    - Can Borderless forms have a context menu in the start bar? Hi I'm currently developping a skinnable form by using a borderless form (Form.FormBorderStyle=None). Is it the right way to go in the first place? if it is. Assuming that when there is no border to the form there is no context menu when you right-click on your form in the start bar too (the one with Restore, Move, Size, Close et al.)...     - Event handling in Collections I have a class that inherits from NameObjectCollectionBase. For simplicity, the collection is called reports, and the individual objects in the collect are called report items. Each report item has a property called .value that throws an event everytime the value changes. What I would like to know is if there is a way to create event handlers at the collection level.     - Assembly Minimum Security Requirements Hi, Using VS 2005 Pro., I have built a Class Library (DLL) with several functions, subs, etc... I would like to determine the minimum security requirements. For some reason, the "Security" tab does NOT appear when designing Class Libraries (DLL's), therefore, I cannot use the "Calculate Permissions" button. I tried using PERMCALC.exe, but the resulting .XML file is quite involved and hard to decipher. It has many "demands" nodes throughout and thus extremely time consuming to go through. Is there any way quickly determine .DLL security permission requirements (minimum), or somehow "attach" the XML file generated by PERMCALC.exe to the assembly/DLL in question?     - Changing Route Table from C# I've posted this question in 'microsoft.public.dotnet.framework.compactframework' as well, but despite the great help I still haven't solved the problem. So before going the C++ route I would like to see if anybody in this group may have the answer.     - access to path ' ' is denied when using createdirectory() I am pretty new to VB.Net, but I am in the process of creating an app that will force a folder to create, along with its subdirectories, when it doesn't exist. Every time I run the following code "Call Directory.CreateDirectory(<path.)" I get "access to the path "<path>" is denied". The folder I am trying to create is on a separate server with access controlled by a domain group. My account is in a domain group with update access. I can create the folder manually.     - ClickOnce program fails to run properly after update I am using ClickOnce to distribute a program. It works well except for one detail. When a new version is installed, the program does not initialize properly immediately after the update. The sequence is the user starts the program, is informed a new version is ready, installs it, when it is complete and the main form is displayed, the user needs close the form, and restarts the program to the form to initialize properly. The problem is that several controls are left disabled. The program uses MDI with a main form and several child forms as needed. The problem is on the main form. The controls that are not enabled are two list boxes, a tool bar, and a user control containing a numeric control. The menu and form tool bar initialize ok. The form uses the table layout control and several panelsâ?? controls. The controls that do not initialize properly are in there own panel in a cell of the table layout control. It is like the list boxes are not there, they control the other controls determining when they are enabled. One list box is bound to a table and is filled. However, the value change event does not seam to be working. The other list box, contains a the list of the available MDI child forms and is filled in manually. It list is not filled in or updated even when I generate a new MDI child form. Restarting the program and every thing works normally.     - How to speed up reading of large disk files Sorry if this is the wrong news group for this post. I have some large disk files (15-20 MB) that are made up of many records of different types and sizes. I use a BinaryReader to process all the data sequentially (i.e. with many reads operations) and load it into my .NET app. I will have several .NET Apps running on the same computer each of which will need to read these files but never change them. The performance is not awful, but I would like it to be faster. I have looked at Memory File mapping, RAM disks, etc. but I would like to know if someone has a better idea especially if it stays within normal .NET I/O funcationality.     - How to access a network drive from a Windows service? I have a VB .NET app that lets you create a DTS Package that copies data from an SQL Server to a database located in the specified path (it should work with both local and network drives). You can either run the package from within the application or as a Windows service. If I specify a network drive and run the package from the app, the data is being copied fine, but the service gives me "Table not accessible" error. My understanding is I have to configure my Windows service to run with the proper domain user account. In other words, I need to set my service to log in with an account with the appropriate permissions to the network path I want to access. What's the syntax for that? What functions do I have to use?     - Exception handling behaves differently in debug and release versio I have a class library which throws exceptions on errors. I have an exception handler several levels above where the exception is thrown to catch exceptions. When I run the app in the debugger the exception handler is called, however, when running the app outside of the debugger I get the unhandled exception dialog and my exception handler is not called.     - DataAdapter.Update PB with a new database Hi, With a NEW database, I have an auto-generate DataSet ()with menu "Add new DataSource...") with two DataTables, parentTable and childTable, and a relation between them. I fill these two tables with five records, then try to update database with these records, using the autogenerate parentDataTableTableAdapter and childTableTableAdapter, after having set a ForeignKeyConstraint on childTable, related to the relation. Some problems appear when I update a new created database. First problem : when I use parentDataTableTableAdapter.Update(), an exception is thrown, telling me that a row ID is already present in parentTable. The problem comes from the autoincrementseed of id column that is set to 0, althrough it is set to 1 in the database. So then first row is updated, its id in DataSet is set to 1, already in table. To avoid this feature, I found two solutions : - Set autoincrement seed to 1. But, a new problem can appear if one record is already in database - Set dataSet.EnforceConstraints to false In this last case, I have a new problem appearing : after the parentTable update, the child table foreign key is set to the last updated row of parentTable. This trouble is certainly due to MSDN advice (ForeignKeyConstraint) : "Constraints are not enforced unless the EnforceConstraints property is set to true" But update works fine when the database has already some records !     - MyProj.svhost.exe running alone Hi group I am testing the Visual 2005 Express Edition. I have a solution with a few projects (WinForms, and ClassLibrary), the start up projet is MyProject. When i open the solution using visual, MyProject.svhost.exe start imm=E9diately.I cant run my project using debug. i can run using the "run without debug" option. If i try to kill MyProjet.svhost.exe in my windows App manager, it is killed, and immediately recreated (by visual). What is my problem ? I don't know how to work, please help ?     - stupid .net framework 3.0 ? Ok guys i know this is a stupid question but here goes. I decided tonight was going to be the night to learn this new .net framework 3.0. I downloaded the new release of .net framework 3. I also installed windows SDK & the visual studio plugins for WF,WCF, WPF. Ok my first quest was try research this LINQ stuff a little bit bit suprised to see nothing relating to the .Net framework 3.0 in visual studio except a .Net framework 3.0 that had stuff like a template for creating XAML app which im not there yet so i don't want to use. Ok one of the first things i was going to see is if "var" was even there and it wasn't. SO i tried to go add System.Query manually through the .Net references and its not there. What gives? What do i need to do so i can start coding stuff with the .Net framework? Id like to do a working example of an windows forms application using LINQ.     - using preprocessor directive for cross framework compatibility Hello all, I have some common classes that I routinely use with all the dotnet projects that I work with. I have these classes in a separate file so that it becomes easy for me to include them into projects. Some of these projects are done in visual studio 2003 and some are in visual studio 2005. lately I have started using some of the classes (FTPWebrequest) which are specific to the dotnet framework 2.0 (VS 2005). Now this file cannot be included into the vs2003 projects as they would give compile errors. I did not want to to maintain two different files for these 2 environments. I know that we can use preprocessor directives (#if ) for this but I did not know how to identify the IDE version (VS 2003 or VS 2005) to use in the If directive.     - Printing images from a background component I need to print the images from a background component which is not a part of WinForm or WebFrom application. I can start a Print command within the component and it will work on some printers, sort of.. On many others printers the output is garbled. I guess some printers are capable of using raw tiff/jpg data while others aren't. I was hoping that there is some magic Printer class in Framework that would solve my problem...     - Raw TCP/IP library? Hi to all :-) I need to know if there is (inside the main .NET framework or available as a library) any TCP/IP implementation which can be run over a serial line. I know the request can sound quite strange, so here are some more elements :-) I'm testing a client/server application which will be composed of mobile embedded clients connected to the Internet through GPRS modems and a central server (written in .NET/C#) which will sit there receiving data from the clients. The actual clients' CPU will be a mcirocontroller, so their firmware will be written in plain C language, but for now the actual hardware isn't available, so I'm just simulating them using standard Windows program and TCP/IP sockets. The GPRS modem is a device which can be accessed through a serial port and, when given proper commands (some proprietary extensions of the AT set), establishes a GPRS connection, which acts just like a standard modem connection to an ISP; after doing this, the controlling program needs to run TCP/IP (PPP) over the "virtual" serial line which is created. Since I'm testing this modem's behaviour from a Windows application, I need to go through the whole process of establishing a connection and handling it; I managed to use Windows to do this by connecting the modem to a computer, installing a "standard modem" on the same serial port and creating a DUN connection which, instead of dialing a phone number, just sends the proper AT commands to establish the GPRS connection; this way, Windows' own TCP/IP stack is used. Everything works fine. Now I need to handle this from an application, so I'm in need of a TCP/IP protocol stack (with PPP!) to run over the GPRS connection, in order to test the whole process; the actual clients will of course have their own TCP/IP stack: the microcontrollers I'll use comes with proper C libraries. I'd like to know if there is anything available for .NET which can run TCP/IP and PPP over a serial line; if there isn't anything available for .NET, a standard C library could also do, because I'm anyway going to have to use one for the final development process, so I can just use it for this intermediate step and write the simulated clients in C.     - Loss message in Socket Async mode Hi, all Did not find a .Net Communication forum to post. I am soing a client/server message system and using C#.net socket and Async mode. I have developed an application (an office addin).The application works fine with no error messages on my devoping machine (that machine is not connected to any domains). I have problems getting this application to run on a computer where the user is on a domain (as in a big company where you log on to the company domain). The funny thing is that the application works fine in outlook. But not in word or excel... The error occurs when trying to create the proxy object. This proxy objects creates successfully when run from outlook.     - Bug: Localization for Button Control in inherited UserControl Hi everyone, After trying to make this work for a while I didn't get a chance to obtain what i was supposed to, so here is the description of the bug (I think) I found : Steps to reproduce : 1. Create a new Windows Application project. 2. Create a UserControl (ex: UCMenu) and set it to localizable in design time. 3. Put one Label and one Button on it(ex. name: buttonToLook), set on them different Text properties values depending on languages (ex: (default) & fr). 4. Expose Text properties of all 4 controls with localizable attribute on it ([Localizable(true)]). 4. Create a UserControl (ex. name: UCInheritedUCMenu) inheriting from UCMenu, set it to localizable in design time. 5. Put UCInheritedUCMenu on the project main form (and set form also to Localizable). 6. In Program.cs, set Thread.CurrentThread.CurrentUICulture to "fr". 7. Run the application and notice that only buttonToLook does not take its localisable value (you can add other controls on UCInheritedUCMenu or form to see that only buttonToLook is not localized). 8. We already removed any Crossthread Calls. Reinstalling and replacing the computer hasn't brought us any better results. In some cases this exception only appears twice a week, sometimes 20 times a day depending on workingday or / and computer. I am encountering the following exception when I try to send the response body back to the client: "An existing connection was forcibly closed by the remote host". This exception is thrown by the Socket.Send() method (where the specific socket in this case is the client socket). Locally I can run Regasm from the VS.NET command window and that's that. But how can I get the assembly registered on the (or any) server? At the despatch end, We have a text file which is to be compressed and encrypted and sent over to the recepient. At the recepient end, the file is decrypted and then decompressed. Hi I'm not a programmer but need some help from those of you that are.

I have a developer at my company that keeps on having the
webdev.webserv taking up vast amount of mem. Most times up to 800 megs.
This brings his box to a halt. What could the cause of this be? Is this
due to bad coding ? Is it a setting that he has changed?
