    - Transparent form which records clicks and passes on to application I want to create a fully-transparent fullscreen form which records clicks but also passes on the 'click' to the desktop. Specifically, I have an existing application which displays a webpage fullscreen. I want my new application to run transparently over the top of the existing app, and when the user clicks the mouse button, my transparent application records the location of the click while 'passing on' the click to the application below it, allowing the user to click on the webpage. What is the best way to achieve this in .NET? To achieve transparency, I have tried setting the form's opacity to 0, or the background color to the same color as the transparency key, but this means my form does not receive mouse clicks. Alternatively, I can set opacity to 1%, which means the form is almost transparent but recieves clicks. Now, how do I pass on clicks to the application below? I could use PInvoke to simulate a click with mouse_event, but this presumably clicks on the topmost application (i.e. my transparent app) while I need to click on an application beneath the topmost. Thanks) So we'd like to copy the "Configured Assemblies" settings and deploy the same list (configure the assemblies the same way) on other machines. We tried to read the info from this file: "%windir%\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v#.#.####\CONFIG\machine.config" There are two issues: 1. it's probably not the documented/supported way for this purpose 2. it doesn't always work on 64bit machines. On 64bit machines, the file is sometimes in Framework, sometimes in Framework64. Usually two copies of the machine.config file exist. Sometimes one is modified (when configured assemblies changes are done in mscorecfg) some times the other file is modified. We haven't figured out when to use which file.     - WCF Selfhost - transport security Hey All I am using WCF self host with transport security. I used the https for the metadata as well and have trusted trial certificates and i have done the following: <serviceCredentials> <serviceCertificate findValue="testcertificate" storeLocation="LocalMachine" storeName="My" x509FindType="FindBySubjectName" /> </serviceCredentials> but the problem is that i can not use testcertificate i get following warning when i try to add service refence: The security certificate for host 'testcertificate' does not match the name of the page you are trying to view. So what i thought was to have a test certificate named localhost and updates the certificate bindings using httpcfg. <serviceCredentials> <serviceCertificate findValue="localhost" storeLocation="LocalMachine" storeName="My" x509FindType="FindBySubjectName" /> </serviceCredentials> I get following error when i tried to update meta data: There was an error downloading 'https://localhost:8012/MyService'. The underlying connection was closed: An unexpected error occurred on a send. Authentication failed because the remote party has closed the transport stream. Metadata contains a reference that cannot be resolved: 'https:// localhost:8012/MyService'. An error occurred while making the HTTP request to https://localhost:8012/MyService. This could be due to the fact that the server certificate is not configured properly with HTTP.SYS in the HTTPS case. This could also be caused by a mismatch of the security binding between the client and the server. The underlying connection was closed: An unexpected error occurred on a send. Authentication failed because the remote party has closed the transport stream. The database returned the following error: Failed to find or load the .NET Data Provider I have a fresh install of VS2008, and when I drag a data grid on and try and bind it (create a new connection) I get an error. If I connect to a database in the database window and then try and drag a table into a dataset, I get the same error. The error is: "Some Update Commands Could not be generated automatically. The database returned the following error: Failed to find or load the .NET Data Provider" Any ideas? It happens with an SqlConnection (MS SQL 2005) and an Access connection.     - Business logic for property on LINQ class Hi, I have a situation where I am writing an applicaiton against a legacy database that uses Y/N for it's boolean fields. Using LINQ I generated a class that exposed these fields as a char. What I would like to do is expose them to consumers of the class as a bool. I tried to edit the property that was autogenerated by LINQ but this didn't work and caused numerous compiler errors. Is there a recomended approach to doing this? so far the only way I can see to achieve this would be to wrap the LINQ class inside of another one and expose it to the calling code through this wrapper, using a property marked internal to allow code inside my library to work against the LINQ generated class and the data context.     - Replacement for gacutil? I have never used gacutil before and I was having trouble making my newly compiled program run in various directories. The solution was to c:\WINDOWS\Microsoft.NET/Framework/v1.1.4322/gacutil.exe /i ..\..\XInclude.NET-1.2\bin\XInclude.dll Yahoo! -- this solved the problem and now I could run my little xslt program anywhere. It is not often something works on the first try! But I just installed framework.net 3.5! Why should not the gacutil.exe be in this directory?     - Windows Service does not have hardware profile, also access desktop Ok, long story: I have a Windows Service that works on my machine, and that runs on another machine but does not result in the expected output. The service was installed with Installutil in both locations, as the service didn't seem to need an installer. The access to the other machine has been via Remote Desktop, not sure if that can be affecting some of what happens. On my machine I do not set it to use local account with enable access to desktop instead I log in with a particular username. It has a hardware profile. This service gets files from either local or remote locations. If I have it running in the local account I can't get files from remote locations (not sure why that is, I've read about the issues somewhere but can't find it now, if someone has a good link to explanation of issues I would be grateful) It sends these files to other processes that convert them to other formats, for example I send a pdf and express that it should be converted to tif,txt, and word and I give it explicit locations in the file system to write these files. On the new machine it does not work (in that conversions do not come out), but the service runs and reports that the called process did not result in a conversion. so looking at my service settings of the new machine I noticed that it did not have a hardware profile, in fact it doesn't even have the form field on the Service tab where one normally sees the list of possible hardware profiles to enable or disable, I was wondering if this could be causing the problem and exactly how I should solve that - is there a command line tool to give a hardware profile to a service. As noted before I run the service with a specific username and password, these don't have a hardware profile in the service panel. The username has administrator level permissions however. For testing of the service I have a process that should always work, that is to say it just creates a file with the name you want where you want it. It doesn't work if I use the specific username, but if I switch to using local account and enabling interact with Desktop it does, unfortunately local account and interaction with Desktop does not work with getting the remote files and passing them to the local processes. The getting of the remote files is done via UNC paths and not via mapped drives, we don't want to use mapped drives that would be unacceptable for the application. Is it possible that the giving of a hardware profile to the faulty service will cause it to behave well? or should this not have any effect?     - Windows Vista Home Prem Service Pack 1 I have recently recieved the service pack 1 update and installed it. I have had some problems and they have reappeared.     - Help! - Control Hi, I have made a custom control that looks like a vista basic window (dont ask why :D). I added "<Designer("System.Windows.Forms.Design.ParentControlDesigner,System.Design", GetType(IDesigner))> _" onto the top of the class declaration. I can easily drag my control onto the window and resize it in design time - and when I debug the application it works fine. But when I add a control to the container the runtime the control goes back to its default shape and doesnt fit in the form.     - WPF RichTextBox Control Hi, We've got a WinForms application which uses a WPF Rich Text Box (via WindowsFormsIntegration) which is failing on certain user's machines, but works fine on all others. If we clear their NT profile (we use roaming profiles), the issue goes away. Of course this is not a suitable workaround for a large number of users. To ensure it wasn't any other components causing the issue, I created a simple application that just has the WPF RichTextBox within a WinForms application and the same exception occurs for the users which can't use our main application. I left it to run over the weekend, and started a Perfmon log including various counters for the Windows service process. When I viewed the log after the weekend, everything had held pretty much steady with the following exceptions: Handles - these increased by four, in a linear fashion. The base number of handles was about 215. Private Bytes - these increased very, very slowly, by a small amount. The increase was not constant - the value would hold for some time, then there would be a small step up. Working Set - these increased very, very slowly, by a small amount. My understanding is that this is the amount of memory available to the process, not what it is consuming. Does it matter if it rises? What could cause it to rise? 2.
