    - Problems serving pages containing a calendar control I have a web server which serves up a page with a calendar control in it. This has been working fine for many operating systems, however with Windows XP the calendar doesnâ??t seem to be the same classâ?¦ A sample piece of code below, works fine for Win 2K (with office 2000 on it), however on two XP boxes (one with Office 2002, the other 2003) it fails with an â??object doesnâ??t support this property or methodâ?? error when the â??Aboutâ?? link is followed on an XP machine even though the calendar is displayed correctly. Other aspects of the control also do not work, such as access to the â??dayâ?? parameter. I donâ??t know where the problem lies â?? it seems to come down to versions of msacal, but Iâ??m hoping you can give some definitive explanation of what is going on/how to ensure the require control is executed. Iâ??ve tried with both NT 4 IIS 4.0 and Windows Server 2003 IIS 6.0 as the web server, with the same results.     - SSL questions Hi, I have a website set up on IIS 6 (windows 2003 server) using the default website. The default website has a number of virtual folders e.g. HR, Billing etc. I need to set up the HR virtual directory to run over SSL. I have read about the MS Certificate services but I am not sure about that so I might just try to convice my manager to purchase a cert from a 3rd party company e.g. verisign. I konw how to request and install the cert so I was wondering if there is anything that might go wrong. I mean I can choose which virtual directories to encrpt cant I?     - Can two instances of IE share the same session ? Hi All I noticed the following behavior while developing a web site on an XP SP2 computer. The local site URL is: http://localhost/localsite the website files are located on the local harddrive I noticed the following: I open a page on the site with IE, and I set a session variable to a certain value. I then click a link to the same page (the same local site on my computer) which is embedded in an email message. A new instance of IE is opened, but the session variable of the new IE instance HAS THE SAME VALUE as the one previously set in the other IE instance.     - Non thread safe ISAPI It is possible in IIS6 to define a maximum number of worker precesses.I notice that IIS will not call a busy prosess if there is an idle one. So by letting IIS open many processes can we make sure that an ISAPI dll will not be re-entered. And also can we define the IIS not to re-enter an ISAPI dll but rather wait for a free process.     - Problem with large files and Webdav Hi, when I use WebDav to copy a file that is larger than about 60 megabytes over a secure connection to a Web folder, the file copy process does not work, and I receive the following error message: An error occurred copying some or all of the selected files. This problem was reported by Microsoft (Article ID: 260649) for Microsoft Windows 2000 Server. I have Microsoft Windows 2003 Enterprise Edition with SP1, but this problem is here again ( or maybe it is anything else ?). UploadReadAheadSize is set on maximum.     - Identifying what is behind W3WP.exe Hi, Im sure this Question had been posted several times earlier on this forum, but could not find the right reply. Neways, here it is again: I have a single website running on Win2003 & IIS6. Several application folders exist under this website. There is just one applicaton pool. I see instances of w3wp.exe eating up CPU on certain occassions. Using iisapp.vbs i could track the w3wp.exe to the default website and its application pool.     - IIS stops serving after IP change Our web server resides on the DMZ. We changed the addresses on the DMZ and how the web server has stopped serving pages. I checked the properties of each site (there are 2 that reside on this server using Host Headers) and the new IP address is present. The web server has connectivity to the internet and the trusted network. But when I try to access either website I just get The page cannot be found. I have restarted IIS and the server itself with no success. Everything was working fine before the change of IP. From my trusted network an nslookup returns the correct address and I can ping the server. So it appears to not be a networking/connectivity issue. What could I be missing? Tag: IIS 6 Tag: 361889

