    - CAS issue accessing byte[] resource Hi, I have a CAS problem related to a serialized object in a satellite assembly. Specifically, I have an application with one EXE and two DLLs on my server. The EXE uses one of the DLLs, and that DLL uses the other DLL as a satellite assembly (which contains an embedded resource). It all works well on planet Earth, but when I try to launch the app. through a "Smart Client". I've narrowed the issue down to the resource in the satellite assembly; the main assembly needs to get a resource (byte array) from the assembly, which it does with ResourceManager rm = new ResourceManager(name, Assembly.GetExecutingAssembly(Â)); return (byte[])rm.GetObject(resourceOÂbjectName); This fails in low trust, because the code doesn't have permission to deserialize the type (even though it's a harmless byte array :(). I added the assembly to the GAC and it did work, but that's not an acceptable solution :[. This all seems to be in-line with http://www.thinktecture.com/Resources/RemotingFAQ/Changes2003.html, but I'm afraid I don't see how to apply that to this situation.     - HttpWebRequest Bonsoir, Je developpe une application permettant le telechargement de fichiers via le net a l'aide du composant HttpWebRequest. Je developpe avec le Framework 1.1. J'ai remarque que certaines machines plantaient les telechargements au dela de cinq downloads simultanees alors que d'autres non!! En approfondissant un peu je me suis rendu compte que celles qui plantaient avaient le SP1 tandis que celles qui fonctionnent ont le SP2.     - Debugging a server app Hi, I am having the following event logged when I try to debug a COM+ server application: "The server {54AD3709-9B43-42A8-B896-404FDCF4AC85} did not register with DCOM within the required timeout" I also get a dialog box saying "An error ocurre while processing the last operation. Error code 8008005 - Server execution failed. The event log may contain additional troubleshooting information". And all I am doing is: I go to the Component Services Explorer and I Start the COM+ application. This opens an instance of VS.NET 2003 containing dllhost.exe.     - True asynchronous HttpWebRequest implementation with abort and timeout Hi, I'm tired of seeing all these asynchronous HttpWebRequest implementations that still tend to use a seperate thread or they just block. A Question: 1) How do I implement a cancel method that aborts the request? HttpWebRequest.Abort() method does just that, but I don't see how the Cancel() method can get access to the RequestState, as request states are passed around in asynchronous object manner?     - HttpWebRequest connecting to tivo webserver I am trying to write a little app that will parse my Tivo's Now Playing xml doc using ASP.NET (or winforms, i just want something to work at this point). Below is the code that I am using. What happens is that I get 401: Unauthorized when I call req.GetResponse(). But using the same url, username, password and accepting the cert manually in IE or firefox, I am able to access the url. Any insight as to what is happening would be greatly appreciated. I am thinking that this is a username/password problem because of the 401: Unauthorized response, but maybe it is a certificate problem? I haven't found too many examples out there on handling ssl request/responses using HttpWebRequest or WebClient.     - Socket.Connected Hi there, I'm playing with Socket and Telnet (via hyperterminal). I'm trying to display a message when the client disconnect, that is when hyperterminal either close the connection, or is closed, on the client side. But, Socket.Connected always seems to return true, even though I do as in the doc and do a 0 byte Send before checking its value. Commenting out the lines //allDone.WaitOne(); //myRequestState.response.Close(); made it work asynchronously, without blocking and without throwing an exception! hooray!     - How to control TCP/IP connections used with HttpWebRequest ? Hi All! After checking with packet sniffer that for every created HttpWebRequest / HttpWebResponse followed by Close() call my box creates new TCP/IP connection I just wonder if there is a way to use single long lasting TCP/IP connection with a given server for multiple HttpWebRequest / HttpWebResponse operations.     - SerialPort and hardware flow control After some tests with a serial connection and the SerialPort class, I found out that in hardware flow control, you have to manually stop sending data when the CTS ligne goes low. I made some test and the SerialPort class doesn't seem to react to the CTS signal. If you tell to send 1000 bytes, it will send them no matter what the CTS level is. The only way I found to make all this works is by waiting for SerialPort.CtsHolding to become true and then send a single byte. And so on and so forth until the complete buffer is sent. I also found out that the Handshaking enumeration have a RequestToSend member but no "Hardware". So it really seems that the SerialPort class only handle automatically the RTS line and not the CTS line. Am I right or is there a way to tell the SerialPort class to handle the CTS signal, ie stop sending the bytes in the buffer momentarily until the CTS line is up?     - .Resources differences between Visual Studio 2005 beta1 and beta2 Our build system builds against the 1.1 .Net framework, but uses msbuild from Visual studio 2005. This allowed us to create ant style .csproj build scripts, which we couldn't do with Visual Studio 2003. All of this worked fine with Visual Studio 2005 beta1. When we were forced to upgrade, with no notice, our build system no longer worked. In beta 1 there was a tool called cfresgen.exe which has been removed and replaced with resgen.exe in beta2. The cfresgen allowed us to compile our .resx resources files and convert them to .resources files which could be used when building against the 1.1 framework. The new resgen tool which has superceded this will again allow us to do this compilation, however when the .resources files it generates are used within the 1.1 framework they fail.     - marshal complex structures to native C dll Hi All, I have a problem with marshaling complex structures (containing numbers, strings, arrays of another structures) to native C function in dll. I have already posted same question to .compactframework thread, but nobody helped. main problem is that I have tried all the workarounds I have found in the Inet but nothing worked... I tried passing IntPtr, Byte Arrays, Serialisation, even used OpenNETCF, but all failed. I have even compiled own C dll (eVC 4.0) with same structures and functions, and there I can see what is passed in params and can return needed values. Result - the structure I pass to the function is empty and the structure I return from the function is not retrieved to outside (I have same structure that passed to function with no changes) any ideas? I need to do it on VB.NET for Compact Framework thanks in advance for any help.     - OnStop timing out, service manager terminating process? I have a C# service that spawns multiple worker processes which it controls through remoting. The worker processes call 3rd party, unsafe components, which can and do bahave badly, and will eat memory and stall, or just hang on occasion. So now I've run into a problem where I want OnStop to attempt to shutdown the worker processes cleanly, wait for a short period and finally terminate the worker processes with Process.Kill if they don't respond. The problem seems to be that the service manager will stop the service, OnStop will execute for 30-60 seconds, and the service manager simply terminates the service process before it can kill the worker processes. When this happens, I end up with rogue worker processes that are consuming resources and difficult to kill. Is there any way to figure out how long I can wait? Is there any way to extend the shutdown time, by sending status to the service manager? I can't seem to find any documentation on how long OnStop is allowed to execute, and it seems to terminate the service process at varying times in my shutdown process.     - Threading question Ok, I'm trying to learn how to use threading, but I've run into a problem. I'm doing this in VB.Net. I started out making something pretty simple. Just a sort of wrapper for cmd.exe. I used separate threads to read from stdin and stderr. It seemed to be working ok. Then I added macros to it. Here's what's happening. The sub that runs the commands gets called several times in a row very quickly. It's spawns a new cmd.exe process each time, and a couple of threads to listen for the output. The problem is that the commands can take different amounts of time to finish, so the output I get is all out of order. What happens is that when a dataset is being merged an exception is being thrown which reads System.ArgumentOutOfRangeException: Load factor needs to be between 0.1 and 1 This hasn't been an issue until a day or so ago when we did our latest build. The dataset has not changed significantly recently, it does have a reasonable number of tables although we can get the issue when there is very little in the various tables.     - How can I disable Net Framework >>without<< uninstalling it? I have the Service Pack installed, but this program is just plain buggy. I don't even WANT it, but I couldn't get my ATI drivers to install unless I had it on the system. I don't mind if the files just sit there; I just don't want them RUNNING. Not once have I been able to shut down my computer without having to suffer a 2 minute wait while "NET FRAMEWORK is not responding." I have Windows 2000 Professional and am about to commence a reinstall with new HDD's, so I want to see this modification in action BEFORE I do the new install, just to see how it's affecting my video (if at all).     - Is there a way to check for "exclusive" access to a file? Hi, I have an application that watches a directory using FileSystemWatcher. When a specific type of files comes over, I want to parse it and then move it. However, these files can be somewhat large, and the FTP process isn't complete when I try to access the files. In those instances, an exception is thrown when I try to access the file. Is there a way that I can check to see if the files is ready for reading and moving before I read it? That way I can wait until it's ready instead of having the exception thrown.     - Slow loading of XML in debugger only I have an C++ application that uses MSXML.DLL to load and parse an XML file. When the application starts from the debugger the XML loads/parses VERY slowly.     - unable to install SQL Express 2005 CTP Hi, Am trying to install SQL Server Express CTP on my machine (Windows XP with SP1). I have downloaded the windows installer and .net framewrok specified in the readme file(ReadmeSQLEXP2005.htm) and also followed the steps given. but could not install express. I tried installing both June and april edition. When I tried to install april edition the below error window is popped up when the setup is in progress during configuring "SQL Server Database Services", But am logged in windows domain with admin rights and also I tried running setting through a local admin user (not logged to win domain) but still facing the same error. "Please user an admin account when installing on XP SP1 Systems. Setup cannot proceed with non-admin accounts on XP SP1 systems. Refer to the product documentation for more information" When I tried to install june edition the following error was shown before any install window popped. I used the uninstall wizard and removed .net framework and again installed framework (tried with different version of 2.0 framework like *64,*86, IA64) "SQL Server 2005 CTP Setup has detected incompatible beta components from Visual Studio or SQL Server. You must run the build cleanup wizard from the CD to remove previous SQL Server 2005 components and .NET Framework components, and then run SQL Server 2005 CTP Setup again.     - Dynamically Create Type By Version Our software is interface based meaning that we don't add any references to implemntation assemblies. All loading is done via Activator.CreateInstance(assembly, class name). Our components that we are instancing are loaded in the GAC. In preparing for a version change in our software we are wondering how we would be able to instance a particular version of a component. Say I know the class name and assembly, yet there is a version 1.0.0.0 and a version 2.0.0.0 and I specifically want to load version 1.0.0.0. What can I do to ensure this is the version that I get? There doesn't seem to be an overload for loading a particular version of a component via Activator. I thought I would create the type as well, but I can't fiure out how to specify version. The ASP.NET VB Quickstart tutorials have web form examples some of which connect to the database.
