CDO message To field
Hello
im developing a service that processes msgs from the Drop directory &
forwards them using CDO.
A mail is sent to "user@myserver.com, user@server2.com". i want to
forward the message to "user@server3.com" but to spoof the DISPLAYED to
field so he sees "user@myserver.com, u...@server2.com" (like the
original message). nothing hacky, i just want to preserve the original
message.
Been searching for a while & I understood that i can do this using
clean SMTP commands by specifying the RCPT TO: different than the
header's to.
I want to do this using clean CDO and not SMTP commands.
I found out that if i config CDO to send using pickup directory, mails
start with:
X-Receiver: user@myserver.com
X-Receiver: user@server2.com
and the to field follows in the header.
If i could control these fields using cdo it would solve my problems.
tried setting "urn:schemas:mailheader:x-sender" but it made no
difference.
Any ideas? Tag: IIS 7 Tag: 383317
IIS 6.0 and ASP/ASP.net files and FPSE
Ok this question may seem dumb but here goes. Anyway here goes. Is there
any reason why FPSE need to be extended on a site just to host ASP and
ASP.net applications. The reason I ask is that we recently migrated out
development server to IIS 6 and I had to extend some of the applications to
allow the developers to connect via Visual Interdev. We are looking to
migrate our production server here in the next few weeks, and if I don't have
to extend any applicaions my life will be a lot easier (IIS Migration tool
does about everything else). Now concerning .net applications, I should be
able to re-deploy any of them using the SMB method in VS.net or just by
copying the files over.
Please forgive my ignorance on this, as I have recently grown to dislike
FPSE since we migrated our development server to IIS 6.
Thanks for the help. Tag: IIS 7 Tag: 383313

Security in SMTP Virtual Server
Hi!
I'm using a POP3 service and SMTP Service of Windows 2003 server to setup a
small Mail Server Enviroment.
In my "Default SMTP Virtual Server" -> Properties -> Access ->
Authentication I need to allow "Anonymous Acces". If I don't do that, people
can't send me mail's. My question is:
This "Anonymous Access" don't open my SMTP Server to SPAMMERS?
How I know that my SMTP Server is protected and only authenticate users can
send mail through his?
Thanks for anything,

HELP --- FTP IIS
Hello,
I have a question for you all; I'm new in IIS's FTP and this is driving me
crazy. I created a user in Windows, that user should have (full) access to
two folders in the FTP root; what I need to do is create the permission to
that user so when he logs in the server he only sees those two folders. he
has full access to those two folders but shouldn't have ANY access in the
rest of the folders.
*graphically*
-Root <-- NO access to this folder
-Folder1 <-- full access to this folder
-Folder2 <-- full access to this folder
-Folder3 <-- NO access to this folder
in the root folder "i can live" with him seeing the file listing but he
shouldn't be able to read/write/delete/upload any file nor be able to save
files in his HD
is this posible?!? if so, how?
thanks in advance,

Authentication Across Web Sites
I have two websites which are hosted on the same web server, both of which
authenticate onto the same domain / active directory. Both web sites are set
to Integrated Windows Authentication for access control. If you log in to the
first web site (http://main.mysite.org) and login, that is great, but when
you follow a link that redirects you to the second web site (normally through
a Reponse.Redirect command) (http://private.mysite.org) your are asked to log
in again, even though you are already authenticated against the same domain /
active directory.
Since the web sites are the same domain, albeit with different prefixes, and
use the same active directory, is there a way to allow the second web site to
pick up the credentials used during authentication on to the first web site
rather than asking the user to login again? Apologies if this is a bit of a
basic question, but I have never needed to do something like this before and
active directory, etc. is not my strongest skill set.
Thanks a lot,
Simon.
P.S. Wasn't sure where this should be posted, but thought it was more an IIS
question than an AD question, but please accept my apoloies if it is in the
wrong place. Tag: IIS 7 Tag: 383287
FileUpload.ASPX and Duplex Setting
Does anyone have any ideas if the duplex settings cause any issues with file
uploads? I am getting an error stating "there is a problem with the web

force the switch to be full duplex and the NIC to 100-full. Auto negotiate
had intermittent issues.

websites directory security anomaly
Hello
Can some one please help me with what I think is a weird anomaly.
I have created a website in IIS 6.0. I then goto configure the properties
and under directory security / authentication and control I ask for anonymous
access. I have set up a user specifically for anoymous website access and use
that in the "User Name" and "Password" fields as required. It doesn't work !!
When I view the site from IE6 it asks for logon details. However when I use
the Administrator user account for anonymous access it works perfectly well.
What is going wrong here? I am hesitant to use the Administrator account for
security reasons. Am I right to worry?
Many thanks in advance

