    - Using assemlby without depending on it I am trying to use a 3rd party assembly that may or may not be available on a given machine. Is there a way I can use the classes within that assembly without it throwing an assembly load exception when the assembly file is not available? I want to safely bypass the feature if the assembly is not there. I was going to try using the Assembly a = Assembly.Load() but there are a lot or properties and method that I need to use. To reproduce: Create a socket establish connection Create NetworkStream with Ownership Of a socket (or just work socket directly) Call BeginReceive on stream or socket dereference network stream The conneciton will stay up until parent process is terminated.     - CultureInfo UseUserOverride short time format not available W2K I am created a WinForms app on Windows 2000 and I would like to format the time using the custom format string I have specified in the control panel. I have the machine set to English (United States) and the time format is HH:mm:ss. I'd like to use a short time format string (e.g. no seconds), but the control panel doesn't allow me to set one.     - Windows service with console I'd like to write a windows service in .net, in itself that's not a big deal, but my problem comes from the fact that I'd quite like to have the ability to have a console attached to the service. The reasoning behind it is that Iâ??d like to have the option of some user input, but if they do something stupid (namely shutdown the service) it will restart itself and continue, plus it would be useful to have some screen logging, just the sort of stuff that is more than I want in the event log (start stop, error) but not the sort of level of detail that will be in the file logs, which is too much for the average service engineer to trawl through. I thought I read somewhere that there was a property along the lines of HasConsole, but I canâ??t find it, it what Iâ??m trying possible of do I need to write a trace listener to listen for information from the service?     - GC and active sockets I'm using .net 2.0 beta2 and noticing some strange behaviour around socket garbage collection. Problem: If a socket is a part of a class which has been instantiated, socket connected, and class de-referenced Socket will stay connected forever. Environment: Sockets are doing async read/write Question: How do i get it solved :) also - is putting something on IOCP thread will cause garbage collection to fail because of internal blocking that is going on. How can i clean up connected socket which is a member of a class which suddenly lost refernece. Under normal conditions I do clean up, however, there are scenarios where abnormal termination of a thread can cause socket's parent class loose reference.     - aspx stops working after the 1.1 framework is installed Access to my aspx pages stopped working on my development machine. I tried everything I know to get it to work such as re-registering iis with aspnet_regiis -i -enable with no luck. So I bit the bullet and uninstalled VS2003 and IIS from my XP SP2 machine. I reinstalled IIS and the aspx's ran, I then installed the 1.1 framework and they stopped working. I even tried installing the service pack with no luck. When I try to run an aspx page I hear a bell with no message on the screen. I see disk activity and the inetinfo.exe process is running at 99% in task manager. Hi, I need to built an application (VB.NET) to manage Clients, Orders, Suppliers, Products etc. But the users must be able to link word documents/excel/emails to all those entities (Customers, Orders, Suppliers, ...).     - .NET Framework 2.0 Beta 2 install issue Hi, While installing Visual Studio 2005 Beta 2 for C#, the .NET framework 2.0 Beta 2 install doesnt complete and hangs. The problem started when my laptop went into Hibernate mode during the install (the battery ran low). On resumption, the install just hangs. After several restarts and shutdowns, the problem still persists. I cleanedup the registry of any .NET 2.0 entires (such as in the HKLM/Software/Microsoft/.NETFramework, etc.). I also renamed the MSCoree.dll, etc. The only clue I have so far is that when I try to UNINSTALL .NET framework 1.1, I get a message that say something like: Error 1704: .NET 2.0 Beta 2 install has made updates and is suspended.     - Exception in configuration section handler Hi All, I have an error occurring in my web.config file. It occurs when the application restarts and it only occurs once. A simple browser refresh clears the problem. It only happens in our development staging and testing environments (Win2K) but not in my development environment (WinXP) I would like to do two things: 1. Handle this exception gracefully (perhaps in Application_Error?) 2. Fix the cause of the problem. Can anyone help with either?     - keyboard capture I've written a simple application. It consists of main window, menu and a label. I added event handler to the main form (KeyDown), so when I push a key on the keyboard, then it's key code should be displayed using a label (label.Text = e.KeyCode). It works fine with "A", "B" etc. but when I press left arrow, up arrow etc, the main menu popups and KeyDown event is not handled. What should I do ? PS. I use .NetFramework 2.0 Beta2.     - .NET Application does not release memory until minimized Hello, We have a local .NET application running against a local MSDE database. When the application is checking out data from the local MSDE SQL Server the procesor spikes, and the memory continues to grow. Once the application data is loaded from SQL into memory the application stays peaked at 300+MB. It will never reduce from this size (even over 20 minutes or so) until the application is minimized and then maximized. At this point the application resets to it's initial memory size and the available memory slowly creeps back to a normal level. This is causing all sorts of miscellaneous program errors because memory is tied up and not being freed again. Any ideas on how to get the .NET Applicaition to give back the memory it is not using? We're using .NET Framework 1.1, Visual Studio VB.NET 2003, MSDE 2000 with SP3a, on Windows XP SP1 and Windows 2000 Professional SP3 (same behavior on both Operating Systems).     - Socket Broadcasting with Multiple Adapters I'm getting some weirdness when sending out broadcasts on a system with two adapters. The adapters are configured with IP addresses on seperate subnets. Packets get sent out on each interface, but the source addresses (as seen from a packet sniffer) on both packets is the IP address for adapter #1. This creates a problem when clients on adapter #2's network try to respond because they can't reach the source address on adapter #1's network.     - Terminal Service and Allow service to interact with desktop Hello, I have developed a Windows Service using C# that interacts with an external application. The external application is used as monitor for the Windows service and is launched from the service using "Start" method of the Process class. The external application is a C# window form with a "system tray" icon. On XP, 2000, and even 2003, everything works great and the icon is displayed in the system tray... But when the user is logged into terminal services, the icon is not displayed in the system tray. We really need this icon to display in the system tray in all cases, but do not have a clue on how to get it to display while logged in under "Terminal Services"...     - monthCalendar DateChanged issue - documented behaviour? I've searched for this problem but haven't found any posts on it - hope this isn't a duplicate... I had a strange event occur earlier today and have isolated the 'problem'. In its simplest form I have a monthCalendar control and textBox control on a form, and have added an event handler that clears the text in the textBox when the DateChanged event is fired. The problem is that I find if text is entered in the textBox, after just under 2 minutes (on my system) the DateChanged event is apparently fired (even if no activity is occurring) and the textBox will be cleared. To isolate this I went back to the DateChanged event handler example in the MS docs and stripped the code down (also changing some of the values for sizes and alignments).     - Crystal Report external formatting Hi, I'm working on a project of creating reports using MS Visual Studio 2003 and Crystal 10. An XML with all the data will be passed to the program for generating the report. Since we're applying this to quite a few clients, I'm wondering if there's a way to have an external formatting file (like CSS) that we can load to the report at runtime to customize the fonts and colors of the fields? I know that you can setup the CSS Class for viewing the report through the web. But is there any other method that doesn't go thru the web?     - Memory Management I have an .NET application that calls a DLL compiled with a fortran compiler. Users are having a problem that the fortran DLL complains that is unable to allocate memory when the arrays it is using are too big. After reading around I decided that increasing the MaxWorkingSet for my process may help. However, the Fortran DLL fails (when it tries to allocate memory for an array containing abotu 900Mb of data) before it gets to this MaxWorkingSet value (about 1400Mb). So, to try and get an understanding of this I tried to set the MaxWorkignSet to about 500Mb. However, the fortran DLL is quite happily able to allocate memory for an array that contains several 100Mb over this value. During this, looking in the task manager I aslo see the peak memory usage has also gone well over the MaxWorkingSet value. Can someone explain to me what MaxWorkignSet really means? And is there anyway I can get windows to let the fortran DLL allocate more memory? Since someone is sure to ask, the fortran DLL contains a subroutine that implements a mathematical model and I have now control over its desgn or how much memory it tries to allocate.     - Optional values? Hi, In my C# applicaiton, I use ADOX to reach and check the user permissions in my Access database. To do this, there is a function named "GetPermissions". This function gets 3 arguments where the 3rd one is optional. But the C# compiler doesn't accept giving only 2 parameters and whatever I put into the third one (null, "", etc.) I get an exception.     - FileSystemFileWatcher I write an application. When one file is created in the specified folder, it runs one method (using SystemFileWatcher). I test my app carefully. But my customer report that: When copy file to that folder (that folder is empty) , that method doesn't run. I read file log, and I reliaze that: event "OnCreated" of FileSystemWatcher isn't raised.     - About IE Hosted UserControl auto download I have just finished an IE Hosted UserControl named MyUserControl, which can automatically download from IIS site if I assigned the URL to http://MyComputer/MyFolder/index.htm. However, if I assigned the URL to http://www.MyCompany.com/MyFolder/index.htm or http://localhost/MyFolder/index.htm, IE will not automatically download the MyUserControl from iis. Where three of MyComputer, www.MyCompany.com, and localhost means same machine. Why? They are same machine, why only a shortly computer name can download, but long site name and localhost cannot download? Because of security issue?     - Calling WebService from Windows App causes Windows App to never qu I created a WebService on the order of a WindowsUpdate type of functionality. I call the following routine, and once I've done that, my Windows Application stays around as a running process forever (or until I kill it with task manager). This is very odd. The application does not appear to hang, it seems to work perfectly. It even appears to exit, but looking in task manager you can see that it stays in memory. There must be something I have to do to properly dispose of my web service, but I'm not sure what it is. Can anyone help?     - C#2.0 Form to COM object? I have a standalone app created in C# that is used to browse a database of archived documents called DocDB. We have some older legacy code written in Delphi that we wish to enhance with the DocDB's functionality. My idea was to give DocDB methods for controlling it from a seperate process via COM (much like Word for example, but with only a few public methods) I have defined public methods in my forms based class, I have used an SNK file, I successfully installed it into the GAC and run regasm. I have also created a public interface for the few methods I need.     - when is hashcode used? Hello All, I have been facing this bizarre problem within a combobox having a list of UK postcodes. When I assign the SelectedItem propoerty of the combobox, a completely different item was actually selected in the combobox. I broke into the code at the assignment statement and then looked at the values for different items in the watch window. It looked something like this : postcodeObj : EH11 1LQ comboBox1.SelectedIndex = -1 (nothing currently selected) comboBox1.Items.IndexOf(postcodeObj) : 1614 comboBox1.Items[1614].ToString() : EH11 1LA (something different to what i am intending to set as selected item) I also found out that my item was at the location 1621 in the combobox items. The combobox is no sorted, and I couldn't figure out what was going wrong here, till I added 2 more things in the watch window comboBox1.Items[1614].GetHashCode( ) comboBox1.Items[1621].GetHashCode( ) These 2 values appeared to be same, Now I remember that I have overriden the GetHashCode() method in my postcode object to return a hashcode, it creates a hashcode based on the postcode string and one more attribute. (XOR the number and the hashcode of the string) My question is, Is hashcode used internally by the 'SelectedItem' set method? Is there any way for me to get round this problem? I have the postcode strings and a unique number, Can I generate a unique hashcode from this combination? I don't want the number to be my hashcode.     - C#, Getting list of logged on Terminal Service Users Hello, I am searching for a way to retrieve the list of currently logged on terminal server users. Not only do I have to know who is currently using a remote desktop session, but also need to prevent other users from logging in. I found a way of getting a list of running processes and link them to the owning users, but there must be a better way... for example, Terminal Server brings a tool called query.exe which shows the users currently logged in. Hi to all.

I would like to remove the wizard for the new hardware addiction (plug &
play). This is because I have installed my driver but the message continues
to appear when I connect the device.

Can I trap this event in my .NET application?

Have you got any ideas?