    - Error on loading page I have Windows 2003 Enterprise Server. I am a Web Programmer and I am having problem with one of my Virtual Directory (http://www.timemediaonline.com/clients/bb). If you go on the following link you will see an error message with Path Not Define or Input Past End of File. Basically only the change I have made in BB folder is: Global.asa for Active User Count (Which is in same folder) Variables.asp for Session Database Counter (Which is on all page) After making those changes I can't see any page on my Testing Server (Above Link). But it works fine on the hosting server. Now my problem is I can't make any changes on the site because I can't see any pages. Also the Session Counter is stored in Text file and I have gave proper permission on the file for READ/WRITE/DELETE for IIS User. I have also tried using <%Server.MapPath("\")%> to find a server path and it comes up "C:\Inetpub\wwwroot". I have also tried putting the Session Counter Text file in that folder with proper permissions and place the global.asa too. Still page is coming up with HTTP 404 Error.     - IIS Manager - Buffering Hi, I have recently checked the buffering option in IIS on a server machine. This had been previously disabled (for reasons I do not know). I had chosen to enable this because I had been getting HTTP header errors as a result of adding more ASP code to the existing website. By enabling buffering, this meant that all code is processed and generated prior to the transmission back to the client. This solved the HTTP header errors. However, I am now testing other parts of the website (where I have NOT done any changes) and there is a problem with loading a page that normally retrives large amounts of records from SQL Server. If buffering is off, the page will eventually load. If I have buffering on, the page will almost immediately throw the following error: HTTP 500 - Internal server error The client browser is on another machine (this is the local machine where development occurs). Another interesting thing to know. I also have the local IIS running, so if I run the client browser to access my local development machine with buffering on, this page will display with no problems. If I do the same on the server machine (ie. run client browser on the server via remote desktop connection), the same error occurs. How do I escape this predicament? I know I can rewrite the ASP's that I had added code to, so that the headers are sent back to the client the correct order. However, is there another way to resolve this issue?     - Customizing IIS Logging I am looking to customize IIS Logging and add my own user id (provided by forms authentication as well as other parameters). I am not able to successfully compile the samples provided by MSDN "Customizing IIS Logging". There are quite a few errors, among of them related to files referenced by the project that I cannot find: _ntverp.h and iisver.h. These are the steps I am doing to get the sample working: 1. Create a VC++ 6.0 Win 32 DLL project. 2. Add the files as per the sample. 3. When building the dll it just fails with a bunch of errors.     - IIS 6 problem with anonymous access Warning beginner here. I am new to Win2k3 (or an real server platforms). I am also learning VS.NET and SQL Server 2k. To make a long story short. I was fiddling with making a very simple (one form) ASP.NET website. I also tried FrontPage. Somewhere along the the way (over the period of a week) something hosed my Anonymous ONLY access to the default (win2k3) web page. I searched for permission differences between two win2k3 servers, but didn't find anything. I tried the article Q332167 "IIS 6.0: HOW TO: Configure IIS to Control Anonymous Password." procedures and that worked. I then restored a Ghost image from a week ago, and that worked fine. So... somewhere in the past week something hosed the Anonymous access "thingy". What types of things might have happened? I'd like to avoid having this issue again. TIA Tag: IIS 6 Tag: 361875

    - Download from Web Folder Fails Based on File Type We have a Windows Forms app that has been successfully running for several months. Part of the app checks for certain file updates from a web folder at login time and downloads any component updates that are needed. There are about 15 files of different types that could be downloaded, including .rtf, .ppt, .xls, .exe and .mdb extensions. Now they are making us migrate to a new box with a new address. Only change I should have to make is the pointer to the web address of the server-based file. File names themselves have not changed. Now when the code runs to check for updates and download needed components from the new location, the program properly identifies which pieces are needed, but some of the downloads fail with Error (400) Bad Request, while others succeed as they used to. What I have been able to determine is that the .exe, .mdb, and .rtf files are downloading successfully, while the .xls and .ppt files are generating the error.     - IIS 6 not caching static files I have an IIS 6 web server doing about 10 million hits a day. I have noticed what appears to be a problem with caching of static image files. Most of the files served are images < 50KB in size. I have requested the same file over and over again from my browser myself (Shift+Refresh) to try to get it to be cached, and IIS still won't cache the file. I'm lost as to why this would be happening, and my Avg. Disk Queue Length is higher than I want it to be. I'm thinking too much disk I/O due to this non-cacheing of static files.     - High number of context switches > 40,000 causes CPU util at 100% I am experiencing a very similar to some posted previously issue with CPU utilization being at 100% with only a few simultaneous user connected; IIS is serving 1 or less get requests per second. Thi happens on a Windows Server 2003 Web Edition with IIS6. Up to 200 logical threads is being created choking the CPU. Also, high number o context switches > 40,000 causes CPU util at 100%.     - IIS Domain Change? Hi We are working on a large environment and are still in the process of migrating our NT4 servers to Windows 2000/2003. AD is up and running, but authetication is still done though the old NT4 PDCs/BDCs of the many domains. It has been decided to go into one big AD domain, SLI.BZ. Now, what would I need to verify to actually make sure my IIS servers are changed from their old NT4 domain to the new AD domain? My list includes this so far: - Anonymous user access to the many sites on IIS - DCOM configuration for NT4 domain user security - Certificate servers (will I need to make new certificates?) - Scheduled tasks - Services running from a user context in NT4 domains Is there a guide for IIS migration from NT4 domains to AD domains?     - IIS Manager (mmc) crashes when I try to look at any properties I recently upgraded from windows 2000 to windows 2003 with IIS6. Now whenever I try to right-click on any web sites or virtual directories through IIS manager, the management console crashes after having tried to access an illegal memory location. It's very frustrating, as I can't make any changes/additions to my site. The site still runs fine, I just can't manipulate it through the IIS manager. If I use another machine's IIS manager to connect to my machine, I can see the properties windows correctly. The only references I could find to something like this had to do with an issue when installing a beta of VS.net 2005 and .NET 2.0. I don't have that situation though, as I'm still running VS.NET 2003 with .NET 1.1. Any thoughts? Thanks Brett Tag: IIS 6 Tag: 361846

    - log on locally Is it possible to allow the "log on locally" right to enable NT authentication for a user while disallowing them to actually be able to log on to the PC? We have PCs in our factory that usually autologon to a generic user. We would like to have a set of web pages to use NT authentication (for ease outside of the factory) Currently, we deny the generic user in web.config, so the factory workers get a login prompt, but this results in the 500 error b/c they are disallowed from logging on anywhere. we're all on the same domain. bryan Tag: IIS 6 Tag: 361836

    - 3rd try : HTTP/1.1 New Session Failed & sessions resetting I've posted a 2 previous messages and spent hours on the phone with MS's Indian support (WHO I CAN BARELY UNDERSTAND). I have a Win 2003 SP1 were with IIS 6 and host about 40 websites, most of them useing ASP/VB with access databases. The server is a Dell Dual 2.4Ghz XEON with 512Mb Ram. Every few days I get the error "HTTP/1.1 New Session Failed" and the server stops showing the sites. It comes right after a bit and then comes back. I have separed the sites into 10 per application pool but it still does it. Occassionally it will actually work but the sessions just keep resetting and the users get loged out of admin sections every 2 or 3 minutes. There is a hotifx 838306 which according to MS is in SP1 but according to everyone else, is NOT. It wont install on SP 1 because it needs another hotfix first (837001), which will not install because there is a later version of the 2nd hotfix in SP1. Catch 22! So my solution is to set up my server to reboot every night at 2am. That keeps it going.... barely. People keep saying you don't need to rebook, just recycle the app pools. Well that does not fix anything, only a cold reboot solves the problem... for a few hours anyway. UURRRRGGGG! Please can someone help. Tag: IIS 6 Tag: 361833

