    - AppDomain.CreateInstanceAndUnwrap of shared (GAC) assemblies Hi everyone, I am trying to load a shared assembly in it's own application domain. I created a simple Windows Application with 1 button that executes the code below. It is trying to load a very simple assembly 'ClassLibrary1' that is located in the GAC. The call to CreateInstanceAndUnwrap is unable to locate the assembly.     - Difference between System eventlog and those created by EventLog c Hi, My application write custom event log (i.e. NOT to the standard "system", "application" or "Security" ones) using the EventLog class in .NET. The log name field is greyed out (empty) and the Size, Created, Modified, and Accessed values are all empty (shown as "Not avaiable". The problem is that I tried to access my custom event log using the WMI. With script such as this one: Select * from Win32_NTEventlogFile It only returns 3 objects, namely the default system event log ("system", "application", and "security"). My custom event log file is NOT returned. The static EventLog.GetEventLog (in .net) does returns me the correct collections of event log files. But my application requires me to access those files through WMI. I am stuck at here. I have spend quit sometime trying to find out why. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks.     - Avoiding security issue with URL? I use one page as a template and include a header, footer, and allow the main content area to change, based on a varible I supply via the URL. The variable holds a reference to another page and pulls it into the main page. Going from the main page to pageB will look like: index.asp?p=page Sometimes I append other URL parameters. These may be values, such as a user ID, that goes into the database to set conditions on a stored procedure. This is a security risk. I was able to find a site for reporting bugs in the upcoming VisualStudio 2005 but nowhere could I find a way to submit bug reports for any other product.     - Reading CD Drive causes Message popup Hi, Windows displays a dialog box when I attempt to read files from a CD Drive and there is not a CD loaded. Anyone know how to stop this dialog from being displayed? Following is code used to read drive. drivePath is equal to @"d:\" and d is my CD rom drive. Directory.GetFiles ( drivePath, searchPattern ); The dialog box has the following message "There is no disk in the drive. Please insert a disk into drive D:."     - Parsing of App.config varies by machine I've run into a strage and frustrating problem. I've written some configuration classes that implement IConfigurationSectionHandler to read custom sections in my App.config file. On my primary development machine they work great. This morning I started debugging the application on a different machine and I'm getting ConfigurationExceptions in my classes. The problem seems to be that the App.config is being read differently; it tries to parse whitespace that it didn't on the first machine. On iterations 1, 3 and 5, srvNode contains just whitespace (InnerXml == "" and InnerText consists of \r\n's and \t's) and on iterations 2 and 4 srvNode contains the proper child nodes (<srv1> and <srv2>, respectively) as expected. On the machine I originally wrote the code on, the loop is executed only twice, once for each child node of <Servers>. Does anyone have an explanation for this?     - Regex Woes I'm attempting to check a string and see if it has any other characters besides numeric. Using the following pattern "[^0-9]*", I figured it would find a successfull non-numeric character if it was matched against a string and it does just fine. My question/problem is that when I match the pattern against a string simply like "3", even though there aren't any non-numeric characters present, it still reports success. I wrote this pattern using Expresso (http://www.ultrapico.com) and when using Expresso, the pattern behaves as expected (reports success when non-numeric char's are presents and doesn't report success when only numeric char's are present). However when using the following snippet: Regex ex = new Regex(@"\D*"); // or @"[^0-9]*" if (ex.Match("3").Success) Console.WriteLine("I'm busted"); It seems to find a match even though I'm explicitly telling it to match non-numeric characters.     - Object deserialization issue I have a class marked as [Serializable]. This class contains private members that I don't need to serialize, as such I've tagged their declaration as [NonSerialized]. Most of these members are initialized in the constructor of my class. The serialization and deserialization works fine BUT, when deserializing (hence re-creating objects graph) I'm loosing these non-serialized members initialization. I thought that the object constructor would be executed anyhow, which doesn't seem to be the case. I need to compare objects that I store in HashTable by using Add method and passing object as first param, and a unique key string as second. Later on I iterate through this collection and need to compare the object stored in the HashTable to another object that's obtained as one of the params in a call to an event.     - Impersonation in a console app Hello Can anyone shed any light onto why I can Impersonate succesfully from an Asp.Net form, but it fails when I try and do the same from a console application? Both applications call into the same com component which checks the Account Name of the original caller. The aspnet app succesfully logs the account I have set it to impersonate, but the console app appears to execute correctly as it succesfully returns data but it logs the account I am logged on to the pc as. I am running version one of the framework on a windows 2000 machine.     - WinService Hi! If I create an empty winservice projekt and just compile and install. That service will keep running until I tell it to terminate, right? I have a problem with a winservice that terminates unexpectedly without any warning after about two hours of running perfectly fine. Every piece of code is within try-catch blocks and the debuggeroutput just ends. Inside a winform, the same code never fails. I could use some advice how to debug this...     - Rotating a Picturebox Hello, I am trying to rotate a picturebox control. I have done some experimenting with rotating the image inside the picturebox, but I am trying to get the affect of grabbing the corner of the picturebox and moving the mouse to change the angle. I am sure I can implement the code to grab the corners as I have already implemented code to stretch the image diagonal, up, and down and for a border to appear when the picturebox is entered. The problem I am experiencing is that the picturebox (or the location property) does not allow for 4 points. Am I missing something to turn the actual picturebox? I have flipped the Image using rotateflip(RotateFliptype.Rotate270FlipXY) and Even Rotated the image using the Matrix. But that is not what I am really looking for. If there was a way to use Rotateflip and give it actual Values (30, 45, 55 etc.) would help. But I don't see anything beyond the 6 or so choices. For example: Type t = Type.GetType("System.Drawing.Point, System.Drawing"); My issue is that unless I have System.Drawing.dll in the same directory as my app, this call fails. I did a gacview to confirm that System.Drawing is in the GAC. Why cant System.Drawing be loaded from the GAC?     - Problems with Debugging in VS.NET 2003 after installing .NET 1.1 S I have a solution that I have been working on for some time without problems. I installed XP SP2 and everything was still fine. I decided to install .NET 1.1 SP1. After that I can no longer debug. The solution contains both an ASP.NET app and a Windows App. When I tried to debug the ASP app, I got a message saying that the framework was not 1.1. When I tried to debug the Windows app, VS just hangs. So to get back to work I decided to uninstall the framework and reinstall 1.1 (without service pack) and worry about the service pack later. When I tried this the uninstall hung. Now I can neither install nor uninstall the framework. If I try to install it tells me I have to uninstall first, and the uninstall hangs. If I uninstall from control panel, I get a scroll bar labelled Gathering Required Information. It goes to about 50% and then stops and eventually produces a dialog saying "Installer is no longer responding" after a long time (more than 30 minutes). If I click Retry it just repeats over and over (tried 4 times) with the same long time between messages and no apparent progress. I have searched far and wide and found nothing to help me. Before I reinstall the whole O/S can anyone help me with: 1. Are there problems with using SP1 with VS 2003? 2. Is there a way to force the uninstall of the framework or to force an install on top of a corrupted install? I am running XP Pro SP2 with all updates. I have the Norton Security Suite running. I know macromedia dreamweaver has functionality where it lets you upload your site to a live server. I could invoke an FTP application from Tools, External Tools inside .NET Visual Studio.     - Checking version of .NET on IIS How would I check to see which version of ASP.NET my IIS is running. And how would I change it? On one machine, I am running XP and the IIS was running ASP.NET 2.0. My app was written using 1.1 and when I started VS.NET, I got an error saying that my webserver was running a different version than 1.1. I was able to find the version and change it in the IIS. 1.0 Service Pack 3, English Version and 2) Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1
Service Pack 1. Having selected them and tried to update, the download
works fine, but I get an error: "SL18D.tmp - Common Language Runtime
Debugging Services" Application has generated an exception that count not
be handled. Process id=0x708 (1800), Thread id=0x910 (2320)."

Any thoughts on what I can do to avoid this?
