    - MS IIS Setting: HTTP Failed To Connect if Using Machine Name Dear Experts, Previously I'm working on Microsoft IIS 6 on Win XP Pro SP2 to host my web application and its for development and testing purpose. Normally I use the machine name instead of localhost. So, I always use something like, http://mymachine/MYAPP/application.dll. But a few weeks ago, I had manually updated the Windows Update, guessing that it might help me on resolving security vulnerabilities in Windows, (which I'm not sure what). So after the update, I can no longer use my machine name and I have to use the localhost instead. Of course this is OK if I'm working on this machine alone, but I also need to do testing from other PC directing to this machine as well. I tried to telnet to port 80, and it failed to establish connection if I'm not using the name 'localhost'. Looks like it block the usage of port 80 if I'm using the machine name. Seems to me that this only require a little twist somewhere,... but I really have no clue where. I tried to uninstall the whole Windows Update. Tried to stopped windows firewall, stopped anti-virus, tweak system setting. But all to no avail. Can anybody here be kind enough to help me? Thank you. Tag: IIS 5 ASP.NET 1.1/2.0 Tag: 390001

    - IIS6 on Win2003 Std Srv and Java I am sure this has been asked a number of time so please bear with me.....I am running Windows 2003 Std Srv with IIS6. I have just installed my first Java applet on the webserver at http://irc.thenoc.us/pjirc/pjirc.asp I get the page up, but not the Java window. I believe it has something to do with the configuration of my MIME types on the server, but I have not been able to come up with what I am doing wrong. Any help is appreciated.     - Web application crashes I run a number of ASP.Net 1.1 websites on IIS6 / Win Server 2003. Whenever I update the dll files in the bin directory on one of the projects the server CPU maxes out and the only way to fix the problem is to restart IIS - I have to repeat this a number of times until the server goes back to normal. The other websites work fine - I can happily update dlls without any problems. Performance of the website in question is good with low CPU and disk activity and no evidence of memory leaks - despite being a high traffic website. I also have all the right patches installed.. I suspect that the problem is caused by a large number of .aspx files with code on the page itself rather than as code behind pages (this is because website users can add pages themselves) - when the website is reset IIS appears to recompile a whole load of these files.. I am in the process of re-writing the website in .Net 2 - although my testing showed that this alone would not solve the problem. Does anyone have any suggestions at what I can do to resolve this?     - Using WMI to get W3SVC Server Comment I need to be able to "pull up" an IISVirtualWebServer by its ServerComment. For now, a simple WQL statement (and object to run it on) that will give the Site Name when passed the ServerComment would be a godsend, but for the future I want to know where to find that model.     - 406 error when requesting files from my server Hi, I'm a first time poster to this group, hopefully this is the right place to ask this question. I have a speech recognition engine that should be executing client side (in a web browser) after using an activeX control to load data files from a remote location (i.e my server running IIS). When the activeX control tries to load files remotely from my server, it fails with a 406 error. I can manually access the file(s) that fail to load whenn via my browser...so there is something specific to the way the ActiveX control is accessing them that is causing the error. The speech recognizer is not my software; it is a commercial package...although I am the first consumer of the software (i.e. alpha version). The deveoper of this software has tested the ActiveX control on his system which is running Unix and it works properly. My server is running IIS Version 5.1 on Windows XP Professional with SP2 and most settings are default. I'm not super experienced with IIS; any troubleshooting help would be greatly appreciated.     - Visual Studio .NET Prerequisites and where to find them.. I am trying to rebuild a development IIS 6.0 server and am at the part where I need to Install Visual Studio .NET. I am installing Visual Studio .NET 2003 because that is what is on the server that I am replacing. This is to facilitate the install of Visual Source Safe. I currently have installed MS 2003 Server SP1, IIS 6.0 w/Front Page Extensions, .NET Framework 1.1 and 2.0 and have run aspnet_regiis for both versions. When I run the install for Visual Studio .NET 2003, I get a box that says "Visual Studio .NET Prerequisites". Setup has detected that some of the system components that are installed on your computer do not match the versions required for Visual Studio .NET. You must install a different version of these components." I then have the option of inserting the "Visual Studio .NET Prerequisites Disk/CD" but cannot find this disk or media anywhere on the Internet. I have looked for it for over 2 weeks and I am getting PO'd..LOL. ANY advice would be much appreciated.     - Sharepoint: Mac compatability or another problem? The Problem: When I was showing a user how to use the Sharepoint site, the site kept prompting her for a password every time she went to another site. She owns a mac computer suggesting that this may be the stem of the problem because I have never tested all this Sharepoint stuff on a mac before. Specifics: The site prompts her for a password when she clicks to the individual folders on one site, asks for a password when going to another site, but not going back or by clicking "up to **" on the top right. Test preformed: I did two tests to make sure it wasn't a common problem (and possibly ensure that it was a mac problem) 1. I used my personal computer from home (PC), and logged on. My results were that I only had to log on once, and the screen never popped up again. 