    - Using regular expressions to parse INI file Folks, I was trying to parse standard Windows INI files using regular expressions, but I can't seem to get it to work all the way.... I have two tasks, basically: * retrieve all the section names (names between [....]) * given a section, retrieve all its key=value strings I can achieve goal no. 1 by having a regular expression of "\[(?<section>(.*))\].*". This seems to work okay - I can load the INI file into a string, and apply that regex to it, and iterating over all the .Matches and looking at the Match.Groups["section"].Value entries, I get my section names: StreamReader oSR = new StreamReader(<name of my INI file>); string strINIFile = oSR.ReadToEnd(); oSR.Close(); // grab all the section names by means of a regular expression MatchCollection oMatches = Regex.Matches(strINIFile, @"\[(?<section>(.*))\].*"); foreach(Match oMatch in oMatches) { string sConfSection = oMatch.Groups["section"].Value; // do something with sConfSection } However, I can't seem to get any regular expression working that would pick out all the key=value pairs for me, from a given section.     - ReflectionTypeLoadException From GetTypes() Hi all, I could really use your help here. I am trying to create an instance of a class defined in one of my assemblies, from a method in the same assembly. The problem area of code looks something like this... Assembly runningAssembly = Assembly.GetExecutingAssembly(); Type[] assemblyTypes = runningAssembly.GetTypes(); // Now I have some types, find the one I'm looking for and use Activator.CreateInstance // to return an instance... Seems pretty straightforward really, doesn't it? Well, the GetTypes() call fails with a ReflectionTypeLoadException "One or more of the types in the assembly unable to load". I've done a fair bit of searching and on several occassions have seen the 'make sure all dependent assemblies are in the same directory or GAC', which is fair enough. As far as I am aware, all of this assemblies dependencies *are* in the same directory or the GAC. Having checked ILDASM manifest information for externs, it looks okay to me. I've also checked the Fusion log and that seems to be as expected also. The top of the stack trace looks something like this... at System.Reflection.Module.GetTypesInternal(StackCrawlMark& stackMark) at System.Reflection.Assembly.GetTypes() at ... [the calling line in my code] ... Are there any other places I should be looking for dependencies? I have noticed that some of the manifest version numbers do not match the actual version (manifest version always older) but I don't really know what to do about that, even if it is relevant. Are there any other cases in which this exception would be thrown? I'm stumped right now. If anybody can shed some light on this I would be really grateful. Thanks in advance. Antony.     - Calling managed CSharp code from a C++ dll I have a dll written in C++ running along in my exe and would like to call an API from the dll into the managed code portion of my exe, which is written in C#. I know that you can call a function in the C++ dll by using the DllImport statement and declaring a P/Invoke compatible API signature for the managed portion to call into the unmanaged portion. But can you do the reverse? Essentially, what I want to do is have the C# section provide an particular function as a callback to the C++ dll so when it is ready to perform a certain task, it makes a call to the callback function provided in the C# section (which can be made into a dll).     - This pisses me off This is what pisses me off. We have an application that is a very large commercial application. The application has several COM dlls and MFC code Occassionally we get assert on 1040 line in dbgheap.c,heap pointer (passed to free/delete is invalid).It is not reproducible, What is frustrating is that there is no help from MS to dectect such problems. We already wasted 2 months tring different approaches. PageHeap that every Microsoft Employee so proudly talks about is the peice of crap. Can you imagine allocating 1 page after every allocation. Maybe it will work for test apps that Microsofties write for their own testing but it is a piece of crap for a big application ... I am so sick of this problem. MS keeps talking about .NET LongHorn, bullshit etc but never tries to research ways to help us fixing the existing problems. I wish all developers and companies out there buycott the ,NET and all other crap Microsofties keep pushing at us. Many of you may sense frustration in my mail and I really am frustrated .     - PrintDialog Doubt Hi I have a doubt about the PrintDialog component. I can print all pages I draw in the print document, but i also want to allow printing some pages, so I set the property "PrintDialog.AllowSomePages" to true. The problem is that the print dialog ignores this and no matter what I write in the repective textbox it keeps printing all the pages in the print dialog.     - Xml :: Deserialize stream of specified range. Hi, I have a potentially very large xml configuration file. When the file is parsed, using an XmlTextReader, each configuration section is stored into a HashTable - not the xml content itself, but essentially (ill make this easy to understand) the start and end positions of the config section within the Stream. When it comes to deserializing the configuration section, I know exactly which part of the Stream to look. However, I have no way of specifying the range of bytes to deserialize from, using XmlSerializer.Deserialize(Stream s). I could read the range of bytes into a MemoryStream, and then deserialize from the MemoryStream, but I don't really want to have any significant part of the configuration file in memory.     - error when compiled in release mode works in debug mode. Control throws error when compiled in release mode. but works nicely when compiled in debug mode. I have created class library which has several user controls, now one of the control is throwing null reference error.