    - DBConcurrency Exception Handling hi, I am creating a dbconcurrencyexception in my program. Update fails with 0 rows affected message. Because I changed the data in DB from SQL server front-end after my grid fills with data. i followed the example in msdn. in the handler, after prompting the user, i read the record from the DB and merge it with the current dataset. And try to update db again. The result is the same exception. Because merge does not override the original version of the record in the grid. So what should i do to handle this exception?     - Gridview, using Callbacks when Sorting and Paging For some reason when I enable the callback feature of the gridview I still get a page refresh, that is it seems like there is a postback that occurs, not a callback which is just supposed to update not the whole page, but a portion of the page. Strangely enough the URL below http://beta.asp.net/QUICKSTARTV20/aspnet/doc/ctrlref/data/gridview.aspx (VB GridView Paging and Sorting Callbacks example) has a callback example for gridview which explains that there should NOT be a page refresh, but it sure seems like the page refreshes (flickers) when I run the example. Using Callbacks when Sorting and Paging section) states that... <snipp> Client-Side Sorting and Paging The GridView control provides you with the option of sorting and paging records without requiring a form-post back to the Web server.     - FileSystemWatcher not firing events if Path is an empty string Dear All, In my C# application using .NET 1.1 I am trying to watch for file and directory events using FileSystemWatcher. Things are working as expected if I watch a specific directory. However I need to watch all folders on the local computer and I understood MSDN documentation that I can achieve it by setting FileSystemWatcher.Path to an empty string. I also set FileSystemWatcher.IncludeSubdirectories to true. However with this combination of properties FileSystemWatcher does not seem to fire any Created/Deleted/Renamed events on XP SP2.     - Text Files, Encoding and NewLine character hi, I'm creating a component to read text files. I'm using TextReader with Encoding Text component, because there are several different types of text files and the encoding component translates the bytes from this file to the correct characters. To which one of this text file's types almost all the time '\r\n' is the new line character. But sometimes it could not be, that's why I'm using NewLine property to know exactly who the next line characters are in which case. At that point all work's fine with TextWrite, but hell knows why TextReader doesn't have a NewLine property. Is there any way to identify the NewLine character of a determinate Encode system? or just stop using the NewLine and work only with '\r\n'? Another question, TextReader copies all file from the harddisk as soon as it is initiated, or it copies part of the file when I'm using Read();? As far as I am concerned, Microsoft should end the MVP program as all that it fosters is wanna be programmers who only give bad advice and never DO as they ADVISE. You have essentially ZERO experience in coding .NET to begin with. DEAR MICROSOFT: Kill off the MVP program. It only fosters people who strive for publicity in trying to get a programming job as opposed to being actually able to do the job. The MVP's only make programmers and the software industry look bad as a whole as these people are supposed to be MOST VALUEABLE....when in they in fact are the MOST WORTHLESS programmers ever, especially when they actually do get a job they only sit around with theory, and all that nonsense of architecture and best practices only to not even deliver the project to begin with. Why not put all that theory and knowledge to the test and actually see if it really works? Ha ha ha..like you can even do that? All these people do is get silly certification and they STILL CANNOT GET A JOB!!! Much less actually do the job.....Imagine that!!! It's no wonder companies go off shore, as the quality of software sucks anyway, so why pay extra in the US when it's going to be late, buggy and not what the customer wanted anyway. Hi I have forty clients applications in different places of the city, they connect to a DB via Internet, until now the clients report information and receive information only when they read the DB.(half duplex) Now I need to be able to send information from the server to the clients using a central Application, I need to send things like messages, enable and disable options from the server . I see in my SMTP log that I connect, hold the connection open for 4-5 min and then disconnect doing nothing.     - TextBox .text value will not update I have several TextBoxs in a datalist control and am allowing a user to make changes to them. Everything works fine but when I execue the update command for the datalist and use the FindControl method to read the value of the text box the changes made by the user are lost and the value is what was originally placed there by the databind function. I think is ref because sending a pointer to a class seems to be much more faster then copy all the class at once in the method call.     - Checking for implementation of an interface I have an application that accepts plugins. It allows the user to choose which plugins they want to run from a list of available plugins. My problem is that I need to build that list of plugins by checking the assemblies in the plugins folder to see if they implement the plugin interface. If I load each assembly and check it, then I have all those assemblies in memory until the application gets shutdown, even though the user may only want to use a few of them. My idea was to load them all into a separate appdomain to check them and build my list, and then unload that domain. Then I could just load the plugins that the user chooses. My problem is that I don't know how to check the assembly to see if it implements the plugin interface once its loaded into the separate appdomain. I know I need to use the AddFromTemplate but how do I determine the path to the template that I want to use, let's say the template is the "winfxapplication" template, which on my machine is "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio 8\Common7\IDE\VBExpress\ProjectTemplatesCache\1033\WindowsApplication.zip\windowsapplication.vstemplate" Or do I point it at the .vbproj file: "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio 8\Common7\IDE\VBExpress\ProjectTemplatesCache\1033\WindowsApplication.zip\windowsapplication.vbproj" I'm assuming there are just a few lines of code required. First of all, I want to create a VS2005 object.     - Protecting classes with LicenseManager: COM issue Hello, I have a class (C#) in an assembly that I wish to protect with a licensing scheme. The class is designed to be consumed by any other managed code language, and via COM clients. That is, the class is registered for COM interop, and may be instantiated by VBS code, etc. We are using the inherent .NET Framework licensing classes. We've used the LicenseProviderAttribute to specify a LicenseProvider descendent. The LicenseProvider descendent's GetLicense() method checks the LicenseContext for LicenseUsageMode.Runtime or LicenseUsageMode.DesignTime. This works great when the class is being instantiated by a .NET application. We run into a problem when the class is instantiated via COM interop from, say, a VBS script. Currently in my application I have pushpins that move according to GPS locations that are constantly being updated. Everything seems to work fine but when I start using the toolbar functions in the mappoint object while tracking/updating points I always get this following error: An unhandled exception of type 'System.Runtime.InteropServices.COMException' occurred in TrackBerryMapPoint.exe Additional information: Call was rejected by callee. For example, if i use the location search bar while I'm tracking, the find dialog box pops up and then everything crashes. I'm using a timer for the updates of the tracking points and I think that might cause the exception. If anyone has an suggestions I'd appreciate it very much. I have a main form and also a subform, when I close the subform, the main form also closes, which obviously terminates the application.     - "scrolling buttons" I would like to make some kind of buttons that can be used to scroll other things. Actually it would like it to be exactly as in Lightwave's Envelope Editor - when you push the button, the mouse pointer should disappear and you should be able to scroll something with moving your mouse up/down and left/right. Perphaps hiding mouse wouldn't be that hard [or would it?], but I wonder about "scrolling" itself - I generally use MouseMove event, and in this case the pointer would quickly leave the button's area and i would get no event to handle... What's the best way to deal with that?     - .Net Framework 2 Beta 2 Hi Can anyone tell me what version of mscorlib is shipped with the .net framework 2 beta 2? On my machine it is 2.0.0.0 and on a colleagues machine it is 2.0.3600.0. Which is the correct version? I am havineg problems loading .net 1.1 assemblies when I have the .net2 framework installed on my machine and it seems to be because mscorlib is taking into account the "processarchitecture" attribute when creating the reference identity and comparing it with the definition identity which does not have the "processarchitecture" attribute, so it says the referenced file cannot be located.     - Transaction code causing runtime exception Hi, I am currently trying write a windows form without much success to implement an enterprise transaction that will encapsulate a write to an oracle database, write a text file and then open a user control in another windows form an collect a response from this. I have been getting the following run-time error 'System.EnterpriseServices.SerÂvicedComponentException' occurred in system.enterpriseservices.dll then i stop the debug application and the following runtime appears at the same point when i run it again. A first chance exception of type 'System.IO.FileNotFoundExceptiÂon' occurred in mscorlib.dll followed by A first chance exception of type 'System.ArgumentException' occurred in mscorlib.dll Additional information: Type passed must be an interface. If i restart the machine i will receive the first error again. I have added a strong name key to the application, also my actual class that contains the transaction does nothing but open the trnsaction and then complete it, but the class resides within the forms executable and not a complied dll. It is still Beta so I don't recommend you to rely on it while developing
real-world commercial products.

Well I'm developping with VS.NET2005beta2
I know I can all build with the command line anyway, but it's a bit of a
chore with the resources and VS.NET is currently out of my reach
financially... but VC# will do!
And my (personal) project is far from completion right now, so VC# beta
state is not much of an issue...
