues...site sometimes is dead..and sometimes works fine. I check db proc's and indexes..it is not proper and sometimes one or two processes are getting blocked(but this happen in 3-4 days)...Usuage of tempdb is also high..but we had schedule our processes which truncates tempdb time to time..I had advised some indexes + optimzied most of the procedures..(this is in test server) --- and after all we had installed OS + IIS of web server..WE HAD CHECKD ONE THING..WHEN SITE IS SLOW ITS WORKING WITH JRUN(DIFFT PORT) BUT WITH IIS ITS DEAD SLOW...     - Changes in IIS6 I have an ASP application that works in IIS5 but not IIS6 worker process model (it works ok in IIS6 when it is running in IIS5 Isolation mode). The application is failing when at a point where a COM object implementing my business logic is using the catalyst socket controls to talk to a TCP/IP socket on a remote machine, there is no data being sent or received. However the same COM object does talk to a SQL database on the same remote machine using TCP/IP. I have tried running the web site under a new Application Pool and configuring that application pool to runs as the LocalSystem account and a few other accounts in case it is access to resources that is causing the problem but this also did not work. I don't think my application requires inetinfo.exe, read raw data filters or dllhost.exe which all need IIS5 Isolation mode as documented in the online help. Does anybody know what other changes have been made to IIS6 that could be causing this problem as I don't want to insist our customers configure their 2003 server to run in IIS5 isolation mode and lose all the new enhanced features of IIS6 ?     - IIS5 and SSL causing 'Client Authentication Popup' Hey all, Been racking my brain to find the cause of this and am at a loss. Our IIS tech rebuilt the IIS/Exchange server including the installation of our SSL certificate. Now, when anyone accesses an https:// they get a 'Client Authentication' popup with the message 'The website you want to view requests identification. Select the certificate to use when connecting.' The certificate list is empty even though I have successfully imported the sites certificate. You can just click ok and the site appears with 128-bit but the pop up is annoying. It did not do this in previous setup and I am assuming that there is a check box somewhere but can't seem to locate it. IIS 5 on Win 2K.     - IIS not serving up pages on XP I have installed IIS on my new laptop which uses XP Pro. All the services appear to be working, but no pages are served up in the browser. I have not been able to get this working since I bought the laptop. Locallost just hangs, so there is not error message.     - IIS6 - Integrated Authentication Probs hello again. Further to my last post "IIS 6 help! - Cant authentication to Virtual Dir on another machine" I am still struggling with this. It seems that when I use "integrated authentication" that the credentials parsed from my browser to the web server are not being used correctly by the webserver to authenticate me on the target resource: The target resource - as I mentioned - is located on another machine. How do I know this? a) - I can see in the log files that the correct credentials are being parsed from my browser to the webserver. b) - Despite the fact these credentials are being parsed, i'm still being asked to present credentials by way of the browser 'Username and Password' dialogue box. c) - Even if I manually present valid credentails at this dialogue box, I'm still not able to authenticate to the target resource. After 3 attempts at entering info into the Dialogue, I get the same 401.3 Error - "Unauthorized: Access is denied due to an ACL set on the requested resource" Hence - this is a general problem with the way the web server is using my credentials to authenticate with the target resource. If I change the Authentication method from "Integrated" to "Basic", I am always prompted for credentials, this is expected. This time, if I enter valid credentials, then the Web Server give me access to the resource I need. So the problem here seems to be in how the IIS6 Web Server parses my credentials for authentication on the target resource, but ONLY when its handling it via INTEGRATED AUTHENTICATION I thought that it might be something to do with NTLM versus Kerberos, but this just adds to my confustion as in my test instance everything should be working with Kerberos, Heres the setup. Its a W2K3 native mode domain, with a W2K3 Web Server and IIS 6. The client machine is WinXP Pro SP1a The user and computer accounts are both members of this W2K3 Domain, I'm trying to digest the info I've found in the arcticle 332142, I'll also try manually setting the authentication method by adapting the IIS5 procedure given in 215383, Bu I'm completely in the dark here.     - Page loads endless with SSL, IIS 6 and IE 6 SP1 Hi everyone When I'm connecting to our secure website https://www.helvetic.com with an Internet Explorer 6 SP1 and make a couple of clicks, suddenly the browser loads the whole page but never gets to an end of the loading process. The flag is still waving, clicking on an hyperlink does not have any effect. A couple of minutes waiting, "cannot find server or DNS Error" is displayed. That does only happen when I'm using IE 6 SP1 (no SP seems to work, as well as Opera) and SSL. The webserver is an IIS 6. Anybody out there who's got the same problem?     - Authentication with tomcat Hello, I have a problem with IIS (I think): I'm doing a servlet that work under Tomcat 4.1. She ask for authentication and check in a database for user and password. She work fine directly in Tomcat access (8080 port). But when I try to launch it trougth IIS (isapi_redirect.dll : IIS -> ISAPII -> Tomcat), it doesn't work... It's like if IIS make an own authentication... In fact I see that the http header variable "Authorization" is always void when I call the servlet trougth IIS and is setted trougth Tomcat (8080).     - Horrible memory leak I've noticed dllhost.exe growing larger and larger. I looked at back posts and the response was a object collection problem in the coding. Well, to test this, I took a one line ".html" file and changed the extension to ".asp" Still does it. There is no server side parsing done on this page, just the word "test" on the client end.     - How to turn off an Information Logging related to NNTP Dear Microsoft Engineers, Recently, after I installed an IIS on my W2K server, there are lots of Information Logging related to NNTP. The event ID is 420 and 421. The 420's content is "Pickup Directory Status Report. In the last 60 minutes, the pickup directory for virtual server 1 has successfully received 0 articles." The 421's content is "Post Status Report. In the last 60 minutes, the virtual server 1 has successfully received 0 posts." How can I turn off such a logging on the System Log....?     - XP Pro's IIS 5.1 I was trying to do a performance test of a .NET Web Service running on XP Pro's IIS 5.1 and I started to get an exception (...WebException...Access Forbidden...) when I run more than 10 client threads concurrently. I just realise the problem (which I suspect to be) when I read one of the previous posts from MS MVP mentioning that XP Pro's IIS 5.1 is limited in terms of connections. So, does this mean that XP Pro's IIS 5.1 can only accept up to 10 concurrent requests only? If my point is right, how do I go around solving this problem in order to run my test with more than 10 concurrent client requests in XP Pro? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.     - IIS web content replication via internet Hi I would like some advice with the following. We're planning to have two standalone win2k or Win2k3 servers running IIS: one production server and the other for DR purposes. Webe content is failry static. The two servers are at different sites and the only way they can talk to each other is via the internet. What I'd like to do is have a automated scheduled replication of web content that has changed on the Production server to the DR server done over the internet securely.     - IIS disappears under XP Pro Until recently I was working with PWS under Win 98 but now run XP Pro SP1. I installed some webs I'm currently working on, went to change the default root web as per Help, and now not only is the server not running (http://localhost/ just times out) but when I double-click on the IIS entry in Administrative Tools I get a momentary hourglass then nothing. Task Manager reveals that MMC is running but there's no visual interface to work with. MMC still works fine with SQL Server Enterprise Manager. I tried reinstalling SP1 but this made no difference.     - Can requests for page parts be coerced to the same server I anticipate a problem that may occur when we deploy our reports on web farms. We have reports that generate both tabular and graphic output in a single Recordset pass. Each report page request writes a temporary graph GIF. Subsequently, another request for the GIF is issued due to an IMG tag on the report page: <IMG SRC="IMG.asp?graph123.gif"> IMG.asp responds with the GIF that was generated by the report page request. The problem I anticipate is that requests for GIF files may be directed to different servers on the web farm than the server on which the GIF is written, resulting in a "File not found" error from IMG.asp. It could be solved by having IMG.asp generate the GIF by reissuing the query but this would double SQL Server's workload. Using a network drive to store the GIF could also solve it but this is not an option because network share access will be disabled on the web farm for security reasons. Is this a problem? Does it depend on the type of web farm and/or web farm configuration? Is there a work around that can coerce requests for the graph GIFs back to the same server?     - Why is microsoft.com running on Linux? Sometime ago a friend of mine told me that www.microsoft.com was running on Linux and I also saw some articles on the net saying that, but I couldn't believe it until today when I saw it with my own eyes. I was told to go to www.netcraft.com and plug in microsoft.com on the search and oh boy they were right! Every server that I clicked in the results were showing that microsoft.com is running on Linux, so I did my research and the explanation that I saw was that the MS-DNS servers were terribly bugged down with the latest security flaws that they had to relay on Linux.     - Cannot install IIS 6.0 Resource Kit Tools Hello: I downloaded IIS 6.0 Resource Kit Tools from Microsoft site and trying to install them on Windows Server 2003. The installation shows success, no error messages. However, nothing is installed. It should be in C:\Program Files\IIS Resources, but this folder is not created. If I create a folder (i.e. c:\IIS6RK) myself and do a custom installation into this folder, it stays empty. What could be a problem? I tried this on two computers.     - That whole ASP shutting off problem I've seen several posts about this, and was wondering if anyone has a solution yet: Hosted on a Windows 2003 server, ASP pages just stop loading, and don't produce any errors (the load status bar of the browser just slowly increases infinitely until you cancel the load). All html pages work fine, and the ASP service must be restarted (recycled) to get the ASP pages working again. This has been a pretty consistent problem with my website and two separate hosting companies. The current hosting company is telling me that they have no way to detect, trace, or log ASP errors, and that neither Windows 2003 server nor IIS 6 has any way to do so. How is that possible? Is the only way to track down a problem with ASP to look through every page's code line by line, and with the human eye predict what will cause an error? I'm not an expert programmer, but isn't this an absolutely outlandish claim? How can a hosting company claim that there is no way with the technology and software they're using to find any errors that lead up to ASP stopping? Or even any ASP error period, like an invalid object, or incorrect path? Anyway, any feedback on this would be most helpful. Recycling the ASP service is fine and all, but I'm trying to do things right and track down the actual cause, which I feel must be something about the ASP code.     - HELP!!! I don't have a clue as to what I could have done to my website. The site is still working but all of a sudden I can't open Internet Service Manager or SharePoint Adminstrator.     - IIS and ASP.NET I just finished loading a new laptop running WinXP Pro. I installed IIS, got every update available, including all the .NET Framework updates. I loaded MS Visual Studio.NET 2003. I bring up Studio.NET and try to create an ASP.NET web application and get a message that "the specified web server is not running ASP.NET version 1.1" even though I can clearly see that version 1.1 of the framework is installed. Hello,

I am getting a Access Denied error when I attempt to
restart IIS using the MMC or the iisreset command from
the command prompt.

I am in the local administrator group. Does anyone know
how I begin to start troubleshooting this? IIS 5 on
Win2k, SP3.

When do you see the error? What is in the Event Logs (System, Application
and Security)?

Check permissions on C:\Winnt , C:\Winnt\System32 and
C:\Winnt\System32\Inetsrv as well as C:\Program Files\Common Files.

Also make sure you don't have any domain policies that might be causing an
issue.