Help!!! IIS Internal Server Error!!
Hi - I'm having some serious trouble getting IIS up and running on my
new machine; its an AMD Dual Core with a raid 0 configuration. I keep
getting Internal Server Error.
I've been reading alot of articles trying to find a solution, and they
seem to point to it being a problem with DTS (Distributed Transaction
Services). I was getting the errors described in this KB article:
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=867520
What I discoverd is that the MSDTC is * MISSING * from my computer, and
the setup file that the articles say to run dtcsetup.exe is missing.
How can I fix my COM+ / DCOM stuff so I can get IIS running properly and
I can get back to work?!?! I'm running Windows XP SP2, I installed
Visual Studio 2005 and SQL Server 2005 developer edition.
Thank you for your help.

IIS 6 Authentication
I am serving MS CRM 3.0 dot net web application on port 5555. I have added

allows anonymous access and integrated access. When I try to bring up this
page as a stand-alone, I get no problems. However, when trying to bring up
this page as IFrame of a MS CRM page, I get authentication prompt. What's
more, even if I press cancel, the IFrame still returns results as opposed
to saying authentication failed.
How can I get rid of the authentication prompt?

Creating multiple websites on IIS 6.0?
Requesting help from the IIS6 gurus out here.... I am trying to find out
the best way to run multiple websites on one IIS web server (Win2K3 Server
Web Edition). The way our web infrastructure is set up is going to change,
as well as our desire to move from all ASP Classic over to .Net.
Right now we have one production web server and one development web server
(both IIS6). We are bringing up a second production server as we are going
to bring in-house a website we had contracted out a while back. Our
thoughts, however, are to put both websites one each server, and set the two
up in a primary/backup fail-over style as opposed to each one designated to
a single site. This would allow us to do updates, maintenance, patches,
etc. on one, fail-over the servers, and then do the other with minimal down
time of the site.
On the development side, we have one server where previous web developer set
up multiple IIS Webs, each having their own IP Address. While this works,
it is a bit of an administrative nightmare, not to mention our Network guys
are not very happy about it. I understand the reason, and I agree with the
premise, it is just that I would like to find a better (?) implementation.
The reason is that we have a multi-stage/multi-site development environment.
All initial development is done in the DEV stage, after that all internal
testing and reviews are done in the TEST stage, and after passing QA, the
updates are copied over to the production web server. However we need a
separate web for each public website and our Intranet, but also a DEV and
TEST web for each of those. As I said above, we have two public websites,
and soon to have a third, as well as our Intranet, I am looking at a minimum
of 8 individual IIS webs: PublicWeb1_Dev, PublicWeb1_Test, PublicWeb2_Dev,
PublicWeb2_Test, PublicWeb3_Dev, PublicWeb3_Test, Intranet_Dev,
Intranet_Test.
The other item that throws a curve in the works is that on at least one of
the Public Websites we need to use SSL for a "secure area".
Googling IIS, it looks as there are 3 different ways of creating multiple
websites on the same box under IIS: Multiple IP's, Non-Standard Ports, Host
Headers.
Multiple IP's - This is what we are using right now -- each web is kept
separate, no issues with SSL, can have multiple webs.... however, it
requires a new IP for each web, our network has limited number of IPs to
give, and the network guys are not happy with this solution.
Non-Standard Ports - This is something I was thinking about doing as I could
just use one IP address, and by setting each Web its own port, I could have
literally hundreds of Webs. The downside it seems is that you have to
append the port number to the URL for links. Also using SSL on multiple Webs
becomes hellish at best as only one can be port 443, and it seems that the
browser only looks for port 443 unless otherwise stated, so once again you
have to append the port number. While I could probably live with this in
our development environment, I *do not* want to have this on the production
server.
Host Headers - According to Microsoft
(http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;308163) using host
headers allow "you to map multiple Web sites with the same port number to a
single IP address by using a feature called Host Header Names. By assigning
a unique host header name to each Web site, this feature allows you to map
more than one Web site to an IP address." Checking out other sites
(http://www.visualwin.com/host-header/,
http://www.iisanswers.com/Top10FAQ/t10-hostheaders.htm, etc) it sounds like
all I do is create a new IIS Web, point it to some folder on the box, give
it the same IP address, same Port 80, but give a unique name for the Host
Header, and then have the network guys update our DNS Server with that name
and IP. So I for the different sites and stages I could do Host Header
names like: "Dev.PubWeb1, Test.PubWeb1, Dev.Intranet, ..... " But then I
read that SSL does not work with Host Headers
(http://support.microsoft.com/kb/187504/en-us), but want to make sure I am
reading the KB Article correctly that this is solved with IIS6?
From my limited experience standpoint, it seems like Host Headers is the way
to go, but I want to make sure that is indeed the case. Also, I want to
make sure we set things up correctly so that when pages are moved from DEV
to TEST to Production, we do not need to alter them (or as little as
possible) because of how the servers are set up. I also want to make sure,
or get straight in my mind rather, how Host Headers would work with our
registered domain names.
I apologize for the long post here, but I am not a "network guy", have never
been this involved before in setting up web servers and websites, and want
to get it right the first time. Also, as we will be going from ASP Classic
to ASP.Net, and want to implement source control software with our
development, I want to get things set up to work with both as well.
I would like to get feedback, tips, advice, suggestions, etc. on how best to
implement this kind of environment. Thanks!

