        • Basic question about threading. Hello all, I am completely new to threading and am sorry if this sounds stupid. I am developing a class which extends from ApplicationException class. Basically this class (MyException) captures local and instance variables and method parameters at the time of exception. This exception is then propogated upwards and goes on collecting the above mentioned information of all the method/classes through which it bubbles. For this purpose i have a "Dictionary<string, Snapshot> methodStates" in MyException which holds all the information. Finally i override the ToString method of ApplicationException to provide a nice view of all the data that my class contains. Anyway, now since ApplicationException is not thread safe 1)Does this mean that MyException is also not thread safe even if i lock methodStates collection whenever i access it? Is it that, if BaseClass is not threadSafe then DerivedClass cannot be thread safe no matter what you do. 2)Will the locking of the methodStates make sure that atleast my dictionary is thread safe? 3)What is it that makes ApplicationException not thread safe? From my limited knowledge, i know that a class with a mutable state is considered not thread safe. Basically i want to know if all the care that i am taking to lock my dictionary is worth anything at all. Any kind of help would be greatly appreciated. • ClickOnce Outside form a restricted Web site We have an application that we distribute internally, with in our domain. We would like to distribute it to a select group of users that will log into a Web site. I find very little information on using the ClickOnce technology when on needs to log into the publishing URL. Has any one tried this? Where can I find information on ClickOnce needing to logging into a Web site? Thank you, -- Mike Reed Tag: How to create a Listview using WPF Tag: 130680

What i want is i do System.Diagnostics.Process.Start("FileName"); Now if File is associated with any program then the File with open with that Application, this is working fine. My requirement says, if file extension is unknown or not associated with any application then, it should open the Default windows Program association box and allow user to select a program to open that file. Thanks. Abhijeet Kumar. Tag: How to create a Listview using WPF Tag: 130674

        • ClickOnce Deployment Manifest - publisherIdentity tag ClickOnce Deployment Manifest - publisherIdentity tag Using: Microsoft.NET 2.0 application built with VS.2005 I have been searching for some documentation on the xml tag publisherIdentity in the clickonce deployment manifest - and cannot find any documentation on the tag. I believe if I can set this value I will be able to resolve my ClickOnce deployment issue. Only document found: http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/k26e96zf(vs.80).aspx http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/acz3y3te(vs.80).aspx I have a ClickOnce application that is being publish from our QA environment to our UAT environment. I have publish the ClickOnce application as a Trusted Publisher. But when the application is launched in our UAT environment (signed with a valid CA issued certificate using mage). I receive a security warning (user can click Install or Don't Install) before the user can install the application. The only difference between UAT and QA is the certificate (which is valid) and the environment (QA vs UAT). I have followed the instructions in the MSDN article - but I have no resolutions. http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms996418.aspx Any help would be appreciated. • Using Timer: the application thread count keeps increasing Hi I am developing a scientific application which has moderate level image processing involved. In my application, there is a main application form which invokes another form. When this form is running, a timer function keeps executing every 250ms. The timer function does some real time data processing and generates a bitmap which needs to be displayed on a picture control. This is done using this->Invoke(...) in the form. I am using System.Threading.Timer. Now, in the Form_CLosing event, I am disposing the timer. I have following code for that. (C# programmers dont mind the syntax. It is C+ +/CLI) AutoResetEvent^ disposeEvent = gcnew AutoResetEvent(false); processingTimer->Dispose(disposeEvent); disposeEvent->WaitOne(); delete processingTimer; Despite this I observe that if I contineously Open and Close my form, the thread count (as seen in the task manager window) for my application keeps increasing. Also, sometimes the disposeEvent object does get set and the code hangs at WaitOne(). The reason for this could be that a particular timer instance must be waiting to finish InvokeRequired(...) and the main thread is waiting on the disposeEvent to get set (Deadlock situation). So I tried using System.Timers.Timer() which has better methods like Stop() and Close(). Now the hang problem is resolved. However the thread count keeps increasing. One thing could be that .NET is executing timer function on thread pool threads and just keeping then in suspended mode. However the thread count keeps increading until 130+ (I tested only this far) and hence I am worried. Is there a way to control the thread count? This seems like a standard problem. Does someone has a solution? Best regards Amit Dedhia Tag: How to create a Listview using WPF Tag: 130643

        • User Agent String not passed during HTTP CONNECT w/ proxy I have written an application to access a web service. The application runs at multiple sites and must cross a proxy server. The application runs fine through all proxy servers but one that is configured to require a "User-Agent" header. • Release is slower than debug... What's happening? Hi, I have a windows service that only loads a CSV file and import it's data using SqlBulkCopy in a newly created Sql Server 2005 table using 25000 rows batches. If I build the service in debug mode and run it, I get descent performances. If I build it in release mode, I would expect it to at least stay as fast and maybe be faster, but I actually lose performance. I lose about 10% performance. How can this happen? Here's what could be involved : - SqlBulkCopy Class a IDataReader implementation as a source which performance has been verified. - <SqlDbTypes>.Parse(...) - Array indexing - Boxing and Unboxing of objects - Generic classes (List, Dictionary, Hashtable) search by key Thanks ThunderMusic Tag: How to create a Listview using WPF Tag: 130580

        • A simple enough problem I have a class I've written that works great as is; however, I now need to add three additonal fields to it. One of the additional fields is an integer, as is the case with the already existing field...actually, I guess property would be the better name for it...anyway; the other two properties are for date fields. Admittedly, my mind is a bit fried from a lot of overtime, but I can't figure out how to modify this class for the life of me. The code is as follows: Imports System.Configuration Imports System.Data.SqlClient Imports Common.DataAccessLayer Imports Common Namespace Outreach <Serializable()> _ Public Class CallEpisodes #Region " Local variables " Private _CallEpisodeIds As CallEpisodes Private Shared _ConnectionString As String = _ ConfigurationManager.ConnectionStrings("EPSDTMain").ToString #End Region Sub New(ByVal CallEpisodeIds As CallEpisodes) _CallEpisodeIds = CallEpisodeIds End Sub ''' <summary> ''' Retrieves all the Call Episodes associated with a MemberID ''' </summary> ''' <param name="memberID"></param> ''' <returns>A list of all CallEpisodes for this MemberID</returns> ''' <remarks></remarks> Public Shared Function RetrieveCallEpisodesByMemberId(ByVal memberID As Integer) Dim ce As New List(Of Integer) Dim dr As SqlClient.SqlDataReader = SqlDataAccess.ExecuteReader(_ConnectionString, _ "Outreach.RetrieveCallEpisodesByMemberId", memberID) Do While dr.Read() ce.Add(dr("CallEpisodeID")) Loop If dr IsNot Nothing Then dr.Close() End If Return ce End Function End Class End Namespace How do I go about adding BeginDate, EndDate and ScriptID to this class such that I can return the information?
