IIS 6.0 crashing
Hi all,
I have a .Net 2.0 Web Application running on server 2003.
sometimes it crashes, probalbly somewhere inside a soap call with the
following error message in the application log of the event viewer.
"Source NET Runtime 2.0 Error Reporting
Faulting application w3wp.exe, version 6.0.3790.1830, stamp 42435be1,
faulting module kernel32.dll, version 5.2.3790.1830, stamp 424377d2,
debug? 0, fault address 0x00015dea."
Any ideas on how to proceed tracking this error? should i use iisstate?
thanks in advance

Web site error
Can anyone help with a problem that i have please. I write and design web
sites and use a reseller account for those web sites. I am now testing a
VPS server using iis 6, i have no idea what version off iis is on the
reseller acount, but all pages worked fine. My web site generates invoices
and emails the client the invoice, in this email is a link to click to make
an online payment, similar to http://www.mysite.co.uk/mp.asp?o=1234&b=y, if
the link is clicked the page displayed is the sites index page, if i then
copy and paste the above url into the browser the correct page displays. In
an attempt to find the problem i created a new folder called pay and then
placed the asp page in that folder and renamed it mp.asp to index.asp, then
retyped the lick above to http://www.mysite.co.uk/pay/index.asp?o=1234&b=y,
i found that when i clicked the link the address bar showed
http://www.mysite.co.uk/index.asp with the query string missing. Finally i
have noticed that if i do not close the browser down and then go back to my
email client and then click the link the correct page opens up in a new
window, but this only works if i dont close the first window.
Can anyone help here please?
TIA

Installing to the GAC
I have a strong named assembly. It installs fine on my XP Pro Machine via
the .net configuration tool. When I use the same tool to install it on a
W2003 machine it says it isn't strongly named.
As I don't have vs.net. Ihave been compliling my vb file as a module and
then using al.exe to sign it with a strong name. It seems to work on my
machine. When I copy the dll to the 2003 machine it doesn't. Does it need
any additional files than the dll. Also the W2003 machine is .net v2 whereas
my machine is .net v1. The 2003 machine is a brand new installation of 2003,
which I don't know much about other than it is 'locked down'. Could there be
some kind of permissions issue?
Any ideas? Regards, Chris. Tag: IIS 6 ASP.NET caching static files Tag: 374029
3 servers - 2 hanging HELP!
I'll start out by saying I am BSA / Web developer being thrown into the deep
end of trying to figure out why our application is all of a sudden hanging.
We have three web servers and one database server dedicated to one ASP vended
application. Two of the web servers were part of the original installation
by the vendor. The application is used throughout the year, but most
heavily from September to February. Because of additional users, we built a
3rd machine just to be safe and put it in the farm a couple months ago.
Everything seemed to be fine until a couple weeks ago when usuage started to
pick up. Two of the web servers now hang over time (usually every few
hours), never usually at the same time, which is resolved by rebooting the
server until it then happens the next time. If you view the performance
monitor, the current connections just starts flying off the charts but if you
look at the database sessions, we may only have a dozen or so at most. The
new web server seems has not yet had an issue. For now, we have drained the
two boxes from the load balancer, allowing the 3rd server to handle all the
traffic. All three boxes are Windows 2000 SP 4. We have uninstalled and
reinstalled the application. We had the vendor walk through their
configuration. Their suggestion ....rebuild the original two boxes. Well,
having to deal with Corporate IT and the paperwork necessary (and all the
darn politics and approvals) to make this happen is not our first choice as
we are in the midst of our most busy time. Is there ANYTHING anyone can
think of that we should look at that might be different between the two boxes
and the new box? There's got to be something but right now it feels like I'm
chasing ghosts....
Thanks in advance for ANY suggestions.... Tag: IIS 6 ASP.NET caching static files Tag: 374026

1 central IIS server for ASP.NET development
I'd like to know if this dev set-up is possible with ASP.NET 2.0 projects.
I want to create a central server called \\Central for all developers to
keep their ASP.NET 2.0 web project source code online. Each developer will
be assigned an IIS port.
For example, Joe will have \\Central\WebProject_Joe as his source code
directory.
And http://central:1234 will be Joe's port.
Each team member will have their own installed version of VS 2005 or Visual
Web Developer Express Edition 2005 on their workstations.
Will the developers be able to compile to \\Central and execute their web
applications directly on \\Central instead of on localhost?