(object reference not set to instance of object). To trap exact place of error I recompiled this dll with debug option . to my surprise control works with out error when I compile with debug option. However when second time this method is called it throws SocketException I am using socket.receive() method to receive data in blocking state. If client has closed itself normally, socket.receive() method at Server side detects connection broken by receiving Zero bytes. But if there is some problem in network, then socket.receive()method also fails to detects it and thread is blocked for ever in socket.receive(). Please suggest me what to do?????     - Strange Problem Occured Using C#&Access I'm having "strange" problem with accessing MS Access database from C#.Net. First of all, I develop using VS.Net 2003, C#, Crystal Report fo= r VS.Net 2003 and MS Access 2003 in this project (standalone application).= This project uses C# and Ado.Net OleDB for database connection and cryst= al report for report generating. I used Wise Installation program for creating installation package, however, I don't think my problem is with= Wise. Access database is stored in Access 2000 format. My development system is Windows Server 2003. Everything works fine on m= y development machine, until deploy. I have succeeded in deploying it to another vanilla Windows Server 2003 with zero problem. However, when I tried to deploy on some Windows XP machine, I have some strange things happening. 1. On one machine (winxp, sp1) with MS Access 2000 installed, my program= can't access database. Only until I use the Access 2000 "repair" functionality to repair my database. After that, the code works fine. 2. On some machine, even after repair, still code can't access database.= 3. It seems that my code (c#) can access some tables, while can't access= others. I have only 1 db file storing all data. The symptom is my progra= m can read user information from the database file (used for log in), but after I logged in, subsequent calls to get more data failed. 4. On some machines, it worked alright, until upgrading to Office 2003 o= r Office 2002 SP2->SP3. Some more info: 1. The failed sql query: select * from Job where 1=3D1 and UserId =3D 1 = order by JobTitle 2. The failed sql connection string: Provider=3DMicrosoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0;= Data Source=3DDefault.mdb;Jet OLEDBatabase Password=3DSome Judging from the fact that the program works in some machines yet fails = on others, I assume it's some configuration problem, or some missing components.     - Mixed code - "not registered"? We are attempting to move a large development project into the .NET age over time. We have a large number of ATL-based COM objects in this project. Following the "Journal Poster" example provided by MS, I have converted some of my COM projects into mixed code so that there is both a .NET and COM interface to the underlying logic. So far, so good. In one of these former COM projects, four additional COM objects are within from the underlying logic as a matter of executing the main interface method. Our testing shows that this all works perfectly well through older programs that are using this project as a COM object, but when accessed as a .NET class library, only three of the four objects are loaded properly - attempting to create the dispatch for the fourth COM object causes a COM exception reporting that the object is not registered. I have traced the problem right down to the call to CoCreateInstance and I have checked the registry, but I'm at a loss as to how to proceed from here. Any ideas? Other than not being registered, what can cause a "not registered" message?     - Key Generator based on HDD serial number Hi I want to do a key generator based on the local computer hard drive serial number. My problem is on getting the hard drive serial number. I found many examples like the one below, but this code gets the hardrive with "c:" id, so it will not work if the computer doesnt have a drive with the id of "c:". There I am trying to do what the visual c++ can do using .NET framework - c# MSDN : http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?kbid=183412 What I am trying to do is changing USER AGENT: string of web browser control sent to a web server. according to the MSDN, it seems it is possible using OnAmbientProperty event of CWnd of MFC so, I tried to do same on .NET framework using c# by overriding GetService method of Container class first, I created WebBrowser control on win form, and made a MyContainer class to override GetService method class MyContainer : Container { .... override ... GetService ( Type service ) { ... } } and added the webBrowser control to it. myContainer.Add( webBrowser ); according to debug information, webBrowser is properly added - myContainer and webBrowser are connected by Site. and then , I test - runned the application. during the application start up, it called GetSerive as expected - when active X control needed to get some ambient info from its container. and, when I clicked on a hiperlink of web page, the GetService method was called as expected. - okay, so it seems I am getting OnAmbientProperty event called by Active X - WebBrowser Object. but, that's it. I am stuck in this stage. I couldnt figure out how to inspect what the DISPID is. therefore I can not find out which event call is for DISPID_AMBIENT_USERAGENT. so, I can not override user agent string of what the WebBrowser control sent to web server. so, is there anyone who already did this kind of stuff? or anyone who can help me? (equivalent to msflexgrid) can someone explain how to simply populate a grid in .net ? the way i understand it, there is no more msflexgrid, and instead is this new control that has to be tied to a dataset, and it is a real pain to work with if you just want to throw some values in a grid and edit them with a textbox. i don't want to persist anything in a database, i just need a fast cheap and easy grid in memory that i can work with! i had functions in vb6 that would insert (tab & vbcrlf) delimited text into a grid, and vice versa. it was super easy. if you clicked on the grid, it would superimpose a textbox you could type in, and on lost focus, the textbox contents got copied into the appropriate cell. is there some existing code to do this in vb.net easily?     - Determening where a function was called from The Trace class in the .NET framework provides basic tracing capabilities. I would like to create my own tracer that includes the date and time the trace occured and what function and class the trace was called from. The date and time is no problem, the tricky bit is to determine where the function was called from, I only want to go one level up, not the whole call stack. Is there any way to use reflection to determine the calling function? I had a look at the MethodBase class but I can't find any promising properties or methods. Since the call stack is used when getting the stack trace from an exception and for security checks, I was hoping it would be possible to get hold of something I could use.     - attn:MVPs Hi All, I have a strange problem with .net sockets (Protocol TCP/IP). I have developed a slave application that listens for incoming connection in asynchronous mode, and accepts incoming connection in a socket and returns to the listening mode. The connected socket then uses async mode to read and write from the underlying network stream. In the AsyncRead call back function an event is raised to handle the data received. While processing the message, If the break the connection from my master application (which sends data), none of the async read/send call back methods throws an exception to indicate connection is broken. The worst is when I send the Ack, the properties of socket indicate the stream is connected and the async send method sends data without any throwing exception. But, I know for sure connection is broken. This puts my messaging processing system in soup. The big issue for me here is that I have invested a great deal of time and an important client's money developing this solution. I chose .Net because of it's reputation as a cutting edge server based framework and convinced my client this was the way to go. Now I find that the solution is unusable and I have been let down by the .Net framework. This is a critical system and a socket sending an acknowledgement to a non-existent connection and reporting success is frightening in terms of the undependability of this component of the .Net Framework. Is there an answer to this problem? Is there a fix for what is undeniably a massive bug in the Socket class? How can I proceed using my solution in .Net? Is there an alternative third party socket class (similar to winsock control) that I can use to solve this problem? Any help is greatly appreciated.     - Tricky ADO.NET question: joining data from database with a DataTable Hi everyone, We're writing a windows forms application which produces various reports. Some of the reports include complex financial calculations of several types. Each calculation type is performed in a separate 'engine', which returns a DataTable. For example, we'll have the following engines: (simplified for the sake of discussion) holdings: given a protfolio ID, gives a list of the stocks in it and amounts. stockinfo: given a set of stocks, fetches information about them (name, stock exchange, etc.) The process should be: - receive a portfolio ID - activate the holdings engine to get the holdings - activate the stockinfo engine to get the info The stockinfo engine needs to perform a SELECT which is filtered by the output of the holdings engine, otherwise the query result will be way too big. The obvious thing would be to perform some kind of SQL JOIN between the holdings engine's output and the database table stockinfo uses, but how can I join a DataTable in memory with a database table?     - Parsing strings to other datatypes without throwing exceptions Hi, I want to be able to check that a string is of a desired format particularly datetime strings. VB IsDate() function doesn't work becuase it doesn't know what format my date is supposed to be. E.g. whist '20031010' maybe a valid date if the expected format is 'yyyyMMdd' it's not valid if the expected format is 'ddMMyyyy'. I've looked at using the DataTime.ParseExact(...) because I can then specify the exact format my date is in. But I don't want an "exception" to happen becuase this is bad for performance.     - Windows service Vs Console app performance Hello, We've an app that I can run as a console app or as a windows service using the Windows services manager. I notice that it runs much faster from the console than it does as a service. For a certain data set the console app completes in about 20 seconds whereas the same code running as a service completes in about 2 minutes and 20 seconds. I've also been able repeat this behaviour with a trivial test function. (30 seconds compared to 60 seconds) Does anyone know whether this is recognised, that services run more slowly than console apps? Or whether there is something I can do, programatically, to make the service perform similarly to the console app. I could supply sample code of the trivial app if that would be useful.     - MDI Menu problems Framework 1.1 Hi all, We have a running application compiled in framework 1.0. The application has a MDI Main form with dockable forms and MDI Childs. Some times we have to refresh the mdi main menu depending on the active docked form, it's done by menu clone and merge. When we rebuild the application in framework 1.1, we get some exceptions due to the menu merging, when the active mdichild has merged the menu with the mdi main and creating a new mdichild or when changing the active mdichild.
