    - Dynamic Event raising. How? Hi all, I'm trying to be "smart" and have some kind of dynamic event invocation. I have differfent events, all of them raised by my application. Because I do not want to wait for some answers I call BeginInvoke and send EndInvoke as a parameter for my callback method. Now. What I want to do I something similar, but using reflection.     - Deploying class library into GAC Hello. I have installed my .dll into the GAC using the Gacutil.I did this by first creating a strong name key and adding the AssemblyKeyFile attribute to the AssemblyInfo.vb file. I thought doing so would result in being able to add a reference to it in subsequent projects by selecting References/Add Reference, and selecting it from the .Net tab. Along with the file, which travels as a DIME attachment, I'm also sending along metadata information about the file as it exists on the server. The metadata also travels as a DIME attachment in XML format. As you can see, the metadata contains several file timestamps. What I'm trying to do is set the local file timestamps for Created, Modified and Accessed to the same values as the file on the server. But If the application has been running for 23 minutes or longer, the socket will forever wait for BeginConnect() to finish. If I use a Connect() instead of async connecting the call will block forever. I am using the following (pseudo) code to test. If running this after 23 minutes, the connect fails and it is impossible to reconnect without restarting the application. Is this known behaviour? Is there a workaround?     - FileSystemWatcher problem I'm trying to create my own TreeView and I was experimenting by displaying my hard drive. For that I create a "FileSystemModel" and to make it better when I open a folder I create a FileSystemWatcher on it so I automatically update my representation when the directory change. I get the list of files with Directory.GetDirectories() & Directory.GetFiles(). I get a directory named: 'C:\System Volume Information' I created a watcher on it, but when I executed watcher.EnableRaisingEvents = true; the following exception was thrown: System.IO.FileNotFoundException was unhandled Message="Error reading the C:\\System Volume Information directory." Now I don't get it... I would have kind of understand some sort of SecurityException, but why FileNotFound on a directory returned by Directory.GetDirectories() OK, let's call that a minor bug, how do I cull out these 'dangerous' special folders? -- If you're in a war, instead of throwing a hand grenade at the enemy, throw one of those small pumpkins. I'm using the motherboard serial and CPU serial, with ManagementObjectSearcher class. This relies on WMI. On Win9x, since it doesn't support WMI, I simply get the windows volume serial, although it's not as good. But now the problem is. The user needs to be admin in order to get those codes!     - Connecting remotely to Oracle database without OracleClient installed Hello, I am developing a .Net (version 1.1) application in C# for which I need to connect remotely to an Oracle database server. To accomplish this I am using the .NET Framework Data Provider for Oracle (System.Data.OracleClient.dll). However, this application will be distributed to multiple clients so I do not want to require that they install OracleClient itself. Currently the application is throwing the following exception when attempting to connect to the remote database: System.Data.OracleClient.OracleException: ORA-12154: TNS:could not resolve service name The data provider is apparently attempting to find the tnsnames.ora file to resolve the service details, however this file does not exist as OracleClient is not installed. The application works fine when OracleClient is installed, but as stated, I do not want this to be a requirement. How can I connect remotely to the Oracle database server in the .Net framework without installing the OracleClient? Thanks in advance for any help.     - client-side maximum string length enforcement When I was working with ASP/ADO, I would get the maximum string length by querying the system tables inside the mssql database. It wasn't the wisest thing to do, but it did let me determine the max string length for each of my textboxes, which kept me from writing updates that couldn't be successfully submitted because of strings that are too long. Now I have an ASP.NET client talking to a Web Service which gets it's data out of a MS SQL Server database.     - Executing 2 Threads Hello Everyone, Iâ??m having a bit of difficulty with a threading scenario. Basically Iâ??m creating 2 threads and trying to execute them one after the other. The problem is that the second thread never fires. My environment is a bit complex, and Iâ??m wondering of thatâ??s what is working against me. At the top level I have s series of windows services running which all operate independent of each other. Each of these services operates on a timer and with each tick event will try to create an instance of a new â??Engineâ?? class. The â??Engineâ?? classes that are being created further instantiate â??Helperâ?? classes. Each â??Helperâ?? supports a â??Start_Moduleâ?? method which takes no parameters. When the â??Start_Moduleâ?? method is called the â??Helperâ?? class will perform various tasks such as updating records in SQL Server and or formatting data. Each of my â??Engineâ?? classes also support a method called â??Start_Engineâ?? which is responsible for instantiating my â??Helperâ?? classes. To further complicate things, each â??Engineâ?? class also supports â??Can_Stopâ?? Boolean method which will look at of each of itâ??s child threads to see if the Engine can be unloaded from memory by the controlling Windows service. So my main problem is that once I create and start the â??Engineâ?? class it will successfully create the 1st thread, but never get around to starting the 2nd thread. Is P/Invoke only used with unmanaged API functions, or could I use Interop instead?