    - Can't Locate Client Certificate I have setup a CA on a machine called Titan. I went through the process of requesting and installing a certificate on a separate client machine, Tera. I then setup a site on Titan that required client certificates. Everything works fineâ?¦Tera prompts for the certificate, I select it and continue. Now, I setup a site on a separate server, Gemini that requires client certificates. When I access that page from Tera, it prompts for a certificate but there are none in the list. Why does it not show the previously install certificate? What determines which certificates it lists? I installed the CA root certificate from Titan on Gemini and configured it as the current CTL in the web site properties. Why is it not finding my client certificate?     - one user cannot logon to web form, others can We are implementing an ASP.NET application which uses forms authentication but authenticates using Active Directory in a Windows 2003 domain. I have found that all of my users can log into the new ASP.NET application just fine, but one user cannot. For example, one of my users is Bill and another is Paul. Bill can log in just fine, but Paul cannot. I went into Active Directory Users and Computers and took a look at both of them, and I found that Bill is a member of same groups as Paul. When Paul tries to log in he gets an error that says: "Error obtaining group names.     - WebDAV HttpHandler (attn David Wang) I read a couple posts from David Wang stating that a DefaultHttpHandler in ASP 2.0 should be usable for implementing a WebDAV interface. I am trying this out, but not getting anywhere. ASP 2.0 is still in Beta 2 at this point, so I could understand if maybe this part isn't exactly finished, but I WOULD like it if someone could tell me whether or not that is the case. I have inherited a class from DefaultHttpHandler, which does nothing but log the requests at this point. When I send it a simple HTTTP GET, I see an entry in the log. When I try to open the location as a Web Folder, which should result in a WebDAV OPTIONS or PROPFIND, I get nothing. My code never intercepts the request. In addition, IE tells me that it was unable to open the location as a web folder, and asks if I would like to see the default view instead. This error message in itself isn't bothering me so much, since I am not sending a proper response to the WebDAV request, I would expect this sort of thing. But without my code ever running (As evidenced by the lack of a log entry) how could I ever be expected to give a proper response at all? I have some code that would theoretically do the job, if it were ever called. Out there in the wild, I've seen a few people claiming to have accomplished this. Strange that none of them have a shred of code, an example site, or even an obfuscated dll to back up their claims. Someone will respond to questions similar to mine, claiming to have a proprietary class which they obviously cannot share, but is doing this exact thing. They have NO details, or even vague hints as to how it was done. There is also one dead GotDotNet project that claims to work but in practice behaves in EXACTLY the same way as my attempts, showing an IE Error, and offering to show the defauls view instead. We won't even go into the number of "planning stage" open source projects I've found in my travels. I guess what I'm saying is this. Is there anyone in the entire world who can prove, not just imply, that there is a way for .NET code to intercept and respond to a WebDAV call. Stating that ASP 2.0 "should" be able to do this with relative ease is not a valid answer. Naming the classes that "should" be able to do this isn't either. If one person can show me even a "Hello world" response to a WebDAV request the world would be a better place, and I think you'd see some amazing development begin to flow. The web is littered with the dead and broken bodies of half-finished attempts at this same functionality, a few "MIA" projects that supposedly accomplished it, and not a single victor in sight.     - Trying to limit acess to certain domains I really need some help here. I am trying to limit access to a web server to visitors coming from specific domains. I have tried checking Deny Access to All except *.gov and *.mil. This works breifly, but then it changes to a 403.6 - Forbidden: IP address rejected error. This used to be a rule on a firewll above us, but they changed equipment and supposedly cannot provide this service for us anymore. I have been told to use IAS or become a certificate authority.     - ASP.NET crash on Windows 2003 / IIS6 I have a very urgent problem that we are unable to solve and that resembles a lot with your post. We also have a ASP.NET app. running on II6/WS2003. When we run stress tests against this site, the number of concurrent users increases for a while and the server responds the correct pages, but after a minute, IIS stops sending responses and it looks as if the application restarts/recompiles. After an other minute, the number of users increases again, crashes again, etc... The same test on IIS5/W2K Server works without any problem on the same hardware.     - Multiple SSL identities on the same E3K front end server Hello there My initial question: is it possible to create multiple secure identities on the same server using several certificates and a secondary IP to be used with each certificate? the reason for this question is that people access Exchange 2003 front end servers from both the internet and through our LAN. The certificate issued to the server by our CA is issues to "mail.mydomain.com" where as people from the internal LAN access the URL "mail.myinternaldomain.local". So I tried creating a new HTTP virtual server in order to assign a certificate issued for mail.myinternaldomain.local and assign it to an IP that internal users use. No matter what I do, people keep getting the warning that the name on the certificate is invalid or does not match the name of the site and when you open the certificate it shows that the default website certificate "mail.mydomain.com" is the one used. I made sure that the new IP is propagated in our internal DNS system and that the client is accessing the FE using the IP address and not the old one. I also noticed that using Exchange system manager; I am unable to add the port 443 as the SSL port (text box dimmed) My environment is IIS6 and E3K on windows 2003 enterprise edition.     - SSINC.DLL, SHTML files and 401 errors. We have inherited an intranet site which uses SHTML extensions and has #INCLUDES. This works fine for existing domain users, no problem. At present the Authentication method is set to "Integrated Windows Authentication". We now have 2 trusted domains running side-by-side and the users on the other domain get a USERNAME/PASSWORD prompt (because of the Integrated Windows Authentication). So I set the intranet site to Anonymous Access but when they access the site through http://sitename/ they receive a USERNAME/PASSWORD prompt again. However, if they use http://sitename/index.shtml the site comes up just fine. I have done lots and lots of digging around and came up with http://support.microsoft.com/kb/q246806/ - this would be useful except that we are using 2000 Server, SP4 and the problem was resolved in SP1.     - Web Server Set Up Hi, I'm trying to set up a web server, but I am having trouble doing so. I'm trying to set it up with IIS on Windows XP. I currently have a Microsoft MN-700 Wireless G Router. I've enabled port forwarding on my router, and I have also turned off the Windows Firewall. When I try to connect to my server, it won't connect. When I run an internet based port scanner such as ShieldsUP or www.canyouseeme.org, all my ports including port 80 & 8080 are unreachable. It states that they are "Stealth". We first get the initial 48k of data and when we try to read more data from the request we only get another 14k roughly, making the size of the received data to be 64k exactly.     - Setting Up New Localserver IIS 5.1, XP Pro SP2, FrontPage 2000 SP3 I installed IIS 5.1 today to do some simple asp work. I tried to Open a New WEB using FrontPage and received the "...did not send a WWW-Authenticate header" message. I made no changes to anything other than install IIS and reinstalled XP-SP2 and in Server Extensions "Upgrade Extensions" I went to the ole WEB and found over 100 of the same questions with the same answer; Set Basic Authentication, well that seems to defeat security but I tried it on the Default Web site directory security. Tried FP again but then it kept asking for a UserID and Password, not knowing why I tried my Network UID/PW, that didn't work, it just asked over and over again after clicking OK, tried IUSR_HP_P4, the IIS assigned default with no password, same thing. I switched the Security to try Integrated Windows Authentication ONLY nothing else selected, this allowed me to create a new Web and didn't ask for a UserID or Password. Next I'll see if I can Publish, update to follow. Probably this involves metabase scalability and peformance issues. I need to create a portal site which serves different content based on the host header that is used. Here are few example urls: http://JOE.mysite.com http://john.mysite.com. I can have these two urls mapped to one location. I could achieve this by two different techniques. 1) By configuring both Host names to the same application/virtual directory. 2) By creating two virtual directories and point to the same location. I know that if I use second method (creating two virtual directories) I will have more control on access, execution etc... But if both the sites have same settings except the host headers, would you recommend using host headers or creating virtual directories. Before you answer, I have to add one another piece to challenge, I need to create 1000-2000 sites like this. I am planning to use WMI to create these sites programmatically. I need to add new host headers on the fly as needed. If you recommend the first method (keep adding multiple host names to the same site) then, please show me how to do this in WMI. Right click on the "Web sites" folder in the IIS MMC and bring up the
"Properties" dialog. "Isolation mode" is on the "Service" tab.
