    - .NET Framework Path Hello all, Just a quick question... Is it true that the path of the .NET framework SDK files is always under: {windir}\Microsoft.NET\Framework\{version} ? I.e. is there anyway the user could change this path? I'm asking this because I am currently creating an IDE for .NET programming and wanted to know the path for csc.exe, vbc.exe, ilasm.exe, etc...     - Regular expressions and HTML Hi I'm working on a method that will transform an HTML fragment into an XHTML fragment. I thought I'd have a go at using regular expressions in .NET, because I don't really understand the numerous regular expression classes in .NET and I thought it might be a good opportunity to learn. I want to break down the HTML into element names, attribute names, attribute values and element content. The regular expression I came up with, that successfully matches fragments such as <div contenteditable id="test">, looks like this: ^(?<precedingText>[^<>]*)((((<(?<elementName>[a-zA-Z_][a-zA-Z0-9_]*)\s*((?<=\s)(?<attributeName>[a-zA-Z_][a-zA-Z0-9_]*)((\s*=\s*""(?<attributeValue>[^""]*)""\s*)|(\s*=(?<attributeValue>[^\s"">]+)\s*)|(\s*(?!\s*=))))*\s*>))|(</(?<closingElementName>[a-zA-Z_][a-zA-Z0-9_]*)\s*>))(?<text>[^<>]*))*$ A bit complicated I know, but it works. However, now I don't know how to extract the various elementName, attributeName etc. group values in order to match them up. All seems a bit wild to me. Can anyone tell me the best way to construct a regular expression in order to produce the desired result?     - How to obtain invalid file name characters Hi, How does one obtain a platform's invalid file name characters from the .NET framework? I have noticed that invalid path characters can be obtained from System.IO.Path.InvalidPathChars but this list does not include items that would be illegal for file names (for example, a colon: would be invalid in a MS Windows environment). Please note that catching an exception from Path.GetFileName() would allow me to test the validity of a file name but would not allow me to include the invalid characters in a message to the user.     - Faulty implmentation of ThreadPool.RegisterWaitForSingleObject I think I've found a problem in the framework implementation of the ThreadPool RegisterWaitForSingleObject method. Given the following C# code: static void Main(string[] args) { ManualResetEvent evt1 = new ManualResetEvent(false); ManualResetEvent evt2 = new ManualResetEvent(false); ThreadPool.RegisterWaitForSingleObject(evt1, new WaitOrTimerCallback(EventProc), "Event 1", 30000, false); ThreadPool.RegisterWaitForSingleObject(evt2, new WaitOrTimerCallback(EventProc), "Event 2", 30000, false); evt1.Set(); evt2.Set(); Thread.Sleep(20); evt2.Reset(); evt1.Reset(); } private static void EventProc(object state, bool timedOut) { Console.WriteLine(state); } I'd expect to see messages for both Event 1 and Event 2 during the time they are both set. However, only messages from Event 1 show up. According to the docs, the RegisterWaitForSingleObject method is implmented using the Win32 WaitForMultipleObjects call to monitor all of the registered objects, with the fWaitAll parameter set to false I'd assume. However in that case, the WaitForMultipleObjects call only returns at most one indicator of a signaled object even if more than one of the objects are signaled. That means that when both evt1 and evt2 are signaled in the above code, the program will only get notifications of the lowest indexed one in the WaitForMultipleObjects handle array. Obviously using manual event handles makes the problem stand out more, but this could definitely cause problems if someone expects notifications no matter how many other objects are signaled at the same time.     - IRDA and the Compact Framework Im not usre if this is the correct group but I am having major problems getting a compact framework application to connect to a irda printer. It will discover the device without problem but will tell me the connection was actively refused when I try to connect to it. I have tried and used a serial connection successfully (via emulator) and have all the code to print to the printer and read the in built mag card reader but I need to be able to acheive this over irda.     - Debugging classes from other language Hi, Today I´m a Delphi developer and would like to move to C#. I installed .NET Framework and .NET SDK, and downloaded the Borland C# Personal to start reading / testing the environment. Reading .NET documentation (from the beggining), I found some references explaining that I (developing in C# would use class libraries and components written in other languages that also has the .NET as target). If this is true, my question is simple.     - dataset.WriteXML fails to write whole content I have 5000 records in my dataset. On exit of application I'm dumping it to a file using WriteXML method. No errors are generated when writing to a file. But when application is starting it generates system error. When I looked into XML file it looks like DataSet has not been written entirely.     - Resource DLLs I'm in the middle of extending my Collapsible Panel (http://www.codeproject.com/cs/miscctrl/CollapsiblePanelBar.asp) control to support XP Themes & Styles. So I need to paint it according to the bitmaps that are stored in the current shellstyle.dll. Using uxtheme.dll I can get the current theme and work out the path to the current shellstyle.dll, but how can I extract the bitmaps from it?     - System.Net and NAT Somewhere buried in the System.Net namespace is a call or method that I really need that I cannot find. Most computers on the Internet these days go through NAT, where an private intranet address (192.168.x.x) gets translated through NAT and becomes visible on the Internet. My entire home network uses NAT, so I'm well versed in NAT on that end. My problem is with my web application. Because of it rather complex model, two computers connecting with the same public IP address get their data muddled between requests. I can get the public IP address easily, through the Request object, but how do I get the private IP address? It is the one way I can uniquely identify connecting computers, because even if they share the same public IP address, they cannot share the same private IP address. Any help is appreciated.     - hiding form names is it possible ( via iis or asp.net conf.) to hide form names from the client. for example, I have a web application named MyApp and from the browser I reach the applications start page as "http://server_name/MyApp. and when click a link in the start page that is pointing another webform in the application, then the address bar or stattus bar will not show the name of webform.     - .NET thread pooling problem Hi, I am developing a remote server application. this has to be service multiple requests at the same time. This is currently being done using the .Net thread pool. I have no problems with upto 25 clients accessing my server. After that I get an exception on the server , that the system is "unable to find a free thread to complete the requested operation". I know that .Net specifies a default setting of 25 worker threads and 25 IO threads, these defaults are specified in machine.config. But even by changing these parameters I am not being able to move beyond the limit of 25 simultaneous requests. I have also restarted my system after changing these parameters, but there is no change in behaviour. We are also printing to console, the number of WorkerThreads and RequestQueue by using ThreadPool.GetMaxThreads, but this prints 25 , 25 for both of these even after changes to the config file. We have also tried to configure the minFreeThreads , minLocalRequestFreeThreads and appRequestQueueLimit, but there is no change in behaviour. Why is the .Net thread pool not queueing the request if there are no free threads available? Is there a way to ensure this happens ? Also, what is the method of definitely increasing the thread pool size? Note: I am using .Net framework version 1.03. Any help would be highly appreciated.     - Excel and Typcasted Columns Grettings all, I'm having a problem with accessing data in a column of an Excel spreadsheet. It seems that when I access the spreadsheet using Oledb Connection method, a column get's typecasted according to the type of that column that occupies 51% of that data. So, when I'm trying to retrieve all the data in that column, if 51% of the column is integer, it nulls out the non-integer values!?     - Implement event interface defined in IDL? I am defining all my interfaces in IDL and then importing them into the GAC (using tlbimp and gacutil). No problem with normal interfaces. However, I'm trying to implement a source interface in C# and for some reason I can't seem to sink it from VB6? I get an error that the set of events are not implemented on the class. Has anyone done this? What are the exact steps?     - Writing to remote registry as a process I have a simple program that gets the names of all of the computers on our NT domain then changes the background color of the login screen in HK_USERS using OpenRemoteBaseRegistry. The program works fine, however not all of the computers listed on the domain are necessarily connected or turned on. Is there any way to either determine (quickly) if the computer is even connected to the network or perhaps run the registry changing portion of the program as a process so that I can kill the process if it takes more than a few seconds to write to the registry?     - Inheritance Problem I've got a design problem that the .net inheritance model will not let me solve. I didn't like the built in serialization (for various reasons) so I defined my own serialization approach. I wanted to define an interface ISerializable, and classes that need serialization would implement this. So I had a Job class for jobs my app needs to do: Interface ISerializable Sub Read() Sub Write() End Interface Class Job Implements ISerializable ... End Class BUT: I then inherited from Job: Class MySpecificJob Inherits Job ... End Class I wanted to have MySpecificJob implement ISerializable, and when called, it would serialize itself and then serialize MyBase, but .net doesn't allow this, saying: "Interface is already implemented by the base class" I think the framework should clearly let you override the implementation in a derived class, so that you can use interface based design in a situation like this. So then I tried defining a class: Class Serializable Sub Read() Sub Write() End Interface Class Job Inherits Serializable ... End Class This works well but breaks when I need to serialize a class that already inherits from something else, because .net also doesn't let you inherit from multiple classes.