Quantifying Availability
How can I prove uptime (or quantify downtime) on an ASP.NET 1.1 Web
application (running on an IIS6 Windows Server Standard server)?
What's going on here is that I'm considering the feasability of claiming or
at least establishing some percentage of availability for our production Web
site (99.9%, or 99.99%, or 99.999% "five nines). Of course I'll only
advertise the fact if I can establish it objectively (and it's at least 3
nines :) For those interested, here's a link to an article that describes
what each of those percentages actually means in terms of downtime:
http://searchnetworking.techtarget.com/generic/0,295582,sid7_gci1064318,00.html
So, in IIS6 or perhaps some other feature I could build into our ASP.NET Web
application, is there some way to objectively and accurately measure
downtime or uptime? I'm specifically interested in quantifying the
availability of the ASP.NET Web application.
Suggestions? Thoughts? Perspective?

to go to my IP address. So far so good, yes?
Now, when I try to view my page I get an warning stating that I am not

the ASPNET account. I also just ran a permissions wizard on the directory in
IIS and selected that this site is a public website.

Creating Virtual directory from remote directory
Hi,
I dont know why I cannot do this so I am posting it here. I have IIS 6.0
environment in my webserver which runs on Win2003. Everything has been
working on the server okay. I am trying to create a new virtual directory
from remote directory, but it just does not work.
The remote server has FAT filesystem and we use NOVELL user account to log
on to it. When I tried to create a virtual directory I put the full UNC to
the remote directory as the path and also specified the domain/user and
password in the authentication.
After I created the virtual directory if I try to browse it through the web
it says "The network name cannot be found. "
Has anyone experienced this?
I will appreciate any response.

Uploading files
We currently have two servers. SCO Unix Open Server 5.0.7 I think is the
version and a Windows Server 2003. Our website is hosted on our Windows
server. I have setup some secure pages on the server so clients can upload
data files to us. These data files are just text based files that we import
into our collecton software. Currently I have the files uploading to a
directory on the Windows server and nofity me via email that they have been
uploaded. I then have to move them to a Samba partition on the Unix box.
When the files are there I notify the person in the office that the files
have been uploaded and she runs menu process in our collection software to
load them into our system.
I want to be able to have the files uploaded directly to the right directory
on the Unix servers Samba partition. I can then modify my script to send
email to the proper party. I have a login script that maps the Samba
partition to all of our Windows clients, as well as the server. I have tried
to modify my upload script to loads the files to the directory on the Samba
partition using the UNC path. I have tried using the mapped drive letter.
It always fails because of authentication errors. Tag: IIS 6 ASP.NET caching static files Tag: 373930
IIS + PHP + network share + POST
Hello NG,
i have an weird problem with IIS 6.0 + PHP 5.0.5. I have enabled
"Anonymous access" and "Integrated Windows authentication", because i
want to be able to log on the users from the LAN automatically. I
should also be possible for other users=B4s to login in via a normal
loginpage. Furthermore i have to read and write files from a
networkshare. So i have created a new Domainuser with the required
rights. This is the one which is used for "Anonymous access".
The whole thing works almost fine except for one situation.
When a page sends a form with POST i cannot access the network share.
An example script:
<html>
<body>
<form action=3D"test.php" method=3D"POST">
<input name=3D"Test" type=3D"Text">
<input name=3D"Submit" type=3D"Submit">
</form>
<?php
session_start();
if(!isset($_SESSION['user'])) {
if ($_SERVER['REMOTE_USER'] =3D=3D "") {
Header('WWW-authenticate: Basic realm=3D"Intranet"');
Header('HTTP/1.0 401 Unauthorized');
exit;
}
else {
$_SESSION['user'] =3D
substr(strstr($_SERVER['AUTH_USER'],'\\'),1);
}
}
print "<br> User:".$_SESSION['user']."<br>";
print_r(scandir('\\\\xxx\dyyy\\dateien\\'));
?>
</body>
</html>
-> When i call the script without sending the form it works well and
scandir shows the contents of the directory.
-> When i press the submit button, scandir isn=B4t able to access the
directory and i get these errors:
Warning: scandir() [function.scandir]: Unable to access
\\srvXXX\YYY\dateien\ in c:\Inetpub\wwwroot\artikel2\test.php on

Warning: scandir(\\srvXXX\YYY\dateien\) [function.scandir]: failed

line 13
Warning: scandir() [function.scandir]: (errno 2): No such file or
directory in c:\Inetpub\wwwroot\artikel2\test.php on line 13
-> When i change the method=3D"POST" to method=3D"GET" it work=B4s well
-> This problem occurs only with Internet Explorer not with Firefox
Has anyone an idea what can cause this behaviour??