Download blocked without referrer?
Hi!
I have the following problem, thanks for your ideas.
On an intranet I can download a PDF linked within a local html file
without problem. When entering the URL of the PDF directly into the URL
field of the IE, the download fails.
I assume this is because the IIS blocks download attempts without a
referrer, on the other hand a direct URL to a text file works fine...
I'm at a loss.

link refering to page with similar name???
Hi,
I have a strange question that might not even belong here (if not then
plesase direct me to the right place):
My website has been translated to Spanish. This has been done by
translating each page and creating a copy with the same name but added
an extra .sp, like this:
index.shtml -> index.sp.shtml
I use SSI so the pages are named .shtml because of this. The reason is
that all pages refer to an include file "contentbar.txt" (and now also
contentbar.sp.txt) that holds all navigational links and displays as a
link list to the right of our pages.
What I would like to do is to put inside this included file a link to
switch to the *other* language page with the *same* name. So if I am
on somepage.shtml the link would point to somepage.sp.shtml and if I
am on somepage.sp.shtml the link would point to somepage.shtml.
Of course the link on contentbar.txt points to the somepage.sp.shtml
and vice versa.
Now the problem is how I can create this link! The contentbar.txt file
is included in *all* of the other page files so the page it is
included on is not known until it is loaded. Basically only the client
browser sees the fully assembled page.
Is there some command I can put into an include file or otherwise that
can let the server or client browser compute the correct destination
file according to these rules:
1) get current page base name
2) remove the extension(s)
3) add the correct extension (.sp.shtml or just .shtml)
Of course I could put the pageswitch link into the body of each file
and hardcode the name there because inside the page source I know the
name of the page, but that involves editing about 250 page files and I
don't really want to do this if it can be avoided.
Finally, the website exists on Earthlink on a UNIX server so I guess I
cannot use IIS specific code, it has to be general in nature....

FTP Login Issues
Hi guys,
I have setup FTP on a new 03 box. I have left the "Allow anonymous logins"
as enabled. I'm able to connect to it while within the network. It does not
prompt for a userID and password. It connects me right to the FTP root
folder.
On the firewall, I have allowed the FTP service rule for incoming traffic,
and forwarded it to the IP address of the same machine.
However, when I try to connect from the Internet, I get the Log On As window
and "Either the server does not allow anonymous logins or the e-mail address
was not accepted." error message. I click on the Log On anonymously check
box and it still doesn't let me thru. I put in a valid Domain
Username/Password, I get a "Could not login to the FTP server with user name
and password specified.". I take away the Anonymous Login policy on the FTP
site, nothing doing.
I try using the FTP IP_ADDR command. I get code "530 Access denied".
What am I missing here people?
Any help is appreciated! Tag: IIS 7 Tag: 383260
IIS 6 is adding WWW-Authenticate:Basic header
IIS is adding a WWW-Authenticate:Basic header to responses even when
anonymous access is the only item selected in configuration of the virtual

I've got IIS fronting Tomcat... a Security Filter running in Tomcat performs
NTLM authentication, so when no credentials are received on the initial

IIS (Virtual Directoy) and .NET over a network/domain

I'm currently trying to set up a virtual directory over a domain.