2. I VPNed in using my work laptop. Same results as #1. My Conclusion: Looks to me like a mac problem, or maybe something else I am not sure of. Whatever it is, I have never seen it before on any PC I have logged in to the Sharepoint Site with. anyone have any ideas? Thanks again! Also, On the mac I tried Firefox and IE.     - In-Depth knowlenge about how IIS manages CAL Licences Hi everybody, here is my problem: I have one Intranet site which is totally programmed in ASP. I used to use the NT_AUTHENTICATION on the only site this Intranet hosts. After the launch of an internal communication in our enterprise, everybody clicked a linked and it bring the server down under the message "Users exceeded the number of CAL" (which is 20 in our case). I reprogrammed the whole site so it uses NT_AUTH only when the user first visit the site to tie a session object with the user's account on the domain... The following schema will help to understand. First Visit? (launch of the SESSION_ONSTART event in asp/global.asa) (ANONYMOUS) -> redirection to the folder /NT_AUTH/ (NT AUTHENTICATION) -> the page populates the Session("lan_id") field with the client account name on our domain -> it then redirect to the original page requested (ANONYMOUS) In Perfmon, the object WEB SERVICE gives us information about the number of CAL for AUTHENTICATED users per web site. First of all, I can't have a detail of CAL usage per website, it all gives 0. I have only the total (which still very high considering that the CAL should be used only one or two seconds in the first initial launch of a page). Also, the number of Current NonAnonymous Users is always 0, the number of Current Anonymous users can be 2-3 and 14 CAL can be used at the same time... How can we explain this?     - Move POP3 mailboxes and users on another server My Windows 2003 server became faulty because of hardware problems. It serves multiple purposes, but the most critical ones are SMTP and POP3. I'm not running Exchange, just built-in "SMTP virtual server". As a temp solution I'd like to configure another machine as my mail server.     - IIS Windows Integrated Authentication, AD account question Difficult question for all. We had a site name (in DNS) running on a computer with the same AD name, call it Intranet. So machine name Intranet, IIS site http://intranet, running Windows Integrated Authentication. I had been having progressive hardware problems with this box, and I had a completely synched backup of the site content running on another box, running with a host header of http://intranettest I had planned a Saturday downtime (the next day) to do the cutover. So, Intranet box dies completely Friday at 8AM. So, I remap DNS records to http://intranettest box. Change the host header to http://intranet I disable the AD object for Intranet box, since it didn't boot and I didn't have a chance to rename it. However, about 50% of people in my company can open up the new site. Not DNS problems though. We monitor with TCP view, and Internet Explorer doesn't send one packet on computers where it doesn't load http://intranet. The site works every time with Firefox from everyone's computer (except that there's no integrated auth). I troubleshoot for about 3 embarrasing hours (dumping cache, dns resolver cache, things like that), then delete the disabled AD object for Intranet, after which EVERYTHING WORKS FINE!!!! So, it seems like on about 50% of the computers, part of the Integrated Authentication process actually checked the AD account of the requested URL and noticed the account was disabled, so didn't even request the page of the webserver. This makes sense, sort of, and normally I would have renamed such a box if I had the chance, but I just assumed disabling the account would have the same effect as deleting it. Apparantly not. And then, why did it work fine on 50% of my user's machines? We have only two DC's and I pushed a replication to the other DC after disabling the account. What am I missing here? thanks.     - IWA connect to fileserver Hi! Please can someone help me. I=B4m going nuts with IWA, delegation and kerberos authentification... We would like to do the following: - We set up an IIS 6 - we added a website with IWA - in this website we created 4 virtual directories which point to a fileserver (the folders beneath the share are displayed in iis console) - in the virtual directories the authentication method is also IWA. - in ADS I set delegation on the IIS-computeraccount to the fileserver with HOST- and CIFS-Service The curious thing is, when I connect to the website using IE7 i can connect to the root-website, but not to the virtual directories. With IE6 I can=B4t even access the website itself. The default website is also not accessible with IWA from IE6, but from IE7. Can someone tell me what to do? I know ASP .net, I found that there was an issue with the only line in Global.aspx <%@ Application Codebehind="Global.asax.cs" Inherits="TestHostInstance.Global" %> I renamaed teh file on global1 so it won't be seen by IIS, I started browsing the pages. I switched to the interface " auth Diagnostics", ran the "Check auth..." test, I got the same results. In fact it was not So, In reality the issue has nothing to do with any Access privilÃ¨ges, what is going wrong or is Auth Diag " is working correctly? I tried to use some tropubleshooting tools, by starting the following commande >>>>logman start W3wpTrace -p "IIS: Request Monitor" -ets, <<<< >>>run in IE the same pages<<< >>>then stop the session<<<<< I get no output. Turning off 'show friendly http errors' in IE browser at this time reveals the error: dns_unresolved_hostname. This error is not tied to any particular mailbox. I have two network cards installed. one card is used for IIS and has a static outside ip address. The other card is assigned an ip address but is the local area connection with in the local network.     - can view .aspx but not .asp on IIS Hi, In my office the network is managed by a software called 602LanSuite. My computer is a part of the workgroup. I installed IIS followed by Visual Studio 2005. When I typed http://localhost in the address bar of my browser it took me to a page that is not stored in the wwwroot folder on my computer but a page hosted by 602LanSuite across the entire office network. I then tried http://127.0.0.1/iisstart.asp but a standard windows logon screen was thrown at me. Inspite of entering the correct user name and password(and selecting the "save my password" checkbox) the screen reappears exactly 2 more times after which the browser is redirected to "you are not authorized to view this page" page. However when I created a simple hello.aspx file in my wwwroot folder and type http://127.0.0.1/hello.aspx in the address bar the page is displayed without asking me to submit any credentials. So why is there this difference in hosting a .asp and a .aspx file ? And why is the browser treating localhost and 127.0.0.1 as different addresses ??     - IIS Host Header not Working I have an Win2k3 box running IIS 6 with PHP ISAPI installed. It runs two sites. Default site listens to port 80 on all unassigned addresses. Site 2 listens on 80 to the specific IP address. When visting site 2, it will display the default index page the first & second time, but sometimes - and this is intermittent - the index page of the default website is presented. "DBLibrary.bpl" error message. It happens every 3-5 days. This file is my dll. When it happens, the website will slow down, even no response. The message is similar to "w3core.dll".     - Session variables problem on Win 2003 R2 Hello, I am having some session problems with a mixed asp/asp.net application. My application works well on Win 2000 Server (all versions) and on Win 2003 (first edition), but on Win 2003 R2 I've a lot of problem. On specific ASP pages my application looses all the session variables.In other cases it looses the session varables at random. I checked all settings, IIS permissions, app pools, turned off recycling, etc. This configuration is the same as different servers run Win 2003 (first edition) where the application works well.     - idiot's guide to IIS FTP :) guys, would welcome it if somebody could help me out with this. basically, i do not want to install an extra piece of software to have an FTP server, and want to use the windows xp pro sp2 inbuilt one. i would like to be able to create an FTP username and password (which should not be related to a username and password in use with windows). how can i do this? i have tried setting up a server, but can never log in. i have the 'allow anonymous connections' tab selected, but just can't log in with the username and password i have put in. my FTP software (cuteFTP) just tells me that the user can't log in, with no further info. what could the problems be? would appreciate any help on this!     - Webdav issue on IIS5 Maybe someone can help me with this issue: I'm running a website on IIS 5. I want to use webdav, so I enabled directory browsing and granted write access in IIS. All authenticated users have ntfs modify permissions. However when I try to open the site as a web folder (using IE) I receive the message "Internet Explorer could not open http://blabla" as a Web Folder. Would you like to see its default view instead?" When I check wecerr.txt in C:\Documents and Settings\myaccount\Local Settings\Temp\d there is a "HTTP 405 - Resource not allowed" error message. My guess is there's something weird going on inside IIS (e.g. related to MIME types? or verbs/HTTP headers?) but haven't got a clue what to check and how. Someone any ideas or hints? Gr.     - Citrix Web Access on IIS 6 2 network cards no external access Hello, I'm coming at this from a state of relative ignorance. Our senior network admin up and quit with a project half done. I was nominated to complete the project and I've hit a wall. Specs: Win2k3 server, running IIS 6, Citrix Presentation Server 4 We are in the middle of the project and really just trying to make sure everything works/will work for our needs as a company. IIS is up and running on a server with two network cards, one connected to a cheap firewall that is set to forward all web/citrix port traffic to the internal server. This line is a stand alone DSL. The other card is connected to our internal network here which is connected to a T1. I am not trying to use web access within the building so I didn't bind the Citrix site to the internal card. When I attempt to access the site externally via IP 75.*.*.*/citrix/metaframe it just hangs, no time out, no error message, just hangs. However, if I disable the internal network card, I am able to connect to the Citrix Web Access site by IP with no problems at all. This leaves me thinking this is an IIS configuration issue. I need to have the internal card active so my hosted applications are available internally. Again, I just got stuck with this, I've never configured IIS before and am pretty much the help desk guy here. Please forgive any ommisions. I will answer any followup questions promptly.     - Classic ASP + ASP.NET 2.0 on Windows Server 2003 64 bit: possible? Hello, I have got a Windows Server 2003 64 bit that is running a Classic ASP application. The application uses COM objects (AspUpload, ChartDirector, just to mention a few). The IIS web site with the existing Classic ASP application is slowly migrating into ASP.NET 2.0 but in the meantime the two applications need to coexist. Everything works perfectly in the development environment (32 bit) but now that we are going into production a number of questions (and problems) arise. 1) How can I tell if IIS is running in 32 bit or 64 bit mode? 2) Is it possible to have a Classic ASP application running in 64 bit mode? 3) If 2) is possible, what happens with the COM components? Do I need a 64 bit version or the 32 bit version will work? 4) If 2) is not possible, will the only solution be to run both portions of the application (Classic ASP and ASP.NET 2.0) in 32 bit mode or it is possible to have Classic ASP in 32 bit mode and ASP.NET 2.0 in 64 bit mode (same server, same website)? the website's property page?

Yes, they both can run on IIS5 however they can not share the same
aspnet_wp.exe process.