IIS Won't Start
I have an XP Pro SP2 box (1.5 G of RAM, 2.8 ghz) that will not start
IIS. It has not been able to start IIS for a long time, if ever, but
this has not been my ASP.NET dev box until now. Now, I need localhost
fired up for ASP.NET development.
All dependent services are set to automatic start and are running.
Attempting to start IIS results in "Not enough resources are available
to complete this operation" (event ID 7023).
I have Googled my way through the various possible solutions. I do NOT
have the infamous HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Rpc\Internet key
in the registry, so DCOM port restrictions aren't an issue.
I have shut down all unnecessary programs, even briefly shut down my
firewall (McAffee) and it makes no difference.
I have tried renaming the IIS metabase. A new metabase is created, but
still no joy.
Event logs have been checked and various command line utilities invoked,
but nothing sheds additional light on this.
And yes, I uninstalled / reinstalled IIS.
Any other ideas, shy of reinstalling the whole OS, which is just not a
practical option?
IIS runs fine on a nearly identical box on the same network, very
similarly set up. But Visual Studio 2003 and VSS are a bit squirrelly
and cranky if they're not pointed at localhost, and I have a large
complex project to work on.
ANY ideas, no matter how insane, will be greatly appreciated.

Problemed ASP pages on IIS5 - win2000
I have an odd problem. I'm hosting a simple classic ASP site in a windows
2000 server with IIS 5. Just recently, for no apparent reason, the index.asp
document will not load immeadiately (will time out after a minute or so).
However, I put a another test.asp document in the same directory with the
same permissions and I can access it (although with a pause) fine. Then if
I reenter the index.asp document, it loads fine...! ?? i works fine for
awhile, then the problem starts all over. In some cases, a web site restart
will work, other times it won't. What would cause this to happen? I have
disabled logging and that doesn't help. Ensured the web site is signed to a
IP not virutal, no go.
Any thoughts?

Is this normal behaviour? Can this be avoided?
Thanks,

Script Error 800A0046 - Very Puzzling!
I'm new at this IIS stuff, but not dumb! This one really has me stumped.
- IIS 5.1 installed on Windows XP w/SP2
- I can run http://localhost/localstart.asp
Now I make a copy of localstart.asp -> mystart.asp, same wwwroot directory.
I cannot run this, get 800A0046 on line 40 - the first occurrence of
GetObject.
I brought up file permissions dialogs for each, got them to be nearly
identical (some funniness about local Administrators group having special
permissions in the case of my copied file). I did everything I could in
special permissions.
I have only local accounts: Administrators, SYSTEM, Users, Everyone and "VS
Developers". For each of these their effective permissions match those of
localstart.asp.
Still I cannot get past that error!
I of course checked the wwwroot directory permissions, but what could that
matter, since the file that works and the file that doesn't work are in the
same directory. Nowhere do I see permissions IUSR_<machine> or
IWAM_<machine>. Is this OK?

Documentation on Categorizer Event Sink interfaces anywhere?
Hello,
I've been looking around for documentation on Categorizer Event Sink
development, but have so far been unable to find anything solid.
MSDN does document the general approach in its SMTP Server chapter, but the
actual COM interfaces (such as ICategorizerItem, ICategorizerMailMsgs, etc)
are not documented anywhere.
Likewise, the only complete sample (called "catfwd", made by Microsoft) is
mentioned in http://www.mcse.ms/message920691.html, but is not available
anywhere (the uuencoded version in that post is corrupted).
Can anyone help me find the documentation, as well as the catfwd or another
robust sample?
Thanks in advance,

Explore but not Browse Virtual Directory
Hello,
In W2K3 IIS V6.0 I have set up a virtual directory to a file on another
server W2K containing tif images. In IIS I can explore these tifs, but when
I try to browse them I get the generic HTTP Error 500. I have turned off
friendly error messages, but I still get the same error. Any ideas?
Thank you. Tag: IIS 6 ASP.NET caching static files Tag: 373893