are both on the same domain. The virtual directory seems to be created
without any problems.
I have tried using both the ip add and the pc name for the virtual
directory path. However when I try to view the .aspx web files I
encounter one of two problems. If I'm using the ip address in the
virtual directory I get the following error: Server cannot access
application directory '\\XXX\c\BlockReports\'. The directory does not
exist or is not accessible because of security settings. I have tried
to impersonate within the web.config file but without success, the
permissions are set correctly and the files can be accessed/modified if
the address is typed in manually. The second error message I get is if
the pc name is used in the virtual directory path is:
Configuration Error
Description: An error occurred during the processing of a configuration
file required to service this request. Please review the specific error
details below and modify your configuration file appropriately.
Parser Error Message: The XML file

or the provided impersonation level is invalid.

Both the pc's in question have access to the files and have the correct
username and password. There are no security settings that should
interfere and no firewall blocking any traffic. Any help on this would
be much appreciated.

Webtrends Referrer Data is off?
There seems to be something I'm either missing or something...
We have been using Webtrends to find out where our Visitors are coming from:
internal
Search Engine Referrals
External - Direct From Individuals
External - Links from other sites
from Webtrends we get the Following numbers:
Total number of Referrals
Total Number of Referrals from Search Engines
No Referrer (External - Direct From Individuals)
Internal Domain Referrals (out 2 domains listed)
From there, we add up the Search Engine, No Referrer and Internal, Subtract
that sum from the total and get the number of other External Links.
This has been working fine since last December. Last December we noticed a
change. The number of Search Engine, No Referrer and Internal added up is
more then the total number, thus causing our External - Links from other
sites calculation to go negative.
Is this not the way to do the Calculations, or could our Data be messed up
or?
Any insight would be helpful.
Thank you,

Can I add Content-Disposition header as a Custom Header for a directory
Is it possible to add a Content-Disposition header in the Custom Headers tab
of a folder properties.
I'd like all files in a specific folder to cause the browser to launch a
download/save dialog rather than attempt to display content in the browser.
This regardless of file type.
I've tried it of course but the header isn't included in the output. I
guess when it says 'Custom' it means custom. Is there any way to do this
declaratively?
Cheers,

IIS 6 Dynamic HTTP Compression
Hello,
i'm trying to get http compression for dynamic pages to work. To be
more exact: Our ASP Application streams word-documents to the client by
using an ISAPI-Filter called URLReplacer - so a call of
http://servername/myapp/test.doc is intercepted and an ASP-Page streams
the file.
O.K. when I turn on http compression now (turning on, adding webservice
extension - set to allowed for gzip.dll, adding doc as a extension for
dynamic pages) and I download the file a local-debug proxy shows, that
the client accepts gzip encondig, the server sends gzip data. A former
12 MB file is now 600 kb.
But... The download isn't faster at alle 2 minutes before and 2 minutes
after compression. What am I doing wrong? (Static compression works,
but is no solution for me).
Thank you

SSL Binding with Multiple IPs on a Server
I have a single server with two web sites. I have a host IP address and a
VIP bound to the physcial Ethernet adapter. I can assign each web site a
unique IP address. I can set the non-ssl port for each web site to the same
port (e.g., 80). But I can't set the SSL port of both sites to 443. I'm
getting the event ID 1113 error that's saying IIS already sees this port as
being used. Can this be done or is there something special about SSL that
would only allow a single web site to use port 443?
Thanks!

Permissions to Search Website
I recently moved our intranet site from a Win2k server to a Win2k3 server.
At that time, we enabled Integrated Windows Authentication, which is working
fine.
Now, however, we're having problems searching the website (site is created
with Front Page). If I access the site with a domain admin account, I am
able to search fine. If I access as a regular domain user, I get an
authentication prompt. If I enter my user credentials in the authentication
box, it comes back and after 3 attempts, I get the following message:
You are not authorized to view this page
You do not have permission to view this page using your current user
account.
Please try the following:
a.. If you have another user account with a higher level of permission,
click
your browser's Back button to try again using that account.
a.. If you believe you should be able to view this page, contact the Web
site administrator.
Access to all other pages on the site works just fine. I'm not really sure
where to go from here. This is what I see in the log file when I try to
access the search:

Any advice before upgrading IIS 6.0 to Windows Server 2003 SP1?
Friends,
As title, I've two nodes running IIS 6.0 (Windows Server 2003) with NLB

had been expired for 2 months, I would like to plan an upgrade to SP1.
I doubt that there are any services those will be affected after the
upgrade, can anyone give me some advice?

