    - Cannot get Device ID on Pocket PC 4.2 I have been using the code posted on http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/library/en-us/dnnetcomp/html/retrievedeviceid.asp to get the device ID on Pocket PC 3.0 devices, and it is working well. However, this code does not work on devices which are running the 4.2 OS. Anybody knows how to get the device ID on Pocket PC 4.2? The failure mode on the 4.2 devices is that the KernelIoControl call always returns a status of ERROR_INSUFFICIENT_BUFFER. It tells you that the required buffer size is 36, but gives this error even when the buffer size is set to 36. The only time is returns success is when the buffer size is set to 16.     - Invalid Instance Name Installing MSDE for .NET Framework 1.1 Samples I installed the VS.NET 2003 ENT ARCH software that also installed the .NET FRAMEWORK 1.1. When I went to Install the Samples, it indicated that I needed to download the MSDE, which produces an "invalid instance name error". The ASP.NET data sample applications are expecting an MSDE instance of \NetSDK. I then re-installed the SQL Sever 2000 and the .NET FRAMEWORK 1.1 expecting this would clean-up any previous references on the machine. But I still get the same instance error. The SQL Server Manager shows the \NetSDK instance on my other machine. How do I remove this reference since I can't register this server because it is not a "trusted" machine? or how do I change the instance name to something else and then re-name the instance back to \NetSDK? If this is the case, then what's the point of .NET framework. In Java Virtual Machine, it is "write once, and run everywhere," so that any Java applications can run on any OS with JVM installed.     - Increasing UDP Recieve Buffers Hi, My application needs to read UDP packets which are coming at a rate of about 50Hz. (For 1 or 2 second bursts). When I examine what has been recieved, I see holes of missing data, perhaps 10 missing packets per second. I believe the problem is that my (C#) synchronous UDP client cannot reliably Recieve() from the socket at that rate, even at the highest priority, even with the most minimal overhead. Is there a way to increase the size of the recieve buffer for my socket so that the tcp/ip stack doesn't discard packets when my application gets delayed?     - NameValueSectionHandler usage I am trying to create a NameValueSectionHandler to read a section from an XML file. I am trying to figure out what parameters to pass to the Create method. Parameter 1 is simply described as an object. I can't figure out what type of object ot pass in. I assume it would be a NameValueCollection, the same as the return, but that isn't it. All I can get ot work is a null, anything else generates an invalid type-cast exception. I have searched the help and MSDN for sample but can't find any samples of directly using his class.     - Datagrid frustartions I've been trying to do some work with a datagrid control on a winform and have gotten very frustrated with it. I need to be able to determine when the user clicks on a given cell but can't find anything that seems to be reliable. The click and doubleclick events fire when the user clicks on the row or column headers and *sometimes* when the user clicks on a particular cell. I can't figure out any pattern to when it fires by clicking on a cell. The CurrentCellChanged fires when the user clicks on a cell but ALSO when the user clicks on a different row or column header so if they select a cell and then click a column header to sort differently then it changes the selection. I need to identify the last cell selected only and not have it be affected by row or column clicks. There are a lot of other things that should be simple that the datagrid seems to make as difficult as possible but I've managed to work around everything so far except the ability to select a cell.     - Distributing .net "Shrink Wrap" Applications I am currently in the process of evaluating the C# and VB.NET portions of the latest release of Visual Studio 2003 .NET (I have already written a few production apps using VC++ 7 that DOES NOT target the framework. What I would like to know is if anyone has successfully (or NOT) written an installable .NET application using either C# or VB.NET (or both) targeting a variety of OS's (XP, 2000, and possibly NT4 and 98) without considerable pain. I have search many post and have only found post discouraging such solutions. Any success stories?? Hi, I have a setup problem.for .net framework 1.1 When I install the .net framework into Windows2000 Advanced Server following message appear, "Microsoft .NET framework Setup is failed" But before this framework installation I have framework 1.0 in this machine but I can't uninstall from add/remove program so I uninstall framework 1.0 manually.     - cannot open form design view I am having a strange problem with Visual Studio.NET. I am working on a C# project with two forms. I did not open the project for a couple of weeks, and now when I open it up, the 'Design View' of one of the forms will not open. It has the following error: "An error occurred while loading the document. Fix the error, and then try loading the document again. The error message follows: Duplicate declaration of member 'Location'. It does not specify where specifically this duplicate declaration is occurring, or what object it is related to. Also, building and running the project works without a hitch, so there are no debugging errors to work off of. Any suggestions as to where this bug might be? Or is it a VS.NET bug?     - while true loop, would a semaphore work? I am trying to create a high precision timer using the QueryPerformanceCounter API call which works find but I want to implement a tick event and am not sure how best to proceed. Say the user wanted the tick event every 500 ms, the only way I can think of to perform that is constantly querying QueryPerformanceCounter until 500 ms has passed then raise the event but that will use 100% of the processor, which I don't want to do. Is there any way to implement this timer without using 100% of the processor or is there a different way to go about this I have not thought of?     - URL Forwarding Problem Hi All, I have an ASP.NET appication running on http://xx.xxx.xxxx.xx/aspApplication and I have a domain http://www.mydomain.com registered at godaddy.com for this application.I have setup domain forwarding at goDaddy.com to forward to http://xx.xxx.xxxx.xx/aspApplication. I am using Forms Authentication on the application.Now the problem i am facing is , when i login to the application through http://xx.xxx.xxxx.xx/aspApplication everything works fine and get authenticated and logged in. But when I login in through http://www.mydomain.com , the cookie gets blocked and I am prevented from logging in(i am not getting authenticated).     - Problem binding control properties to a dataset (bug?) I've run into a problem with binding form properties to data in an xml file (through a dataset). As it turns out, I can easily bind if the data type of the property on the control is a normal datatype such as a string or integer. If the datatype is not one of the built-in types however, things go horribly wrong. Consider this xml file: <?xml version="1.0" standalone="yes"?> <SettingsData> <one> <Text>Center</Text> </one> </SettingsData> If I create a normal winforms application and add the following code to the form's constructor, it works. I get "Center" in the text box. Here's the code that works: DataSet dataset; dataset = new DataSet(); dataset.ReadXml(@"d:\development\bindtest\form.xml"); TextBox textbox = new TextBox(); Binding binding = new Binding("Text", dataset, "one.Text"); textbox.DataBindings.Add(binding); textbox.Width = 150; textbox.Height = 50; textbox.Top = 50; textbox.Left = 50; textbox.Parent = this; this.Controls.Add(textbox); I hardcoded the size and placement of the text box, but I can easily get that from the xml as well. I encountered a problem when I tried to pull TextAlign from the xml file though. I know that this would require the use of Format, so I implemented that. I followed the example from the help files. I've made similar code work with other data types such as booleans being coverted from a T or F in the xml file. DesiredType shows HorizontalAlignment. When I run this code, oddly, the event handler is executed three times. Each time seems to execute correctly. Then I get an unhandled exception from the Application.Run(new Form1()); Error creating window handle. Can anyone tell me what's happening and how to fix it? I foresee I'll have the same problem trying to read the font name and size from the xml file. I have a workaround, but it's very unelegant.     - VSS with .NET studio We have purchased Microsoft Visual Studio .NET 2003. We don't have Visual Studio 6.0 on our side. I was trying to install Visual Source Safe, unfortunately I was not able to install the same. I would like to know whether Visual Source Safe and Visio are bundled along with .NET 2003 and if not is it required to buy separately. If its there please let me know the steps to install it. In my application, ADO.NET DataSet object is not getting constructed in the Web Service Web Method called by the Windows Application passing an ADO.NET DataSet Object as a parameter to the Web Method in Web Service Debugging using the Soap Extensions, clearly shows that the Serialized DataSet is passed to the Web Service, but the Web Service Web Method is not able to construct the ADO.NET DataSet from the Serialized Data. I am hereby giving a brief overview of what I am doing. We're developing a WindowsForms based distributed application. All our WindowsForms clients connect to the business components layers using Web Service. Therefore, the front-end only talks to the Web Service and Web Service calls the Business and Data Layer components. Since the Web Service Layer acts as a gateway between the WindowsForms clients and the business components, We pass all the data using DataSets.     - accessing VC ActiveX from .NET Hi All, I have created an ActiveX control using VC 6.0. One of the interface implements a method which takes in VARIANT FAR* as the parameter. Iam unable to call this method from C#(.NET 2003) no matter what.. I can call the same method from VB 6.0. I have been bogged down by this problem for quite some time.. I dont have a clue what to do.. The funny thing is that I created a VB stub (again an ActiveX with method taking byref Variant), which calls the earlier mentioned VC activex method with the parameter passed to it. If I call the above VB method from C# using "ref Object" param it works fine!!!     - Building My Own DataSource Control hi All, I'm hoping to build my own datasource control, and hoped that someone would point me in the right direction to start. I have already created a class, which accepts a form, a tablename, a connection and a collection of field object (which contain information about which field binds to which form control). I build all this in code, and then the class gets a dataset, binds the controls to it, and allows modifiaction and updates etc. then saves them back to the database. However, I'd like to build a control, which would automate all of this, by getting the fields at design time, and allowing the user to bind the fields and then the user could simply change the connection string at run-time to point to the correct database when deployed. I am trying to kind of replicate the method by which you build bound forms in access. Any pointers to articles, or advice is greatly appreciated.     - AssemblyVersionAttribute Hi, In the AssemblyInfo.cs file I change the AssemblyVersion["1.0.0"]; attribute from the default "1.0.*" blah I notice that its FORCING 4 digit notation, so if I use "1.0.0" I get "1.0.0.0" in that property.     - Framework 1.1 on XP Client won't load Framework 1.0 Programs from App.Server Hello there. I hope you can help me out with this one. We have developed a .NET application with the 1.0 Framework. It is located on a Application Server. Windows XP Clients will start the application from the server and run them on their local machine. The local machine has Framework 1.1 installed. THIS DOESN'T WORK. Additionally installing the 1.0 Framework will help (but it is not desired). Also, the same situation with Win2000 Clients will work as well. Any hints on that? However, the CLR's WebResponse Headers collection delimits headers of the same name with commas. I thought I would get around this with the Headers collection method GetValues("Set- Cookie"), but even at that point the headers have already been corrupted by storage as a comma delimited string. Is there a way around this with the CLR? Basically, the WebResponse Header methods Get and GetValues are bugged because they use a comma delimited string to store the headers. I assume somewhere the real headers are available, but probably not available in public. I assume this problem was allowed to occur in the name of code reusability by way of the NameValueCollection. Where can I report this bug? Does anyone know of a workaround or a way to access the headers in their raw line delimited form? Previously in this machine .net framework1.0 was installed but, if framework1.1 was tried to install "Microsoft .net framework Setup has failed" it says. I want to show a window on the screen with a WinService, so I have to
activate the Checkbox in the Properties of the registered service.
How can I manage this automatically within the installation? I set
the flag in the Registry
(HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\MHC\Type=0x00000110),
but it didn't work.
