    - Timing Hi everyone, I'm neck deep in ASP.NET and sinking fast ;) Any help much appreciated. I have two user controls on a page that I want to communicate with each other. One control is called RoleList and allows the user to select the type of view they wish to see on the page. The other control(s) - sometimes there may be several - then change the stored proc, query etc they use to extract info from sql. Therefore, I have set up the RoleList to generate an event and coded the other control(s) to listen and recieve it. The problem is timing. Line 14 came from the event being fired and the next two is where the event is caught. But the Load event (which contains the data binding for the list / grids etc) for the response has already happened! Therefore the user must click the role they want to see TWICE!!! I could probably make some public properties in the base page and read/write info from them to get around this. But this will mess up my otherwise quite low coupling and I don't want to.     - Error upon sending request to a web service on Windows 2003 I am facing the following problem I have a windows serivce client sending records frequently to a web service installed on a Windows 2000 Server machine. The connection line between the two machines is 512kbps however only quarter of it is used for these transactions and the average of the records sent is 400K. Recently the machine was upgraded to Windows 2003 Server and i started receiving the following errors: 1. Server was unable to read request. --> There is an error in XML document (1, 1665). --> An unexpected end of file parsing TAG has occurred. Line 609, position 57. 2. The underlying connection was closed: An unexpected error occurred on a receive. 3. The operation has timed-out. Please keep in mind the following: - This error never appeared on the previous 2000 server. - This error doesnt always occur (not for all records), when it does and the client tries to resend the failed records they are sent successfully - I tried to increase the connection timeout value for the web sites enter in IIS and the responseDeadLockInterval in the machine.config file and the masRequestLength in the web.config file however it didnt help - This error also appears when the newly upgraded machine tries to send to other sites Any Solutions?     - Mobile verses normal aspx? I put a small amount of code to support limited capabilities in my application to support mobile devices. I've used normal aspx (not mobile) and it appears to work very well. I checked it out with the OpenWare 7, Microsoft Mobile Explorer 3.0, and Pocket PC 2002 emulators and everything works very well. I save and get the ViewState from Persistenance media and each of the two pages that I'm producing only transmits about 500 bytes of data so I think the performance is OK.     - Regular expression problems Hello al I am not sure where to post this, so I hope this is correct. We have written a Visual Studio AddIn that relies heavily on regular expressions, which are often executed thousands of times. When running, it works successfully for a while, but the Windows Page File Usage gradually increases, and eventually the application freezes. We have traced the problem to the regular expressions, but the problem does not apply equally to all expressions. For example, the expression "^([\s]*)('|REM( |\t|\v))([\s\S]*)$" does not cause any problems, whereas the expression "^((("(("")|[^"])*")|([\s\S]*?))*)(('([\s\S]*))|$)$" causes a severe memory leak.     - PerformanceCounter (CPU load) staggers for 20 seconds When using PerformanceCounter.NextValue to measure CPU load (percentage), it returns quickly on every call but then takes 20 seconds at the 2 minute boundary. After this it again returns quickly. I'm seeing this on three different systems (XP Home, XP Pro, Server 2003), and using .NET 1.1 and .NET 2.0 Beta2, both debug and release builds. Has anyone else had problems with this issue? In production code I'm calling PerformanceCounter.NextValue from a separate thread, but it still seems to "freeze" ALL currently running threads of my app - nice 20 second delay :-) It only seems to happen at the 2 minute boundary, after that it doesn't (seem to) happen again.     - strange memory managment Hi All, This might be something really straight fowward, but I have been debugging my application. I noticed some really unusual memory behaviour, after putting it through a profile, I narrow it down to the property AllowDrop = true. I created some sample code, which simply adds a panel to a tab control 10 times, then removes the control 10 times. If I have AllowDrop=true set the panel is never destoryed in memory. I am just interested in knowing why AllowDrop=true would stop the panel from being destroyed ?     - .NET and C++ template I have created a C++ MFC dialog based appliction with .NET 2003. I am trying to use a functioning MFC extension dll. There is a header file for this dll that defines a template class. .NET errors when trying to compile this file. This dll and it's associated headers compile and function just fine under VC++ 6.     - Image comparison, from image capture device Hi I am trying to find some code, or reference docs, to assist in helping capture images from an image capture device (ie. webcam etc etc). I want to be able to compare successive images coming from the device, and be able to detect if the image has changed from the previous one.     - Possible to read a AppDomain's ConfigurationSettings from another domain? Hi, I have a .Net component running under a COM+ server package. On occasion one of my aspx web applications calls it to do some work. The web app has some configuration settings stored in its Web.config file that I'd like my component to get to if possible. However, because it runs in a separate appdomain (the COM+ server package is an entirely different process) from the web page I can't get to that information-- at least, I don't know how.     - Shell_NotifyIcon from a service? Service handles the EventWritten event on an event log. Service is set to run as LocalSystem and interact with desktop. In the event handler, I create a form (but don't show it), and then call the native Shell_NotifyIcon using the form's handle and icon to display a balloon tip. The form will handle the UserClicked message and display itself if the user clicks the balloon tip. However, I have not yet successfully gotten the balloon tip to appear (on Win 2K SP4).     - Large file upload to server (webdav/http file post/other?) Ok, I am asking a question on a matter of theory... I've got a linux server that runs mono+xsp/mod_mono. I would like to create an application to upload large files and be able to update progress during the upload. I've toyed with the idea of dav, but it seemed to be a pain to get going. Plus I didnt really know how I'd upload a file (seemed to be pretty undocumented area) I thought about httpfile post, but it seems like even with proper precautions in place (a large file upload module), it was a best effort type setup where hopefully it'd work. One of the deciding factors here is that it must work around firewalls etc, so I'd like to have it operate on port 80 and not hinder the linux boxes existing web apps.     - Crystal keycodev2.dll Frustrations!!!! I've been in the IT industry for over a decade now and I have worked with Crystal Reports on many occasions. Creating reports is simple. Creating reporting applications has ALWAYS been a frustrating pain in the behind. Crystal is supposed to be the premiere reporting application -- I am losing confidence in this fact and will soon be recommending alternate solutions to my clients. I am trying to get a Windows Forms app to run on a server in a background capacity. The application works fine on my developer's machine, but I continue to get the following very bothersome error on the server: "Cannot find KeycodeV2.dll, or invalid keycode." I have researched this error in the Crystal Knowledge Base and followed its recommendations without avail. Futhermore, I have searched the Google news groups and found that many others are frustrated by the same thing. They have referred to the KB and followed its instructions and still the same damn error! The KB results is a false hope. You think you're onto something, but in the end you find your efforts are in vain. I have registered the license no. in VS.NET. I have registered the keycodev2.dll. I have verified that all the necessary assemblies are registered in the GAC or local folder. I have searched the net for hours, going on days. This is sickening and disgusting. AND... this is not the first time this has happened to me. I have run into Crystal troubles in the past and have had to spend too many hours working out the issues. Crystal keeps on enhancing the reporting features, but they do very little by way of enhancing the ease with which developers can create custom Crystal apps. I for one am getting FED UP with Crystal. If they're going to support a KB, then I expect it to be USEFUL. Run a Google search and you'll see how many others have been frustrated by this same issue. DID ANYONE EVER SOLVE IT? Mario T.     - ShadowCopyFiles problem Hi, I have been in trouble with AppDomainSetup.ShadowCopyFiles. I create some object instances on newly created app. domain, which I have created. It works very well but I want to turn off shadow copying for this domain by setting ShadowCopyFiles property to "false", but my assembly is still shadow copied into a "cache" directory. Has anyone an idea how is it possible ?     - Assembly Redirection does not work Hello, I am having a hard time redirecting a VB.Net assembly. The old and new assemblies are version major 1 and minor 0. The build and revision number are different. 1.0.1519.15373 to 1.0.9.9 I tried creating binding policy using the same keyfile as the original and new assembly and a config file. I named the new policy assembly Policy.1.0.MyAssembly.dll. That didn't work. I looked in the .Net Configuration tool under configured assemblies, and their was a binding redirect to the new version. That also updated my machine.config That didn't work. Private web application assemblies on my machine are still referencing the old assembly. I also tried adding the new assembly to the GAC, and inserting something into the machine.config manually and that didn't work. What am I doing wrong?     - Posible to resume uploads? Hi I'm busy writing an upload to web site utility, in C#, for my client. It uploads zip file to a iis server with a virtual directory shared for that purpose. By using WebRequest, WebResponse and the "PUT" method i've been successfull at uploading files. Using the Stream, StreamReader and StreamWriter i also got a nice progress bar goin. It all works lovely, but is it possible to make it resume uploads like FlashGet and ReGet is doing resume downloads? As far as I understand, they using headers to empliment resume downloads. I tried using a stream of the uploaded file(that should be resumed) on the server, but cannot seek it. Can get the size of the file. So put the file pointer to end of the file, and just start appending to the file. If that was possible it would be much easier. But it does not work. It normally comes back that seek is not allowed or just times out, depending on the method I'm using.     - multi user display problem Hi, I'm using ASP.NET and creating a web application. In two areas of the app, I am dynamically building pages. One displays data on screen and the other builds reports. Everything works fine when a single user is using the application. When multiple users access these pages at the same time, the display fouls up. It seems all controls are being created and displayed, but not on each individual's browser.     - Firing events on a differnet thread I've just been thinking about scenarious where firing an event causes a number of handler to execute - all of them potentially taking some time to complete. With a UI control, that could be a problem. The answer of course is to use threads - but I was wondering what the rule of thumb was here. I've steared clear form firing the event on a different thread as I could see how that could begin to be a real nightmare to debug (so handle thread creation/management by the various handers). I want essentially the same info you get by opening the Computer Managerment console, looking at "Shared Folders" and clicking in the "Sessions" and "Open Files" folders in there. Basically, all it does is make things easier on my beta testers by letting them click a button to copy all the information I want on an exception to the clipboard, from where they can paste it into an email to me. I have heard so many issues with failed sp1 installations and problems
with applications after installing the service pack that it makes me
nervous. We are moving our development to .Net and yet have been
unable to install this service pack on 3 of our machines. While I am
sure, if I dig deep enough, I will find the solution to fixing (Yes, I
have even uninstalled 1.1 and reinstalled it) but I shudder to think
what will happen when my end-users need to update their .Net
installations.

I guess nobody has a solution for this? I know I am not the only one
getting this same error as there are other posts here with the same
thing, but nobody has yet to offer a solution as far as I can see.
