    - Faulty implmentation of ThreadPool.RegisterWaitForSingleObject I think I've found a problem in the framework implementation of the ThreadPool RegisterWaitForSingleObject method. Given the following C# code: static void Main(string[] args) { ManualResetEvent evt1 = new ManualResetEvent(false); ManualResetEvent evt2 = new ManualResetEvent(false); ThreadPool.RegisterWaitForSingleObject(evt1, new WaitOrTimerCallback(EventProc), "Event 1", 30000, false); ThreadPool.RegisterWaitForSingleObject(evt2, new WaitOrTimerCallback(EventProc), "Event 2", 30000, false); evt1.Set(); evt2.Set(); Thread.Sleep(20); evt2.Reset(); evt1.Reset(); } private static void EventProc(object state, bool timedOut) { Console.WriteLine(state); } I'd expect to see messages for both Event 1 and Event 2 during the time they are both set. However, only messages from Event 1 show up. According to the docs, the RegisterWaitForSingleObject method is implmented using the Win32 WaitForMultipleObjects call to monitor all of the registered objects, with the fWaitAll parameter set to false I'd assume. However in that case, the WaitForMultipleObjects call only returns at most one indicator of a signaled object even if more than one of the objects are signaled. That means that when both evt1 and evt2 are signaled in the above code, the program will only get notifications of the lowest indexed one in the WaitForMultipleObjects handle array. Obviously using manual event handles makes the problem stand out more, but this could definitely cause problems if someone expects notifications no matter how many other objects are signaled at the same time.     - How can I set advanced file properties with .NET? Hi Space! Im looking for a way to set the advanced file properties (e.g. title, author, subject, etc.) on a file which is on a NTFS volume out from C#.     - IRDA and the Compact Framework Im not usre if this is the correct group but I am having major problems getting a compact framework application to connect to a irda printer. It will discover the device without problem but will tell me the connection was actively refused when I try to connect to it. I have tried and used a serial connection successfully (via emulator) and have all the code to print to the printer and read the in built mag card reader but I need to be able to acheive this over irda.     - Debugging classes from other language Hi, Today I´m a Delphi developer and would like to move to C#. I installed .NET Framework and .NET SDK, and downloaded the Borland C# Personal to start reading / testing the environment. Reading .NET documentation (from the beggining), I found some references explaining that I (developing in C# would use class libraries and components written in other languages that also has the .NET as target). If this is true, my question is simple. If I, developing in C#, try to use a class library or a component (and having its source code), developed (let´s say in VB.NET / J#), how will work while debugging my application (on the IDE, like C# Builder / VS .NET). The debugging will be possible? Also, I don´t know, if in this case, its a feature of the IDE or the framework itself.     - dataset.WriteXML fails to write whole content I have 5000 records in my dataset. On exit of application I'm dumping it to a file using WriteXML method. No errors are generated when writing to a file. But when application is starting it generates system error. When I looked into XML file it looks like DataSet has not been written entirely.     - Resource DLLs I'm in the middle of extending my Collapsible Panel (http://www.codeproject.com/cs/miscctrl/CollapsiblePanelBar.asp) control to support XP Themes & Styles. So I need to paint it according to the bitmaps that are stored in the current shellstyle.dll. Using uxtheme.dll I can get the current theme and work out the path to the current shellstyle.dll, but how can I extract the bitmaps from it?     - System.Net and NAT Somewhere buried in the System.Net namespace is a call or method that I really need that I cannot find. Most computers on the Internet these days go through NAT, where an private intranet address (192.168.x.x) gets translated through NAT and becomes visible on the Internet. My entire home network uses NAT, so I'm well versed in NAT on that end. My problem is with my web application. Because of it rather complex model, two computers connecting with the same public IP address get their data muddled between requests. I can get the public IP address easily, through the Request object, but how do I get the private IP address? It is the one way I can uniquely identify connecting computers, because even if they share the same public IP address, they cannot share the same private IP address. Any help is appreciated.     - .NET thread pooling problem Hi, I am developing a remote server application. this has to be service multiple requests at the same time. This is currently being done using the .Net thread pool. I have no problems with upto 25 clients accessing my server. After that I get an exception on the server , that the system is "unable to find a free thread to complete the requested operation". I know that .Net specifies a default setting of 25 worker threads and 25 IO threads, these defaults are specified in machine.config. But even by changing these parameters I am not being able to move beyond the limit of 25 simultaneous requests. I have also restarted my system after changing these parameters, but there is no change in behaviour. We are also printing to console, the number of WorkerThreads and RequestQueue by using ThreadPool.GetMaxThreads, but this prints 25 , 25 for both of these even after changes to the config file. We have also tried to configure the minFreeThreads , minLocalRequestFreeThreads and appRequestQueueLimit, but there is no change in behaviour. Why is the .Net thread pool not queueing the request if there are no free threads available? Is there a way to ensure this happens ? Also, what is the method of definitely increasing the thread pool size? Note: I am using .Net framework version 1.03. Any help would be highly appreciated.     - Excel and Typcasted Columns Grettings all, I'm having a problem with accessing data in a column of an Excel spreadsheet. It seems that when I access the spreadsheet using Oledb Connection method, a column get's typecasted according to the type of that column that occupies 51% of that data. So, when I'm trying to retrieve all the data in that column, if 51% of the column is integer, it nulls out the non-integer values!?     - Implement event interface defined in IDL? I am defining all my interfaces in IDL and then importing them into the GAC (using tlbimp and gacutil). No problem with normal interfaces. However, I'm trying to implement a source interface in C# and for some reason I can't seem to sink it from VB6? I get an error that the set of events are not implemented on the class.     - Writing to remote registry as a process I have a simple program that gets the names of all of the computers on our NT domain then changes the background color of the login screen in HK_USERS using OpenRemoteBaseRegistry. The program works fine, however not all of the computers listed on the domain are necessarily connected or turned on. Is there any way to either determine (quickly) if the computer is even connected to the network or perhaps run the registry changing portion of the program as a process so that I can kill the process if it takes more than a few seconds to write to the registry?     - Inheritance Problem I've got a design problem that the .net inheritance model will not let me solve. I didn't like the built in serialization (for various reasons) so I defined my own serialization approach. I wanted to define an interface ISerializable, and classes that need serialization would implement this. So I had a Job class for jobs my app needs to do: Interface ISerializable Sub Read() Sub Write() End Interface Class Job Implements ISerializable ... End Class BUT: I then inherited from Job: Class MySpecificJob Inherits Job ... End Class I wanted to have MySpecificJob implement ISerializable, and when called, it would serialize itself and then serialize MyBase, but .net doesn't allow this, saying: "Interface is already implemented by the base class" I think the framework should clearly let you override the implementation in a derived class, so that you can use interface based design in a situation like this. So then I tried defining a class: Class Serializable Sub Read() Sub Write() End Interface Class Job Inherits Serializable ... End Class This works well but breaks when I need to serialize a class that already inherits from something else, because .net also doesn't let you inherit from multiple classes.     - Grant Permissions for the ASP.NET Account on These Registry Keys Hello, I would like help in programmatically granting the asp.net username account access to specific registry keys. Basically the same operation if a user where to use Regedt32.exe to grant at least read permissions. Language I am using is C#. The reason I am wanting this is to automate step 3 in http://support.microsoft.com/?id=329290.     - SQL Server does not exist or access denied. hi group, i previously have a single machine development environment on server03 (w2K3, stand alone, SQL2K). i configured it so that my app is using "NT AUTHORITY\NETWORK SERVICE" to access to the database it and it worked just so fine. now, i am installing my asp.net app and database to a new production environment. my asp.net apps goes on server01 (w2k3, .net 1.1, domain controller). my database on server02 (w2K3, stand alone, SQL2K). now i get an error "SQL Server does not exist or access denied". how do i setup so that my apps on server01 gets to access the database on server02? any help will be appreciated. tnx!     - DataTable.LoadDataRow -Documentation error!!! The documentation of DataTable.LoadDataRow() has a major omission. To quote: "Finds and updates a specific row. If no matching row is found, a new row is created using the given values." What this does NOT tell you is that it ignores any rows which have the INSERTED or UPDATED flags set. It only correctly updates the data table if you have already called AcceptChanges() on your data table. Well, this little omission costed me HOURS of work. I designed a routine to update an entire dataset (including a number of data tables) in one big swoop so that I can call Update() inside a transaction to do all the inserts and updates at one time. Unfortunately, that routine fails miserably due to duplicated keys. This occurs when you call LoadDataRow() more than once with the same primary key expecting an UPDATE to an existing row AS THE DOCUMENTATION STATES! At a minimum the documentation needs to be corrected. On the other hand, most every other function that can affect rows in the data table gives you the ability to specify flags indicating which rows to ignore.     - Adjusting security policy to give full trust to intranet code Hi, We want to give full trust to the .NET code coming from our intranet zone. I have tried to modify machine configuartion file using .NET Framework configuartion tool. I have adjusted zone security to give "Full Trust" to the code on intranet zone but it doesn't seem to help. My program still throws security exception if run from n/w. Does the tool really works? If yes, how to do what I want to acheive? Or do I have to do machine reboot for new polciy to take effect?     - How do I stop HttpWebRequest from sending an Expect: 100-continue header when POSTing data to a HTTP 1.0 server? I've hit a brick wall with this one.. I'm trying to perform a HttpWebRequest that posts form data to the target server - the problem is that the request *always* contains an Expect: 100-continue header, which on HTTP 1.0 servers results in a 500 error. None of these seemingly obvious fixes work: Set the HttpWebRequest.Expect property to null or String.Empty Set the HttpWebRequest.ProtocolVersion to HttpVersion.Version10 Note that my class works perfectly with HTTP 1.1 servers, so I doubt there's anything I've done incorrectly in code. Also note that the problem only surfaces when you POST data to the server with the request, no post data = no problem.     - Service pack user interface How can I make a minor or a major upgrade with minimized user interface so it won't ask the user again where to install the files (Installation folder dialog). If I change only the version number without changing the product code - I get an error message when running the msi saying that the product is already install and I need to remove it first. How can I make a service pack for my installation (was made in .net installer 1.1) ???     - PLEASE HELP: using webresponse and webrequest I really need help on this please. I am writing an application for an Ipaq and I am trying to enable the application to connect to a DAV server which can is basically an HTTP server that acts like an FTP server. I used the following code WebRequest req = WebRequest.Create (url); req.Credentials = new NetworkCredential (username, pass); WebResponse res = req.GetResponse(); the previous code caused the server to display the 401 error :Unauthorized (WebException). So I thought maybe there is a proxy in the way so I used the following code WebRequest req = WebRequest.Create (url); WebProxy curr_proxy = new WebProxy (url, true); curr_proxy.Credentials = new NetworkCredential (username, pass); page_req.Proxy = curr_proxy; WebResponse res = req.GetResponse(); that caused the same exact problem I know for sure that the username and password are correct cuz I can connect to that site through the browser (When trying to access the site it prompts me for username and password just as an HTTP server would.) and I know the code works for other sites cuz I tried. I am about to start a new project, which a template based
application. It's a report generator (MS Word). The user
selects a report template and fills it with the report
specific information. It can't be ms word template
itself. The application is much more complicated than
that. Do you know of the papers/articles regarding the
template based application architecture and design?