how to check the current connection in POP3 service?
Our server is running server 2003 with IIS.
We met one problem that some POP3 accounts have intermittent problem with
login. We suspect that there is lost connection which make the new login fail.
Is there any way that we can find all the current connection in POP3

too? If yes, how? For each live connection We want to know the IP address,

Find the Application folder given a URL
I need to figure out a way to find the application folder (virtual
directory) for a given URL request. For example, if given the URL
http://localhost/VirtualDir/SubFolder/SubSubFolder/WebForm1.aspx I want
to be able to find that http://localhost/VirtualDir is the application
folder, and SubFolder/SubSubFolder/WebForm1.aspx is just a path.
Is there a way to programmatically figure this out?

Wildcard Domain Restriction
Is it possible to add a wildcard for a domain name restriction.
For example, I want to restrict only users from a certain domain to access
the site but they may be coming from many subdomains.
Such as www1.mysite.com, www2.mysite.com, www3.mysite.com, etc.
I would like to enter *.mysite.com
Is this possible? The source users may have dozens of subdomains and may
add them regularly and I don't want to have to keep updating the server when
this happens.

Compress data on server and uncompress on client?
I have a dynamic xml file that needs to be downloaded periodically to the

zips up very small. Does anyone know of a simple way that I can compress the

data. Any suggestions? Tag: IIS 7 Tag: 383210
Intermittent HTTP Status code 400 and Page cannot be displayed
I'm posting this question again after associating my MSDN subscription with a
posting alias. Maybe that's what I forgot to do in order to get an answer in
2 days...
We have a web application running on a Windows 2000 server with IIS 5.0. It
is communicating to SQL Server running Windows 2003 and SQL Server 2000. We
have some web site users complaining about intermittent Page cannot be
displayed errors. Sometimes they try again and everything executes as
expected. Sometimes not (page cannot be displayed persists). Sometimes they
say it takes a long time before they get this page. When we look in the IIS
log file, we see http status code 400 being reported at the same time of the
complaints. We cannot duplicate this behaviour ourselves from within our
company. So we are stumped. What can we look at, or what additional data
can we collect (and how) in order to determine the cause of this problem?
Thanks,

Is there a way to get more detailed information on the cause of the shutdown ?

Changing MetaACLs for FilterNode
Hello,
I have created an ISAPI filter DLL and I am installing it
using a script (which uses ADSI objects and is written in javascript).
The portion that installs the filter is the standard js
which looks something like this:
(Note that the "siteFilters" is a filter node obtained previously)
// Add the filter
var myFilter = siteFilters.Create ("IIsFilter", filterName);
// Set the appropriate filter path
WriteLine("Set filter path : " + filterPath);
myFilter.FilterPath = filterPath;
WriteLine("Filter path set successfully.");
myFilter.SetInfo();
The problem I am facing is that after this the filter gets
installed successfully and it works well too but when in the IIS
snap-in when I right-click the virtual directory and check the ISAPI
filter tab in the properties it shows priority field as "*Unknown*" and
the arrow also does not appear.
Now when I change the ACL (using Metabase Explorer -> IIS
administration utility) of this node so as to give Network Service
user, write permissions, on the filters node the UI shows the
appropriate priority and also the arrow.
The question I have is that is there a programmatic way (using
javascript) to change the MetaACL of the "Filters" node or one of its
children?
Thanks,

How to deploy 2 distinct ASP.NET apps with one in V.Dir and one in site root
I have two completely distinct ASP.NET (2.0) web applications. They share no
code, they have distinct web.config files, they don't even link to each
other. During development, they have lived happily side by side in two
virtual directories in the same IIS website.
e.g. http://localhost/dotnetnuke
and http://localhost/mobilephoneapp
Now they are ready to be deployed to a production webserver (IIS 6.0). I
want the first app to be run through the site root and the second to be run
through a virtual directory:
e.g. http://www.company.co.uk <--- this is the dotnetnuke app
and http://www.company.co.uk/phone <--- this is the mobilephoneapp app
My problem is, with this setup, the mobilephoneapp uses the web.config of
the dotnetnuke app, because dotnetnuke is in the root of the site. How can I
make them live as distinct applications again, but keep the address of the
dotnetnuke app as http://www.company.co.uk?
FYI, I know I might be able to accomplish this by creating two IIS websites,
but the server only has 1 IP address. Tag: IIS 7 Tag: 383180
